Name: Sienna
Age: Undecided but she’s a fairly young mare
Voice: Toni Collette
Owner: She has had many owners – her current rider is a man who travels across the land, mustering mustangs for any who want to buy them
Sire: Greek
Dam: Cara
Siblings: Unknown
Mate/stallion: none but she has a crush on her riders other horse
Foals: none
Personality: Sienna has had many different personalities – each one effected by those around her. As a filly, she was ignored and treated like dirt, so she treated others in the same manner. But when she turned three, she was Murphy’s horse and tried to match herself up to his gruff, controlling personality in order to seem more at peace with her rider. She changed personalities for her other two riders too, but now she is what she always had been inside: irritating, annoying, curious and full of endless energy.
Likes: Reef, Tai, getting attention from them both, rounding up mustangs, the forest, rain, travelling around with Tai, birds
Dislikes: When the mustangs question or mock her, Reef ignoring her or brushing her off, not being ridden, when they have to deliver horses to the colonel
History:
Sienna was originally born on a settler’s farm. Her sire was in the army and her mother had been sold to the farmer after proving too fridget in fights. At the time, Sienna’s mother was already pregnant. When Sienna was born she and her mother were together all the time – until the farmer weaned her and Sienna had to be alone in a small paddock.
When the farmer decided he wanted to sell her, Sienna panicked. She kicked or bit any possible buyers until one was confident that he could handle her despite her attacks. The man used horses on his own farm and he put Sienna to work straight away. Of course, Sienna hadn’t been trained to be ridden and the man didn’t want to put the time in so he used her for pulling heavy loads on his land.
Sienna rebelled through, and would dig her hooves in, refusing to move despite any whippings she might have got. After a year of this man trying to make her work and Sienna refusing – he sold her to another human who wanted a horse for his family to ride when they needed to travel. She didn’t go at a low price though. Her new owner was unaware of Sienna not being trained but quickly found out. This man was wealthy and didn’t like the idea of training a horse himself when he could simply buy one that was trained. So Sienna was sold again and again either for being too much trouble or the humans didn’t want to break her themselves. Until a man named Murphy brought her.
Murphy wasted no time in breaking Sienna and she quickly learnt that he was the boss. At first she tried to rebel because he was far too heavy – but eventually he got his way and Sienna stopped trying. She noticed that Murphy almost always got his way through acting like he was superior and Sienna started to act the same way. Whenever the horses in the stalls tried to control Sienna or mate with her, she would act gruff and attack them.
Eventually horses and their riders began to see Murphy and Sienna as the perfect team. But Sienna wasn’t happy in the army with Murphy – he was rough with her and although she acted like she had the same personality traits, she didn’t belong with him as his horse. Sienna started to cause more trouble with Murphy, sick of his ways. At this time a man came to the army with mustangs trailing his own large horse. Sienna was interested in the mustangs as she’d never been free herself. The man, Tai, caught mustangs and sold them to different people if they wanted them and he was here to sell to the army. Murphy immediately noticed a mustang that was larger than the others and looked more impressive too. To him this mustang was gold and Sienna was copper. He offered to trade Sienna for the mustang and Tai decided to sleep on it.
The next morning Tai came to inspect Sienna. She didn’t kick or bite, since she wanted to get away from Murphy and the army. After inspecting Sienna for some time, Tai decided that the trade wasn’t a bad idea and later that day left with Sienna. Sienna was interested in his horse named Reef and annoyed him for most of that first day. Reef remained tolerant of the younger horse and answered most of her questions.
Tai, Reef and Sienna all stopped after a few days of travelling and camped in the forest. After setting up his small, basic camp, Tai decided to ride Sienna for the first time so he saddled her and set off to look for mustangs. Sienna was surprised by how well Tai rode. Clearly Reef gave him no trouble if he was this gentle. Immediatley Sienna decided to behave for Tai for as long as she was his horse.
Tai ride Sienna through the forest, following signs of a horse. Eventually they found a herd in a valley. Sienna didn’t need to watch for long before deciding that a dun stallion was the leader. Tai turned Sienna and headed back to his camp. It was clear to him that the dun was extremely possessive of his herd and he wanted Reef close. Tai wanted to use Sienna for this muster but if the stallion looked as though he would attack, he knew Reef would defend them – and Reef was a BIG horse. So he left, only to return with Reef soon after.
Tai left Reef in the trees, knowing that he wouldn’t wander off, and he kneed Sienna into a gallop towards the herd. The mustangs all heard the approaching horse and rider and started to scatter. Tai singled out an old palomino and a few other horses, including a tan yearling and a dun paint. The dun (not the dun paint!) stallion charged towards Sienna and Tai, infuriated. Sienna let out a whinny and reared, pawing the air with her hooves to tell the stallion to back off. Tai kept his balance in the saddle easily, being an experienced rider. When Sienna dropped onto all four hooves again, the stallion lunged forward, biting and kicking Sienna. She bit back when she could but wasn’t a good fighter like this stallion. That was when Reef stepped in and forced the stallion to back off. Tai mustered his small selection of horses back into the trees and Reef followed behind, making sure the stallion didn’t get close. Tai and Sienna forced the mustangs into a makeshift enclosure (using rope around trees to keep them caught), officially having them trapped. Sienna was pleased with her first muster and Tai seemed to be too.
When Tai unsaddled her, fed both horses, then decided to turn it in, Sienna approached Reef shyly, to thank him. But Reef just shrugged her thanks off, insisting it was what he was brought to do. From there on, Sienna had a huge crush on Reef and is always trying to please him – and Tai too of course.
When Tai had sold the mustangs before he set off with Sienna as his new horse, the colonel had requested that he bring more mustangs to them so they sold the mustangs to the army – forcing Sienna to face the horses there again. It was obvious that within one road trip her personality had changed (this one to her true personality that just so happened to match up to Tai’s) and the horses there took advantage of that. Until Reef stepped in, defending his new partner. The horses immediatley shut up. Once selling the mustangs they moved on and since then they have rounded up many mustangs, travelling all over the west to sell them. Sienna has thrown herself at Reef quite a few times but was always brushed off by the older horse.
