Kodi stretched in the golden sunlight that shone from the sun in Nome, Alaska. He walked over to his friends, Dusty, Kirby, Molly, Ralph and Pidge. Lately, he had, had some strange feelings about Dusty. He actually thought that he started to like her. He wanted to tell her, but he had a feeling that she didn't feel the same way about him. So he talked with Kirby and Ralph to see what he should do.

"Kirby? Ralph? Can I talk to you?" Kodi asked that afternoon. Kirby and Ralph didn't have anything better to do, so they walked over to where Kodi was standing. "It is about Dusty." Kodi started to say. "Does Kodi have a girlfriend?" asked Kirby. He was slightly chubby but dashingly handsome. Kodi answered, "No.. I..." Kirby and Ralph wouldn't let him finish. They danced around Kodi, singing, "Kodi's got a girlfriend! Kodi's got a girlfriend!" Over and over again. Kodi screamed and stormed away, angrily.

"Kodi?" Dusty asked that very same afternoon. Kodi ignored her and kept walking. Dusty struggled to keep up. "KODI! WAIT!" Dusty screamed in Kodi's ear. Kodi finally stopped, looking shocked at Dusty. She asked, "What is wrong with you?!? Pidge wanted me to ask you why you didn't go meet her earlier when she asked you to!" Kodi looked thoughtful, then answered, "I forgot!" Dusty shook her head and said, "Here. Let me walk with you." Kodi agreed and the two walked silently for several minutes. Kodi couldn't stand the silence. "Hi!" He said akwardly. Dusty looked at him, confused. Kodi gave her a shy smile in return.

Later, Dusty was in the boiler room with her two best friends, Molly and Pidge. They were trying to have a convorsation, but they all seemed to have different things on their minds. Finally, Molly spoke up. "Does anyone here, realize how adorable Ralph looked when he danced around Kodi, this afternoon?" Dusty scolded, "You can't forget Kirby!" Pidge looked at Molly and Dusty. Then she said, "I have an idea. How about we all tell who we like." Molly and Dusty thought about it and they finally nodded. Yes. Molly said, "I will go first." Pidge and Dusty adjusted themselves so they were comfortable. Then they leaned forwards, eager to learn their friend's secret. "Ralph." Molly said quickly. Pidge and Dusty nodded then Dusty said, "Kirby." Finally, Pidge said, "Kodi."

That night, Kodi was tucked snugly under his blanket. He was thinking about Dusty. "I want to tell her how much I love her. I really love her. I just don't want to tell her because if she doesn't like me, I will never be able to face her again." Kodi said to himself as he closed his eyes in a deep sleep.

The gentle pitter-patter of the rain, awoke Kodi. He turned his head, and saw that it was gently raining. "Rain?" He asked himself. He ignored the thought and ran to wake Kirby and Ralph. After they were up, they walked outside into the drizzly rain. Kirby sighed. "You know what? We should invite the girls to do something today. Like a romantic dinner in the boiler room or something." Ralph suddenly suggested. Kodi looked at Ralph suspiciously. Then he and Kirby decided that it would be good idea. Afterall, they all like one of the girls. Maybe those girls like them too. So Kodi decided to go invite Dusty, Ralph decided to go invite Pidge, and Kirby decided to invite Molly. They all set off in different directions to invite the girls.

"Hi Ralph! How are you?" Pidge asked. She looked behind him and sighed glumly when she saw that he was there alone. "I just wanted to invite you to a dinner at the boiler room tonight. Kodi, Kirby, maybe Dusty, and maybe Molly will also be going." Ralph explained. Pidge answered yes and then they walked to the town square to wait for Kodi, Kirby, Molly, and Dusty.

"Hi Kirby! What brings you here?" Molly asked excitedly. She saw that he was alone and acted as if she didn't mind. "I just wanted to invite you to dinner at the boiler room." Molly said she'd go and then shut the door in Kirby's face.

Kirby showed up at the town square without Molly. "Where is Molly?" Pidge and Ralph asked together. "She is getting ready. I think. She just shut the door in my face." Kirby explained. Ralph said rather rudely, "Well go back there and get her!" So Kirby turned around and went to get Molly. He soon returned and Molly had a clean pink bow clipped to the top of her ear. Kirby sighed. He snuck a look at Molly, strucken by love.

Finally, Kodi arrived with Dusty. Dusty snuck a glance at Kirby and thought, Today's the day. I am finally going to ask Kirby. Dusty asked, "Hey Kirby? Can I talk to you for a second?" Kirby nodded and waved goodbye to Molly. Molly waved then she looked at Ralph. She sighed.

"Kirby? I um.... wanted to know..... well you see..." Dusty didn't know how to get the words out. "Yea?" Kirby asked. Dusty decided the best thing to do was to tell him that she liked him first. "I just wanted to tell you, that I think you are very attractive and that I sorta like you. More than a friend." Dusty finally said. Kirby laughed. "You're kidding right?" Dusty couldn't believe it! He thought she was kidding!!!! Dusty shook her head, no. Kirby goggled and he couldn't believe that Dusty was telling him that she liked him! Kirby nodded. Then he said, "Well the thing is. Is that I like Molly. Not you. I am sorry Dusty." Dusty nodded like she understood. Then she walked away, sadly.

"What happened?" Kodi asked Kirby later that day. Kirby acted like he didn't hear Kodi at all. "I asked, what happened?" Kodi snapped, menicingly. Kirby turned and kept walking. Kodi decided that, Kirby was hopeless. Kirby was actually feeling bad about how he had told Dusty no. He felt horrid. Kirby walked all the way to the other side of town. He wanted to be near someone he had held very dearly in his heart.

"Kirby my dear! Come in come in you are going to catch cold out there." The goldish husky cried out. She ushered Kirby inside. "What brings you here?" She asked in surprise. She wasn't used to having her son come and visit her. Her children never visited her. "I need to talk to you. I have a problem with a two girls." Kirby began. His mother leaned in, listening to what her son had to say. "You know Dusty mom? Well she told me that she liked me today and I told her that I didn't like her that way. I mean, I didn't know if she was asking me out or not. And I know that I don't want to go out with her because we are like, best friends. And I think that if I went out with her, I won't have a chance with the girl that I like." Kirby finally finished.

His mother was about to answer, when there was a knock on the door. She got up to answer it. "Hi Tisha! Um? I just wanted to know if Kirby was here? Because he wasn't at his house." Said a very familier voice. That is when Kirby realized that it was Dusty. Tisha answered, "Yea he is here. Let me get him. KIRBY!" Tisha screamed. Kirby didn't answer. He had snuck out the back door and ran home. After a while, Tisha finally told Dusty, "He isn't here. Sorry Dusty. I don't know where he could've gone." Dusty thanked her and ran off.

The next morning, Kodi was wandering around, wondering if he should tell Dusty that he really liked her. He didn't know if he should or not. Then he saw Dusty. She was sitting all alone. He walked up to her and asked, "What's shakin'?" Then he realized that he must have said the wrong thing because Dusty screamed, "WHY!? WHY CAN'T I JUST SIT ALONE AND THINK WITHOUT HAVING CONSTANT INTERUPTIONS!?" Kodi backed off. "I just thought that you looked lonely so I came to see what was up." Before Dusty could respond, Kodi bolted off in the other direction.

Dusty thought, I shouldn't have screamed at him. He was just wanting to know what was up. I screamed out of anger." Then Dusty knew what she had to do. She got up and ran in the direction Kodi had run in. She thought that he was pretty adorable himself and that Kirby wasn't the only dog in the world. She liked Kodi lots now. She finally saw Kodi sitting on a rock, staring off into the world.

"Kodi?" She asked. Kodi turned around and saw her. "Dusty. I..." Dusty put her paw to his mouth. "I am sorry Kodi. I shouldn't have yelled. I was just really sad and also, I want to tell you that......" Dusty didn't go on. Kodi shook away from Dusty and said, "I need to tell you something. Really Dusty. It... it's important." Dusty looked at Kodi, wondering if she could take the news. "What?" She finally asked. Kodi studied her face. She looked scared. But he went on. "Okay. Well. You see. You know how we have been friends for a very long time? Well..... I have had a crush on you and I want to know, do you...." He was cut off from Kirby who had run up to them. "Do you want to be my mate!" He screamed. Kodi looked at Kirby who was looking at Dusty. Dusty didn't know what to say.

"You know what Kirby? I actually can't be your mate. Because I am.... Kodi's!" Then Dusty ran up to Kodi and nuzzled him. Kodi took this by surprise. He nuzzled back, not knowing what else to do. Kirby looked sad, because Dusty was the one who wanted to be Kirby's mate. "You wanted to be my mate!" Kirby cried. "I didn't say that." Dusty scolded him. Then she shooed Kirby away and Kirby smirked, "I guess I SHOULD go. I think you want to be alone." Then he ran away.

"Why'd you do that?" Kodi asked. "Because I love you!" Dusty cried. Then she ran up to Kodi, and touched his nose gently. Kodi returned the kiss. "I love you too." Kodi looked into Dusty's eyes and they kissed again. Kodi glanced sideways and saw Ralph and Pidge doing the same thing. And Kirby and Molly. Kodi looked once more into Dusty's eyes and Dusty smiled. They nuzzled then walked to the boiler room, shutting the door firmly behind them.
