There was a time, long ago
When we owned the land.
We could eat what we please
And lie under the trees.
We were a mighty clan.
Despite being not very pretty
We hyenas aren’t that bad.
We are certainly not greedy
We don’t waste more than need be
We kill for sport?!! You lions are mad!
We are clever, us hyenas.
(Lions are all brawn and no brains!)
We are always able to eat
Even if it’s not meat!
We won’t starve when there are no rains.
Now that bully Mufasa told little Simba
To respect all creatures great and small.
Then the brute chases us away
Sorry kids – no food today.
Muffy’s words make no sense at all!
They say we destroyed the Pridelands
And that we brought fear and strife.
If all that is true
Then we ask you
Aren’t we a part of the ‘Circle of Life?’
Wouldn’t we be a natural presence?
Since the savannah is our home?
That ‘graveyard’ is a rubbish heap
Why on earth do we have to sleep
Amongst old elephant bones?
So when you bow down to Simba
And do all that royal fuss.
Hyenas are like you
‘Cos they have feelings too
So please, spare a thought for us.
