Feather's Story:
I was born in the woods around midnight. I was a pretty filly, born a stunning Smoky Grulla with four black socks, a black mane and tail, a black muzzle, and a perfect white diamond on my forehead. My mother was very weak after having me, so she mostly spent her days lying under a tree in the shade or grazing in a small clearing in the woods. While she did that, I was off exploring. I didnt wander to far away, but I found many things to entertain myself with. Once I even ran across a fawn, and we became great friends. After a week of staying in the woods, my mother had regianed enough strength to return to the herd. Once we arrive, everyone surrounded us and I hid behind my mother. Then my father pushed his way through the crowd and stood before us. He looked worried, but when he saw my mother, his face went soft agian. I peeked around tfrom behind my mother and my father spotted me. He was overjoyed.
Life in the herd was fun. There were lots of horses to play with, and no one minded playing with me. Then, after I turned one, my mother died.
After that, me and my father became very close. Some even say I became his shadow. Everything he did, I would do. Everywhere he went, I would follow. When I turned two, we started racing. We would race for miles over the prarie to the mountians. My father was very fast, but we would always be neck and neck, stride and stride from the time we started running, all the way to the edge of the mountians. When I was three years old, I finally beat him. We were racing like normal, but then towards the end when the base of the mountians came into view, I pushed myself even harder. I felt my legs pumping faster than ever and my heart was racing. I pulled ahead of my father and kicked up dust in his face. He laughed and tossed his head, throwing a playful buck.
Once at the edge of the mountians my father told me I was ready to leave the herd. I told him I didnt want to go, but he simply shook his head and siad I couldnt stay any longer. So with one last nuzzle goodbye, I turned and walked into the mountians. My father stood and watched until I had disappeared around a corner, then he turned and walked slowly back to the herd... with out me.
