Character
Personality:
Whiplash is, overall, simply evil. As a foal he fought others and was always punished for it – only hardening his heart further. Watching his father, Whiplash began to think that every horse outside of his herd was the enemy and couldn’t be trusted. Through watching his sire further, Whiplash began to grow even more violent, insecure (about his herd betraying him), cold and isolated.
Whiplash was so stubborn in his thoughts and feelings, that he treated his future mares as cruelly as his father had – causing his herd to try and leave which just made him even worse…
Likes: Being in control, his herd fearing him, Striker, Magic, storms, fights
Dislikes: Other stallions (besides Striker), his herd disobeying, humans, his father, much more
Fears: His mares betraying or leaving him, especially Magic. Striker not willing to follow his orders anymore
History
As stated above, Whiplash had been violent as a foal. Even when he was by his dam’s side, he sought to bite or kick other foals that got too close to him. When he did leave his mother’s side, he got into fights with every male foal in the herd and tried to control the female foals. His father wouldn’t have cared, except that he saw Whiplash as a future threat to his heard. So he tried to break his son every time he got out of line in the herd.
But Whiplash just got worse and worse. When his mother had another foal, Whiplash saw him as an opportunity. The foal was originally called Gilan but when Whiplash started to control the foal he renamed him Striker – not caring if his mother complained. The way Whiplash saw it, he was taking the foal under his wing and would care for him when he took over the herd (as was his intention) so he had a right to rename him. The foal was brainwashed into thinking that Whiplash was doing something good for him and started to idolize his older brother. So the two became inseparable. Whiplash was pleased that he was able to get a follower and taught Striker what he knew.
When Whiplash was three, his father was trying to force him out of the herd. But by now, Whiplash was a killer. Many colts had gone missing in the herd, or had been severely beaten and Whiplash was behind it all. So he turned and began to fight his old father. The fight wasn’t a long one, his father was old and he was young – and purely wanted to kill his father. When his father was too beaten down to get away Whiplash left him for dead and trotted back to the shocked herd. At first they were happy to be out of the old stallion’s cruel clutches until they realized that Whiplash was ten times worse. Striker was immediately moved up to second in command and took care of the younger colts that Whiplash wanted out of his herd.
For many long years after that, Whiplash traveled far from his herd to bring the more beautiful of mares and fought many stallions off. The stallions whose mares he stole, tried to find Whiplash’s herd, but he was in such a blocked off land that stallions either ended up lost or dead.
When Whiplash came to the Cimarron to steal mares, he came across a golden buckskin stallion that wasn’t going to give in easily. By now Whiplash was older but also stronger and knew how to win any fight. When the buckskin attacked Whiplash fought him off easily and claimed quite a few mares – including a palomino named Esperanza. He would have taken a pretty paint mare but she was in foal and wouldn’t have been able to make the trip so she would have been excess baggage.
Whiplash forced the mares and fillies back to his herd, knowing very well that when he got there they would be trapped. When they got back to the herd, Whiplash took a liking to Esperanza and Esperanza, in return, showed her bleak hate toward him. Of course Whiplash mated with Esperanza but he couldn’t care less for the foal until it was older.
Whiplash kept the buckskin’s mares for a few years and the foal he had with Esperanza had grown into a pretty young mare. But the buckskin had been persistently searching for his lost fillies and mares and had finally made it to Whiplash’s land. Spirit had thought over his plan of attack unlike the other stallions that went after Whiplash, and was much more careful about getting into his land. When Spirit finally found the herd he waited until nightfall to sneak in and take back his mares. But he didn’t bet on Striker – not knowing of the other stallion. So when Spirit got his mares together and was about to coax others into going with him Striker attacked, seemingly out of nowhere.
Whiplash heard the fight and woke, coming to his brother’s aid quickly. Whiplash drove the intruding buckskin off his land, not caring for the fillies and mares now – he had much prettier ones due to mating with them.
While observing enemy territory at night Whiplash spotted the most pretty mare he had ever seen. He silently moved through bushes and got as close to the mare as possible. She noticed him at Whiplash motioned her to come with him, she was eager to leave her herd and ran after him. She was pregnant but still easily jumped fallen trees and ran through the woods with him, more graceful than he had ever seen a mare move.
Her name was Buttermilk Black Magic, Magic for short. Whiplash fell in love and vice versa.
Whiplash was happy to see that he still had his pretty daughter and life went on for him. Until he finally turned thirteen and went out for another mare hunt. He came across the wrong herd and challenged the wrong stallion. The stallion was known as Shaft of the Arrow and was getting his own reputation of being a good fighter. By now Whiplash was getting too old to fight younger but experienced stallions. So Whiplash fell to the younger horse, even at his death, thinking thoughts of hate.
But what of Striker and his herd?
