This story is incomplete and making it as I go.
Personal History:
Normally foals are born in the spring for a higher chance of survival but Nex was born in the middle of winter. His mother was Chaaya (name meaning 'Shadow') ; she was the prize mare in the tribe. The other mares look up to her for wisdom and strength. The Indian’s praised her as they felt like she held a deep connection to the spirit world. All in the tribe crowed around to see what Chaaya would give birth to; a filly or colt. Within moments Nex entered the world and sorrow filled the tribes eyes. Even his own mothers eyes showed sorrow. Giving a soft whinny to the on lookers he could hear the tribe yelling words he did not understand. Teal eyes went to his mother for reassurance. Chaaya Nickered to her son before nuzzling his little head as a tear ran down her face. She knew that death would come to her new born colt and she could do nothing about it. Nex didn’t understand this for he had just entered this tribe. Wobbling to his legs he stood before the tribe. One of the men in the tribe came up to Nex and held a sharp object to the helpless colts neck. Yelling and screaming words. Fear didn't come to Nex's eyes as he did not understand. Right before the cut was made, Gajananvihari the spiritual leader came to his side, telling the man to stop. Gajananvihari looked to Nex's and whispered words he could understand. "You will be our savior" Patting the colt on the neck he turned to the tribe and told them of his dream. How Nex would be there savior in the end. Chaaya was over joyed as her own prayers were answered; she will raise the first colt born in this tribe. It would be a challenge as members of the tribe still looked down on the young colt but with the chief believing in the spiritual leader no harm will come to Nex.
It was rough on Nex going up. The other 3 mares helped raised little Nex but still kept there distant at a time. Another foal was born few months after Nex and it was a little Filly named Aahana (name meaning 'First rays of sun'). All the tribe members loved her and the little children of the tribe were allowed to play with her. Woman of the tribe would not let there kids even touch Nex as they feared death could come with his touch. Even though Nex didn't understand the ways of the people he did not hate them. Chaaya always ensured him he had a higher meaning and respect will come. Aahana stuck to Nex's side a lot. She loved to tease him and mess with his head at times. Being a colt it was hard to understand the ways of a filly. Over time spring would come and go, summer would enter its rage and then winter will destroy the weak. It was a hard year. Grass was hard to come by but the tribe made sure the mares had plenty of hay. Nex would have to wait till the mares were done before he was allowed to feed.
Days turned into months and months turned into years. Nex was all grown. He was strong and muscular just as a savior should look. He was brave and courageous protecting the herd and the tribe from any predator. Over the time Nex grew distant to Chaaya (his mother) and closer to Aahana. She had grown to be a beautiful mare. Nex was not allowed to mate with any of the mares as to the tribe he was tainted. His foals would bring corruption to the world. Still he liked to be close to her. Aahana still like to tease even though she knew it would not be allowed. Even with the company of the mares he felt oddly alone. He didn't understand the ways of the tribe nor did he understand the mares. To him he was different from the rest. The only connection he had with one of the people was Gajananvihari the spiritual leader. Though out Nex's life Gajananvihari has been training Nex in skills a normal stallion wouldn't know. Gajananvihari always kept a close eye on Nex just in case a member of the tribe stepped up and tried to kill the poor horse. He would feed him apples and carrots stuff only mares should get. Nex held respect for Gajananvihari because he was the only one who showed it in return.
One day Gajananvihari lead Nex to a cave of spirits. To the tribe this place held all there secrets all there meanings within the dead walls. A fire was burning in the middle and it slightly spooked the confused stallion. Gajananvihari patted Nex's neck and motioned him to move forward. As Nex stood before it the fire sparked higher and the smoke began to dance. Showing pictures or visions to Nex of his purpose. How he will save the tribe and in return his life will be taken. Grayish eyes closed as he wished the visions away. Pulling back he nickered softly to Gajananvihari for comfort. Sighing deeply Gajananvihari pulled the stallions head up and looked into the lost eyes of destiny. "This is your destiny" His words echoed in his mind. Was this why he was able to live? In his time he had seen them kill colts right after breath but he never knew why. Chaaya told him to just look away. How does one just look away while a child is being put to rest? Shaking his large head he looked away from Gajananvihari. He understood but he feared death. Could he really be there savior?
After that day Nex became distant to the tribe. More spending his time outside the village. He even began distant to Aahana. To him he didn't want to get close to anyone or it would be harder for him to for fill his purpose. If he feel in love he wouldn't want to die. It was sad but true. Randomly when he entered the village he would see Gajananvihari but Nex also kept his distant. He cared for the old man and didn't want to get any more attached to him. Over time Nex became anti-social. Only speaking with Chaaya when he needed advise. During the day Nex grazed in the pastures still protecting the mares and during the nights he patrolled around the village keeping danger out. He now lives in a pattern. Every day the same thing. Aahana tries to reach out to him but he won't let her. He just lives the life he knows that will end............
Unfinished.
Understanding the story.
Tribal connection with the horse:
The Awá Tribe is a rare and dying tribe in the north. Half a year it snows and the other half the heat can cook a egg. Within the tribe there are about 10 Indians and 5 horses; 4 mares and Nex as the only stallion. Wild horses do not exist in the territory of the tribe so it is hard to capture new equines. The only way to get one of the mares pregnant each year is to travel days away to the lands of the horses in hope of a wondering stallion outside its herd. When they get lucky and get a mare pregnant they all pray for a filly. Mares are highly looked at in the tribe. To the Awá Tribe; mares have a connection to the spirit world. The spirits the mares connect to bring good fortune to the lands and the beings who live within it. When a filly is born joy rises in the tribe and a dance normally follows. Stallions on the other hand are looked down upon. . To the Awá Tribe colts being born means draught for 2 years and that would be death to the tribe. When a colt is born the tribe normally either kill it or take it away from the mare and dump it in the wild where predators can come find it. The Awá Tribe holds a deep connection and meaning when they look into a equines eyes that other tribes do not understand. Other tribes call it odd but to the Awá tribe this was away of life and for them to survive they must have this connection with the equine.
The Dream Of Life:
Gajananvihari (name meaning 'One who stays with heaven') was the spiritual leader in the tribe. He had many dreams and visions of the tribe each year. 2 moons before Nex was born Gajananvihari had a dream about the little colt and how he would save the tribe. Within this dream it showed the lands burnings during the summer of stars. Food and water would disappear and change would come. Starvation would attack the tribe and most would die. Nex would be the one to save the few that live but leading them away from the lands they knew to lands that are unknown. He would have to protect the tribe on there travels and in the end the tribe would grow strong and grow. But once they reach there new home a battle will form with a rival tribe full of demons. And in protecting them Nex death would come. The spiritual leader knew he had to keep Nex's alive for the tribes own survival.
