I don't really remeber much about my colt life. I can remeber meeting my best friend Castie. I didn't know she loved me until I started hanging out with this mare that I liked called Opal. Let's start from the start.
It was a warm summers evening and my unknown mother was painfully giving birth to me. When I came out my mother died in pain. My father collapsed dead in shock shortly after. I was all on my own until I ran into a strawberry roan mare called Ellie. A cherry bay stallion stood next to her, towering 25hh above me. I looked up at him. Ellie saw my dead parents and gasped. She looked at the stallion.
''We must care for him.'' she said. The stalion snorted, stepping back a little.
''It's nothing to do with us Ellie.'' he snapped. Ellie rolled her eyes and took me anyway. She stuggled to come up with some names until it hit her (not literally). She then named me Ferrari. I caught my first glimpse of myself in a reflection on the lake's surface. I was a handsome red colt with a short black mane. I had one black patch on my eye and another larger patch on my shoulders to halfway down my back. Ellie looked at her mate.
''Kiger. Please. He will make a great son.'' she said softly. Kiger gave a thoughtful look and smiled. He likes me. Suddenly a beautiful filly stepped out of the bushes. I smiled at her and ran over to her. She looked at bit nervous and glanced back at her family. I grinned.
''Hi! My name is Ferrari!'' I smiled at her.
''Castie.'' she replied softly. I asked her to be my best friend and she happily agreed. 4 years later we bacame adults. I lived my life with Ellie and Kiger. Castie would visit me often and we played games. Then Ellie said I needed a mare. Castie started flirting with me. I didn't know she was so I just ignored her. She became really frustrated and walked off. I was grazing by a river when I saw a beautiful young mare about the same age as me. I'm so sure I felt my eyes pop out my head. She had a pink rose in her mane and a pure white coat, mane and tail. I fell in love.
I walked over to her happily. She smiled at me. I grinned back.
''The name's Ferrari.'' I flirted. She smiled.
''My name is Opal.'' Opal. What a beautiful name for a beautiful mare. I asked her if she wanted to go for a walk and she agreed. When we walked through an orchard I asked her to be my mate. She gleefully replied.
''Yes!'' she said. I nuzzled her. Unfortunately Castie was watching and she ran out to me. When she told me that she loved me I was stunned. I apologized and told her that I loved Opal and not her. She ran off in tears. I tried to block her out of my mind but she stuck there like glue.
1 month later we were happy until the dreaded cavalry stepped into our lives. Opal was sleeping and I was lying next to her. A gunshot echoed over the valley. Opal woke with a fright. I trotted outside and I saw the humans. I turned to Opal.
''Run Opal!'' I yelled. Opal nodded frightfully and galloped off. I attacked the humans. I was about to follow Opal until a rope settled around my neck. It took us 2 days to get to the fort. I fought the whole way but it was no use. I tried to get to Opal but she was miles away from me. I was dragged into the fort. First they made an attempt to cut my long mane. Of course, I was having none of it. They got as far as lashing me with a whip.
I pawed the ground angrily as they saddled me up. I bucked and leaped when I was released. That night I broke free of the dreaded post and freed the cavalry horses. I bucked the door open and released myself. I then galloped back to Opal and I was with her once again.
The next few years were happy. I think Opal may be in foaling, but then again, it's impossible for now. The cavalry has died down. They have attacked a few times though. I was shot once. Opal was in so much shock but I survived. The horrible day came when Opal was caught and abused. I attacked them but Opal was too weak. I stayed with her until we could go.
I woke up the next morning and Opal was standing next to me. I nuzzled her and knew she was ready to go. I looked around, my ears pricked up, looking for an exit. I saw a small hole just a few metres from where we were standing. I quietly broke the rope in two that held me and sneaked over to the hole, attempting to expand it. Once it was big enough Opal broke her rope and trotted under. I smiled and followed her.
We were out finally, no one had noticed we were gone until the next day. I took Opal to a new place, far away from the cimmaron herd. Spirit was near the cave we were in. He snorted, smelling us and trotted into the cave. I stood in front of Opal, protecting her from him. I pinned my ears and bared my teeth. My hoof slammed against the ground. Spirit snorted and did the same.
''I look for no fight.'' he said ''But I am prepared for one.''
''Sorry. I was just protecting my mare.'' I snorted. Spirit nodded and bolted off. I smiled at Opal. She smiled back and walked next to me. We watched the sun go down.
