It was around 4 am when Tiffany awoke abruptly. An unnerving dream left her body in a cold sweat. Her mind still not sober from the nightmare she rubbed her head and slid a chilled hand down her wet face. Turning on a lamp next to her bed she sat up and looked around. Her room was not exactly well furnished. A small work desk, a laptop for her writing, and a few shelves covers in knickknacks that she had collected over time.

The lamps soft light glow cast shadows over the dimly lit room. Looking at the time she mumbled a curse under her breath and crawled out of bed. As she shuffled into the kitchen she pulled a black hair tie off her wrist, and pulled back the brown curls that where becoming a nuisance.

This had not been the first time Tiffany lost sleep due to a dream. Having tried everything to regain the ability she had only failed. Meditation, Lavender, Warm tea, Even the effects pills had warn off. The dreams were always the same, Visions of her erroneous past. Tiffany traced her arm in a trance. Metal images of long lost bruises, and unwanted emotional pain surfaced in her mind. No matter how hard she tried the let things go, they always found a way back.

That morning Tiffany found herself in front of the mirror. Her brown eyes staring back in a pensive manner. Make up cloaked her face. A false sense of belonging washed over her. It was a tidal wave of confusion. The real girl hidden under a mask. She never knew why she wore the stuff. Because the world tells me I have to look this way. That simple thought made her cringe with embarrassment.

Tiffany paced her house seemingly to have forgotten that nights events. The apparitions of her past would have to wait.  To anyone else it would have looked just like another normal Saturday, but she had been waiting for this day for months now. A few old friends from high school had took it upon themselves to relieve Tiffany from her duties and put into motion an over the weekend camping trip. Hesitant at first, she wasn’t sure if taking 3 days off of work would be wise, but after weeks of begging she gave in like always. Tiffany hated to displease. It was her weakness.

A knock interrupted her thoughts. Smiling, she quickly walked to the front door, and opened it already knowing who it was. Before she had a chance to say hello two large arms wrapped themselves around her in a tight bear hug. Kat a girl on the larger side had not wasted anytime in her reunion. Tiffany’s face buried in a sea of blond hair. She hugged back as well as she could before being let go.

“Good god girl. It has been way to long.” Kat’s expression was more then excited, and Tiffany swore her grin went from ear to ear, and before she could get a word in she saw swept off her feet again, this time by a much smaller figure. Sandi had always been the smallest of the three. A person could spend days searching, and not find one muscle on her body.

“I was just telling Tiffany” Kat interrupted. “That it has been far to long, and that she should stop hiding from us all the time.”

“I don’t hide” Tiffany retorted. “I’ve just been really busy with work.”

“Yeah, well that’s why we are taking this vacation” Sandi remarked loudly as she slapped Kat, and Tiffany on there backs.

“We girls need a break every once in a while. Don’t you agree”?

Kat agreed with a nod and an “MMMHMM”

All Tiffany could do was laugh a bit before she was herded out to the car like a sheep.

The drive out to the camp ground was long and tiresome. The radio played in the background of her mind as she gazed out the window watching the trees fly by. She wasn’t sure what she was doing there. The fact that she was there only made her wonder even more.

“How much farther is it”? She asked in a tone reeking of boredom.

“About a half hour” Sandi replied, and then quickly reached over the radio knob. Changing the station she spoke again.

“Here listen to this it will make the time go by faster.”

With that Sandi turned around, and said nothing more.

Not caring for the music Tiffany found herself relining her chair, and falling fast asleep. She was awoken not long after by Kats booming voice.

“Wake up sunshine!”

Tiffany jumped, and went wide eyed.

“Jesus Kat. You scared the shit out of me.”

Kat grinned, and she could see Sandi laughing in the behind her.
