Part 6

Cailean stared at Ahura in confusion and Delight then horror. Now she knew why he had blushed when she had thought about him. It was her turn to become red and she did and backed up a couple of steps.

“It’s ok” he said and motioned for her to sit. They both put their backs against trees and faced each other.

“Let’s talk, shall we?” she nodded and looked at him.

“Cailean, you have a power that is rare, others have it but you haven’t explored it” his voice deepened and soothed her and she listened on quietly.

“I am indeed a mind reader and I know you hold back a stronger secret that you don’t understand”

“You can look into the past of others but you have a far more greater power” he suddenly looked very grave.

“ I hate that you know of my past” he said quietly.

“Noone should know of it” he added. Cailean couldn’t think of anything to comfort him and she looked at him helplessly. His eyes softened as he gazed at her and she returned it and smiled warmly. She felt her own heart stop for a moment and she took a deep breath, looking away. She doubted he felt the same way.

“We’ll sleep here tonight” his strong voice interrupted her thought and she nodded again. Sleep was not possible at that moment and she stared up at the stars that had just begun to speckle the sky. Ahura suddenly rose and looked into the distance. Searching the darkness and Cailean stared at him waiting.

“It’s to quiet” he whispered, and a shiver went down her spine as she gazed into the darkness. Figures slowly emerged from the blackness and she gulped as she recognized images she only heard and saw on television and books. Seven powerful wolves stood and inspected them with curiosity. Ahura looked at them hard and his face suddenly filled with recognition. As fast as he had recognized them, the seven loners bounded towards him and knocked him over. A series of whines and thumps of tails on the ground filled the night air, as other small animals emerged from there shelters to see what was going on. One of the wolves, most likely a yearling, bounded over to Cailean and licked her face. She ran her hands through his thick fur as a smile lighted her face. When the pack finally settled down Ahura spoke.

“They are from Bathazar” he began.

“They must have escaped the confederate soldiers” His voice trailed off and he lowered his eyes but raised them at once.

“They’re guards”

“All male”

“Guarding the premises”

“Why aren’t they afraid of me?” she asked. He looked at her and smiled.

“ You really think your human, don’t you?”
