Wolf's Rain Two: Part 8
Aircraft Battles and Bad Dreams
Kiba's eyes widened along with the rest of the pack, though some of them starting to snarl in anger. Toboe narrowed his amber gaze. Great...just what we needed.
"Rain, Blue, Rowan, Toboe, stay here with Cheza!" Kiba snarled, and took off at the gleaming aircraft with Hige and Tsume at his side.
"WHAT?" Rowan yelled. "Why me?!" But of course the three males ignored her. Her jaw dropped at how they could just flick her away like a fly.
With a massive effort, the wolves dodged the blood red lazer beams that struck down at them. Kiba distracted the craft and tried to get it closer to ground, until Tsume lunged and forced his fangs into the grey material. Hige did the same, but had a little trouble since he was a bit out of shape from that kind of fighting.
Blue watched with wide eyes, until Rowan snarled and made everyone go hide near a lot of boulders. Being shoved behind one, Toboe growled slightly but kept moving. He wanted to fight! He was older than he was last time he did, and could do better!
Cheza's pinkish-red eyes widened when Kiba yelled, and was hit with a beam and sent flying into the ground harshly, skidding in the dirt. Blue jumped, as well as Rain, but they stayed where they were.
Toboe glanced at the others, Rown was barely able to control herself from lunging into the fighting. The red wolf growled a bit. I'll prove myself! Though half the reason wasn't for that; it was to show off infront of Rain.
Giving a last look at the others, Toboe lunged on the boulder they hid behind and raced towards his three comrades. Rain burst out, "What the hell are you doing?!" the same time as Rowan and Blue.
Not even glancing back, the young wolf only sped up until he was directly beneath the aircraft. Streaking past, the lazer beams stopped aiming for Kiba and shot at Toboe, though they missed poorly. Being smaller, meant faster...
Rain jumped up and stood on the boulder, though Rowan growled in warning for her to stay where she was. The grey-blue flattened her ears and watched with wide ice blue eyes.
Toboe skidded around a beam, and lunged up at the craft that had lowered to the ground. Hige hung on a bit longer, then dropped to the ground and nearly got hit by a beam himself. Blue lunged out and raced to Hige's side, but thankfully he was alright.
Kiba stood up and shook his pelt, fur bristling and lip curled in anger at the craft, though he started to stop growling when he saw how the craft kept lowering, like it was about to crash. "Guys, let go and get down here!" He narrowed his eyes.
Tsume hesitated and ripped part of the top off before letting go and landing on all fours on the ground. Growling, Toboe wondered whether to stop or let the others take care of it like they wanted. Finally he made up his mind and dropped, hitting the ground, but he didn't back off.
Instead, the wolf curled his lip and waited for the lazer to aim and shoot right at him. Ducking, it went past him and Toboe took off at the aircraft yet again. When Rain yelled, Toboe could hear she was practically frantic. "You idiot, stop it!"
Skidding to a halt, Toboe nearly thought it was Tsume saying it in a wierd way. Yeah, they definately ARE related, he thought.
The craft had been bitten into deeply, and the roof of it was starting to glaze over with flashes of electricity and some of the machines inside blowing up. Slowly the aircraft stopped working and hit the ground, exploding so each wolf had to duck and cover quickly.
When the smoke cleared, Toboe shook dirt and ash from his brown pelt and turned to the rest of the pack. Kiba was racing over to Cheza, and Blue was staring at the craft while standing by Hige.
Toboe felt like something rammed into him and he fell over on the ground. Looking up, he saw Rain pinning him down with a clear snarl on her face. "You are so stupid..." But she backed off, though her fur was still bristling.
"Sorry-" He tried to say, but Rain broke in.
"Sorry doesn't help! What if you had died?"
"But I-" Toboe was cut off again.
"But nothing!"
Extremely and obviously angry, the grey-blue whipped around and stalked off and away from Toboe. Tipping his head, Toboe blinked in confusion. So much for proving myself...
After nearly getting his ears sliced off by both Kiba and Tsume, the day went by very slow.
Toboe was stuck walking after the pack at the very back, head lowered and ears flattened. Rain was walking way ahead and up front, head high and facing away from Toboe. She wouldn't even talk to him!
This mad no sense to Toboe at all. He didn't die, so why was she still mad? Girls were so annoying sometimes.
Just when he thought Rain would never speak or play with him again, Toboe heard her bark.
"Hey, what's that?" The grey-blue leaned forward and squinted to look at something shining in what was left of the winter snow. Curious, the pup raced forward and retreived it while the pack sat to let Blue rest.
Whatever it was she found, she watched it for over an hour until Kiba decided that they should make camp in that area for the night. Blue's pups were close to being born already, and they shouldn't move too much at all.
Cheza blinked and lay down beside Kiba as usual, never making a sound or being a bother like the others. She never complained, and kept opinions to herself, unless she just never had any.
Rain burried whatever it was she found for the night, and went back to the others when it was time to sleep. Blue settled down beside a boulder that would block wind from her, with Hige at her side as usual, who was muttering complaints about being hungry.
Rowan lay a ways off from the pack, and Tsume, who had given up on becoming her mate long before, doing the same but on the opposite side. The two outcasts.
Sighing, Toboe saw Rain go past him with a low growl to lay a little bit away from the others. Toboe put his head on his paws and turned away from the wolf pup. Well if she wants to be a jerk until we find Paradise, fine. Curling up, the tip of his tail went over his nose and his eyes closed tiredly.
Lunging up from his sleep with a small yelp, he felt a paw go over his mouth to keep him from getting louder. Great, it had to be her.
Toboe's eyes narrowed at Rain, who stood infront of him, and he backed away. She tipped her head. "What in the heck were you dreaming, twitching in your sleep like that? All that whimpering was going to wake everyone up."
He gave her a glare. "I dreamt about the past life, is all, when I died. What do you care anyway?"
Rain's eyes narrowed coldly. "I'm your friend still, even if I am angry at you. Maybe I overeacted, anyway...sorry."
Toboe flicked an ear and looked around their small campsite. Everyone was soundly asleep, though Toboe smirked when he saw that somehow Rowan ended up near the others. She wasn't as tough as he figured she was.
"Do you think we're close?" Toboe wondered aloud to Rain.
She pricked her white tipped ears. "To Paradise? I dunno, no clue. I've never gone before, remember?"
"Right, I forgot," Toboe answered and looked at the sky. The moon was still high up and he must have been asleep for only about an hour. The stars weren't visible, they were dying each night. The end was coming near, and the wolves needed to find Paradise quickly. And there was still no sign of Darcia.
Rain padded over and sat down by Toboe. "I'm bored, and I can't sleep at all. I guess I'm just wondering what Paradise is like."
"I can't wait until we get there," Toboe muttered, and almost added, if we get there. "I never did make it to the end where Kiba opened Paradise."
Rain looked at him curiously. "What happened, how did you die?"
"I got shot by Blue's former master, then I was shot again trying to keep Darcia-Darcia was a noble trying to open Paradise, by the way-from killing him. But after I was down Darcia shot the guy anyway. We died." Toboe flicked an ear and lowered his gaze to the ground. He wondered where Blue's human was anyway. And Cher too, even Hubb. Where were those guys?
"That sounds horrible." Rain pinned her ears back, but in some sort of sorrow and sympathy, not in disgust for Toboe's liking of humans.
Toboe tipped his head to the side in suprise. "You don't think that I was stupid for doing that?"
Rain shook her head. She blinked, as if she didn't think Toboe would have given his life for someone else he barely knew. Then again, not many wolves were like that, so Toboe didn't think much of it. "It was brave, in my opinion."
If wolves could blush, Toboe would have immediately looked like a big red firetruck.
