Story: Rana was born in the Lakota village. And as a foal, she liked to play with other foals and little Humans. She liked it when the Humans painted over her, she felt like a great warrior. She was also best friends with a horse she would meet again later in her life; Rain. She and Rain had grown up together, and were there for each other in their time of need.
But as Rana and Rain became young mares, Rain fell in love with a buckskin stallion who Little Creek had stolen from the Colonel. Rana didn't trust the stallion, but she observed Rain and Spirit, as Rain was showing him around the Village, and could tell Her friend was in love him. Since Rain had spent so much time with Spirit, Rana found herself wandering aimlessly around The Village out of bordome. A week had passed and Rana hadn't seen Rain at all. So Rana took on Rain's jobs; Watching new foals, helping Little Creek, and showing new horses around, and that was when Rana met Naru. Naru had been put in the corral and was running about bucking and rearing. At first Rana didn't like Naru he was arrogent, and had no respect for the ways of the Lakota. But Little Creek paired Rana up with this stallion, and emediatly he tried to run away. Rana stopped him and led him through the Village. She showed him around, and as Naru and Rana got to know each other, Rana felt something she had never felt before...
Rana found herself in love with the stallion, and he was in love with her. Days later Naru asked Rana to journey with him to find a herd to live in. Rana didn't know what to do, she loved Naru but she didn't want to leave the Lakota Village. After a moment of consideration, Rana agreed to go with Naru. And she was never seen again by a Lakota. As Rana traveled with Naru, she grew weary and tired; she wasn't use to the harsh life of the wild. But she and Naru had bigger problems... Rana was Pregnant with Naru's foals. Naru knew he had to find a herd quick, for if he didn't, Rana would die.
It was then Rana remembered the buckskin stallion Rain had fallen in love with, he had a herd not to far from here. Rana quickly informed Naru of the Cimarron Herd's location, and the two horses began to travel to it. One day later They had reached the Cimarron Herd. Naru Neighed to get Spirit's attention, and he came galloping over. he asked who they were, and why had they entered Cimarron horse territory. Naru explained that his mare was to have foals soon, and that they were desperetly trying to find a herd to join. After hearing this, Spirit gladly excepted them into his herd. And that was when Rana saw a paint mare much like herself, and realized it was Rain. Rana rushed up to her exitedly and they shared the news of each other.
The day of Rana's foaling had arrived. But Rana was somewhat scared, her own mother had died giving birth to her and now Rana was going to have a foal of her own. Rana lied down apart from the herd, and had Renagade and Zuren. She looked at her foals and smiled. One was a little bigger than the other, but Rana didn't care. She loved them both anyway. When she brought them back to Naru, he looked at Zuren and smiled, but than glanced at Renagade and something bothered him almost instantly. Rana wasn't sure what it was, but ignored it for the time being.
But Naru started to change. As Renagade and Zuren grew up, Naru spent all of his time with Zuren, and almost completely ignored Renagade. Rana raised Renagade, while Naru trained Zuren. Renagade was hurt by his father's actions and when he told Rana of how he felt, and Rana's heart broke. She couldn't take it anymore, she wanted Renagade to have some love from his father. And later on that evening, Rana spoke to Naru about it. "He's hurting Naru." she pleaded with him. "He needs some attention from his father!" "I know.... but..." Naru responded shakely. "But what Naru? You can't keep ignoring him like this! So what if he's a little smaller than Zuren? He still deserves your love and attention! "Rana I can't! he reminds me of my self!" As Naru said this, Rana remembered Naru's horrible story of how he had to grown up in harsh conditions without a mother or father. " And every time I look at him I'm reminded of it. Its too painful for me to bear anymore." Rana wasn't sure of what to do, But she knew in her heart that it was wrong of Naru to do this to Renagade.
Rana, for some time was afraid of Naru. He WAS changing and it was frightning he wasn't the Naru she knew anymore. Soon Renagade and Zuren grew, and became young stallions. Although Renagade was ignored by his father he still was strong, and brave. Rana had awoken a misty morning and just in time to see Rain trot over towards her. Rain informed Rana that spirit was going to make one of her colts a warrior of the herd. Right away, Rana jumped to her feet. She was filled to the brim with happiness, this was the day.... But at the same time Rana felt sad. She knew Zuren would get picked over Renagade, and she didn't know how he would react.... crushed? Hurt? Knocked down?
Rana joined her mate around the center of the herd where Renagade and Zuren stood side by side. Spirit walked down the aisle of horses towards them. Rana listned as Spirit said a few words, and then started to announce who it would be..... RENAGADE. Rana's ears pricked up, and a delighted whinnie followed. But Naru wasn't so happy. Yes, to Rana it was a moment, untill she saw Zuren glare at Renagade with such hate... he attacked Renagade! Rana stood frozen in fear and shock. her two sons whom she loved alot, were caught in a battle to the death. Rana had seen these battles before and knew she would only have one son in the end. Frightened, Rana presses herself to Naru, and begged him to try and stop them, but Naru only stood there motionless. She watched as they fought and fought..... but then she heard a body fall. she braced herself for the worse... But as every horses' mouth dropped Renagade stood; standing above a lifeless Zuren. Rana and Naru galloped over to him, greiving him. Spirit started yelling at Renagade, but Rana was focased on Zuren, but what she did hear was the word "banished".
Rana was caught in between two sides; Whether or not she should stick up for Renagade, or let him go.... But as she brought herself to face the situation, She saw Naru chasing Renagade out of the herd and yelled "You'll never be half the son Zuren was!" Rana ran as fast as her legs would carry her, she couldn't take it anymore! both of her sons gone forever. And she lived the rest of her life that way....a year passed, and Rana spent her time with Rain, grazing and sharing news of the day like they always had before. As Rana put her head down to eat, she saw Naru limp into the herd gashed and scared. Rana galloped over to him quickly asking him what happened, and who had done this to him, but then Rana heard Naru say " Renagade.....is..leader.....of the rougs!...."
