Soaring through the sky, with his feathers shimmering in the sunlight, flies the eagle.
His screech fills the air as he chases his best friend;
who leads the grand herd of mustangs.
Whom he will protect to the end.
With saddened eyes he saw his friend go,
After being captured by a two-legged foe.
He tried to follow, but he soon grew tired and had to rest,
And on a branch, he watched his friend being taken farther out west.
With his strenth regained, he kept searching for his friend,
But when he found him again,
He saw him with the tame mare,
And thought the stallion had given him not a thought nor care.
He flew away back to his old friend's herd
Where the horses were waiting for their master's return.
They gazed at the Eagle, who had just flown in,
Hoping that he had found their leader without a scratch or burn.
But he shook his head, until he heard distant hoofbeats
Coming from the plains.
He quickly flew to where the sound was coming from,
And saw his best friend with his mare, Rain.
The Eagle showed them the way back to the herd,
Where the horses were awestruck to see his arrival.
They ran once again in the land they called home.
And enjoyed their leader's sweet, sweet rivival.
