History:
Rilla was born to a young show mare who wasn't very good but her sire was. She grew up on a small farm. She was gentled on this farm but when she become old enough to train in show jumping, she was a natural at it and simply loved to jump. She competed in 3 shows before she was sold to a man who was very cruel. He seemed nice at first until she refused to go over a jump that was just too high for her. This was the first time she had ever some across a whip before. The strike from it startled her so bad that she bucked the rider off and bolted off jumping over the training pen's fence. She had run for miles and stopped under a shade tree where she was found. The stable hand had been the one to fetch her. Once back at the stables and untacked she was tied up this is where she beaten by her owner. The wounds left on her beautiful coat were taken care of so that there was no sign of the beatings she had reserved.
Rilla worked had to please her owner but she just didn't have the ability to jump that height they gave her. As the years passed she watched a young black filly being born. Never before had she ever seen a more beautiful black filly. The foal had been given the name Amethyst for blue eyes that stood out against her dark coat. The filly was happy and lived peacefully with her mother in the other pen. The humans seemed to love the filly and had great hopes for her. When the time came they took the filly from her mother and placed her in the same pen as Rilla.
She looked after the filly doing her best to protect her. Only to suffer more herself. As the years passed she watched as the humans had tried to break her but they only failed. Soon Rilla was no longer the one protecting her. Amethyst was protecting her instead. They had become very close because of this every time the humans would come for Rilla , Amethyst would charge at them and they would leave her alone. However one day while Amethyst wasn't paying attention they took Rilla out and tacked her up. Once more that were trying to get her to jump a fence that was too high.
They hit her with the whip and she jumped the fence to get away from the painful strikes but she only managed to fall when her leg gets caught. She falls hard but her rider was fine. The next thing she knew Amethyst was in front of her and the rider was dead on the ground. She could hear the humans yelling. "Amethyst you must run now while you have the chance go quickly!" She told her not wanting her to get hurt. "I won't leave you " "GO!" It took a while to get her to leave but soon she watched her friend leave. Rilla wasn't really hurt that bad but her right foreleg was sore. She managed to get up just as the humans got to her. She looked at them knowing that they had had it with her. She backed up some and the stable hand came running to her. He had saved her for the moment. He un tacked her and took to place called Wild horse haven.
A woman came to meet them at the front gate. She seemed like a kind woman but she had lost all her trust for humans. She was lead into a barn where she was placed in a stall next to another mare who wore a sooty buckskin colored coat. She listened at the mare talked on and on about the place. Rilla simply told the mare her name and got one back. She was Devi. With her help Rilla learned to trust the woman who took care of them.
