History

As a Foal

Arizona was born on an open plain along with her twin brother Whiskey. Once their mother had given birth to them she stood up, whispering their names in their ears before walking off. Arizona and Whiskey tried to follow their mother, but they were chased away by a huge bay stallion. The tried calling out to their mother but she just kept walking with the stallion until they were out of site.

Arizona and Whiskey again tried running after their mother, but their little legs couldn’t carry them very far. Eventually they both curled up together and lay their sobbing for two days. By then they were starving and hadn’t even had their first feed. They hadn’t slept or anything and were almost certainly going to die from starvation or predators.

On the third morning a beautiful mare named Atlanta was wandering the plain and found the two abandoned little foals. They managed to let out a little nicker, and then the mare knew they had no parents. So she took them in. They travelled slowly to the Lakota tribe where they live today as happy healthy little foals.

Arizona doesn’t remember her real mother, or anything that happened. Those memories of her and her brother being abandoned are locked away in her mind, and now she believes that Atlanta is her real mother, and that is all she needs to know at this point.
