Rain - Childhood friend; they remained friends up until Rain was released into the wild with a buckskin stallion. The two were very close friends, and when they could, played together for hours. And with Rain almost every day, was a black filly by the name of 'Winter'. The three foals would keep themselves entertained by stampeding around the meadows near the indian village, and occassionally rough-housing in the stream.
Song - Life-long mate; Hugo met the leopard appaloosa mare the very first day he joined the herd. The two both fell for eachother immediately, but it took a while for them to admit their feelings. From day one they were inseperable, and became quite good friends, always by eachother's side. Things changed though, on the day Hugo took it to himself to finally confess.

History/Background:
Hugo was born a tame Pinto horse in the Lakota tribe. His mother was a black and white pinto and his father was a gray and white pinto, which looked almost identical to him. Hugo and his father were very close, and spent much of Hugo's first days together. The older stallion was a warrior horse, who made long journeys with the warrior indians and the other horses. When his father did not come home with the other warriors, he and his mother were heartbroken. They still do not know what happened to him to this day.
When Hugo neared around two or three months of age, he met Rain, a slightly younger chestnut and white paint filly. Beside her, there was a black-colored filly, that of the name 'Winter'. The three became close friends, and often roamed around the indian territories, playing silly little games to pass the time and entertain themselves.
A year passed, and Hugo found him and Rain growing farther and farther apart, though they still saw eachother often. Hugo had secretely developed a small crush on Rain, and was planning to tell her how he felt, when he discovered that she was inlove with another stallion... Spirit. He did not give up, though. When Hugo had the opportunity, he would attempt to flirt with Rain, but the larger-in-size male would always get in the way. Hugo finally ignored the mare, leaving her alone completely, which confused Rain. He had thrown away a beautiful friendship. Hugo learned the hard way, that ignoring a girl would not get him the attention he so hoped for.
His world came crashing down the day Rain was released into the wild. He did not understand why she would leave him. Winter later spilled it and told him what Rain had told her. "She thought you didn't care about her anymore", the now white mare announced. Poor Hugo was so clueless about the whole thing, it hit him like a bomb when he realized what he had done wrong. The Pinto slowly but surely slipped into a deep depression. His owner noticed this after about a week, when the horse had stopped eating. When all else failed, the man released a very happy Hugo into the wild, to let him look for Rain.
The journey took many days, but Hugo kept going. When two weeks had passed with not even a clue to where Rain was, he gave up. Little did he know, that his life would change forever after that day of heart-felt surrender.
With no way to get back to the tribe, Hugo was caught in a trap. He wandered around the large open areas, looking for food. Anything edible was quite scarce, since it was in the middle of a bone-chilling winter. The Pinto lived off of roots for the next few days... roots with the nutritional value of cardboard.
Fate, it turned out, was on Hugo's side. Not long after a terrible blizzard, the young stallion found his way to a herd of horses, known as 'The Java herd'. Bullet, their leader, accepted him as a new member, and to that, Hugo was deeply grateful. There was one problem, though... it looked like there were two Bullets! Wait, it couldn't be. It turned out, the beauty that Hugo found attractive was Bullet's sister, Song. The leader did not seem too protective, and respected Song's opinions and feelings.
Hugo and Song became close friends, never leaving eachother's sides. Once again, the balance of nature attracted Hugo to Song much stronger than usual. He had slowly developed quite a crush on the mare. This was a lot different a feeling than with Rain. But Hugo did not want to take any chances and lose her like he lost Rain. So he kept his mouth shut. Days, weeks, months went by. Secretely, Song felt the same way about Hugo, but she was also too afraid to confess.
It was one early spring morning, when Hugo decided that he was going to spill his best-kept secret to the one he admired. It all turned out a lot better than he had expected, and by the end of their talk, the two had become mates.
