Visions of a Father

I am a father

Grey, white and brown

To many, known as a grey wolf

However, to my son, I am a giant

Proud and happily

I take my child by the scruff

Innocent, fragile, and alive

Like a little mouse, he’s pushing against my breast

When in the den

It is quiet and safe

Then, almost sweetly, my future appears to me in a dream

And I see myself, old, weak, and submitted

Lying near the warmth of my kin

Waiting for the comfort and joy of my child

Just to see him enter the den

With the gifts…of his smile, his gentle words, and kind and compassionate eyes

Then I wake up and it is still the present

But I have not forgotten the child that I hold

The one whom I will protect and guide

Will some day do the same in return
