When we left off in part 1 of the story, the Hyenas were working out a plan with Scar to bring curious Simba and his friend, Nala, to the Pridelands, and then eat them. Scar had already left to give Simba the talk about the elephant graveyard, knowing how Simba just couldn't resist.

Here we find the hyenas, waiting impatiently for Scar to return with a progress report.

"Man, I'm starving!" Banzai complained, laying on a pile of bones. "Where the heck IS that dude!?"

Shenzi smacked him. "Be quiet!" She snapped. "You never know when Simba might show up, and YOU could give us away!"

"Geez, sorrr-EE!" Banzai said. Shenzi responded by giving him a very cold stare. This quieted him down.

A couple of minutes later, Scar came slinking back.

"He's coming! And better, with a friend!" He yelled to the hyenas. "Get in some sort of hiding place!"

All three of the hyenas were too hungry to disobey. They ran to the big elephant skull, which was the trio's "hide-out." Silently, they waited while Scar stayed hidden from view somewhere else.

They waited, and waited. Ed became very bored, and started laughing for no reason. "SHUT UP!" Shenzi whispered loudly. Ed stopped, but still smiled dumbly and drooled. Hours seemed to have past.

Suddenly, Shenzi picked up a sound. She perked her ears up, along with the other hyenas.

    "Is that-"

"SH!" Shenzi interrupted Banzai. She then listened more closely.

    "OOF!"

    "Pinned ya' again."

Shenzi grinned as she heard the young voices. "It's them." She told the others. Banzai and Ed grinned evily and licked their chops. They then started to run out.

"WAIT!" Shenzi said. "NOT YET! WAIT FOR THE RIGHT MOMENT!"

They stopped and climbed higher, so they could look out of the elephant skull eye sockets. There, they could see a clear view of two little lion cubs. One was the young prince Simba, and there was another femine one who the hyenas didn't know the name of, but didn't really care. They licked their chops as Simba was about to check out the inside of the skull. All of the sudden, a small hornbill flew in front of him, startling him. The hyenas were startled for a second too, but then they were a little angry.

"Dang it, it's that scrooge of Mufasa! What the-" Banzai's mouth was covered by Shenzi's paw. "SHHHHHHH!" She said.

After Zazu had talked, and talked...and talked.....and talked to the cubs about how dangerous this was, the time finally came. Simba ran up to the front of the skull, and laughed evily. "Now!" Shenzi said.

All three of the hyenas finished his laugh eagerly and walked out of the skull. Shenzi watched the terrified cub run back to his friend and Zazu. "Coward." She thought.

To frighten them, she decided, would be fun. A little... toying around with food never hurt anyone. "Well, well, well, Banzai what have we got here?" She asked in a mysterious tone.

He snickered. "Hm, I dunno Shenzi, uh, whadda you think Ed?" Banzai said, going along with Shenzi's act. He wanted to build up his hunger so the cubs would taste better then usual.

Ed laughed stupidly and shook his head.

"Great." Banzai thought. "He won't scare them one bit." Thinking quickly, he said "Eh huh! Just what I was thinkin'. A trio of trespassers!" Like he could understand Ed.

The three became terrified. Zazu stated it had been a mistake and began to run off. "Oh no, he's not escapin' that easily!" Shenzi ran in front of him and grabbed his tail feathers. "Hey, I know you! You're Mufasa's little scrooooooge!" She said, getting in his face and showing her fangs, trying to scare him even more. Zazu somehow gathered up some courage to stand up to her. "I, madame, am the king's personal advisor!"

"Madame?" Thought Shenzi. "Big whoop. Why, if I-" She was interrrupted by Banzai, who was now circling Simba and Nala with Ed. She decided to join them.

"And that would make yoooou...?" He said to Simba.

"The future king!" Simba said bravely. Shenzi could still sense the fear in his voice, and she smiled. "Do you know what we do to kings who step outta that kingdom?"

"Pft! You can't do anything to me!"

Shenzi was surprised that hadn't scared him. While Zazu was talking to Simba, she thought. "Some nerve." Suddenly, she saw Zazu, Simba, and Nala running away. She was quick to run in front of them. "Hey! What's the hurry? We'd LOOOVE for you to stick around for dinner."

Banzai was getting tired of all this. He just wanted to fill his stomach. "Haha, yeah, we could have whatever's... lion around!" Shenzi and Banzai burst out laughing and exchanged jokes. Until... Ed noticed the trio was gone. He frantically pointed and told them in Gibberish that their dinner had escaped.

"WHAT ED!? WHAT IS IT!?" Shenzi asked, between giggles.

Banzai noticed as well. "'Ey, did we order this dinner to go?"

        "No! Why?" Shenzi asked nervously.

"CAUSE THERE IT GOES!" Banzai yelled. The three hyenas immediately chased the cubs. One, they were hungry, and two, they didn't want to make Scar angry. Banzai managed to grab Zazu.

           "AUGH!" He said in agony.

Ed laughed. "We've got him!" Banzai yelled.

Shenzi laughed as well. "Hey cmon', I bet those kids'll come after him." She began running to the place where they knew was a small geyser that spewed lava.

They ran all the way there with their prisoner, and Banzai forced him to walk up to the geyser. Laughing, he said "Hippity hop, all the way to the birdy boiler!" He then set the bird in, and he was blown up into the air like a comet, screaming. The hyenas were laughing hysterically, until they heard Simba.

"Hey!" He yelled to the hyenas. "Why don't you pick on someone your OWN size!"

            Shenzi smiled. "Liiiiike you?"

"Oops." Said Simba. They then darted away, the hyenas following close behind. Everywhere the cubs ran, the hyenas seemed to be behind them. Shenzi thought it was strange that they were so fast... but it'd still be easy to get them. They lived in the graveyard. They knew all the little escape routes, short-cuts and trips. The three hyenas popped up everywhere. Once, when Simba and Nala were running, the hyenas appeared in front of them, stuck their heads through a steaming geyesr, and yelled "BOO!" They then laughed and snapped at the cubs. They missed. But the hyenas were hungry. They had to keep chasing them.

Shenzi started to get angry as the cubs ran up a pile of bones that would be tiring to climb. But she did anyway, as she saw Simba's friend was having trouble, and she was slipping. "Dinner at last!" She thought. But, as soon as she tried to grip her in her jaws, she got an unexpected, unpleasant surprise in her left cheek. Simba had scratched her! "Brat!" She growled in hyena language.

The three hyenas knew a way to grab the cubs easily. They chased them to a dead end. "Finally!" Thought the three as they growled and forced them to a wall.

"Here kitty kitty kittyyy..." Taunted Banzai.

Suddenly Simba growled. It was a tiny little growl.

Shenzi laughed. "Was that supposed to be a roar?!" She thought. "That was it?! Hah! Do it again, tell me!" She said. She then waited to hear the pathetic roar again, but surprisingly, it was magestic. She opened her eyes instantly. "Huh?" But before the three could ask questions, they felt an intense pain, and someone had swiped them to the ground. Climbing ontop of them to pin them down, was Mufasa.

The three hyenas panicked. Mufasa looked furious.

"Oww! Please stop! Ow ow!" Banzai and Shenzi pleaded.

"SILENCE!" Roared Mufasa in their faces. They jumped.

"Hey yeah we're gonna shut up right now, we swear!" Banzai said.

"If you EVER come near my song AGAIN..." Mufasa said angrily.

Shenzi thought maybe she could get away with this if she tricked Mufasa. "Oh this, this is YOUR son!" She said desperatly.

Banzai realized instantly what she was doing. "Oh, your's?" He asked.

Shenzi obediently shot back a "Did you know it?!"

"No, me? Haha, I didn't know, did you?"

"NO, AH COURSE NOT!" Shenzi and Banzai smiled at each other. "Ed?" They both asked. Ed, being too stupid to realize they were saving each other's tails, shook his head yes. That was all Mufasa needed. He let out another huge roar. Banzai, Shenzi and Ed shook with fear.

"Toodles... !" Banzai said, and then they all shot out from under him. They ran as fast as they could, whooping of nervousness all the way back to the graveyard.

"Man, this sucks. I ain't gonna be able to sit for a WEEK." Banzai complained. His looked at the scratch marks Mufasa had left on his rear. Ed started laughing stupidly. Banzai shot him a glare. "It's not FUNNY, Ed.

       "BWAHAHAHAH! HAHAHAH HUUUUUU!"

       "Hey, shut up!" Banzai yelled.

"WAHAH, hoo hoo hoo hoo!" Ed laughed, and then was tackled by a growling Banzai. They tangled for a moment, until Shenzi, who was standing on a rock, yelled out to them; "Would you knock it off!?" The two stopped, Ed chewing on his leg. Banzai pointed at him. "Well, he started it!" Shenzi rolled her eyes and desended from the rock.

"Look at you guys! We're all dangling at the bottom of the food chain."

Banzai, whose drool was hanging down from his mouth, agreed. "Man I hate danglin'."

"Chyeah." Shenzi said. "Man, if it weren't for those lions we'd be runnin' this joint!"

Banzai agreed once more. "Man, I hate lions!" Shenzi smiled and came up behind him. "Don't push it. They're so hairy and stinky --"

"And man are they UGGGLLLYYY." Banzai and Shenzi started to laugh, until they heard a familiar voice. "Ohh, surely lions aren't THAT bad?" The two looked up and saw Scar sitting on a rock. They sighed of relief.

"Oh, Scar, it's just youuu.." Banzai said.

"Haha, we were afraid it was somebody important." Shenzi said. Banzai joined in. "Yeah, ya know, like Mufasa. Yeah."

Scar rolled his eyes. "I see."

Banzai tried to comfort the annoyed Scar. "Hey, but not you Scar, I mean, you're one of us, I mean, you're our pal!" He reassured him.

       "Charmed."

Shenzi smiled. "Oh, I like that! He's not king but he's still so proud!" Banzai nodded vigourously, and then asked the question all the hyenas had been wanting to.

"Hey hey hey, did you bring us anything to eat? Huh huh? Did'ya did'ya did'ya?" All hyenas' mouths watered and they stuck out their tongues, awaiting an answer. They were supposed to get a reward for killing Simba, but they wondered if Scar found out that they didn't.

Scar sneered, and the hyenas saw him pull out a hunk of zebra. They all started drooling. "I don't think you deserve this. I practically gift-wrapped those cubs for you, and you couldn't even dispose of them." He then dropped it, and they lunged for it.

Shenzi took a big bite, and then looked back up at Scar. "Well, ya' know, it wasn't exactly like they were alone, Scar." She said, her mouth full. Banzai agreed. "Yeahh, what we supposed to do?" He swallowed. "Kill Mufasa?"

        "Presicely."

All three hyenas looked up in question, as Scar burst into song.

By the end of "Be Prepared," all three of the hyenas were hyper, hungry, and having loads of fun. The song had been the best thing that had happened to them... almost all year. The plan Scar had offered was simple; lead Simba to the gorge, start a stampeded, kill Simba, and then kill Mufasa in the process of saving Simba.

And boy, were the hyenas ready.
