Relation to Spirit: Father and brother born in the Cimarron herd

Bio: Camelot's father was born in the Cimarron herd, although he was captured by men when he was about two years old. They bred him with a mare and that mare gave birth to Camelot. Camelot's father denied that he was his son. Soon the bucksin stallion ( Spirit) broke his father loose and he ran back to his land. The men did not bother trying to capture him again because they tried and failed to tame him. They also had Camelot who looked very much like him and they would use him to breed with. Camelot's mother cared for him and would keep careing for him until he was a yearling, she told him storys about his father and how he had run back to the wild. He wondered what the world was like outside his land, but he was born in the winter and was not allowed to go out till spring. When finnaly it was spring and he was out and playing in the cool weather. When summer came, he would not play, not even if his mother asked him to. His coat was thick and it was too  hot. The owner of the ranch he was born on knew he would be like this every summer and that it would be no use to train him to work. He would get to hot easyly. So he was going to sell him when he was a yearling. His mother told him this, but he didn't want to leave. "  No mother no! I don't want to leave you and my home! Where will I live?" he sobbed into her side. " Don't worry my little one, you may escape and be free! Then you may meat your father... And If they sell you to someone.. I'm sure they will give you a good home.." To hear his mothers voice soothed him, but he would never hear that sweet voice again. That winter, his mother died because someone rented her and drove her in the snow. She was too cold and the beat her to go on. But she couldn't and she died that horrible way. Camelot was waiting for her to return that night when he heard some other mares talking. " Tis a shame aint it.. The poor lad just weaned and he looses his mother." The other mare replyed " I'd hate to be the one to tell him.. And did you hear how it happend?" The mare told the whole story to the other and Camelot listened until he could bear it no more.. He ran to his stable and lay down in the spot his mother used to stay in. His mother was one of the prized breeding mares and the man who let her be rented was new and didn't know. Now without her to prove he was her son, he would be even more worthless to the ranch, and would not get such a high price. He cried and cried until he fell asleep. When he woke there was a man standing before him. He looked at him and stood up slowly from his warm spot. The man was not smiling. He was scowling and holding a rope and halter. Camelot looked at him scared. He did not like the look on his face. The man reached out and slipped the halter over his head. He tightened it until it hurt. Camelot flinched. Then he tied the rope onto the halter and pulled Camelot out of the large stall. He led him past the corrals and bigger stables. Then he came to the work horses stables. Some of them where large and others where smaller and empty. He came to a small stable with a door on the back wall. Out side of the door their was a very small pen and a post. Camelot looked at it confused. The man jerked him into the stall and out into the yard. He tied Camelot to the post and scowled at him. " Well you worthless peice of horse flesh.. Now that ur mare's died ( mother) you arn't useful to us anymore... You get to work in the feilds until the master desides what to do with yah." and with that the man stomped back out of the yard into the stall and slammed the main door. Camelot looked saddly out at the corrals and the long line of pens beside him. No one was in them. He sighed and stood their until his feet felt frozen. He only moved when they did this. Later, the sky was growing dark and night time fell over the land like a blanket. He could see the whole ranch. The house, the big show horse corrals, the breeding stables, the feilds where the other horses worked, he could see the gate. He stared at the gate. Something was moving towards it. He looked closer and he saw men dragging in a horse that looked.... Like him... Only.. Without the long fur and the fuzzy hooves. He watched them bring it to a large stall like the one he used to be in. They put it in the stall and the horse jumped and bucked and ran around in side the stall. He watched it for a while and then sighed. He heard foot steps and hooves nearby. He turned and saw a horse run into the pen next to him. It was brown and slightly shivering. He looked into the door way and saw old and stiff hay. When he was in the big stalls, they had soft sweet smelling clean hay. He made a face at the look of the hay. He turned to see if there was hay in his stall.. There wasn't.. He turned his head to the sound of the horse talking." So..  You the horse that's mother got killed?" Camelot looked at him and slowly said. " Yes...." The horse ran around in its pen and stretched its legs." Well... Now I see your going to be put to work eh? Well.. They might do that or they may." He looked around slyly and then right at Camelot " They may send you to the SLAUGHTER HOUSE." He said with a gruff tone in his voice. Camelot looked at the horse and bent forward. " The what?" The horse told him what happened to useless animals and what may happen.Camelot was worried. He didn't ever want to be sent to the slaughter house. He looked at the ground and at his feet. The horse spoke up again " or... They may work you so hard in the fields until you are so tired they whip yah! Thats right whip! And then you may even die if they don't feed yah right!" Camelot looked up with big scared eyes. Just then another horse came into the pen on his other side." Leave the boy alone Jed! He's just a yearling!" The horse shouted at the other, who was he guessed named Jed." Ah good grief. Just haven some fun after my long day." He told the other horse." Don't listen to a thing he says boy.. He just trying to scare yah." The other horse piped up. " Yeah but it CAN happen yah know!" Jed perked his ears and ran into his stall. Camelot heard something that made a clickty sound " clickety clickty" The other horse went into his stall too. Camelot stood there looking at the door way and trying to figure out what that sound was. Then he heard a human voice and a munching sound. Camelot turned around when he heard his door open. He saw a different man than the one before, but he still looked gruff. The man came up close to Camelot and Camelot leaned away from him. He didn't like this man or the one before. The man looked at him a moment and then turned around and went out the stable door. He left it open a moment and came back with old hay. He laid it in the stall and then closed the door. He went to Camelot and untied him. He brought him inside the small stable and then went back out of the stall. He came back with some old oats and poured them into a bucket hanging on the wall. The oats made that clickety sound! Camelot watched as he poured it and then the man left without saying a word. Camelot ate all of the old oats and laid down in the old dirty hay. He rested until morning. When he woke the day was the same. The mean man came back and jerked him out into the pen, tied him , said a mean comment and left. Camelot stood there until Jed came back and listened about Jed's day until the other horse came back. The other pens where filled and every thing happened almost exactly like the other. The grumpy man came and gave him more hay and fed him oats and water. Camelot didn't finish most of the oats because he hadn't been doing much. Each day was almost the same. Only Camelot ran around in his pen to get exercise. He hated living in the dirty old stall, he hated the men who fed him and tied him to the post. He knew there where some kind humans, but he wondered why he didn't ever get to be with one. He longed for his mother. One day it was just about spring. He saw horses running around and eating the fresh new grass that grew. Camelot never taisted a blade, the only thing in the pen was a pail of water, the post, dirt, and himself. He saw the stallion that looked like him and heard some horses talking as they walked by." They say that he is the old stallion that lived in the Cimarron herd's son! Just like the one who's mother died! Goodness. They are brothers!" Camelot pondered this... Why would.. no... But.. It must be! He began to winnie and neigh and kick and buck until he got thirsty. He would drink and then start again. He kicked down the post some how and got loose of it's grasp. The rope swung in the air as he ran back into the stall and turned and ran, jumping over the pen's fence. He galloped to the pen where his brother was. " Brother! I... I never knew you where here! I didn't know I had a brother!" the stallion awnsered. "I know.. I knew I had one.. My father told me I did.. I am going to escape.. Come with me brother?" Camelot nodded and looked around seeing the men gathering to catch him. " Can you jump brother?" he asked " yes." the stallion said. " GO! jump the fences you have enough room!" So the stallion ran and jumped the fence and jumped the next that held them all togeather. He was free! Camelot jumped and felt a tug behind him. A man had grabbed hold of the rope and was being pulled along!
Camelot shook his head hard and the man let go. He jumped the fence and galloped away with his brother. He couldn't believe it. He was running free with a brother he had never known. He was running away from the horrid ranch he had lived on his whole life. His brother was kind and strong, they told each other every thing that had happened while they cantered to Spirit's herd. Camelot kept to himself about almost every thing but now... He had his brother. They reached the herd at sunset. Jake his brother, ran to the buckskin stallion and showed that he was home. Camelot came swiftly behind, but when Spirit saw the halter and lead rope on Camelot, he reared. Camelot looked surprised. Why was the leader doing this? Surely he had got new horses in the herd from captivity. But what was the matter with HIM? Camelot backed away. Spirit called for his father and the strong stallion came up the herd, he was Spirit's lead warrior. Spirit asked him " Do you know this very strange horse?" Camelot's father looked at him but replyed " no.. This is a stranger I have never seen and will never like" Spirit asked " but isn't it your son?" The stallion reared and said" NO! I don't have anything to do with this THING and I don't want to! Get out of my sight Camelot! Go back to the ranch! You can't tough it out here!" He charged Camelot and Camelot turned and ran down the hill. He looked behind him while running and saw Jake , his brother try to follow. But his father gave him a blow and charged him. Jake saddly went down the other side of the hill and Spirit and Camelot's father watched him leave. Hot tears streamed down his face. He was mad, scared, and unwanted. He wanted to go back and chase his father and Spirit out of the herd. He wanted Jake and his mother back. He sighed and kept running. He became so tired and laid down for the night near a creek. He awoke a sound of feet and hooves and men's voices. He opened his eyes slowly but it was too late. The rope was being held by a man and he was jerking it." Come on boy. Get up" Camelot saw the horses and men all around him. He knew it was no use to fight, he stood up and walked with them. They brought him to the ranch and there he spent a last night in the small stall with old hay, the last night he would see Jed and hear about his day. In a way he was glad. But he never wanted to see his father or Spirit again. He feared his father. He never wanted to see the grumpy man tie him to the post or the one that came and gave him oats. That night he lay in the dirty hay thinking about his mother and his brother. He missed them so, and he wanted to know Jake better. He awoke so early, that he said goodbye to Jed and the other horse next to him. He heard the men's boots coming. He stood by the door and the man opened it, tied a rope to the halter and led him out of the stall. He led him to a trailer and up into it. He took off the rope and hung it on the wall. He walked out of the trailer and closed the door. Camelot was alone and loose in the small trailer, but he did not buck, he did not winnie, he didn't move. He just stood and sighed and shifted his weight on his feet. The truck started and pulled out of the ranch. He did not know where he was going. He may be set free. He may be sent to the slaughter house. He was not sure. He was tired and lay down on the hard floor. He jolted with the truck and was slammed against the wall a few times. The trip lasted two days and finnaly, the truck stopped. Camelot rose to his feet and stood waiting for the man to come. When he did, another man was standing near him. Camelot shivered. He was scared but also... The wind was... Cold... His fur was thick so he was ok though. The man came and tied on the lead rope. He led Camelot out of the trailer and onto... Rocky ground.. Camelot looked around him. He was on a mountain side! There he could see the whole land before him. He looked and then turned his head to the men. The man who drove him was talking to the other and finnaly the new man handed him some money. The man with the lead rope handed the rope to the new man and tipped his hat, walked to the trailer and went down the hill he had come up on. There was a road and the air was frosty and cold. The mountains rose up above hights so high you couldn't see the top. Camelot looked up and then to the sound of the man talking." Well.... Guess your stayin with me.. Your a nice fella huh?" The man reached for Camelot and patted him on the back. Camelot looked surprised again.. This human was kind and gentle. The man said " I won't be the only one taken care of ye. Nope there is Mat and he will be here once in a while when I'm out and bout town." Camelot lifted his head and leaned on the man. " Hey hey!" The man laughed" I guess you like me eh?"  Camelot smiled. He did like this man. He forgot about every thing that day right then. The man led him to a stable. It was attached to the house so the man could go in and out without being outside. He led Camelot into one of the three stalls for horses. Down toward the back there was the barn. It was big and had chickens and cows and goats and sheep. The cow had her own stall. The chickens had a coop. The sheep and goats slept in a large stall and ate hay. Camelot's stall was big. It had a trough on the wall for oats. It had a bucket on the wall for water. Half the stall was soft fresh smelling clean hay and the other half was a wood floor. Camelot looked around and smiled. He sighed happily and the man said " Like it eh? Well this is your new home. My name is Almanzo and I hope you like it here with me." Camelot nudged him and playfuly bit his shoulder, not too hard though.Almanzo pushed him away playfuly and took off the lead rope and halter." Well.. I got my chores to do. See yah boy!" And Almanzo closed the door to the stall. Camelot could see through bars and into the next stall and the next one. He could see Almanzo working through the bars near the door. Camelot sighed and rolled in the fresh hay. He sighed happily again and fell asleep. He was glad to be there. Over time, Almanzo and Camelot became great freinds. Camelot always playfully bit his shoulder and Almanzo would playfully push him away. They where happy togeather. Almanzo trusted Camelot to come home or run free. He let him out into the cold weather where it was almost always snowing. Camelot ran and played along the sides of the mountain. Not many horses where around there because it was so cold. He would pass the little pen that Almanzo would let the sheep and goats be in when it wasn't too cold. The sheep and goats had little blankets tied onto each one and where warm and happy. In spring they would be in the barn and have their young lambs. When the lambs where old enough, Almanzo would take them to town and sell them. When he came home, Camelot greated him with joy and nibbled his shoulder. Almanzo brought in Camelot and fed him. He slept well and then in the morning, Camelot would run outside as long as he pleased. He could run away if he wanted too. Almanzo would let him, but Camelot liked living with him and always came home. Sometimes he would stay outside for a day and come in the next.
