Alright here's the story.
CHAP. 1
Narrated by Toboe
Dark horizons. So far in front of me, but they seem closer than ever. The life I've left behind - the ressurrection - it has ruined my spirit. Once, I had been kind and sensitive - now all that has been left behind.
I am Toboe.
As I lay on the cold snow, trying to wait out the blizzard in human form, I bite my lip til it bleeds. I try to see what's not really there - at least as I thought - anywhere where I would find shelter. But all I saw was an endless blanket of swirling snow.
I was too weak at the moment to go into wolf form, I would've if I could. It'd be the most sensible thing to do, as my fur would reflect most of the coldness, and I'd be warm.
Once again, I struggle to change into a wolf. My four metal bracelets clanked together loudly. In the snow, a moving form appears. It is as white as the snow around it, and it is snarling lightly. I figure out through blurred vision, and a sensitive nose, that its a wolf. But the smell says nothing of what it truly is, or if its someone I know. All I can mumble -
"Kiba? Is that you?"
Before falling to the clutches of unconciousness. The cold had bit too far into my human flesh, and had frozen me terribly.
In many hours, I woke to a sniffing nose. I open one eye. "Eh?" I mumble. A red husky was sitting besides me. I was on the outskirts of a town, and the blizzard had stopped. The white wolf I'd seen earlier was sitting next to her. I noticed that it wasn't Kiba. Some random... female white wolf had brought me to the city. I was grateful, but wondered why. The red husky barked, and I understood her - "OH dear, he's alright. Humans shouldn't be trekking in the blizzard!" The white wolf nodded, and to much of my surprise, dissapeared in a thin cloud of smoke. But instead, a raven sat there, and flew away. I mumbled nonsense, nonsense even I couldn't tell what I was saying. I knew what I was thinking - 'A bird. Looks much like Leera's eagle... too much. But it is a raven...' I turned my head to the husky and sat up. In her language, I asked, "Where am I, and who are you?"
The red husky looked astonished. "A Wolf Whisperer!" The words escaped her mouth in a sort of hiss.
In response, I rolled my eyes. Thought - 'I AM a wolf. Dim-witted female... she must not see my wolf aura... or sense it.' But said - "I suppose, Miss. I asked a few questions, care to answer?"
"Ah. You are in the town of Nome, I'm Jenna. You?" Jenna flicked her tail and looked at the city.
It took me a few minutes. My mind was such a whirlpool of thoughts and confusion, I didn't understand what she wanted at first. Then I frowned slightly. "I'm Toboe. An odd human, you could say. Real confusing."
"You're not too odd." She informed me. "You should see my owner - she's only six and she has the Whisperer power."
"Oh really?" I asked her. There was silence. Then I said, "Do you know somewhere I could rest?" I tried to stand up. She stepped in front of me and growled lightly.
"Yes, but apparently you've had enough of it. Stay seated, while I go get real help." Jenna lowered her pale lips back over her sharp teeth. She ran off, while I sat down, looking carfully, wincing, at my worst injury. The pain had wore off until I looked at it again. It was the wound made in order for my ressurection. I touched it carefully and ripped a bit of cloth from the edge of my shirt, pressing it on the cut. Whimpering only the slightest.
In only a minute, the husky Jenna returned with a doctor. A reddish colored Saint Benard, very fat thing, followed them with a narrowed gaze. I saw he was half blind in one eye, and a scar ran down the side.
Later I was brought to a hospital, where they tended to all my wounds. The odd way they tended to them was pretty weird. But that's in a wolf's amber eyes.
The whole time, Jenna sat watching. Besides her sat a wary-looking wolf/dog. I had read so much about this wolf-dog, and I immediately recognized it as Balto.
I was silent as they healed me and bandaged me up, and when they started to ask questions, I only shortly nodded or shook my head. And now I had some questions to ask.
"So I am in Nome, huh? Nice. Would you mind telling me... are there wolves around?"
Stupid question... I realized. I was in Alaska. Of course there would be wolves around. And I've already seen one, who appeared to be a shape shifter.
"Fearful?" asked the doctor.
Scrunching up my nose, I answered, "Uh, maybe?" Of course I wasn't afraid!! But I didn't know what the people of the town expected. Best be easy on the whole wolf thing... me being one and all...
If there were wolves, I'd be hopeful that one of them'd be part of the gang... hoping that at least one of them would've been ressurected too. Even Kiba returning would be nice, and I never really liked him...
The doctor smiled. "Eh, you're a typical lad."
'Typical? Anything but!' I snarled in my thoughts.
"Don't worry, the wolves stay away. Unless they need help from Balto here, they stay away."
'Worry? ME? Ok maybe... a little? No, more like anxious, good or bad either way..'
I said, "Good..."
"You might want a place to sleep, young one. What's yer name?" The doctor finished bandaging and sat down in a swivel chair, rolling out of the way as I sat up.
A bit angry, I said, "No! I can hold my own. I already have someplace to sleep." Than calming, I said, "I'm Toboe."
I already had spotted a good unoccupied den on the forest near the city. Good spot to sleep, though a bed would be fantastic, a den put me more at ease.
"Quick tempered. Ok Toboe, you may go. Be careful not to walk on your right leg."
I sighed. "Doctor," I said, my words holding half displeasure, "I won't." Turning, I limped to the door. "I suppose I should say thanks?" I rested my hand on the doorframe. "So thanks."
I limped back to the outskirts of the city, finding to my relief that the den I'd spotted earlier was unoccupied - not the slightest tinge to smell of another animal rested upon the cold walls. Normally I would be suspicious, but I simply laid back in human form and fell asleep, my fingers curling lightly over the moss that coated the cave floor...
Unconciosness, but good kind of unconcious- took me over as I fell ito a nightmarish sleep.
Chap. 2 - Nightmarish Returns...
Narrated by Toboe
As I slept, I saw visions of both future and past... Happiness, joy - but in the end I cried from the sorrow and pain... and the memories haunted me like looming demons.
The demons of my past.
-- The clanking of dishes rang so clearly in my ears. I lifted them to listen. Giving my best wolf grin, I spotted my master. An old woman, who I remember as my 'grandmother figure'. In my excitement, I became rough and hyper, tackling her to the ground. She dropped the biscuit she had in her hand, and I heard her gasp for air. But it was so faint, so quiet, I couldn't hear it then. I grinned wider, but only to notice, that her stomach had stopped rising and falling in breath. And a coldness, paleness fell over her face...
Toboe... what have you done? I sat back and laid my ears against my head. I picked up the biscuit, crunching it carefully, praying she'd sit up and say, "Toboe, my boy, you ol' rascal." But I heard nothing - but the silence before the storm of agony - and the rain stood for my sorrow. --
The memory dream - it had pained me terribly. I was still asleep though, and one memory swirled into another.
--"I... killed her... I... didn't mean to..."---
--"You were a pet. Seriously!! An old woman's pet!!"--
--"I'm happy with you here just by my side..."--
An explosion of memory dreams hit me - and then, the final vision was of Leera - I was in my wolf form - and she seemed not to care anymore that I was human too. She was petting me,rubbing behind my ears, and the dream faded away.
I sat up, awake, gazing out into the actual storm that raged outside - the rain falling in thick sheets. The den was slanted upwards so none of the rain flooded in. I closed my eyes, holding my bracelets, thinking of the dreams... it was future and past... the last, I realized with slight joy, was future.
