CHAPTER 1 : Nuh-uh!  I’ll die first…

“ So Sam what do you say?” A tall man extended his arm and petted his best friend.  He continued stroking his dog before a cute jogger ran down his block.  He immediately ceased his petting, and chased the female.  He was so desperate to find someone, and I don’t blame him considering his last girlfriend moved to Hawaii.  All she left him was a teddy bear he had won her, and the bill to a dress she bought on his credit card.

“Hey, Sammy!  SAAAMMMYY!!!”  I turned around to find Maxine, my dear neighbor, wagging her tail anxiously at me.  “ Yes Maxine?  You called..err…screamed for me, right?”

I smiled back at her and she slipped out a little giggle.  “ I couldn’t help but eavesdrop on your conversation, but your master knows that you can’t talk hmmm?”  The look she gave me when she said this, was one of those looks that made you feel pathetic.

“Well, that’s the way he is I guess.  You know he and I have been friends for so long, I guess we never looked at each other differently.”  Then a voice rang that seemed to be calling Maxine.  The female rolled her eyes.  “ Sorry Sam, I have to go!  Say hi to your master for me.”  A wee bit of sarcasm in that sentence was expressed as she ran to her house.

What a nice dog she was, a little bossy though.  “ So what if my master’s crazy, I guess that would make me crazy too?”  A nervous shiver rolled up my spine at the thought of our equality.  I cautiously went through the doggy door he had make a few years ago, and fell on my soft cushiony mattress.

Nothing a nice nap can’t take care of right?  Within a few minutes I dozed off and was fast asleep.  I was dreaming of me in a red cape saving the world from evil cats.   Yeah you heard me, evil cats.  Then something popped up in my dreams.  I was standing on top of a roof under a starry night, and there in front of me was a darkened outline of what seemed to be a husky.  The dog turned around and I realized indeed it was a husky.  She was stunning, radiant, gorgeous, and above all I knew her name was Emma.

In that moment I was so happy, I ran to her and gave her a big sloppy hug.  In my heart I wanted to tell her how I felt truly, but I knew I could never in real life.  “ Where have you been all this time?” I sobbed, it was so easy for me to start breaking into tears.  She looked up at me and and replied,
“Wakey wakey!  Eggs and bacy!”

I shifted back, “What?”  Had she lost her mind as well?  As I looked into her eyes they were deep and dull.  She was not her at the moment.  Then a familiar voice sprang, “ Sam time to go camping!”

Snapping back to reality, I winced at those words.  When did I agree to go camping?  I ran in-between my owner’s legs and skidded through the wooden floor.  As I looked back he was sliding as well.  “Dangit Sam, I just waxed the floor.  BAD DOG!”  A pair of arms came to capture me as I stood there nearly to the point of wetting myself.

Before I knew it I was wearing the horrible red collar I used to wear when I was younger, and was being dragged by it outside.  I barked and howled furiously as he dragged me out of the lawn.   I did some serious damage there too! In total I had done a lot of damage:
1) I scratched up the wooden floors
2) Made my boss slide through his house
3) Destroyed his lawn on my way out
4) Clawed at the door
5) Removed all his manly tulips and roses in his garden
6) Knocked over a gnome and a flamingo in his yard
7) Accidentally made tracks on his lawn
8) Removed some of the waxing on the floor
9) Possibly almost gave him a heart attack

It was a shame none if it worked though huh?  I was thrown into a cage and was placed in the backseat of his ugly jeep.  “Nuh-uh!  I’ll die first before I go!”  But Maxine was right; he couldn’t hear what I was saying.  So he packed up a few of his, and my thing and rode off.  I fell back in my cage.  “This isn’t fair you kno-“ Suddenly the car came to a screeching halt.  I collided into the front of the metallic part of the cage, and went unconscious.  At least I can dream peacefully.

CHAPTER 2: That’s impossible….

“Ugggghhh…what…where am I?”  Regaining my consciousness and my sanity, I timidly opened my eyes.  At the same time I awoke I could hear my master singing a few tunes from the radio.  “ Superstar where you from? How’s it going…Womanizer, woman-womanizer, you’re a womanizer!”

I quickly covered my ears with my paws trying to escape the off keynotes.  Aside from that I had to as well try to find where the heck we were.  Having adjusted to his “singing” I took one of my claws and picked at the lock until it opened.

Great!  I sprang out of my cage and hopped onto the cushiony backseats.  “Well hey there Sam!  You got out again didn’t you?”  I stared at him blankly.  Maybe he is stupid, or at least very close.

I drew a bark and leaped over to the window.  There were so many cars rushing by us.  It was a scary-beautiful sight.  This was all so breath taking; I wish I could see more of this “lifestyle” often.  Then again, I guess I’d be happy with what I have already.

After countless hours of his singing, we made it to our destination.  As we drove in I swore I saw everyone crowding around his car saying addressing him as Pete.  So, his name was Pete.  I kind of knew his name was Pete, but never really got enough info to call him that.

A kind brunet female jumped in front of my door and opened it.  “Roxie!” I yipped and tackled the twelve year old to the ground.  Roxie was my master’s niece.  Her parents owned a large house by lake Merced.  So that must’ve meant I was at…

“Sammy!” The female chuckled as she rested beneath me.  I lapped her face and hopped off.  Pete helped Roxie up as I ran to the lake.  The sight was so beautiful.  You could see the reflection of the sky in the clear water, and the cute little bass swimming in its far depth.

I jumped in the lake and took a swim.  Roxie soon followed me and Pete who was rushing to play with me, they just couldn’t resist me I guess!  Oh, and to think I’d regret this little trip?

CHAPTER 3: What are you doing here…

The sun began to set as we rested on the shore still very soaking wet.  “Hey Roxie, don’t you want to go back home yet?” Pete nudged her on the cheek.  “But Uncle Pete!  I don’t want to go home just yet!  I love the ocean so much, I feel like it’s calling me to stay!”  Hmmm… even though she sounded absolutely absurd, she was too cute to be corrected.

“Oh dear!  I knew this would happen-“ A unsteady tone in his voice as he turned to his dripping child, a silent pause between them. “ Roxie, you’re becoming a…mermaid!” Pete stood up and shook the pants of his shorts.  “You’re lying Pete!”

“Sure, I’ll just tell your mom (his sister) to burn the pictures of you with your tail.”  She jumped up and chased him back to her house, probably part of his evil plan all along to get her home.  The last bit of rays of light hit my back as I rested there.  It was cute how we spent this much time together, but all these good things would end sooner or later.  So I’d guess I’m just going to have to live in the moment for now, how very antagonizing that was.

When I was about to doze off something happened.  “ Well if I didn’t know!  Sammy-whammy!”  Oh….My….Gawd…. those words tingled up my spine. Was it an older female? No, her voice was so serene she must’ve been around my age.  Sam turned his head to spot a dazzling husky with dull but well-kept brown fur, with a smirk that could’ve meant anything.  And I mean anything.

I utterly froze as my brain took a trip back to “memory lane.”  That night, I remembered she and I had a date for rescuing her. (To this very day I wonder even if I did actually rescue her)  I deafly watched the dog as she pranced up to me.  Gosh, what was to I do?  Talk to her?  Make an excuse?  Pretend I’m invisible?  WHAT!

With that major brain fart moment, I didn’t notice her stick her paw out.  Suddenly my senses came back when she said, “ You’re supposed to shake it, silly!”  Eh?  I’m nervously sweating bullets, and your acting like you just met me!  Sam sighed, calm down kiddo.  Sam let his paw slide into hers as he moved it up, and down, in a very quick manner. “Hi, Emma.”

This little action see to please, Emma, though that smirk held its place, maybe even grew wider?  “Emma?  Wha- what are you doing here?” I asked as I led her to a comfortable spot on the sand.  This was so unexpected, but I was so happy.   Out of nowhere I heard an shhhh…her warm breath tingled around my ear as she drew close to me.

She shifted her weight on my shoulder and rested her head on me.  I nervously twitched my eyebrow, this girl was so weird.  “Sam, I hate when you act so serious.  You make me feel so weak, and I’m usually not like that.”  I gazed in her eyes, and she gazed back.  Her eyes revealing her very own true self.

“ Emma, what do you mean I’m strong?  I’m no hero; I couldn’t even help anyone if they needed me.  I’m just not as strong as you think dear.  When it came down to saving lives, I could never be that person.  Sure if you think about it I have the right genes, I’m strong and smart, but to what it comes down to I’m just a coward.”  Sam’s emotions were pouring out, and Emma was just the bowl collecting them.  Emma shrugged “ Hmph…”

I glared at her.  HMPH!!  I give you my heart, and you say hmph!  You heartless and uncaring witch! No wonder no one likes you?  You’re just a jerk.  Her dull eyes then retuned to me, she probably notice I was biting my lip.  “What I mean dear, is that you put yourself down too much.  You could be the greatest shepherd I know, but you need to have a little more faith!”

She did have a point, but still she should’ve been a bit nicer with that answer.  My body drew back, so what if I did think hard of myself, that was what put me where I am now!  Emma winced in reaction, “Something wrong.”  Her voice sounding as delicate as ever.

I laughed.  I wanted to change this weird topic already.  “ Emma dearest, you still need to answer my question.  What…Are…You…Doing…Here?”  Emma blushed, “ Well, I just wanted to be with you Sam.  I need you, and I know you need me.”

“Right.  How about the real answer why you’re here?”  Emma sighed.  “Fine you got me, Sam my owner’s daughter is here on vacation.  She lives on the house next to that one.”  She pointed to the house next to where Pete’s family was.

“ A coincidence I presume?” Before we could start arguing again, I heard a familiar voice, it was Roxie calling me in. “I’m sorry I have to go Emma.  See you around I guess?”  Sam got up and hugged Emma.  Her reaction was a surprised one.  “Sam meet me at the barnyard tonight at 8:00.  I bet your owners might not come…so find a way.”  She whispered into my ear as she nuzzled me.  “By the way look handsome when you come.”

She said goodbye and walked off.   I walked back as well, but had a strange question in my head, “This was a weird encounter…wait…did I just make a date?”

                                                            ~ooOoo~

CHAPTER 4: Barnyard date…

I kept gazing over at the clock.  Dang, it was a quarter to eight!  By now the family was just washing the dishes, Roxie’s mom washed, Pete dried, and Roxie put them on the rack.  It looked so robotic, how they did that at the same time.  Without hesitation I scratched at Pete’s leg.  “What cha’ want Sam?  Want to take a walk now boy!”  I yipped joyously and held still as Pete put on my fancy collar. It was Italian, with a flowery design embroided in its own fancy leather.

He simply put on his winter coat and led me outside.  It was a beautiful night today, the stars were out and the moon was gleaming; only 3 quarters full at most.  Pete stroked me and knelt at my side.  “Sammy, did you know that tomorrow night there will be an eclipse.  Roxie said it’s very beautiful to see from the lake.”

Oh, so an ecli-eclipi-whatever that word was, was going to happen on the lake.  It must be important if Pete had to tell me.  As he knelt I noticed he was wearing a wristwatch.  Oh no!  It was almost 8!  I quickly ran off into a bush, as Pete wasn’t looking.  He looked furiously for me until he stumbled upon a woman walking by.

With my own eyes I watched as he talked to the girl.  Whatever they were talking about seemed to displease her.  As he whispered something in her ear, he was counter attacked by a prada bag. He fell to the floor, stunned and ordazed.  “Gosh, that dimwit!  He’s out cold, at least I hope so.”

Pleased with the opportunity I ran out of the bush and into what seemed to look like a barnyard.  This must be the place I thought to myself.  As I entered I straightened out my fur.  The running had made it stick up rather noticeably.  While I fixed my hair I felt someone approach me.  “ Sam? Is that you?”

I spun back, both frightened and shocked.  Before my unworthy eyes stood the most beautiful version of Emma I have ever seen.  I only say that, because she never wears a collar.  Though this time, she wore a perky light blue collar with a dazzling golden pendent on her chest.  “Emma, 1457 Maple Avenue, 93088.”  I said as I held her pendant in my paw.

She rolled her eyes at me, “Great reading Sam!  You want a cookie?” She scratched my straightened hair, which obviously stood back up to the friction.  I merely chuckled as I led her into the barnyard.  The crowd was a mix of humans and animals.  Now, I know what you’re thinking, why are they in the barnyard together.  Well it turns out this barnyard was not really for farming or animals.

No, this was more of like a part location.  It had a wooden floor, a D.J, and a buffet table.  But, I guess its kind of cool to have a party inside a barn eh?  Then as we got in I got separated from Emma.  I resorted to staying in the corner…alone.  Uhhh, this felt like prom!  Sam stood erect and played with his fancy collar.

Minutes passed, and the D.J was now playing slow songs. I finally spotted Emma as she was standing by one of the barn’s pillars.  I approached her and yelled in her ear because the music was too loud. “Trouble in paradise?”  As I said this I spotted something come from Emma’s mouth.  Was it drool?  Was it venom?  As usual, I never knew.

She slowly turned to me and, I think, analyzed me.  “Something wrong?” I asked trying my best to get here attention.  Her tranquil eyes rested on mine, “You’re the cutest one here Sam.  Let’s go dance?”  My eyes widened.  What? Wait, what do you mean cute? I said nothing, like I could actually say anything at the moment.

“Ohhh…I see!  You’ll only dance with someone you like huh?”  She gripped my collar and pulled me in.  “ Here let me put a spell on you.  You will like me…You will like me…You…will like…me…” I gave her a look at that can be only described as a ‘deer in the headlights’ look.  “Did it work Sam?”

I nodded my head.  “I don’t dance Emma.”  She simply just took me by the paw and smiled, “Nonsense Sam!  You’ll do fine!”  With that burst of persuasion she led me through the crowd, nearly bumping me into everyone along the way.  We found a good spot and I stood there as she moved her body in an erythematic pattern.  I tried to copy her but stepped on her paws instead.

Sam stepped back and tried to walk away, only to be stopped by Emma as she pulled him back in.  This time she stood by his side and kept pace with his mirroring.  After a while Sam caught hang of it and was now able to special moves and such.  “There we go Sam!  You’re a great dancer.”  Sam grinned as he moved frantically.  “ Oh really?” I asked as I swooped in and twirled her around before I dipped her.

So there I stood, the starts and the moonlight centering on us through the holes on the roof.  She was beautiful, she was everything to me, and her name was Emma.  I blushed and she blushed.  I stared longingly into her hazel eyes.  Then, in a mere moment, she kissed me.  Her warm plush lips crushing against mine.  Emma slowly withdrew as if she wanted to see his reaction.

I simply froze, my face probably in pure derange.  She slid her paw in mine again, “Sam…..you’re face is priceless.”

CHAPTER 5: Someone Like You…

“ It’s such a beautiful night out.  Perfect time to stay outdoors and stare at the sky…or something else.”  Emma cocked her eyebrow in a suggestive manner.  Now, Sam had so many surprises earlier, he couldn’t react.  He stayed rather cool.  “ In your dreams honey.”  He licked her cheek and drew her closer.

They left the barn, and walked and walked and walked; magically keeping each other entertained with simple conversations.  After that grew boring, the duo had a game of tag.  Their game ended on the sandy shore when Sam playfully tackled Emma.  In return, Emma pinned Sam down as she laced her paws on his chest.

Her snobby attitude had disappeared, and with it all fears.  “Sam?” Her eyes drifted onto his, “I don’t want to lose you again.”  His eyes reflected back.  For once they were equal, their emotions were the same.

Sam’s signature grin appeared.  “I don’t either, and I’m sorry I let you down the first time.”  Her nose bent down to his.  Emma could feel his heart flutter underneath her.  “ Truth is, Sam.  I think I’m in lo-” Sam raised his head.  What did you say, you were so close, what did you say!?!  Her eyes averted to something other than Sam.  She got off him and turned her head away.  Taking the hint, Sam got up.

A few feet away from him stood two male dogs.  “Well well well!  What do we have here?  I hope I’m not interrupting something you two lovebirds are doing.”  Emma scoffed with no enjoyment in that joke, “What do you losers want?  Just leave Sam and me alone.”  The two males looked at each other and started laughing.

Emma growled and walked up to what seemed to be the leader of the duo.  In hushed tones they discussed something.  The male grinned and turned around.  Emma did the same and began to run.  What the heck, what was she doing?  “ Emma!  Where are you going?” I tried to chase her, but she shot me down with a glare.  “ Go back home Sam, what makes you think I want to see someone like you.”

My heart sunk in, ‘someone like you’?  I held in the pain and turned around, my tail hanging in-between my legs.  I was disgusted with myself, not only because I was a coward, it was because I thought Emma was someone I could love.  I was stupid to believe such things!

On that, my wonderful night, ended with heartbreak.  I dropped by my still unconscious owner and dragged him back home.  Roxie opened the door and woke him up from there.  But me on the other hand, decided to sulk on the rooftop of their house.  And so the poor shepherd remained the whole night on the roof.

Emma turned back after the male dog had dropped her off at her house.  What Sam didn’t know was that Emma knew these dogs were vicious, their living was to break relationships.  So to save Sam from getting mauled by them because they wanted her, Emma made it look like she broke up with Sam.  To no surprise, Sam wasn’t there.  “Look what you’ve gotten yourself into Emma?  How is Sam going to forgive you now?”

(A/N:  Yes, I’m sorry but the first part is done.  If you guys don’t get why Emma did that, I’m afraid I’m too lazy to explain. : D  So please fav or comment on what you think (or do both).  I will accept any criticism, because that’ll maybe make me stronger…or something like that?)
