Personality:
A bit of a hot head, and not afraid to (try) backing it up against others who challenge him. For the most part he's relatively easy to get along with, and always enjoys a good race for fun, or otherwise. He can be very stubborn when it comes to his opinion, even if it's wrong. Despite his somewhat rough edges, he's protective of his family and will stick up for them even if it puts him in danger. Takes after his father, the herd's leader, but far from being leader material himself just yet as he tends to act before thinking, and has a fiery temper when angered. Namin is often the cool headed responsible one of the group, and is more of a leader than him.
History:
Born into a average sized herd, known for traveling around and not staying in one place too long. Being busy with the herd, Moteado was given most of his teachings by his father, as his mother was fresh out of escaping from the cavalry and had little experience about the wild. Also, after giving birth, she became sick from exhaustion, and was unable to do much with her son.
During the time his mother was ill, the herd was unable to travel, giving Moteado's father the time to train his son. But with a mischevious and ambitious attitude, it was hard to make the colt listen at first, as he wanted to do things his own way. Thinking he would grow out of it as he matured, his father left it alone.
As Moteago grew however, he became more and more anxious to try and lead. When his father tested him by giving him a couple members of the herd to take on a different route to their original territory for winter, he got over confident and ended up getting lost and attacked by cougars. During this time was when he stumbled across a cougar trapped in a hunter's trap. When the cat told him he had assisted his group, the stallion helped rescue him in return. When the rest of the herd finally found them, one of the horses under Moteado's leadership had been killed. Anguished and furious, his father acted irrationally and ended up getting into a fight with his son and banishing him from the herd. Hurt and angry, Moteado left, at first vowing never to return or forgive his parents. Not long after, he ran into Namin, and his brother Naji again and found the cougar was having a hard time dealing with his injured leg. Deciding to help, he escorted him back to his territory, but the two were soon attacked by the rest of the pride and Namin was banished. But managing to escape unharmed, the three formed an unlikely friendship and stuck together in their own odd little group.
Still being inexperienced, he soon got himself into trouble again after being captured by the cavalry and sold into labor pulling a steam engine along with other captured or domesticated horses. Scared but still defiant, he'd tried to escape one time when Namin found him with no luck. It was during this time he met Chase and befriended the chestnut before escaping with the help of Spirit. As he had been running away to escape the fire and humans, he came across a roan pack pony who got trapped in his cart straps and helped him get free before they both spooked from all the excitement and took off in different directions.
At first, Moteado just left and met back up with Namin, not wanting to be captured again, but eventually became lonely (though he'd never admit it) and went looking for Chase. Once reunited, they, and a couple other horses from the same place, just wandered around. For a short time, Chase joined up in Killdeer [(c)catwhohas14tails] and his herd, but after missing time with Moteado, ended up leaving and rejoining with the other stallion. It was a shock to find out he had a cougar as a friend, but the Gelding eventually got used to the idea and they all get along well.
Moteado is now trying to form a herd of sorts with Namin and Chase, allowing both horses and Cougars, who can get along, to join.
Relation to Spirit universe:
Not too deep, other than being trapped hauling the same steam engine with him the other horses (and Chase), and escaping when he freed them.
