History: Akecheta's mother was part of the Lakota tribe and belonged to a friend of Little Creek. She wandered away in the dead of winter to have her baby. A member of the neighboring Sioux tribe found the foal and his mother and took them back to his home. The foal was having a hard time because of how strangely cold the winter was that year, but he fought through and was a strong healthy colt the next spring. The man who found him named him Akecheta, fighter. A few days later the owner of Akecheta's mother came looking for her and the Sioux man gave the mare and foal back. Akecheta's mother's owner kept his name after hearing the colt's story and to show his gratefulness to the Sioux man.
Over the next few months as Akecheta got stronger, he heard of the story of his birth from his mom's human. He began to get cocky at how well he had fought even being a few days old and how well he had grown since then. He was bigger than most of the other colts his age. He started bragging to the young fillies about how strong he was. Most of them didn't give him the time of day so he would challenge the other colts to races and other things. He won lots of times and when he lost he would be a sore loser. This went on for a while until a human in the tribe, Little Creek, disappeared and came back a few days later with a wild stallion. Akecheta's mom told him to stay away from the stallion but Akecheta talked to him almost every night. He started longing for the wide open plains that the stallion described. Akecheta befriened this horse until the white men attacked and the stallion disappeared.
After the white men attacked, Akecheta was changed. He saw how easily they destroyed his home and how they had hurt him with their loud stick things after he had believed he was the best and strongest thing in the world. He made himself the protector of the tribe and took it seriously. When he turned a year old he was suposed to pick a human. He just ignored all of them. No one appealed to him and frankly he didn't want an owner. He was to busy doing other things and didn't want a rider.
He now lets anyone ride him and has gotten closer with all the humans. He protects his tribe well and loves his self appointed job.
Relation to Spirit: He was a good friend to him while he stayed with the tribe.
