History: His dad was a Grand Champion Tennessee Walker and his mom was a scrub mustang. After his mom and dad fell for each other she bacame laden with twins inside. His dad's two-legged found out that his prized stallion had bred to a scrub mare and was horrified! Storm and Slick were to be seen as trash! After her many months of carrying she came back to her mate. Going into a hard labor the two-legged heard her travialing.
Following the mare's struggling noices he eventually found her. After recognizing the mare he immidiately went back, gathered his stuff and his stallion. As uick as he could he left the mare in pain. Storm's dad tried hard to stay with his mare, but coudnt bare the stinging pain of his master's whip. A few weeks later he died of grief.
Their mother had taken 2 hours before Slick was born, then another 1 and a half before Storm was born. After taking care of her two sons she had to rest. She pulled the strength enough to walk overto the bushes and collapse into rest. She nickered to her foals until they came over to her. She stood once more to allow them to eat their fill. After sleeping all night and most of the day she woke up and wearily started to graze, allowing her foals to sleep some more. She knew she would have to go back to her herd for protection, but would they accept her foals?
After leading her foals for 5 days she came upon her herd. She nickered a warning to her colts to stay low and behind her. Also to run to the tress if another animal charged them. Then she whinnied out loud. Suddenly a stallion came thundering up. He immidiately smelled foals, colts no less. His first words were 'Where are they?' Their mom didnt know what to say, but as the stallion started to walk to the back she nipped at his side and made a low winny for her colts to come under her. The stallion pinned his ears back at the shock of teeth scraping his side. Eyes glaring he stared at the two colts. 'Keep them out of my way.' and then he left them. Their mom sighed a relief and nickered to her colts. 'We are safe nowlittle ones.'
After a bit of protectedgrazing she started tothink about names for her colts. The bigger black colt moved with ease and could easily out manuvor his smaller brother. She thought for a moment and her mind landed on the name Slick. Then she observed her little white colt. Their father's show name, as he called it, was Striking Up A Storm, she thenrealized what the two-legged called him was Slick, so that confirmed the black colts name. She thought a little more and then said Storm, just as she said it the little white colt looked at her as though he already knew his name. She then said out loud 'My little Slick and Storm.' The colts came prancing up for their lunch. She smiled to herself and remembered their father and wondered where he was.
Many months later her Slick and Storm had grown big. They were yearlings now and she knew that they only had one more year left in the safety of the herd. Slick had been givin the job of gaurd, of course training under an older stallion. Storm, since he was white was viewed to be useless for stealth, so they trained him as a bait horse. The one to lure the predator away from the herd. Since he was a bait horse he had to learn advanced defence. So Slick was growing up strong and stealthy, and Storm was growing up strong and fast. They rarely got to spend time as a family, but every month they asked for a day off and spent the whole day with their mom. That was soon to change though....
One day a messenger mare was sent to Slick and Storm. She said that their mother had fallen and wouldnt get back up. Storm got there first and was laying beside his mother when Slick galloped up. Storm looked up into his brother's eyes. Slick said, 'Is she?' 'Not yet,' said Storm. So all that evening and all that night they laid beside their mother. At the break of dawn she opened her eyes and looked at her two sons and said, 'I am proud of you two and I love you....' She was gone. Both colts didnt know what to do. They laid their heads on their mother's lifeless body and cried till the morning sun.
The lead stallion came up and said, 'Lets move.' Slick looked up at the uncaring stallion. He had coldness in his eyes. Slick glared back in sure response to the lead stallion to back off. The stallion's ears pinned back and he snorted. 'Then get off of my land!' Storm was worried this would get into a fight. So he looked at his brother and signaled that he would be by him no matter what. Slick glared back at the stallion as ifsaying 'What do you got?' They both rose tho their feet and stood tall. Their father's breed made them taller than the stallion. But the old stallion knew how to fight....
After glaring at each other, the stallion said, 'You better be gone when I get back.' He didnt want to chance his whole herd and territory over two youngsters. So that evening the two young stallions honorably moved thier mother to her resting place. After saying goodbye they left running to the mountains. After they got into the mountainous areas they stopped at a stream and drank and grazed. They started talkingabout their future. Slick had an idea. 'Instead of us joining a bachelour band, lets go ahead and start making our herd. Noone stays in the mountains all year. The predators dont even come up here. Im sure there has to be some gully or canyon with grass in it. We'll use our first year out here to scout the area and find hidden caves and meadows.' So thier quest began. They survied fine and one day it started to hail and they rushed to a cave they saw not far back. Upon entering the cave they immidiately noticed a small stream inside it. They started to follow it. Even though they couldnt see, they could smell and hear the water. The rain had stopped and they also stopped for a rest. Then admist the quite they heard birds singing. They looked down the cave and saw litte streams of light coming around the corner. They got up and carefully trotted down the cave....
They came to a bright light and then... They saw it. The place they were dreaming about. A hidden valley in the mountains. They galloped down to the bottom and drank from the cool, fresh spring. There were trees in the corners and a huge lush meadow in the center! For the rest of the year they explored and lived in the hidden paradise. In winter the trees in the corners would shield the grass from most of the snow, so it took little effort to scrape up. They started to plan for the next spring. They were hitting three years of age now and were ready to start their first herd. They decided they would patrol the herds and pick their lead mare first.
They would look for around thier age. While patrolling a low rankning heard Slick unwittingly bumped, literally, into a gorgeous dark liver chesnut filly. She was super suprised to see a stallion other than her leader. She turned a sharp 180 degree turn and was dashing to her herd. Slick immidiately galloped after her and came face to face with the herd stallion. He was immidiately challenged by the old stallion. The fight was short lived because the old stallion had just finished a fight with a rogue and was already tired from it. The stallion started to slink away, but slick stopped him in his tracks. Slick came up and said, 'All I want is the flaxen filly.' The old stallion studied this unusual stranger. He then called a name, 'Galaxy!' The flaxen filly came silently up, head low. 'This young stallion wants just you, instead of the whole herd. Would you sacrifice yourself for the rest of the herd?' Galaxy looked up at the old stallion and said, 'Yes, sir.' 'Alright you young stallion take off with your prize!' Slick looked at the filly caringly and asked, 'Would you like to say anything to anyone here before we leave?' The filly stared at him questionly. The old stallion said, 'Her mother died and she knows not her father. This herd took her under it's wing, but since she has an unusual color noone cares for her but I.' Slick gleamed down at his new lead mare. Smilinghe said, 'Would you like to say goodbye to your father?' Galaxy quickly turned her glance to the old stallion and said, 'I love you father, please be safe.' And with that Slick and his new mare ran off to find Storm.
