Alvares was born to two Iberian horses that fought in wars. When he was only two months old, his mother had to go to war as did his father, so he was taken from her and sold at his young age to be sold to a soldier in training named Leo. A year later the two of them saw their first war. Already, Alvares was a large, strong horse. When they went into war the two of them managed to fight better than their comrades despite their young ages.
When fresh soldiers took over for the old ones, Alvares hardly had a scratch on him.
After that, they fought in every war that faced the Spanish, up until he turned three. When he and his rider were fighting yet again, a younger soldier was being targeted by multiple soldiers on the enemy side. Alvarez and his rider came to the rescue. They managed to save the younger soldier but Leo was fatally injured. He later died of his injuries.
Alvares was going to be assigned to another Spanish soldier, but an American soldier, who was there for business offered a very high price for Alvarez, so he was shipped to America, where he was later brought by the colonel who was in Washington, discussing development issues in the West. When the American soldier brought Alveres in, the colonel could see that he was a well bred stallion and immediately brought him off the soldier for an even higher price than he had paid in Spain.
Once the colonel was done in Washington, he took Alvarez back to the west with him where he made him his main horse. The colonel had problems with Alvarez though, because he wasn’t used to riding Iberians, and Alvarez’s war experience and person loss (of his rider) made him difficult to control.
After a few months, the colonel was still having problems with Alvarez but he rode him into an attack against an Indian tribe. The colonel used an unfamiliar bridal command on Alvarez, and Alvarez – who knew to obey his riders in war even if he disliked them – moved in the wrong way. An Indian took the chance to strike the colonel with an axe. Alvarez managed to turn quickly enough so he took most of the blow and his rider only got a small wound. He was taught to protect his rider at all times after all.
The colonel pulled out of the attack, ordering his men to take the village without him. He got help from one of the soldiers to get back with his lame horse. Alvarez was treated with even more respect after his obvious effort to correct his error in the attack and was left to recuperate for a few months.
Just before Alvarez turned four, he was set to work again. The colonel took extra time to try and ride Alvarez correctly and soon the two of them became a fairly good team. He would never be able to fully control Alvarez the way Leo could but he was close enough.
After another year, the wranglers brought in a white/grey mare. At first Alvarez took no notice of her, sicne she wasn’t the prettiest mare he’d seen. But before she was to be broken in, he got the chance to speak to her (unlike Spirit, she was in the stables because she wasn’t as rebellious). Of course Alvarez had his own stables but when the colonel needed him soon, he was left to roam around the stables, fully saddled.
He started to figure out the mare’s kind, and gentle personality. She was also terrified of the place. It was like opposites attraction to Alvarez. He was proud and arrogant, while the mare named Reina was thoughtful and gentle. He tried to comfort her and tell her, that if she obeyed they wouldn’t spend long trying to break her.
Reina tried her best to obey the violate man that chose to break her and it was over fast enough. Reina never felt at home In the fort though. She tried to escape a few times but was always caught and punished. Alvarez started to like her more and more, the longer she stayed. Eventually though, Reina got her chance to escape. She ran into Alvarez and paused not sure if she wanted to stay or leave while he was here…
(will be continued as I develop his story line – and I will give him a better relation to spirit!)
Relation to Spirit: is the Colonel’s favorite horse – even if Alvarez makes life difficult for him
Originally from: Spain
Currently living: The U.S (West)
I might change his markings slightly, soon.
