The Wolf's Howl

Prologue

The sun slowly set and the world turned black. A single pinpoint of light lit up the sky. The moon at its fullest. A shadow crossed over it taking the form of a wolf. The beast raised it's head and howled

mournfully

his shape looked enormous to all who saw. It was a common sight. The sight of the night animals ritual on the full moon. No one payed much attention to it. The wolves were not there to humans. When you heard a

a wolfs howl it was something one heard every night. No one really understood the purpose or the meaning, or what sometimes happened during this strange ritual. This is the story of one wolf, his pack, and how the

howl of his species triggered changes in his life. For the better or for the worst, thats for you to decide.

Chapter One

Young Akane was born at the same time every wolf was born. He was to young to yet understand his father and mother's role in the pack as alphas. Occasionally there would be another litter other than the

alpha's but this spring it was just little Akane, who was a litter by himself.

Every night he would drift of to sleep listening to his packs howls. When he was old enough to leave the comfort of his small den his father would walk with him to the top of the mountain overlooking all the trees.

Together as father and son they would howl.

It was on one such evening that Akane's life really began. He and his father were sitting on a ledge of the mountain watching the moon silently. His mother walked up behind them and sat on Akane's other side.

There was a rustle in the bushes. Akane's father only swivled his ears in that direction. His nose already told him who it was. Akane had not yet memorized the smells of every one and he looked around. Aden stepped

from the bushes. Aden was Beta. Second only to the alpha's. Akane liked him. When his father was to busy to play with him Aden always had great idea's.

"Aden." His father rumbled. The dark red wolf dipped his head.

"Alan..I'm truly sorry for this." His growled. The alpha's head came up, but it was to late. Aden was already in the air. His jaws closed around Alan's neck and there was a loud snap. It happened in only a few

seconds. Akane mother jumped in front of Akane. Aden shook his head.

"I've gotten this far. As much as I hate it I have to kill him to." His voice was firm, but there was a look of regret in his eyes. His mother looked from Aden, to the body of her mate, and finally to her son. Her

eyes flashed over the ledge. She backed up and kicked out at her tiny son. He went over. As he fell the last thing he heard was the crunch of bones, and then the victorious howl of the new alpha of the pack.

When Akane awoke he was in a hollowed out tree. He stood up and stumbled out. A young looking grey wolf was bent over a rabbit. He perked and looked over.

"Akane! Your awake!" His eyes gleamed. Akane back up.

"I..don't know you. Are you from my pack?" He stuttered. The wolf sighed.

"I am. But seeing as your the alpa's son you probebly don't know many of the omegas." He smiled. Akane shrugged. The wolf was right. He never really paid much attention to Omegas.

"Wait! Father and Mother--"

"I'm sorry Akane. They didn't make it. Aden is the new alpha. I came to find you so you could tell me what happened. Aden said they were killed by a rogue wolf. But I find it hard to believe Alan would lose to

a rogue." Akane bristled.

"Aden killed them! Mother kicked me off the cliff because he wanted to kill me to! But I lived. Now we can go back and tell everyone!" The wolf shook his head.

"You are only a pup. And i am lower than a pup. I'm an Omega. They would never believe us. For the mean time I will take care of you." He smiled.

"Oh.okay. But I promise that Aden will pay one day." He growled. "Oh. And thanks. What's your name?"

"I am Garren. And if you will allow me, I would like to help you in your quest. Your father was a fair and wise alpha. It's my duty to help and set things right dispite my rank."

"Your rank?" Akane scoffed. "As far as I'm concerned you are more a a wolf then Aden ever will be." Garren chuckled.

"Thanks. Now how about some of this rabbit?"

Two years later Aden was a respected alpha. His pack had grown a little and he even had a young son. One afternoon he woke up from an evening nap. There was a commotion in the clearing. Aden slipped

out of his den. A grey wolf stood there, his coat was bloodied and the four members of territory patrol were also somewhat bloodied,

"He crossed over into our territory depite our warning!" One of them growled. The grey wolf looked calmy around.

"I came to bring a message." He sat down. One of the wolves growled in his ear. He shrugged and stood back up. "Many of you may not recognize me. Who would recognize a simple Omega. I am Garren,

formally of this pack." Aden flicked his tail and walked forward.

"Why have you returned?" He growled.

"My alpha would like to speak with you...and your terms of surrender." He added with a smile. Aden growled.

"If your leader thinks I'm going to surrender to you...he is sadly mistaken." He growled. "I doubt your pack is even half the size of ours! How many is in your pack..little omega?" Garren smiled.

"There are five or six of us." He grinned. Aden threw back his head and laughed.

"Five or six? Against a pack like ours?" the pack laughed with him.

"YES!" The voice echoed off the rocks. Everyone turned except Garren, who already knew who it was. In the entrance to the camp, a red wolf trotted into view. He was followed by four wolves. Two were

obviously littermates, with pitch black coats, they stood close together both eyeing the pack with a bored expression on thier faces. A white wolf stood near the red one, their pelts almost brushing. The last one was a

younger black wolf who seemed to be more concerned about the state of his coat.

Aden walked forward. He eyed the newcomers with an indifferent glare.

"What makes you think that you can take over my pack?" He laughed. The red wolf smiled.

"I don't plan to. I think that you will step down without a word." He smiled. Aden growled. He flicked his tail and his wolves came to stand beside him.

"And why would I do that?" He asked. The other stepped forward.

"Don't you remember me?" He pointed to the mountain. "It on that very mountain that you last saw me. I'm surprised to you don't recale me. All of my childhood life until that day, all I ever wanted to be

was like you. You were a role model for me, just like my mother and father were. And in one day you took all three away from me. My name is Akane..and I am the rightful alpha of this pack!" He howled.

Aden simply stared. His wolves seemed to have mixed feelings. Some were instantly ready to kill him. He stood.

"It's a shame that I have been found out. " He chuckled. "I can see I'm no longer welcome here." He turned. "Any of you still loyal to me come with me."

"No." Akane growled. "We have our own home. Those of you who are loyal to my father follow me. Those of you loyal to the wolf who murdered him..stay here as our enemy." The wolves looked at each other.

one stood up. He glared at Aden and walked over to sit by Akane. Several more came over as well. It was mostly all of the older wolves that had remember Alan better. All the others just sat there with smirks

on their faces. These wolves were loyal only to Aden.

Akane noticed a young looking reddish brown wolf, like himself. The wolf stood up and walked over to Akane and his group. Aden gasped and stood. "

"Wait..Arious! What are you doing?" The wolf looked to be around a year and a half.

"I'm joining Akane father." He walked to Akane without looking back at his father. Aden growled.

"You have just placed a death sentance on your head!" He snarled. Arious looked down.

"You always told me to do what my heart told me was right. Was that a lie to father? I'm tired of your emtpy words." He said. Akane nodded slowly.

"Aden. You were my fathers trusted subordinate. You broke that trust the day you killed him. Those wolves that have chosed to remain loyal to you will die. Those that have remained loyal to me will be

a fair pack again." Garren stood and walked to Akane. He looked back at Aden.

"By the way. I'm not a little Omega. I am my alpha's Beta." He laughed. THe new pack turned and bounded into the forest.
