It was a grey, wet, drizzling day in the Pridelands. Mohatu was leading the morning patrol, and Rafiki and Zazu were busy making paints. As for Uru, teen Uru, she was busy attacking her sister for the last scrap of zebra, her favorite food. She had just gotten her pinned, when all the warriors in her pride leaped over her head, not even noticing her.
"Rogue! In the Pridelands, next to the watering hole!" They shouted, bounding over leaves and grass. Uru looked to her sister. She was still squealing and fighting for the meat. Uru bit the meat from her paw, and leaped off her sister, curious to see the "rogue." What was a rogue? She had never heard that word before. Maybe it was a letter? No, why would warriors be interested in a letter? She kept bounding towards the lions that were racing ahead of her to the water hole, leaving her sister pouting over the zebra scrap.
There was a large crowd around the water hole, full of snarls and growls. A great roar silenced all of them, and Uru knew it was her father who had produced it. All the lions turned their heads to see King Mohatu. Uru squeezed through the front paws of all the lions, and was eventually at the head of the crowd, next to her father. She looked at all the pride members, and then up at her father. Nothing seemed different?
"Daddy?" Uru whispered. Her father didn't even look at her. "What is a rogue?"
"Not now, Uru. I'll play later darling." Mohatu toned in an irratated voice. His eyes never looked to her. He was looking ahead, at the water hole. Uru followed his gaze. There, standing in the shallow water, was another lion. He had bright yellow fur, and tufts of black shaggy mane falling from his chest and forehead. His jaw was slanted, and he had glowing green eyes. The lion twitched its whiskers, and lowered its head to drink from the fresh water, keeping its eyes on Uru. She noticed the lions long black claws were visible.
"Are you just going to stand there and gawk at me this whole time?" The lion finally growled. "Or will you just follow me around? I'd like to start talking."
Mohatu cleared his throat. "Why are you in our territory, lion?" he finally roared, baring his claws.
"Lion? No. I will not respond to such a name. My name is Ahadi, brown one. Who are you? I innocently stumbled upon the area, after a buffalo horn dug into my shoulder and hip. I need water and food, and this looked not to be a bad place to find so!" Ahadi roared back. Mohatu glowered at the lion. Uru saw the male as an interesting lion, one she hadn't seen before. But Mohatu looked at the lion like he was an insect, a dangerous one, that must be sqashed quickly.
"Ahadu." Mohatu began.
"AhadI! And yes?" Ahadi interupted. Mohatu leaped for the rogue, claws bared. The smart rogue moved aside, and Mohatu fell into a wet puddle, all wet. The pride gasped. Uru looked surprised, but said nothing. Mohatu arched his back in the water, and wiped some mud of his face. Ahadi looked like he could care less.
"What are you playing it?" Mohatu yowled, every hair standing on end. His red eyes burned with fury. Ahadi licked his paw carelessly.
"I need your help, with all respect, Kingy."
"Name's not Kingy!" Mohatu looked to Uru. "Daughter, go get Rafiki, and tell him to bring some medicine herbs! Now!"
Uru bolted off at once, and started for Rafiki's tree.
"Rafiki?" Uru called into the hollow tree when she reached it. Rafiki shifted in the bushes, and greeted her with a warm smile. "I need mixing herbs, for a rogue. My father told me to get them."
Rafiki nodded, and ran into the tree. He was back a moment later, fruits, and herbs stuffed in his arms. Uru thanked Rafiki, and ran back to the water hole.
Mohatu was now looking at Ahadi with both suspicion and interest. Uru sat the herbs in front of Ahadi. The rogue reached out to grab them, but Mohatu smacked his paw away.
"Ah." Mohatu screeched. "If you want to stay in our pride, you must be loyal to our pride. Meaning as soon as you recover, you will hunt, fight, and bleed for our pride. No staying for awhile, if you need these herbs, you need our pride. What is your descision?"
"I'll stay in the monkey pride." Ahadi grumbled, and stuck the herbs into his wound. The wound stopped bleeding.
"My daughter, Uru, will care for you until you are ready to begin training. She will fetch water and food, and change bedding, etc." Uru shot a glare to her father, and was about to protest, but Ahadi lifted his paw to silence her.
"I can't walk well." Ahadi told Mohatu. Mohatu looked to his daughter.
"Help him to the cave next to Rafiki's tree."
Uru leaned against the rogue, and was about to lift his arm, when he violently threw her off him and sent her to the ground. The wind left her stomach. She looked up in shock, and saw that there was now a stinging cut on her own arm. She looked to her father, who was looking at the male with disbeleif and anger in his eyes. Uru limped off the ground, and grunted, "Follow me, Ahidiot."
The male grunted in satisfaction, and followed Uru.
