There was fresh snow on the ground, when I walked out of my packs den. The entrance was cleverly hidden behind a frozen waterfall, but that will melt in the spring. I loved the snow; it matched my fur beautifully so I could blend in and hunt.

When it doesn’t snow… well… the pack leader, Kiba, has me here to take care of the little ones, while some of the others go to hunt.

Some times, when we cannot hunt for Deer, Elk, Mousse, Rabbits, or any thing else. We go human.

It’s kind of strange that a pack of wolves can turn in to humans but we can. The humans take too much of our food form time to time, so we gained the ability to go human to survive. Not only to get food, but to avoid being hunted or killed.

‘Awake to see the sunrise again, Gail?’

I heard some one call my name. I looked back to see a sliver eyed, gray furred wolf with an X shaped scar on his chest walking towards me, it was Tsume.

‘Yes, I am Tsume. Care to watch with me?’

I asked him happly. Of corse he would join me, he was my mate after all.

He sat besides me as we watched the sunrise together. The dark sky turning all diffrent colors, from dark Vilote, to Indigo, to Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, and Red.

It was so beauteful, as Tsume rubbed his head into my neck affctionatly. He never showed his affrction for me in front of the pack. He was ‘to cool’ for that kind of thing, but that just makes me love him even more.

‘The others are awake.’

Tsume said as he pulled away from me going back into the den, me following him. He was right, as no sooner as I was in the main sleeping chamber I was tackled by a mass of Brown fur, and rolled on my back, looking into happy light brown eyes.

‘Good morning, Gail!’

The mass of brown fur was my friend, Toboe. He was the youngest one of us, not counting the pups, but a good hunter. He was the only one of us to be taken care of by Granny as a pup. Thus him being more confident around humans, as a wolf or human.

As well as being one of the only ones in our pack to have a human item, a sliver bracelet on his front left paw.

‘Morning, to you Toboe.’

He got off of me as I rolled over on to a mass of fluffy tan fur, next to sleek midnight black fur.

‘Time to wake up. Hegi. Blue.’

‘5 more minutes.’

The tan fur mumbled as the blue one stretched. Her name was Blue; she also has lived with humans. An old man who hunted us in the past but is now our protector since we saved his son’s life. She is Hegi’s mate and my best friend.

‘Hegi, wake up. It’s time to visit Granny.’

Our leader, Kiba, also a white wolf (but my fur is whiter, his is more of a cream color.) he came from the alpha’s part of the den, behind him, still sleeping were five 1 year old pups around a light lavender colored wolf. That was Cheza, Kiba’s mate.

‘I’m up!’

Hegi was up on all fours, excited by a trip to Granny’s.

He along with Cheza, were also ones that were taken by humans, but their experience wasn’t as pleasant. They were both experimented on, until a fire broke out and they were free. Cheza wasn’t as lucky; she was blind and weak from the experiments. Both had brown leather around their necks with a metal plate, Hegi’s had an Y while Cheza’s had a Z on it.

We go to Granny’s once a week to give her company and protect her from unwanted or hostile guests help her with chores she can’t do herself due to old age. In exchange we get food when we can’t hunt, and a place to stay when hunters are after us.

‘Alright. Tsume. Blue. You two will search the perimeter. Hegi. Toboe. Gail. Go and get some food from Granny.’

Kiba ordered us and we followed his command, as all 5 of us exited the den. Blue and Tsume, taking to the perimeter.

He would stay behind with Cheza and the pups most of the time; other times it would be up to Tsume and me to guard them.

It’s not that he didn’t trust the others, it just that we’ve been a pack with Kiba since we were born.

It was a few years ago, that hunters came in to the forest, killing just for sport, killed our family. We were the only ones who survived the slather. We were all alone, as we moved on after we mourned for the huge loss. Not even our brothers and sisters, who were only month old pups, survived.

Soon we met Toboe and Granny, followed by Hiegi and Cheza, and then Blue, so we formed a new pack.

Oh! I almost forgot.

In case you were wondering, Granny is our elder wolf, but she lives as a human, helping wolves and animals. She’s one of the first ones who transformed into a human, so she should be about… 70 or more years old in human years. She’s the one who taught us to transform, and for that, we are grateful.

‘Should we run in wolf form, or go human?’

Hegi asked me, since I’m like the alpha when neither Kiba, nor Tsume are around.

‘We go wolf until we’re half way there.’

I told them as we started to run passing threw our territory swiftly. Hegi was at my right as Toboe was at my left. I was in front meaning I was the leader.

This kind of thing happens all the time since I’m the fastest of our pack. Kiba doesn’t mind Tsume or me taking over. Since Kiba is our unofficial leader, any of us can be leader but it’s mainly Kiba, Tsume and I that give the orders.

‘We are reaching the town limits, start slowing down.’

I ordered, and we all slowed down, keeping formation and stopped a wooden sign that told us that it was one mile to the town were Granny lives. We looked and sniffed around for any one who might see us.

‘Ok, coast is clear.’

We transformed into our human forms.

Toboe, as a boy with reddish brown shoulder length hair, light brown eyes, a childish round face that looked to be about 15 in human years. He chose a red trench coat that reached his knees, kaki cargo pants and black boots that stopped around his ankles.

Hegi, as a boy with shaggy light brown hair and honey colored eyes, with an oval face and less baby fat then Toboe, he looked to be 17 in human years. He was wearing a yellow orange baggy hoodie, baggy tan cargo pants, and a pair of white sneakers.

I was a girl with long knee length snow white hair, with red eyes, a heart shaped face, looking to be 18 in human years. I chose a white jacket with black form fitting pants and white high-heeled boots that stopped below my knees.

“Nice form Gail.”

Hegi competent me, Toboe nodded in agreement. I smiled at both of them.

“Thank you, Hegi. So lets go to Granny’s house. I’m sure she feeling lonely by now.”

I said as they noded together.

“Yeah.”

They said and we walked into town, on our way to Granny’s house, but some thing was wrong.

“Hegi. Toboe. Do you know what happed here?”

I asked them as we looked at the closed shops, and empty streets. Usually, some of the shops would be open, but not to day.

Toboe surged, and Hegi sniffed the air, and stopped suddenly, looking pail.

“Hegi! What is it?!”

I asked worriedly, as Toboe and I started to sniff the air. We smelt some thing that we hope wouldn’t mean what we thought it meant. It was Smoke, like a house was on fire.

“You don’t think the villagers…”

Toboe looked to Hegi and myself for an answer, but we had none.

“Lets go see.”

I said and we ran to Granny’s, only to see all the villagers, cheering, around Granny’s burring house.

“The wolf witch is dead!”

We herd one of the villagers yell over the roar of the fire that engulfed her house. We were to shocked to move. I could feel a tear roll down my cheek.

Granny was dead.
