Jaxson flew through the air, he felt his heart pound in his chest. He heard the sound of feet behind him. "Get back here!" He heard an angry voice yell. Hell no he thought. he ran into a dark ally, and ran around another corner. "Few, lost 'em." he sighed. He walked to his mother's den.
"Mah?" He called. "Jaxson? What are you doing here?!" She exclaimed in excitement. "I ran away.." He said. She understood, and hugged her son. "Where are you going to live?" She asked. He shrugged. "Imma just go hang out with Lightning tonight, bye momma." He smiled, Angel nuzzled him one last time before he left.
Jaxson had lied to his mother. He wasn't going to go to see his brother, he was leaving town. "Jaxson!" Someone called. He turned and saw his father, Jaxs. "Where are you going?" He asked. "I-I'm leaving.." He sighed. "Why- OH, your running away from the humans?" Jaxs asked. Jaxson nodded.
"Well, son, I'm not stopping you. I understand what you must be going through." Jaxs began. "But, its very hard out there. There are bears, hunters, wolves, and many other creatures that can harm you. Please, be careful." Jaxs whined. "I will dad." Jaxson nodded.
After they had gone their separate ways, Jaxson walked up a small hill, and glanced back at his home. "Good-bye, Nome." He whispered.
--
It was his first night in the wild. He had found a small burrow under ground that he was just small enough to fit in. He was scared, cold, and lonely. But he somehow managed to fall asleep.
"Hello??" Jaxson woke up, hearing a stranger's voice wake him. He poked his head out. "Who are you?" A large, green eyed wolf asked. "J-Jaxson.. Who are you?" Jaxson asked. The male wolf smiled, "I'm Keex. I was just wondering why a wolf was in a fox's den." He chuckled. Jaxson laughed slightly "Heheh, I-I'm not a wolf. W-Well I mean I'm part wolf, j-just have half husky, too."
"So, where's your clan?" Jaxson asked. "I.. don't have one." Keex mumbled, a bit ashamed of himself. "Oh... Well, I'm just passing through. So I guess I'll be on my way." Jaxson said. "Good luck. If you find a pack to join, come find me." Keex replied. "I wil-" Jaxson turned around only to see the wolf gone. Not wanting to stick around, he quickly left.
It had only been a week sense he left home, but he was having a bit of trouble keeping himself alive. He had lost some weight, and had some cuts from animals he'd try to hunt. He tried to find that wolf Keex that he'd seen a few days ago, but could never find his scent.
When night came, it brought a blizzard with it. Jaxson felt his paws get colder and colder. But then, he caught the scent of, something. It was similar to Keex's but, yet it was so different. he bumped into a rocky hill and looked up. When he did, he saw a small, grey and black wolf. A female wolf, but she was curled up in a ball. "Hellooo?" He called, the she-wolf turned he head slightly, but not enough to face him.
"Are you alright?" He called again. This time she didn't move. He found a way up the hill and approached the she-wolf. "Miss? Are you ok?" He asked. She just opened one eye and looked at him, the closed it. I need to get her out of this storm He thought. He picked her up on his back and walked through the forest until he found a cave. He walked to the very back and placed her down.
The next morning he woke early, the blizzard was mostly gone, it was only snowing now. He walked over to the small she-wolf. She was still warm, that was good. He poked her with his nose. "Miss, miss, wake up." He whispered as he nudged her with his nose. She slowly stood up and stretched, yawned, and blinked a few times. She looked at Jaxson.
"Where am I? Is this a dream?" She asked, looking around the cave. Jaxson smiled "No, I brought you here, to get you out of that storm."
"We haven't properly met." Jaxson began. "My name is Jaxson, do you mind telling me your name?" He asked. She shook her head, "I don't mind at all." She giggled. "My name is Dasha, but the humans from where I used to live called me Robyn, but my name IS Dasha." She smiled.
"I should get going, I'm sure you don't want me in your cave." Dasha sighed. "No, no, no, this isn't my cave. We can both stay here." Jaxson assured. Dasha blinked, this strange animal was very, kind. "Oh, th-thank you." She said sweetly. "No need to thank me. I've been very lonely lately, and could use some company." Jaxson smiled.
Jaxson's stomach growled. "Sorry, I haven't eaten in a while." He sighed. "Oh... I haven't either. Buuuttt I doo know where we can find rabbits." She smiled, rising her eye brows. "Really?! Oh that would hit the spot!" Jaxson cheered. Dasha giggled to herself, she found Jaxson quite...funny.
Jaxson and Dasha walked about five miles before coming to an open field in the middle of a forest. "There's.. nothing here." Jaxson said, looking around. "Ssshhhh! Just wait." Dasha hissed. Jaxson looked out into the opening, and saw it. A rabbit poked its head out of its den and crawled out.
"Shall we?" Jaxson asked. Dasha smiled at him. "Not yet, wait for more, it will be better to strike then."
"What ever you say." He winked.
"Get low, and walk towards that group of em' over their." Dasha whispered.
Jaxson got low into stalking position, he crawled over to a group of five or six rabbits. He saw Dasha on the other end of the field. He looked at her and she mouthed words to show him what to do. She was telling him to chase them into her direction, and let her catch one.
He liked that idea, but then he thought about it. He didn't want to make Dasha share with him, not because he didn't want to share with her, he wanted her to have her own food. But he did as she told him. He waited a few seconds for them to move a little closer.
It was time, he jumped out of his hiding space, he landed on one of the rabbits, not killing it, but crippling it enough to not move. He chased after the others, straight for Dasha. Just as they reached a few feet from her, she leaped from her hiding spot and landed right infront of the rabbits.
They froze, they looked around for some place to run to. But before they all could run, Dasha grabbed one in her jaws, it shrieked. She broke its neck and silenced it. Jaxson did the same to another rabbit, the rest of them scrambled.
Jaxson carried the one her caught over to the crippled on. He felt bad for it, it had tried to walk away, but only managed to get a foot or two. He put it out of its suffering. He then glanced back at Dasha.
"Wow.." She said, taking a deep breath. "Your... a really good hunter." She said between breaths. "Oh.. th-thanks.." He said, turning a tad red. "We killed three." She suddenly said. "Huh? Whoa, What?" He said, shaking his head. "You killed two, I killed one. There's three." She said. "Oh.."
"Well, there is one way to settle it." Dasha sighed.
"What?"
"You can eat the two you killed, and I'll at mine." She smiled.
"No!" Jaxson shouted. He knew for a fact that wasn't fair.
Dasha jumped a bit, and stared at the creamy hybrid. "We c-could share the last one." He said, looking a little towards his paws.
Dasha smiled at him, "Thanks, Jaxson. Thats very sweet of you."
The two gobbled down their own rabbits, then Jasxon trotted over with the third one. He plopped it infront of her and began eating. Dasha was tempted to join, and very slowly did. Jaxson could feel himself becoming scared, but, why? Why would he be scared about sharing with Dasha?
He shook that feeling off. He finished eating and let Dasha eat the rest. "Hey, there's still some left." Dasha said. "I know, but I'm full." Jaxson smiled, and winked at her.
Dasha paused. Why does he keep winking at me? She thought. Maybe its just what he does.
Dasha ate the rest of the food and they began to walk back to the cave. "Hey, Jaxson why don't you tell me something about yourself?" Dasha asked, the only thing she was sure about with him was his name. "Oh, theirs nothing very special about me... Or my life." Jaxson said, but he whispered the last three words.
"Oh c'mon!" Dasha teased. "Everyone has something exciting happen!"
"Huh, fine. I lied, my life was very.. uh, exciting, but not always in a good way.." He began. "I was born in my moms first litter, I had four other siblings. Lightning, Kevoku, Starlight, and... Crestle. But when I was very young, Crestle was killed by a dog who really hates my parents."
"Oh... What was her name?" Dasha asked.
"Rose."
Jaxson explained the rest of his life, but not whit to many details. "What 'bout you?" He asked. "Eh. To be honest, I-I don't remember most of my puppy-hood. But I remember born into the zoo, and staying there for a few months, then it flooded one day, and my pack got out. And just about three weeks ago, s-something happened to my pack and I got separated. Then I woke up in the cave with you." Dasha sighed.
"Do you want to find your pack?"
"Hell no! Not after what happened." Dasha snapped.
"Well what happened?"
Dasha paused. She really hated having to tell him this, but now that he knew something happened, he would really want to know.
"I-I-I... Made a mistake."
"What kind of mistake."
Dasha sighed. "It was dark" The event began to flash back inside her head.
"It was very dark, the temperature dropped, the ice cold rain made it even worse. I couldn't see a thing. But I knew our pack had an injured deer blocked out. We needed this food. Many of our pack members' had died of starvation. Then, I caught Its scent. I lunged....Then, I heard a shriek of one of my pack members. It was so close to me, I-I didn't know what it was..."
"What next?"
"Well, It was then I realized I hadn't grabbed the deer. But the Alfa female of our pack. She'd lunged for it when I did and I'd grabbed her throught. I killed her. Was so young, I didn't mean too." She felt tears form in her eyes. "They all were shocked, The Alfa male attacked me and left me to die." She cried.
Jaxson felt very bad for her, he'd never killed any of the dogs he'd fought before. He knew she must have felt terrible. "I-Its ok Dasha... They didn't kno-"
"How? How is it ok?! I killed her! I KILLED the Alfa female of my pack! Do you know how bad that is?! I-"
"Dasha. Listen to me. It wasn't your fault. You didn't mean too. I know this is hard for you, but, its good for you to talk about it." Jaxson said, he really had no idea what he was talking about, he just didn't want to see her cry.
"You think so?"
"One hundred percent sure." He winked, knowing how that made her laugh, and she did, she giggled a little.
"Oh, wow." Dasha gasped.
"What?"
"I just noticed how dark it is."
Dasha was right, it had gotten very dark, but thankfully they were not very far from the cave. "Hmhm, and I just noticed how tired I was." Jaxson chuckled. Dasha laughed too. Jaxson walked to the back of the cave and curled up. He closed his eyes, but then opened one to see Dasha, he watched her plop on the cave floor, then he closed his eye.
---
"Jaxsoooonn"
Jaxson raised his head. Dasha was standing at the edge of the cave, there were two tiny lumps on the ground by her feet. Jaxson slowly over to her. Once he reached her, he saw that the lumps were hares. She pushed one with her muzzle over to him.
"Wah--Th-Thanks." He gasped.
"Don't worry about it." She winked.
Jaxson smiled, but then he noticed something was wrong. Dasha had two tiny little scratches one of her eyes.
"Dasha! Y-Your eye!"
"Oh, yeah that.. I-It's nothing I haven't gone through before."
"You sure you're ok?"
Dasha nodded, they peacefully ate their meal, and started the rest of their day.
"Hey, Jaxson."
"Yeah?"
"This is gonna sound kind of strange, but, y-you don't smell like a-a-a wolf."
Jaxson blinked, what kind of question was that.
"Oh, did I not tell you? I'm not a wolf, w-well I mean I'm half wolf, but I'm also half husky." He explained.
"That explains so much." Dasha chuckled.
"Now its my turn to ask a question." Jaxson grinned with a kind of silly or 'trying to look evil' look, which made Dasha laugh to herself.
"Who's... Your mate?"
Dasha paused. She didn't expect that kind of question to be asked.
"Oh.." She looked at her paws, a bit ashamed. "I-I don't have one..."
"Ah, don't be so upset 'bout it. I don't have one either." Jaxson smiled, trying to comfort her.
"To tell ya the truth, I don't know if I'll ever find one." He shrugged.
"Now why on earth would you say that?!" Dasha exclaimed. "I dunno, I just don't think I'm looking for one at the time." He cocked his head and looked down. Dasha rolled her eyes. "Boys are so picky!" She whispered.
"What was that?" Jaxson asked.
"Ooohhhhh..." Dasha stopped talking and blushed. Jaxson trotted over too her and stared at her. This made her look down at her paws. No one spoke, wich was secretly driving them both crazy, Jaxson nued Dasha with his nose, making her fall, he took of running.
Dasha chased after him, she wans't aware of just how fast he was, he stayed in front of her the entire time they ran. Until he tried to make a sharp turn, he slipped and fell on the snowy ground. Dasha stopped and walked over to him.
"You....Ok?" She asked, trying to hold back laughing.
"Yeah.. I guess.. I'm ok.." Jaxson said between breaths. He slowly got up and walked over to Dasha.
"Are you sure you're-" Dasha was about to ask, but Jaxson suddenly scooped her up on his back. "I think I'm ok." Jaxson teased and dumped Dasha on the ground.
Dasha laughed and looked at the sky, the sun was very high. Her stomach growled, and so did Jaxson's. They each new that they couldn't make it on just hares or any other small mamels. But they could tell a herd of deer had been by, hoof prints covered the ground.
"You thinkin' what I'm thinkin'?" Jaxson asked. Dasha nodded.
They followed the hoof prints of the deer, then caught thesent not long after, they eventually found them in a small clearing. Because it was only the two of them, they new they'd have to go for a small one, a fawn or a doe, or mabey if they were lucky, on old or injured buck.
They watched the herd for a while before finding an easy target, a young buck, he was large, but it looked as if his leg was hurt. Dasha crept over towards it and began chasing it towards Jaxson. She bit at its hoovesand swiftly dodged its kicks. Then out of no where, Jaxson leapt for the the beast. His jaws grabbed its neck, it fell to the ground.
Jaxson began thrashing his head back and forth, and Dasha held on to one of its hind legs. Jaxson could taste the buck's blood in his mouth. Finally its head became limp. Jaxson dropped it and Dasha let go of it's leg. They panted heavily.
They began eating quickly and soon ate almost all of the large animal. The only meat left was on the face, around the hooves, on the tail, and along the spine. They were very full and very lumpishly walked back to their cave. It seemed so much farther than before.
When they reached the cave they both walked to the back of the cave and unknowingly slept very close to another. Snuggled together, Jaxson's head ontop of Dasha's, Jaxson had one paw on her back and Dasha was on her side.
That morning, Jaxson woke next to Dasha, his back was turned away hers, he got up and stretched, yawned, and slowly walked outside. It was snowing very hard, but not like a blizzard. Dasha soon joined him and the sat at the front of the cave and watched the snow fall.
Jaxson looked at Dasha for a second, then away, then back again, and out of no where she'd knocked him to the ground and took off into the snow. He got up and chased after her. He could easily see her because of her dark fur, she'd make sharp turns trying to avoid him, but it was no use. Jaxson quickly caught up to her, and jumped on her back.
They both gasped and laughed as they tumbled down a small hill. When they finally stopped rolling and the snow dust fell to the ground around them, they realized Jaxson was ontop of Dasha in an awkward way. Both said nothing and stood up, Dasha blushed, but Jaxson felt...good.
The following 2 weeks was about the same. The hunted hares and a deer here and there, but the two began to feel... Needs. Needs to have more than just the two of them around. But neither would tell the other...
They each wanted to start something. A pack. But they wanted to start it in different ways. Dasha first wanted to start with puppies, then find other wolves. But she had a problem, she didn't know if she would be willing to have puppies with the only male around.. Jaxson, he wasn't even full wolf, but she still felt... Different around him. But in a good way.
But Jaxson just wanted to find other wolves to start a pack. He didn't know who the Alfa female would be, he really wanted it to be Dasha, not only because she was the only one he could trust out here, but because she was making him feel.. Very good.
"Hey, Dasha." Jaxson called. Dasha trotted over. "I-I've been meaning to ask you something." He mumbled. Dasha was getting excited. "I've been wondering. Do y-you think we could... St-start a-a-a pack?" He stuttered. Dasha's eyes widened with joy.
"Yeah! I thought you'd never ask!" She exclaimed, slowly walking over to him. "Great! Do you know where we could find any other wolves to join us?" He asked with excitement.
Dasha's smile slowly turned to a frown. "Oh... I-I-I mean no, no I sadly don't." She stuttered. He smiled to himself. "Its so funny the way you talk sometimes." He laughed. "Thanks, I guess." She sighed Jaxson was confused, he walked in front of her. "Hey whats wrong?" He asked.
"Nothing." She sighed and tried to go around him, but he stopped her. "I'm not letting you go 'til you explain what made you so upset." He demanded. "No!" She retorted. He was determent. He jumped around her and pushed her to the ground. He put his paw on her stomach. "Ah! Stop Jaxson, that tickles!!!" She laughed.
She softly pushed him off of her and tried to run away, in a playfully way. He quickly and swiftly caught up to her and grabbed her tail. She laughed and jumped back, knocking him on his back. She landed on him and the laughed some more. She rubbed her muzzle under his chin, and he licked her muzzle.
They stopped, a bit shocked by both of their actions. The forced laughter as if it was a game. "Come on, lets head back to the cave." Jaxson said. Dasha nodded.
They didn't realize how far they were from their cave until they started walking home. But Dasha felt as if.. They were being followed. She told Jaxson to go on a head and that she'd be back later. "OK, don't be long." He winked and licked her muzzle again.
Dasha's heart pounded, she watched as Jaxson trotted off into the distance. She felt light headed, in a wonderful way...
But she remembered why she had stayed behind. She looked in the woods around her, she could smell something, but couldn't tell what. It then got stronger, and then she realized what it was, a wolf. A large male wolf. She became scared and ran back to the cave.
Just as she reached the cave, she called to Jaxson. "What? What is it?!" He called back, running to her. "I think we're being foll-" Dasha was cut off by a loud howl.
"HELP ME! *cough* *cough* HELP MEEE!!!" A deep voice howled in pain. Dasha and Jaxson ran to the sound and found a skinny red wolf. He was big, about the size of Jaxson, but very skinny, he needed help.
"Whats wrong?!!?!" Dasha asked, as if it wasn't so clear he was starving. The wolf opened his eyes. "Foooooddd." He moaned. Jaxson Quickly brought him a leg of a dead deer he'd saved. The wolf gobbeld it down.
"Thank you." He said. Dasha and Jaxson nodded. "If it wouldn't bother you too much..." The wolf went on, "Could I, join your pack, please?"
