Note: Andya, Kimba, Naspen, Geive and all others are (c) to ME!!!!!!!!
Scurrying across the cold ground, a mouse gathered the seeds it had stored in the autumn. Its skinny, grey body was hardly recognizable againt the snow as it scampered around in the sparse clearing. Suddenly, a wolf jumped from the grass, leaping after the mouse. He grey pelt had hidden her perfectly, covering the fuscia markings she bore all around her body. She twisted around on the ground, whirling on the mouse. It squeaked, running towards its den on the far left. The wolfess clumsily trampled after it, her breath coming out in clouds. She dove for the mouse, and colided with the snowbank, giving the lucky mouse time enough to escape. The fae got up slowly, shaking the snow from her pelt. She blinked her purple/pink eyes, and sighed heavily.
"Nice sis!" a male voice called sarcastically from the bushes. The fae turned swiftly around, and scowled at who she met.
"Don't you have some other wolves to bug today, Kimba?" she spat crossly. The blonde wolf smikred, and sat heavily on the snow. The white hair on his ruff was fairly long, and it was tied back with a green strap. He squinted at the fuscia and grey fae, and tosseled his head, showing off his traditional black markings.
"Actually Andya, Lightning sent me to get you," he remarked, looking more grave than normal. The fae looked at the brute, and studdied him carefully.
"Is he worse?" she asked. Kimba nodded.
"Janvia doubts he'll pass this winter," Kimba looked Andya in the eye,"He wants you to take his place, Andya." Andya blinked, and lowered her gaze.
"No, Kimba... he wants you to become alpha," she said sadly, and pushed past her brother. Kimba cocked his head, but followed his sister without question.
"Come in, Andya," a weak voice called from within the den. Andya and Kimba were back at their pack's camp. The normal scuffle of everyday life had dwindled to few goings around. Those who didn't have to leave their dens stayed away. Those who had to leave their dens, chose the rim of camp. Few wolves were willing to stroll right through camp ever scince the attack from Tein Pack Andya and Kimba, however, walked freely. They didn't fear The Tein Pack, and they doubted that another attack would occur in the near future.
Andya heisitated before entering the den. Kimba followed behind her, like he always did. Even if he teased her till she mauled him, he would always be Andya's big brother.
"No, my son, I must speak to Andya...alone," the weak voice had come from a pitch black wolf in the corner of the den. His eyes were dull, and his nose was cracked. When he lifted his head, you could slightly see a white blaze of fur. Around his neck, he wore an amulet. None really knew why he wore it, or what it was, just that he defended it feircly and it never left his neck. This was Black Lightning (given to him from the lightning birth mark he possesed on his right forearm), the dieing leader of the Genvi Pack.
Kimba opened his mouth to protest, but Andya was quicker.
"Just go; I'll be fine by myself with dad," she whispered. Kimba held his breath slightly, but obeyed his sister's command, and turned back up the den. Andya watched her brother go, then turned to Lighting. She bowed her head, and paced forwards. It was hard to be joyful when she saw her father in such a state.
"Why have you called for me, father?" she asked, sitting down infront of him.
"Come closer, my daughter," Lighting whispered, and shook his head lamely. Andya paused before getting up and moving forwards.
"W-What are you doing, father?" she asked. Lightning stopped shaking his head, and looked up to Andya. His smile was old and weary, but there was a small spark left in his eyes.
"Take off my amulet, Andya," he said. Andya looked at her father, unable to move. Her mouth hung wide open, and she took a step back.
"Why?" she asked. Her tail tucked neatly between her legs, and she felt her voice shake. A memory flashed through her mind. When she had been very young, her father had been asleep. She had curled up on his lap, and had just barely touged on the amulet, so she could play with it, then her father had woken in a rage, and had flung her across the nursery. Ever since, Andya had dreaded the amulet.
"Take off my amulet, Andya," Lighting ordered again. His voice was level, but still quiet. His unhealthy eyes burrowed into Andya's, and she flinched away.
"Andya... I won't hurt you... I need your help..." Andya's eyes opened wide, and she turned to face her father again. She heisitantly stepped forwards. One step. Two steps. All the while, Lighting awaited her with patience. Finally, Andya had placed her maw on the amulets chain. She pulled it gently, ever so carefully. She grazed it over her fathers ears, and she lept back with a yelp. The amulet had stung her tongue. Andya crept backwards.
"Why did you do that!" she acused her father. Lighting did not look at her, but shook his head dantily. The amulet fell off his head, and he grasped it in his maw. He looked indifferntly at Andya.
"Come here, Andya," he said. Andya stayed put.
"What are you going to do?" she asked warily. It hadn't been a big shock, but enough for her to let go of the amulet.
"I'm giving you the Ozolissis, Andya," Lighting said, and coughed slightly. The amulet fell out of his mouth, but he picked it up again.
"Andya, this will not hurt the owner. It will only hurt the one who tries to take it from them," Lightning said, and beconed Andya over again. As before, Andya walked over slowly. She sat in front of her father, but stayed well away from his reach.
"I want to know exactly what it is first. I won't wear it till I kow," she said stubbronly. Lighting mumbled something to himself, and sat up, grunting. He stiffly stood on his paws, wobbleing a bit. His front feet gave way, and as Andya pranced forwards to save him from a drastic fall The amulet slipped over her head, and slide into place on her neck, as if she had been born with it. Andya gasped in shock, and stepped back, looking down at it. It was the first time she saw it at close range since she had been a pup. The Ozolissis was a glass ball, no bigger than two peas, and inside of it, a foggy substance was changing from black to a fucsia. She looked at her father, astonished. He had laid himself down again, but was breathing heavily.
"Dad!" Andya gasped loudly. At that, Kimba came bursting through. Andya skidded to her father's side, and licked his maw.
"Kimba, get Janvia!" she called desperatly, and looked back to her father.
"Andya.." he whispered. Andya put her face right next to his.
"Yes, daddy? What is it?" she whispered gently.
"Protect... protect the Ozolissis... with your life...do not give it to someone till you are ready... Naspen..." he mumbled. Andya licked her father's maw again.
"I will daddy, I promise."
"Good...good..." and Lighting closed his eyes.
Andya paced infront of the alpa's den. Kimba was sitting down at the entrance, watching her go back and forth, back and forth, back and forth...
"Okay! Andya! Stop that! You're givin' me a headache!" Kimba burst, closing his eyes and shaking his head. Andya sat down with a huff, and looked about.
"Honestly, Andya! It'll be okay, okay? Just... calm down!" Kimba said. Andya paid no heed to him and got up again, pacing in a circle this time. Kimba rolled his eyes and stood up, padding over to a small stream running through their camp. He lapped up the cool water, and sighed, turning around. He yelped, and fell on his back, into the cold water. A female wolf was standing over him, looking at him with curiousity. Kimba blinked, looking up at her.
"Hi..." he squeaked out. Andya turned her head from where she was, and her fur bristled.
"Kimba! That's a Tein spy!" she howled, and lept upon the fae. The fae said nothing, but let Andya tumble her down. Andya pinned the fae down, and snarled in her face.
"What are you doing here, Teinian!" she spat. The fae looked up at Andya, and blinked. Andya waited for a response, but none came.
"Speak, wolf!" she growled. At this, the fae smirked, and opened her mouth. Andya bit her tongue, and looked away. She got off the fae and let her get up. She was a mute. Kimba had gotten up, and was looking at the two girls in surprise.
"What are you doing, Andya!? She's from Tein, isn't she?" Kimba asked. Andya could hear wolves in their dens coming to their entrances, wondering what the commotion was about.
Andya looked around at all the eyes that stared back at her. Finally, she looked to her brother.
"Yes... she is from Tein..." she said, looking the fae up and down. She was a dusty colored one, bearing the unmistakeable makings of the Tein Pack (three strips on your back, and any other designs). But she was a mute. What good to a pack was a mute wolf? From the looks of it, it seemed she had been pourpousfully maimed in such a way. And what was she doing here?
"Then why'd you let her go?" Kimba brought Andya back to earth. Andya looked around again at the other wolves, then back to the fae. She was looking at Andya with what she might call mercy, or even a plea...
"She... she's a mute, Kimba," Andya said. Her eyes would not leave the females wolf's. Kimba looked at both of them, and to the other, and finally, he walked over to Andya.
"That's no reason to let a Tein wolf be free in camp!" he hissed. Andya looked at him, and turned her gaze back to the female. Her eyes had drifted downwards. She knew she would be kicked out. Andya felt sorry for her, and walked over.
"Do you have a name?" she asked, then smaked herself over the head. How could this new fae tell her her name!? But, to Andya's surprise, the fae looked happy, and trotted over to an aspen tree. She pointed at it, and looked to Andya.
"Aspen?" Andya asked. The fae shook her head, and pointed to Andya again, then to the tree. Andya shrugged her shoulders.
"I'm sorry, I don't understand," Andya said, feeling disapointed for the fae. But she continued, pointing at Andya, and then back to the aspen tree. Wolves had exited their dens, and were now crowding around Andya. Kimba pushed through the crowd, ad came to Andya's side.
"Sis, this is stupid! You'll never get it!" he said to her. Andya glared at her brother. She hated it when he told her she could never do something. She strutted up to the Tein fae, smaking her brother with her tail, and walked over to the fae. The new wolf smiled, and pointed to the Ozolissis, then to a notch in the tree. Andya, looked from one to the other and tried to put it together.
"Ozolotch? Aspenlissis? Ozopen?" to each of her guessesd, the new fae shook her head. Andya sat down, and while doing so, brushed up against the fae, as did the Ozolissis.
"Naspen," the amulet whispered.
Andya looked down at the amulet.
Two eyes on it looked right on back.
They blinked.
Andya looked at the fae, who looked right back at her, smiling knowingly. She nodded her head.
"Naspen," Andya whispered back. The fae squinted her eyes, and nodded her head.
"Naspen..." Andya said a little louder. Kimba pushed past the crowd and stalked over to his sister in a huff. Naspen watched him the whole while, her eyes never leaveing his blonde fur.
"Great, you found out her name. Now, why on earth is she here!" Kimba scoweled, glaring at Naspen. Naspen's eyes fell to the ground. Oh, how every day she cursed the wolf who had muted her! A tear slid down her face as she thought of it, and she looked back at the way she had come.
Andya saw the glittering tear on Naspen's cheek, and her heart shouted not to say what she was about to.
"I think she must have gotten lost from her pack or something. We should..." Andya started, but she couldn't finish. Naspen stared back at her shaking her head furiously.
"What?" Andya asked. Naspen bit her lip. She couldn't answer. She looked around, her ears pinned flat against her head, then her blue eyes dwindled on her path. Her ears perked up, and an idea wizzed through her mind. She stood, and bounded through the crowd, who parted swiftly, and motioned for Andya and Kimba to follow her. Andya jumed up, following her immediatly and without question. Kimba sat back.
"What are you two doing!?" he called. Andya's tail pushing behind the bushes was his only reply. Kimba jumped up, and raced after them.
"Hey! Wait for me!" he called after them, and vanished.
Just as Kimba's black tipped design tail left the camp far behind, a dark brown wolf with black markings around her eyes and a band around her neck burst forth from Lightnings den.
"Lighting is dead!" she cried out softly. A hush fell on the clearing. From within the crowd came a small, silver, unmarked wolf with a gimpy hindleg. He limped to the middle of this camp, wolves bowing their heads low. His blind eye scored them all, not leaving one pebble unturned. He sat down with a high heir of athority, and even the greif stricken fae backed away, tears rolling down her cheeks.
"Thank you, Janvia. Now, my pack!" The silver wolf cackled gleefully. He nodded to a black brutish wolf with many a battle scar, and another with cream fur. Both bore no traditional markings. The two wolves smiled, and turned on the wolves, snapping at the crowd. The crowd jumped in surprise, but were too shocked to react propperly. Many other wolves, all unmarked, turned on their packmates. They coraled them into a circle, and they stood around them, all looking feirce. Janvia, walked out from the others, and up to the small silver wolf, who stayed in the middle.
"Janvia! What are you doing?" called out a dusky brown male with streaked hair. The fae turned to him, and smirked. the tears that had been present resembled laughter now.
"Did you think the Tein wolves were the only ones who wished for power over the Ozolissis?" she questioned mysteriously. The brute looked at her, confusion written all over his features. He took a cautious step forwards, but one of the unmarked wolves lashed out at him, and forced him back into the circle. Janvia laughed, and walked coily up to the brute.
"Aw, Colbalt, you were always a faithful beta to Lightning. And thanks to you," Janvia leaned into his ear so she could whisper, "he is dead."
Cobalt's gaze whitened.
"What?" he whispered hoarsly, and stared at Janvia with horror. Janvia smiled slyly to him, and showed her fangs. Then, without warning, she snapped, and her teeth met Cobalt's neck. She jerked back swiftly, opening wound from long ago. Cobalt screamed out, and an ebonite pup raced from the circle, his white-tipped tail the last thing any of the wolves saw as he dissapeared into the bushes.
"Geive!" a blue tinged fae called, and tried to chase after the pup, but one of the guards stopped her, and snarled. A brute stepped up boldly, and took a swing. The crowd broke out into caious, and none paid heed to the silver wolf as he crept into th bushes, following both the pup and Andya's scent.
