Maddie looked at Balto. "What's wrong babe?" She cuddled up next to him. Balto pushed her away. "Maddie. This is NOT good." Maddie looked upset. "Why?" Balto's eyes widened. "My parents are named Aniu and Devron. We are brother and sister!"
Maddie stared at Balto. "You're kidding?" She exclaimed. Balto shook his head. "No. Im serious." Maddie banged her head against the boiler. "Shit. This isn't good." She said.
Balto looked at her. "Well maybe you aren't pregnant. Maybe we can go to the vet. See if you are. You're probably not." Maddie looked at him. "You think so?" Balto nodded.
Maddie ran out of the boiler room and straight to the vet. Balto followed close behind.
When they got to the vet, Maddie was lifted onto a table and she was examined by Rosy's grandfather. He was the local vet at Nome.
He patted Maddie's head and said, "Well girl. In about 5 weeks you'll have yourself a litter of pups." Maddie looked shocked. "No." She cried out. The vet looked at the frightened animal. He reached to pat her and Maddie snapped at him. She jumped off the table and outside.
Balto was there waiting for her. "What happened? You're not pregnant are you?" Maddie glared at him. "Ya I am." Balto backed up. "It's not my fault." Maddie shook her head. "Yes it is. We should have talked more before we got right "too it"." Maddie cried.
Balto nodded. "Ya your right. But now we're gonna have a litter of pups to look after. Maddie growled. "I dont want you to talk to me ever again." Balto stared at her. "Sis. I have to raise the pups too. They can't be raised properly without a father."
Maddie growled again. "Fine. You help raise them then leave me alone. You can either take them with you or I can keep them with me. But we'll figure that out when we have them." Balto nodded. "Alright." He couldn't make his eyes meet hers.
The next day Balto heard whistling. He heard the pounding of feet in the snow and he looked over the edge of his boat. A vehicle was driving up the snowy path and people were running all over the place. A little girl with red hair climbed out of the vehicle. A siberian husky jumped out next.
"Jenna!" Balto cried. Then a thought struck him. How could he tell her he cheated on her? Jenna looked at the girl who was obviously Rosy. Then she ran towards Balto's boat.
"Balto?" Jenna called. Then a thought came to her. How could she tell Balto that she cheated on him in Fairbanks?
Balto ran over to Jenna. He was alittle nervous. "Balto!" Jenna exclaimed. Balto eyed her. "You have a different bandana." He said. Jenna looked down at the bandana she wore. It was black and inside out. Jenna stuttered, "Y-ya I uh got a new uh one?" Balto rolled his eyes. "Okay." He said.
Jenna nuzzled him and Balto felt the stitching of inside out letters rub against his fur. "Jenna?" He asked. Jenna looked at him. "Ya babe?" She asked.
Balto slid the bandana off of Jenna's neck. He read the letters on the right side. "Jet..." He whispered. He looked at Jenna. "I'm sorry." She said. "I just thought, that maybe you'd have a new mate since I moved away. Then when I got there, I saw my old friend Jet. We had had crushes on eachother since we were little. We both used to live in Applegate until he moved to Fairbanks for his rescue dog job."
Balto stared at her then thought of Maddie. He was disgusted by himself. Jenna looked at him. "I'm really sorry Balto." Balto sighed. "It's okay." Jenna smiled happily. "So how about that special night?" Balto nodded.
"Sure. I was thinking of doing something in the boiler room." He looked at Jenna. Immediatly Jenna thought about Jet. She and Jet had "made love" in the boiler room in Fairbanks. She couldn't bear the thought of doing the same thing with Balto when she was pregnant with Jet's puppies.
"Why don't we hold off dinner though." Balto suggested. He eyed Jenna's stomach. "You're getting alittle big around the hips." He laughed. Jenna chuckled a nervous giggle. "It's not food. I-I-m pregnant." Jenna coughed.
Balto stared at her. "No." He said.
Balto ran away from Jenna who sat on the ground staring at Jet's bandana.
