THE DOBERMAN
It was just another day. Day like
many days before and many days after. Usual day for people and for dogs… for
the whole world.
A Doberman,
leashed by a short leash, growled and barked at an young pair that was passing by.
A woman
jumped away and her husband told her: “That damned dog! I bet that guy
doesn’t feed it properly just to make it even more aggressive!” He picked up a
rock and threw it at the Doberman. He didn’t hit it but at least it made him
feel better. The dog snarled and tried to
chase that man, but after few steps a strong leather leash stopped him. The dog’s
expression changed…
Like it
realized that his world was restricted by the length of the leash. Dog sat down
and growled as the young pair was going away.
Then it looked into its bowl. Yeah,
that man was right. Master didn’t feed him enough and there wasn’t even the
slightest hope the matter of dog’s diet would improve. The Doberman was slim
and it was very good example of malnutrition. Well… a lot of people claimed
that his master is just abusive and cruel, but the Doberman didn’t agree. He
loved its master, although all what was his master doing for it, was just
feeding it with a leftovers and kicking it occasionally. Its master had been
‘raising’ it since its puppy hood and the dog was grateful even for the treatment
like this. It saw numbers of homeless dogs so it was happy that it had at least
place where to sleep.
Dog’s ears twitched when the door opened
and the master came. The man looked at his dog which whined and tried to jump
on his chest wagging its short tail.
“Bastard!
Down!” Man shouted and watched how the Doberman sat down and whined.
“Are you
hungry?” He asked then and looked at the dog’s bowl. The Doberman licked it’s
maw but man laughed. “I suggest you not to be… because… YOU ARE GUARD DOG AND
NOW YOU ACT LIKE PUP! AND THERE IS JUST ONE CURE… NO FOOD TODAY!” The man shouted
and walked away cursing. The Doberman came closer to the bowl and at least he
licked the bottom of the bowl trying to find remains of his last meal. But it was
nothing that could make his hunger even little bit smaller. Actually, it made
him hungrier.
Even other
dogs were afraid of the Doberman. They didn’t trust him and were afraid of him.
Their fear was multiplied by the fact that they didn’t know his name. And to be
honest nobody cared about it. For them, it was just the dog which meant danger.
And they were convinced it was better not to talk with it. So the Doberman
didn’t know a new family moved to the street where it and his master lived. And the
new family brought a new dog, Starlett. She was a German shepherd dog and she began making new friends soon. And because she was nice to everybody, she had a
lot of friends.
But there was somebody she was
interested in more than anybody else. Each dog she had met warned her of the Doberman.
She hadn’t heard single nice word about that dog. Everybody was describing him
as a bloodthirsty monster and a heartless killer. Starlett couldn’t understand
this. She was strongly convinced that a bad and evil dog simply couldn’t exist.
One day, she was walking with her
very good friend, a German shepherd Tim. They were talking about everyday
matters. Starlett knew Tim had been honest and straight to her all the time, so
she decided to ask: “Tim, please… tell me something about the Doberman everybody
here is talking about.”
Tim raised
his eyebrows and sighed: “Well, I suppose you know all what you need, no? The Doberman
is the worst thing that-“
“The Doberman?
Tim, he has a name! You keep calling him the Doberman like he is a monster
without a name! Like you hate him so! It’s like you don’t want to know him
better!” Starlett sighed. But Tim just smirked: “Look, Starlett, we haven’t
bothered with asking… every time we want to talk to him, he attacks us! And
yes, he isn’t quite popular around here. And… you shouldn’t care about him.”
They made
few more steps and then Tim stopped. The house, where the Doberman was staying,
was near. And Starlett knew it, too. But she was determined to at least look at
the Doberman. Tim sighed but he stayed and watched Starlett going along fences.
She was closer and closer. A well kept hedge was suddenly replaced by plain
wooden slabs. Two or three were broken in their halves, so Starlett could look
inside. And she saw something she would never forget: A thin Doberman was lying
in front of something she supposed was a kennel. But crude and in really bad
shape. She didn’t care about it, though. The Doberman took all her attention.
Its ribs were visible; its body was bruised… and from its mouth was dripping
something that looked like a blood. Starlett sniffed trying to figure out what
it had in its bowl. Weak scent of leftovers and … well, lets say, because the
lack of better words, it was really disgusting food.
‘No…,’ Starlett gasped, ‘that’s not right… we shouldn’t be treated
like this… It’s… It’s not supposed to be this way!’
He looked
back at Tim like she wanted to say: ‘Is
he the monster all of you talk about?’
She saw
just a broken and abused dog… and felt a great sorrow and a pity for it.
Her family
treated her with the love and the respect, so she couldn’t understand this. She looked
at the hole in the fence and realized she could get in. And she was really
determined to do this, but the Doberman raised its head when wind carried
Starlett’s scent to him.
“Who are
you? Stay out of here!” He barked and Starlett hid herself behind the fence
quickly.
And she
knew it… she had the power to change this…
Later that
day she was lounging on her bed in the backyard of her family’s house. It was
time for the dinner and her master came with her bowl, soon. And her bowl was full
of a warm delicious dish. She ate just a little bit and waited for the evening.
Evening came and she knew it was the right
time. She grabbed the bowl, trying not to drop the food in it and headed to the
house where she had seen the Doberman.
She was really lucky. The Doberman was sleeping
and his master either wasn’t home or he was sleeping too for the lights in the
house were turned off. Just the lamp on the street illuminated the whole scene.
Starlett sneaked near Doberman’s bowl and filled it with food from the one she
brought. She was about to leave when she took a better look at the Doberman. She
really wanted to say: ‘Everything will be better…’ or to ask: ‘Please… what’s
your name?’ or to nuzzle him softly, but she decided that wasn’t the best time
for waking him up. So she went away.
Morning came and the Doberman yawned. He
decided to check his bowl as usual ready for seeing nothing in it (as usual).
But he was surprised when he found out it was filled by the best looking food
he had ever seen. He didn’t care where it had come from and ate it quickly.
It was the
most delicious food he had eaten in his life and wondered who had brought it.
He knew just one thing. His master wouldn’t have treated him like that. His
master thought the best food was no food and there wasn’t the slightest sign it
would improve. So the Doberman sniffed around, but he didn’t catch any scent.
But he was sure that the food didn’t fall from the sky.
Starlett was happy inside. She did
the right thing and she was ready to do it again. She spent the whole day with
other dogs but she kept her mouth shut. She didn’t want them to know she was
helping the one whom they considered to be the worst thing they knew. But when
the evening came and her bowl was full again, she went to feed the Doberman.
And again. The dog was asleep and the master was gone. And when she was leaving,
she looked at the Doberman.
“I wish I
knew your name…” She whispered and headed home.
And again… The Doberman woke up in
the morning and once again his bowl contained something different than nothing
or slop. And he sniffed again. And it was there. The weak scent he had almost
ignored the other day appeared again! He decided to stay up next night but he
knew it would be hard. His master wanted him to be on guard all the time and
the Doberman thought it was his duty. Anyway… it was his master… And that was
the point. The master. Well, the Doberman decided to stay awake and to pretend
his slumber.
And that
scent… he wasn’t able to tell whose it was but he was almost sure he hadn’t
smelt it before.
“So… who
are you?” He murmured and looked at his bowl. And the bowl was quiet.
“I wish I
knew your name…” The Doberman sighed and lay down.
The bowl
was quiet but much louder.
Starlett’s head was full of that
handsome Doberman. Well, she blushed slightly… of course… handsome… but almost
each young man is handsome, no? For short, she felt it was her purpose to help
him. She didn’t know why, though.
“Hey,
Star!” Someone cried. It was Tim with few other dogs.
“Wha-?”
Starlett yelped a little because these two words had thrown her back into the
reality.
“I say we
are going to have a little party with others at the old house in the evening.
Will you come?”
“Oh… uh,
well, I… I am little bit tired and-“ she tried to make an excuse because of the
Doberman.
“Come on!”
young husky smiled at her. Well, now it would have looked like rude behaviour.
So Starlett nodded. “I’ll be there. But… I don’t know where it is. I am new
here…” she made the last attempt. “Don’t worry, I will go with you!” Tim
nuzzled her… maybe more than she would have allowed him.
‘Great!’
She thought downheartedly.
And Tim came sooner than she had
expected. She sighed when she realized the Doberman won’t get any food from
her. He wouldn’t have died for sure but… well… she felt something more towards
him. Towards the dog she had fed twice. So therefore she didn’t enjoy the
party. All she was doing there was nothing but lying and weeping softly.
‘Of course,
he won’t die… I’ll come tomorrow.’ Voice in her head said.
‘But what
if he dies, huh?’ Another voice added maliciously.
‘Then it
wouldn’t be my fault.’ The first voice replied.
‘Oh maybe
not… but I bet you want to see him once more.’
‘No! Uh…
well… you got me…’
Well… the Doberman was sleeping. To
be exact, he was pretending the sleep so he could catch the mysterious helper. Alas,
he wasn’t successful. The one he had been waiting for didn’t come.
“Well,
maybe it’s a ghost that comes only when I sleep…” the Doberman yawned and
closed his eyes. He needed the real sleep.
Starlett didn’t like the party at
all. Her head was too full to enjoy all the pleasures the party offered. And
there was no chance to leave it without being asked why. No one was paying
attention to her and it suited her well. She just couldn’t be happy when she
knew somewhere there was the abused dog which was something more than a dog for
her.
‘You love
him, right?’ Again, that goddamned voice teased her.
‘It’s not
your business!’ the first voice snapped.
‘So whose
then?’
‘… You got
me again… ‘
The morning came. It is the one of
the few things you can be sure of. Well, you could ask why did the new day come
or why is the night gone. And answer would probably be the same as the one used
by the people that don’t know the true answer. Or just don’t want to think
about it. The answer is: Because. And it seems it’s good enough for the
majority.
Anyway, morning was pretty cold. And
it was really weird because it was in the middle of the summer. Starlett’s
owner watched the weather forecast and his expression was far from happiness. A cold
weather wouldn’t change; at least they said it; for the next week.
“Love?” The
man called and his wife responded quickly: ”Is there something I can do for
you?” The man just pointed at the screen. “Oh, Mike, this means-“
“Yeah… so I
suppose we won’t go there. I want to have a good weather when we are at a vacation.
So we will stay home. Anyway others wouldn’t go as well.”
His wife
nodded. It had to be a common vacation, but her husband insisted they would go by
bikes and Starlett would go with them. But the rain and really cold nights almost
destroyed their plans.
Starlett was licking her paw like it
was sort of a candy. Although the night, and especially the morning, was cold, she
didn’t mind. Her thick coat protected her well. She stopped licking suddenly.
But what about those who didn’t have fur like she had? And of course, the first
in her thoughts was the Doberman. He didn’t even try to lie to herself. The
master who is able to keep his or her dog in such state has no needs
to let his or her dog in when the night is cold. And Starlett was sure the Doberman’s
master’s heart was as hard as a really hard stone. Yeah, and pretty ugly, she
added. There wasn’t even the slightest possibility that its master would care
about its health. He hadn’t been able to build or to get a proper kennel.
But there
was one thing she was able to do. And she was determined to do it…
Evening came again. And maybe it was
just Starlett’s feeling but it came faster than usual. She decided not to take
any food because she was afraid it could give away her presence and destroy
everything she had done. She let her legs to lead her. Weird… she had gone
there just few times but she already knew the way well.
The Doberman was watching lights
behind the windows of his master house. And when they went out his wishes for dinner
vanished like the lights. He looked up at the sky.
“Well… so
this isn’t good,” he whispered and quaked for it was unusually cold. “Can the
weather change so sudden?” the Doberman wondered but it was all he could do.
His kennel wasn’t providing any sort of a shelter. To be honest, even the Doberman
wondered the kennel was still standing. Its collapse was just a matter of the
time and the Doberman was determined not to be inside during it. So he stayed
outside and after he made himself ready for yet another sleepless night, he
felt asleep. And no wonder. He was doing his best. The whole day on the guard is
exhausting and when you haven’t got enough food and water you get tired really
fast. But the Doberman didn’t have even a proper sleep.
But the night was different.
Starlett watched the other dog
carefully. She knew one bad step could betray her and ruin her work. So her
steps were slow and quiet. ‘Weird…,’ she thought, ‘I have never been so
cautious. So why am I now?’ It took her almost ten minutes to get close enough
to the Doberman. And she was ready to run away if he woke up. But she didn’t
need to run. Finally, she was so close she could hear his breath. ‘Boy… you
should be awake and guard your master’s property,’ Starlett wanted to say, ‘but
I understand you. Maybe I am the only who understand’. She looked at him
better. He was thin and his body was bruised by numerous kicks and other
actions that weren’t supposed to be the part of a good care. Then Starlett’s
eyes slipped down the chain. She guessed it weighted more than the Doberman.
The Doberman’s collar was pretty old. It was made from leather, Starlett was
sure. A simple plain collar. But… she had been expecting something more. Like a
spiked or a chain collar. Because bad and evil dogs are supposed to have such
things around their necks. Or, to be exact, their bad and evil masters suppose
so. It isn’t the dog who chose the collar. It is always the master.
No. The Doberman wasn’t a monster as
everybody claimed. It was just a lone and abused dog. Nothing more. Nothing less.
And even if he had been a killer and a monster Starlett would have run away. She
wasn’t sure what she would have done if the Doberman had woken up and… well,
attacked her. She would have been surprised. But the Doberman wasn’t in the
condition to kill anybody.
And then Starlett gathered all her
courage and curled around Doberman’s quaking body. He was cold and he squirmed
when Starlett touched him. But he kept sleeping unlike Starlett. She knew she
had to stay awake for the whole night. But she didn’t mind it. And soon she
realized she was feeling something more to this dog although she had never
spoken with him before. She didn’t know the tone of his voice but she imagined
the Doberman’s voice was similar to her master’s. Soft but strong. And not
deep. She wanted to hear his name said by the voice she dreamed of. And she was
sure his name was short and sharp. Just two syllables full of a strength and
a power.
But there was one thing Starlett
didn’t count with. The master. Suddenly, one of lights was turned on.
Starlett held her breath and tried to be invisible. And then she saw the face
of the man she disliked. He was completely different. He didn’t look like a drunkard
or a brute. At first sight, he looked like an average man with short hair and…
well, you wouldn’t be able to find him in a crowd. ‘Whoa… stereotypes,’
Starlett’s thoughts couldn’t resist and made at least one note. But her
situation wasn’t as bad as it could have been. The light illuminated just a
small area and the dogs remained in the dark. She sighed with a relief when the
man turned the light off. She laid her head on her paws and waited for the
morning.
The Doberman opened his eyes.
Something strange had happened during the night. It had become warmer suddenly.
And again… that scent. It was all over the place. The Doberman cursed. The one
who cared had come but he simply hadn’t noticed.
“I don’t
know who you are… but you can be sure I will wait for you.” The Doberman
whispered. And Starlett would have been really delighted if she had been able
to hear him. His voice was nearly the same as she thought.
During the day, Starlett acted
normally. She didn’t want others to know her little secret so she took a quick
bath in a mud. So when she came home her first road led to the bathroom.
She hated
bathing, but she was sure the Doberman’s scent was vanishing from her fur and
leaving her along with the mud she was covered in. Her master allowed her to be
in until she was dry. Then she decided to take a nap outside and while she was
lounging near the fence, Tim came.
“Hi, Star,”
he smiled, “wouldn’t you mind if I join you in your doing nothing at all?”
Starlett
nodded and let Tim to come closer. He lay near her and after a while he
whispered:
“Star…
I…We… I- We have been friends since you came here. And… Starlett… I-“
NO, PLEASE, DON’T SAY IT! PLEASE! Starlett’s thoughts screamed at Tim.
“… And I
feel … I think… Starlett, I love you.”
So now Tim backstabbed her, even though he
didn’t want to and he didn’t even know. And the worst was Starlett couldn’t
tell him the reason why she couldn’t be his love.
She
couldn’t tell him and she had to hurt him.
“Tim, you
are amazing friend-,“ She sighed. ‘Well, that wasn’t the best start…’ her
thoughts smirked again. Yes, it wasn’t the best start but it was clear the
rejection was coming. She saw it in Tim’s eyes. “But… Tim, I am so sorry… I
can’t. I like you but-“
“I understand,” Tim got up and
Starlett gasped. Tim… did he know? But how?
“I
understand… you don’t need to explain. Every girl I’ve asked told me something
like you.”
Starlett
wanted to jump up and hug him. Yes, she was sorry for him, but now she was sure
he didn’t know about the Doberman. “Tim… I am sorry. But… but I am sure you
will find perfect mate.” Tim looked at her like she was insane. “They said
this too.” Starlett knew she was rejecting him without the reason, at least in
Tim’s eyes. She stood up and slowly bowed her head. And then she placed light
kiss on his cheek. “Friends?” her voice wasn’t as firm as she wanted it to be.
But Tim turned away and headed home. Alas, he stopped after few steps,
looked at her and smiled. “Friends…” And he was gone.
Starlett
wiped tears from her eyes. She didn’t want this to happen. But heart was
beating for that Doberman.
Sky was clouded and it wasn’t
promising a warm night. The rest of the day was the longest rest of the day
Starlett knew. She was just lying on the grass and prayed for the evening. She
yawned. Well, she had stayed up the other night and now she was tired. And her
head felt on her paws soon.
The evening came and Starlett was
still sleeping. But the one she loved was waiting. He had had a meal earlier
and he had eaten it quickly while his master had been watching him and
murmuring: “I don’t know why I feed it?” Now, the Doberman’s stomach was filled
a little and it wasn’t rumbling at least. He was hungry but he couldn’t hope in
more food. His master would give him just a kick or something painful instead.
He watched the fence carefully and he was sure the mysterious helper had been
using the hole his master didn’t want to repair. The Doberman smirked and
closed his eyes. He or she could be watching him so it was better to pretend
the sleep.
Starlett squirmed as her master
stroked her and put her bowl in front of her nose. The smell of her meal woke
her up quickly. Yes… she had forgotten something! She jerked and looked around.
Her master was gone so she grabbed her bowl and headed to the Doberman quickly.
It was about
So Starlett went through the hole
with the bowl in her mouth. The last time she had been there she had been more
cautious but now she almost ran. She couldn’t resist and the previous
successful attempts made her sure everything would be okay. The content of her
bowl was moved into the Doberman’s bowl soon and after this Starlett looked around.
Perfect. The night was cold and nobody was near. She lay down near him like the
other night.
And then happened something Starlett
wouldn’t ever forget. The Doberman opened his eyes and said: “Who are you? What
are you doing here?”
Starlett
gasped. She had been expecting something more romantic. Like a kiss or at least
a hug.
“I- I-,“
her tongue refused to work.
The
Doberman looked into her eyes. “I know what you are doing here. I know what you
have been doing all the time for me. And tonight, we have finally met.”
Starlett was not able to talk. She just nodded but her face was full of fear.
Yes, she was sure he wasn’t going to hurt her… but ... well, she had been lying
to herself. It was just a matter of the time. And now… Now she was looking into
his eyes, listening to his voice and touching his thin body.
“And I have
just one question. Why are you doing this? I am a monster, do you know that?”
The dog smirked.
“No. No,
when I saw you for the first time, I saw just a poor and abused dog. And I wanted
to help him. So I did. And… I… I will go now of course.” She whispered and her
heart almost stopped. This was not a fairy tale. She loved him but it didn’t
mean he loved her, too.
“No, stay
with me, please…”
Or did he?
Starlett lay back and she held her breath. “I am Starlett. What’s your name?”
“Name?” The
Doberman looked down like he was searching for something. Name? He hadn’t heard
it for so long. And now it was like he took a rarely used book from the shelf.
A lot of dust and content recalled hardly. But recalled. Sometimes you need to
read just one page…
“I am
Rocco, Starlett.” He smiled at her. “I am Rocco!” He laughed and tears of
happiness appeared in his eyes. He couldn’t remember when he had used it for
the last time and now it was like he found himself again. “Starlett… thank
you…” he whispered and…
Their
muzzles finally met.
“Starlett…
You have fed me… you have warmed me… you are talking with me… and there is
nothing I can give you in return.” Rocco bowed his elegant head and sighed.
She just
laid her head on his back and whispered. “Rocco, I don’t want anything in
return.”
She wanted him to say the phrase
which changes the whole world for you. The phrase you want to hear and you are
… well, your happiness can’t be described when you hear it from the one you
love.
But sometimes the one you love doesn’t
love you.
“Starlett,
I…I cannot love you,” Rocco hid his head under his paws. “I cannot… my master
won’t approve this…”
Starlett
gasped.
My master won’t approve this…
“Rocco,”
she finally gathered her strength, “your ‘master’ can’t tell you whom you are
allowed to love or not. It’s your life. Let nobody to decide instead of you.”
“He is my master. He gives me food
and water and the shelter. I have to obey him. He gives me the place I can call
the home.”
“No… he is your master, but he gives
you just the pain, the leftovers and… he abuses you, Rocco!” Starlett had to do
her best not to shout. He was blind and deaf and loyal. The worst combination.
“Rocco, there are masters who give you the food I gave you, who don’t kick you
and don’t keep you on the short chain. They play with you and pet you. Masters
who love you.” She emphasized the last two words. “Just go with me and I will
show you.”
She was about to cry. She was
watching her work was useless. She wanted him to leave his abusive master, but
now it was really sad…
“I can’t
leave him. He cares for me.” Rocco explained in a silent voice.
“Rocco. I
love you. And that’s why I can’t watch you dying here!” She shouted as her
tears were falling on Rocco’s back. Rocco rolled on his back and Starlett’s
head was on his chest now.
“Starlett…
I l-“ He whispered but… His master hadn’t been at home. He had been in a pub
and now he returned. When he spotted these two dogs and realized he had just
one, grabbed a stone.
“GET THE
HELL OUT OF HERE!” he shouted at Starlett and came closer just for better
chance for a hit.
“Rocco…”
She whispered. She wasn’t able to move. The fear petrified her. But she just
spotted the Doberman’s helpless eyes. It was his master… so his duty was to
help him and serve him.
“AND YOU…
WE WILL HAVE A SERIOUS TALK AFTER THIS!” the man threw the stone at Starlett
but he missed. “BE USEFUL AND KILL IT AT LEAST!”
Rocco growled. He was his master…
But even the master can't say
this. Rocco growled once again. The master ordered him to kill Starlett.
Starlett who cared for him. Who gave him something his master had never given.
Rocco jumped at his master and
barked. He didn’t want to hurt him… he just wanted him to leave Starlett be.
Man cried with surprise when he was pinned to the ground and he started to
search for something which he could as a weapon. Finally, he grabbed a chunk of
wood and swung it. Wood hit Rocco’s head and the Doberman whined and collapsed
to the ground, blood scattered everywhere... Starlett gasped. Rocco stood
against his master and paid the highest price… and finally, finally she stood
up, looked at Rocco’s body and ran away.
He killed him…
He killed him…
I killed him…
I did it…
Starlett spent the rest of the night
in tears and deep sorrow. Her heart was ripped to pieces and the whole world
seemed so unfair and cruel. And she felt so guilty.
“I am so
sorry, Rocco,” she whispered and let her tears to fell from her eyes. “I love
you… I didn’t mean to hurt you… and I killed you!”
These words
had echoed in her head until she felt asleep.
And once again, the morning came. Cold days were over and the sun was shining like nothing had happened. Like
everything was alright. But it wasn’t. She didn’t know why, but she had to go
there once again. Her legs were weaker and weaker with each step she made.
The hole
was closer and closer... and the truth too.
She held
her breath and looked through the hole. She hoped she would see Rocco lying
near his kennel, but all she spotted was just a pool of blood and an empty collar.
And the collar was ripped like the master hadn’t wanted to lose the time to
unleash the dog. Rocco wasn’t there.
That was all she needed to see. She
turned back and her head was full and empty at the same time. Her ears were
lowered like her head and she slowly walked away. Then two familiar paws took
her whole field of view.
No.
No!
She looked up. He had a wound on his
head and his neck was covered in blood as he had been trying to rip the collar.
“I ran away… for you… After you left, he thought I was dead... so he went away... but I... I was alive and ... I ripped that collar... and-” He whispered.
Starlett's eyes were filled with tears again “Rocco…”
Bystanders watched them in a silent
amazement. Tim gasped and the rest of dogs that was there couldn’t believe
their eyes. The monster wasn’t… the monster. The Doberman was one of them. “I
suppose… this… is the death of the monster we used to know…” one golden
retriever said. “Yeah… That’s right,” Dogs began to whisper and when Rocco
kissed Starllet even quiet awwww could be heard. “I think we owe him
something…” Tim sighed and slowly walked to the couple and the rest of the dogs
followed him.
Two days
later…
“Honey,
could you do something with that dobe? It sits in front of our door and it’s
waiting for Star, I think. I know it sounds silly, but-“
“Okay. But
it keeps returning every time. And I think Starlett likes it.” Starlett’s
master stood up and was about chasing the Doberman once more.
“No, dear…
I mean look at it. That poor dog is hurt. Look at his head. And I think it’s
hungry, too,” his wife smiled. Yes, that was one of reasons why he loved her.
She was gentle and understanding not only to people, but to animals, too.
“Well then…
I always wanted a Doberman,” The man smiled. He opened
the door and let Starlett to go outside. “How shall we call … him?” he asked.
“What about
Rocco?”
“Yeah… Rocco… I like this name.”
THE END
Well, you made it. This is the
end. And therefore this is the place where I will say thanks to the ones who
helped me, inspired me and so on.
First… why did I write this? I
saw one page about abused dobes and their stories. And these stories were full
of sadness, cruelty, abusing and a lot of them ended with the death. And since
dobbies are my favourite dogs, I felt bad. And I just wanted to write the story
with a happy end. Yeah, there were stories with happy endings, but… Well, we
need more happy ends, no?
So and now… I want to thank
Rebel. She is really wonderful friend and she gave me the ideas for the names
of Starlett and Rocco. So I used them. And I like them, too. Thanks.
And of course Taka_PL who
sacrifices his time to read my stories and provides me a feedback. Thanks too.
So well… I don’t plan a
sequel, so… well… ok…
