History
Born from a loved mare by a small family who breeds and sells American Saddlebreds. Dixie was the last foal born from her dam before she retired.
At the age of two, Dixie was sold to be trained to become a fancy cart horse, to show for people as she transported them from one part of a town to another, never leaving the town itself. After three years of pulling carts, lifting her head high and keeping her legs lifted as she pranced, there was a man who needed to be at the next town in quick time. All the other horse taxis were either already busy or taking their day off since it was Sunday; a very rainy Sunday aswell. Dixie was not to be meant a dirt road horse. She's always been on cobblestone.
After long minutes of her driver and the stranger arguing that Dixie was not the horse he was looking for to transport him, but after the stranger showed him the money that he was willing to pay for the ride, Dixie's driver thinked it over and soon, Dixie's carriage pulled away from town. Instead of lifting her tail high, it was low and her head was a bit more forward and her legs seemed to have less power than they used to. She seemed more to drag herself as she galloped in the rain and wasn't feeling safe with the feeling of slick mud beneath her.
Nearly halfway to the other town, everything seemed fine and Dixie began to relax a bit more, but her nerves started again after she came to a hill going down. It wasn't really steep, but if it was dry and dirt instead of mud, it would have saved Dixie of everything that happened that day. Taking a bad step was the one thing that changed her life. When she went down, the carriage skid to the side and soon fell on its side and rolled only once befire sliding the rest of the way down, taking Dixie with it.
Dixie broke her left front leg due to a bad fall. The first thought was to put her down but her driver knew her for too many years to just give up on her. Through long days, he spent his time in her stall tending the broken bone in her leg. Even after her leg seemed well enough for her to walk on, her driver still did not dare to have her going back to her old job. Renting out another horse, he rode the other horse while leading Dixie to a secret sanctuary for horses roaming free in the mountains.
Dixie, for the first time in her life, knew what freedom meant. She threw her head back and galloped and pranced to her heart's content, but her happiness didn't last long when she turned around to find that her friend was gone. She tried searching for him until the sun went down. Once the sun vanished, her heart sank as she realized that she was alone. She tried going near other horses but they seemed to ignore her or give her one glampse and turn back to what they were doing, and she often saw a stunning gray stallion often wooing other mares, even ones that were already taken. She would sigh and turn away to go back to her tree, thinking that she would have no chance of being his.
Feeling abandoned and without a friend, and no clue of what to do in the wild, she spent her time with eating little grass, and standing next to a tree with her head low, just watching time pass.
