My story is a legend around the wild west. Both horses and humans alike tell it, and it's not exactly the happiest fairy tale ever.
The cavalry pasture
It was a warm summer evening, the dull sun was shining down on my mothers panting body. She was a beautiful dappled grey mare, and I remember the first thing I saw was her beautiful olive green eyes staring into mine. She smiled and then spoke.
"I'll take you to see your father in the morning, but for now, try to find your feet!"
With all my effort, I got my two front feet up, but when I tried my two back feet, I tumbled forward. My chin was about to clash with the ground, but I felt my mothers muzzle settle under my neck and lifted me up. I leaned on her for support, and a few minutes later I was bounding around the place. I grew up beside her, and had developed a habit of playing tricks on the other foals.
Adaiah
One stormy night, I was lacking sleep because of the thunder, when the doors slammed open. All the horses spooked and reared. I backed away, but then I saw the sight of three men on each side of a beautiful mare, pulling her in, and stepped forward. They put her in the stall next to mine, and I tried to talk to her. She just turned away.
"What's your name?" I asked
"Adaiah" she said, in barely a whisper.
"Adaiah" I echoed.
Escape
The next day, I was led into a grassy pasture at the back next to my faithful red friend Petasios. Adaiah was led into the corral and was tacked up. The men tried to break her and did not succeed. The Colonel walked over to her and pointed a gun at her head. I gasped, and leaped over the fence out of pure energy and anger, and leaped over the corral fence, and slammed The Colonel to the ground. Adaiah and I galloped out the fort with all the other horses willing to leave.
Sneaking to see her
I took Adaiah back to her herd, and when I asked permission to stay from her father I got a no. I plead to him, I earned a bruise. He chased me out of the herd and warned me to never return or he would kill me. That night I lay on a hill next to a lake, feeling different without Adaiah there. It was wierd, since I had only known her for 2 days or something like that. I felt a wave of determination came over me all of sudden. I sighed. No. I couldn't let my feelings get the better of me. But then I saw a slim chocolate figure moving towards me, a creamy mane blowing in the wind. It was Adaiah. We arranged to meet each other at the lake. This went on for a year.
Together at last
Soon her father found out and sighed. He admitted, his daughter did need a mate. He let me be her mate, and stay in the herd.
