History/Background:
Athena has been alone for most of her life. She was born in the wilderness, and was raised by only her mother. The mare did not belong to a herd, for she had run away from a tribe to the slight east of the Lakota territories. She was harshly mis-treated by the humans, and turned on them whenever they came near her, even children. Her mother had been used as a brood-mare, and lived alone in a pen for most of her days, with barely any human or animal contact. They called her Orca, for she had a wild and un-tamed spirit.
Not long before she had escaped from the clutches of the tribe, Orca was bred with another Appaloosa by one of the Indians. She escaped the very next week, not knowing she carried a foal. The four-year-old mare traveled a long distance from the territory before stopping and settling down in an un-owned area.
When Athena was just a little filly, her mother was hunted down and killed by a pair of hungry cougars. The foal ran off at the first sign of danger, and abandoned her mother as she had ordered. Athena was absolutely heart-broken. She cried by her mother's lifeless body for days, and when she finally realized that her mother was gone, the foal ran off towards the direction of the Java herd. She was adopted by Song, a leopard appaloosa mare and her pinto mate Hugo. They raised her, but as she grew older, she also became more independant. Athena would barely talk to the other horses of the herd, only her adoptive parents, and would occassionally venture off miles away from the area before returning the next day.
