The Tempest of Nome

Part 1


Jenna is standing in the snowstorm. A wolf leaps in the air at Balto. Balto jumps up and collides into the wolf and shatters like glass. 

(Jenna scrambles out of her basket and looks around.)

Jenna: Balto….(she stops and calms down)


Chapter 1

Balto charges out of the boat. Beside him is Kodi running as well. 

Kodi: Awe dad, is that all you’ve got?"

(Balto smiles and like lightning he bursts past Kodi almost out of sight.) 

Kodi: "Whoa!" Kodi say’s in a shock, then picks up the pace.

(Finally they reach into town panting heavily. Jenna watches with a smile.)

Jenna: "Go Kodi!

(They both push their heads forward at a finish line. Balto keeps running but Kodi stops and pants more. 

Kodi: A bug was in my eye. (gasping)

(Balto laughs and runs back towards him. Boris bursts out of nowhere and hides behind Balto. 

Boris: Don’t let them find me!

(Balto still pants and regains vocal) 

Balto: Awe come on Boris the weather finally broke, you know how much they like it out." 

Boris: Tag! (Complains Boris as he walks away) "The game is tag! They never tag! It’s always jump on Uncle Boris. They will break uncle Boris back I’ll tell you." 

(Muck and Luck rams into Boris.) 

Boris: "My back!" 

Muck: Sorry Uncle Boris.

Balto: (to Kodi) anyway, good run today we’ll start again tomorrow.

(Balto turns to leave and sees Jenna sitting uneasily on a rooftop looking out. Balto smiles and heads in her direction restlessly.) 

(Jenna closes her eyes and has an allusion of a fight, and a she sees eyes. She can’t make out whose eyes, but they are familiar.) 

Balto: Looking for planet earth, are we?

(Jenna jumps a little. Balto is sitting next to her smiling.)

Balto: I missed you. 

Jenna: I…. was just day-dreaming a little bit. (Looks a little concerned.) Balto, you know how we’ve been….

Balto: I know, (sincerely) we need a little more time…. 

Jenna: No! I don’t want any more time. 

(Balto looks up.)

Jenna: I want things like the way they were before. I us want to be us again 

Balto: (concerned) Jenna, if you feel I’m making things hard…. 

Jenna: Balto.

Balto: Cause we haven’t spoken for so long and I feel that’s where we’ll be….

Jenna: No! I need you. And I know you need me. (leans against Balto) 

Balto: We…. Need each other.

(The two walks across the roof in the night)

 

(Jenna)

Boris: (heard from outside the shed) Stella! I’m home! Stell…. 

(Boris is interrupted by the smothering voice of Stella.)

Stella: Ah, my gooshy wooshy Boris honey! How was your day?"

Boris: (tries to regroup) Stella, Stella, please…., not now. I have good news….

Stella: (cheers in joy) "Boris your rash, it’s gone!"

Boris: (shakes his head) No,no,no,no,no,no…., not that good…. Anyway. Balto and Jenna they are one again. The lovers reunited. Tonight, we fly!"

Stella: (bored) "Oh my lovely Boris, not tonight. The ground is to tradition to me…." "Be that as it may, the sky never gets old." 

Stella: (excited) You mean….Come my dear, Boris takes Stella’s wing as if a hand the clouds are waiting." 

(The two fly off into the night. A wolf walking across the snow looks up and sees them) The wolf grows a sadistic smile. 

Celtic: Boris? 


Chapter 2

The sun rises again

(Balto and Kodi darts out of the boat again at full speed head to head) 

Balto: Can you keep up Kodi?" (smiling)

( Kodi pushes forward with his eyes close Gauging his strength.)

(Kodi is moving very fast. Then he opens his eyes to find he’s lost in a forest. Suddenly he rushes to a halt and looks around. There are rustling leaves getting louder and louder.) 

Balto: (running then stops and pants while looking around) I’m getting to old for this.

Kodi: (calls out) Hello? Someone there? 

(The leaves rustle faster and faster. Kodi begins to panic.) 

Kodi: Come on dad this isn’t funny?" Suddenly the sounds stop. 

(Kodi’s face is a priceless fear. He turns around slowly. Finally he sees another wolf around his age staring at him petrified.) 

Wolf: (whisper) Kodi?.

Kodi: (senseless) Kodi? 

(Suddenly large wolves lash out of the darkness circling Kodi laughing deadly. They start to close on him. The wolf takes off.)

Kodi: Hey wait….

(The wolf from before blocks him)

Celtic: Going some where (snickering) 

Balto: Lay one paw on him and I’ll rip you to pieces! (warning quietly but fiercely) 

(The four wolves turn and see that it’s Balto.) 

(One wolf laughs) 

Wolf: Yeah, half breed? You and what army? 

Behind Balto is the trio of Nikki, Kaltag, and Star. 

(Celtic darts in front angrily)

Celtic: Come on then!

(tension builds quickly. Then everyone turns and looks up on the forest hill to see Niju. 

Niju: Balto!

(Niju leaps of the forest mound and stands in front of his army.)

Balto: You….

Niju It’s a small, small world. And from the sound of it, you’re not too happy to see me.

Kaltag: That is the ugliest, the most repulsive, the most conniving…. 

Star: Traitor!

(Kaltag raises his fist wails Star on the head) 

Niju: I’m sorry, (sarcastically) it seems we must have stepped into the wrong territory.

Balto: (glances around at Niju’s clan.) Your new pack?

Niju: Well my last encounter didn’t end so well with my old "Family". I wanted to help but…. You know.

Balto: (deeply) What happened to them?

Niju: The clan? Relocated without me.

Balto: Nava?

Niju: I’m here alone….

Balto: (looks left end right very seriously) Aleu?

(Niju’s eye twitched. Kodi steps forward concerned)

Niju: Vanished

Balto: I see.

(Celtic breaks the moment with rage) 

Celtic: Enough! Niju, we did not come here for small talk.

Niju: I’ll say what we came for! Mind your place, (warns) second in command.

(Celtic snarls and marches back disagreeably. On the way he gives Kodi a threatening look.)

Niju: A storm is coming in.

Balto: You’re welcome to stay.

Niju: That might be a problem.

Kodi: There is enough space for all of us.

Balto: Kodi is right. 

Niju: We do not…. Spare very well.

Nikki: You’ll have to learn then.

Kaltag: Or be taught….

(Two wolves confront Kaltag.)

Wolves: Or we could teach you a few things as well.

Balto: Enough! There is plenty of food and space for everyone if we share. 

Wolves: We don’t answer to anyone! Right Niju.

(Niju becomes indecisive for a moment. He turns to Balto and gives him an apologetic look) 

Balto: (Pleading look) Niju?….

Niju: I stand by my pack.

(The wolves smile and begin to mildly cheer. Celtic flashes a gratifying smile.)

Niju: You want peace? Stay out of our way!

(The pack separates from the woods laughing. Kodi goes by Balto. Balto feels somewhat of a consolation. They depart from the woods in the other direction.)

(Jenna walks downtown and sees a couple with a baby. She begins to tear up with a slight smile, then has a flashback of her and Balto with a puppy in the basket.)

Jenna: (Sniffs) Eli….

Chapter 3

Balto stands outside the boat. Eyes closed.

Voice: A storm is comming….

(Balto turns around)

Nava: You’re mother say’s in the wind.

Balto: I wish I could see her.

(sits next to Balto)

Nava: Meditation….

Balto: It’s just not the same.

Nava: It’s hard.

Balto: I can’t stop thinking about…. Eli.

Nava: Your son?

Balto: (swallows) You can always expect one to…. but…. (clears throat)

(Nava closes his eyes)

Balto: Will you pray for him?

Nava: I will.

Balto: Everyday?

Nava: With every breath.

Balto: (with idea) Aleu! Have you….

Nava: (shakes his head) I haven’t seen her since the pack

(Kodi quietly sneaks by the boat.)

Balto: Nava, I’m afraid. 

(Nava intently listently)

Balto: For my Jenna, Aleu, and especially Kodi. 

Nava: (smiling) your mother feared letting you go, as well. She always found a way to look up.

Balto: Whenever I look up…. It just reminds me of how far down I am.

(Balto goes back inside the boat.) 

(Kodi goes into town. Walks the street in the snow. Abruptly walks into another wolf.

Kodi: (happy) Hey, you….

Wolf: (astonished and speechless) Kodi?

Kodi: (smile fades a little) Who are you?

Wolf: …. Kodi, it’s me.

Kodi: …. Aleu?

Jenna steps by Boris’s door step. 


Jenna: (whispers) Boris? (louder) Boris?


Boris: What? Who’s there?


Jenna: Boris, uh…. this is Jenna!


Boris: (happily) What? Jenna? Aya! One moment. 


(there’s a crashing noise from inside)


(doors open)


Boris: (opens arms wide) Jenna? My lovely, you look even prettier than the moon. Come 


in! Please. Make yourself comfy!


(Jenna enters and Boris closes door)


Boris: (Mumbles) prettier than the moon, what a stupid thing to say. (Calling) Stella! We 

have guest it’s Jenna.


 

Stella: (from upstairs) Oh, it’s Jenna there. I’ll be down in a bit.


Jenna: (Sitting and looking around) I hope I’m not interrupting anything….


Boris: Nonsense. It is always good to see a friendly face. We just made a fresh pot of "Goose Juice" (chuckles)


Jenna: Wow you have a very beautiful home.


Boris: Ah (modest) we make do. Stella just finished re-furnishing. Between me and you 

don’t mention anything about the shelf. Duck tape….


Stella: (Comes downstairs) Jenna, so good to see you. Would you like goose juice?


Jenna: Uh, no thank you….


(rumbling from upstairs)


Boris: Boys….! 


Jenna: Boys?


Boris: Fooey…. Muk and Luk. (hand on head) They break everything from end table to 

my neck! We were the only goose on block with working television….


Stella: (kisses Boris) Boys will be boys.


Boris: No matter…. What can we do for you?


Jenna: Well…. Balto and I are together now….


Boris: (pretending) Really? That’s fantastic!


Jenna: (Laughing) Come on Boris, were you really out of the loop on this one?


Boris: (Confessing) Okay. Caught me with my feathers off. It’s just the thought of you 

two together is so warming and ….


Stella: (Lively) Spiritual!


(Boris chuckles)


Stella: (rushes over to Jenna) It reminds me of the holidays! The love, snowflakes, as if a beautiful romantic tale.


(Jenna smiles) 


Stella: You complete Balto so well. He’s always so messy without you, and he cleans up so well when you’re around. His coat sheds heavily I some times have to clean streets he’s so messy….


Boris: Stella! Why don’t you get Jenna some "goose juice".


Stella: Yes. (dances off into other rooms)


Boris: (chuckles) What would I do without her? You were saying.


Jenna: Well…. I’m not sure it was a good idea, he seems a little, idle yesterday evening. I 

hope I’m not hurting him about Eli.


Boris: (reminiscing) Eli…. Such youth and purity. He reminded me of Balto, when I first saw him as a pup…. Just like him.


Jenna: (Sniffles) Eli.


Boris: Oh my. (Comforts Jenna with wings) I shouldn’t have brought it up. I’m sorry. (to himself) I always do that! ‘Hey Boris don’t look at the sun’ ‘hey fellas ever seen a solar eclipse….’


Jenna: No. It’s okay. I just don’t want him to suffer it. He blamed himself so much and we spoke to each other less and then…. He didn’t know he was just sick and so small! I never told him how happy I was to be with him and he…. We…. away….just stop running! And Kodi….!(Crying) 


Boris: (hugs Jenna) Jenna, Jenna. Okay. It’s okay. Let it out. Let it all out.


(Jenna recovers and sniffs a little)


Boris: Jenna, look at Uncle Boris’s.


(Jenna opens your eyes)


Boris: Balto wants to be with you very much. He misses you and he needs you now more 

than ever.


Jenna: Did he tell you?


Boris: Well…. (bluntly) No…. Jenna, Balto is like my very own son.


Jenna: You don’t have kids….


Boris: I know! (calms down) Jenna, I know Balto very well. He needs you and when he pushes away, all you have to do is pull him closer to you. See he has thick skull, but a bigger heart.


Jenna: (laughs tears away) I guess your right. (gives Boris a kiss) Thank you, Uncle Boris.


Boris: Ah, (modest) no biggie. That’s what I’m here for.


Jenna: (thinks for a moment) Boris the other night I had this…. dream.


Boris: (clueless) What kind of dream?

(Dark alley. Niju sitting by fire. Celtic walking back and fourth in front of a line of the three other wolves.)


Celtic: Niju, we need to keep our clan live by any means necessary! Nome lives the good life, and for what? Their town hero is part of us! The wolf belongs with us, suffering, struggling, desperately surviving! We suffered the great life, and now…. Prepare to swallow a taste of our reward. We have found our new home! NOME!

(the wolves laugh and cheer. Celtic traditionally steps to the side as Niju walks forward.) 

Niju: We have found our new home. We will take what we need, but only what we need. We will harm no one who is innocent. We will co-exist and we will stand strong.

(Celtic opens eye’s)


Celtic: But should someone step in the way, WHAT WILL WE DO TO THEM?


(The wolves violently chant and cheer. Niju obviously does not agree. Suddenly a cracked bone rolls out of nowhere. The crowd goes silent. Niju squints to see an image in the darkness.)


Voice: Such anger, hatred, greed.


Niju: (whispers) Exile?

(the image steps out of the darkness. It is none other than Steele)


Steele: It’s a small, small, world. And from the sound of it, you’re not too happy to see me. (casually approaches Niju.)

(wolves snarls)


Steele: Sorry am I interrupting anything?


Celtic: No, you’re just in time for your death.


Steele: (Phony smiles) Save it for the "soaps" 


(Niju’s eye twitches.)


Steele: (joking about Celtic) Tough crowd.


Niju: What are you doing here?


Steele: I believe the last time we met we had an, (circling paw for word) "altercation" and harsh words were exchanged. (smart talking) I was just wondering if we could clear the air. You know for old times sake. (phony smile)


Niju: (Calmly. Orders the clan) Kill him. 


(the clan begins to approach him)


Steele: Wait! 


(the clan pauses)


Steele: Pardon me for my "un-appreciated" humor. I actually came here for a good reason. An offer actually. You see I’m very good friends with Balto….

Celtic: Liar!

Steele: You’re right. I came back for my long lost love. Jenna, and my respect.

Niju: For….

Steele: I’ll lead you to the south of Alaska. And if I may say so myself, the weather is beautiful.

Niju: No deal!


(The crowd rants Steele)


Celtic: Wait! Let’s think about this rational deal! Why rush into rejecting this bystander. 

Give us one moment Steele.

Steele: Take your time.

Niju and Celtic steeps out of the crowd.

Niju: What are you thinking?

Celtic: Steele is bound to meet with Balto and Jenna eventually. All we have to do is to follow him at night and see where he goes. And then when we’re satisfied and he least expects it (laughs) you’ll be able to, "bury the hatchet" forever.

Niju: I don’t think I ….

Celtic: Hey…. He’s hurt so many lives, and you were willing to do it before.


(Niju and Celtic goes back over to the crowd)


Niju: We accept your offer.


(Steele smiles.)

Chapter 4 

(Kodi and Aleu are walking in the snow far from town)


Kodi: I’ve heard that you looked like dad. 

Alue: That’s because I’m more wolf than you.

Kodi: Whatever….

Aleu: (teasing) It’s true. You get moms pretty eyes and I get (intakes breath) papas strength and howl.

Kodi: (taunting) You know, at least I got to be on the sled team. 

Aleu: (laughing) I’ve been fighting bears and wolves and you’ve been (laughing) In the snow pulling ol’ Timmy around his backyard.


(Kodi gives her a confused then depressed look)


Aleu: (rolls her eyes) What’s wrong?

Kodi: It’s just I always knew there was more to my heritage. Now that I found out, I feel like I wasted my whole life.

Aleu: Y’know I was pretty shocked when I first found out that I’m part-wolf. But I was just meant to be a wolf and you were meant to be a. (digusted) Dog. Some grand design thingy.

Kodi: (smies a little) The Grand Design. You know when mom and dad had split up….

Aleu: What?! 

Kodi: (regrettful) You don’t know….

Aleu: What do you mean split up.

Kodi: It’s complicated….

Alue: Papa and mom split up? Why?

Kodi: Well, I don’t know but…. see after the first six weeks.

Aleu: Six weeks?!

Kodi: Look I don’t know! I just heard something about an Eli. They never bothered to tell me.

Aleu: How could you not know? You’ve been here your whole life. I was out leading a pack. I didn’t expect every thing to change so fast for you.

Kodi: (mumbling) Yeah Well I wonder who’s to blame for that.

Aleu: (offended and sickly spoken) What did you say? 

Kodi: (Regretting a little) Well, why are you back here now! You go off and leave the family for the rest of your life? Now you come back? When everything has already fallen apart! Well you know what, maybe you shouldn’t have even came back, not now! (Turns back) You had all the time in the world. Why didn’t you even come back to say hello?

Aleu: (lip quivers) Well you know what? That is what I came back for! BUT MAYBE I SHOULDN’T HAVE!


(turns around and takes off. She makes it only A few hundred feet and stops and sits down. Kodi closes his eye’s not looking back at her. He fight’s the temptation to leave her. He jogs back to her and sits beside her.)


Kodi: You are a slow runner….

Aleu: (bubbled voice) Shut up Kodi.

Kodi: I didn’t mean it. I just…. I feel like, I was the reason everything fell apart.

Aleu: (sniff) You were…. If you hadn’t turned out so ugly….

Kodi: (smiles) Okay were even. 

(Kodi sits down next to her) 

Kodi: What ever did happen to your pack.

Aleu: (recovers) I had just said my goodbye to papa and we just made it to land. We struggled and pulled through the storm day and night. 


Story

Alue: The storm cleared up.


(There’s a pack of wolves ahead Aleu leads pack to them. The pack turned out to be the three wolves and Celtic. They fought Aleu’s pack. Celtic charges at Aleu. 


Wolf: Aleu look out!


(Aleu ducks out of the way. The fight ends as the wolves retreat.)


Celtic: I’ll se you again! "Aleu".

Wolf pack together in cave


Aleu: I fear for my family. They know who I am. What should I do?

Wolf: Steps forward we will lead you home. Your family is important? I fear they might come after them.

Aleu: Thank you.


 

Aleu: They will wait for me as long as I need. I told them I may never return. I think they have came.

Kodi: Well that Niju guy nearly had a run at us so….

Aleu: Niju!

Kodi: Family friend….

Aleu: He must have teamed up with them and led them here. He always wanted to be a leader. Steele warned me about this….

Kodi: STEELE? He was dad’s ENEMY he tried to kill him. Word is they’re working together. 

Aleu: I don’t like this.

Kodi: What? 

Aleu: Steele is back in town.

Kodi: …. Let’s go!


(get up and head back to town)

(Night time in alley)


Nikki: I love being the "town watch" at night. 

Kaltag: The benefits they’re the best. The most gratifying, the most complimenting, the most satisfying, the most generous….

Star: They’re well worth the wait!


(Kaltag raises fist to hit star then he stops they all look forward and their jaws drop.)


Voice: Evening watchmen…..

Nikki: You gotta be kindn’ me!


(Steele comes out of the shadows)


Steele: (smiling) We, need to have a little chat.

Jenna: Goes over to Balto’s boat and looks inside the window.

Boris: Boy you need to redecorate, like I did….

Balto: (lies down on old couch under blanket). Yeah, yeah. Boris.


(Boris winks at Jenna. Jenna nods) 


Boris: (to Balto) I will be in the kitchen.


(Jenna takes a deep breathe and goes in her room. She realizes how messy it is Balto rolls 

ever and sees her. He jumps. )


Balto: Jenna!

Jenna: (smiles) Hey.

Balto: (Looks around) I was just. (lost in words) redecorating.

Jenna: I see.

Balto: It’s cold in here. (tosses blanket over her) you should be back at home.

Jenna: Well actually I was kinda planning on staying here tonight.

Balto: Okay. 


(Awkward moment) 


Balto: Food! Hey Boris! Boris, could you bring in more of that goose juice? (to Jenna) It’s delicious.

Jenna: Balto….


(Balto hops over to the window seal)


Jenna: Balto….

Balto: I’ll just shut these windows here. (reaches up)

Jenna: It’s okay.


(Balto stops)


Jenna: Everything is okay. You don’t have to do this anymore.

Balto: How can it be okay? How can it ever be okay? If only I could go back and do something different and Eli…. 

Jenna: There’s nothing you can do. There was never anything you could’ve done. 

Balto: Look at me! Look at how I’m living! Everything is falling apart! Us, our family, the book-case…. 

Jenna: That bookcase was always crooked.

Balto: I messed up. 

Jenna: I don’t care. No one cares, not unless you give them a reason to.


(Balto walks over to the couch and lays by Jenna)


Balto: I don’t….

Jenna: One day at a time.


(Balto fall asleep. Boris walks in the room with a bowl. He brings it over to Jenna, who tries a little.)


Jenna: (Smiles) Juicy….

Boris: (proudly folds arms) What did I tell ya?

Chapter 5

(Kodi and Aleu are on their way to the Balto’s boat.)


Kodi: Look there it is!

Aleu: I can’t wait. 


(Suddenly two wolves stop right in front of their paths. Kodi and Aleu come to a halt. The two wolves are Celtic and Niju)


Niju: Aleu?

Kodi: Niju!

Celtic: You!


(the snow starts falling. Celtic leaps at Aleu. Kodi tackles him in mid air and they brawl. Kodi is slapped across the ground.) 


Aleu: Don’t hit my brother!

Niju: Stop!


Suddenly the other three wolves dart at them and then Nikki Kaltag and Star lift them in the air with a few head butts. Celtic is about to wail Kodi on the ground then he’s crashed to the side by none other than Steele.


Celtic: (Gets up) Traitor! 

Steele: No, champion.


(the fued pits Kodi Aleu Nikki Kaltag and Star on one side and the others on the other side.)


Celtic: Okay then, "Champion" (steps in the center of the area) let’s go! I was gonna leave you to Niju, but I’d rather have the pleasure of killing you myself!

Niju: Celtic, Stop this!

Steele: Go home Celtic! (warning) This can only end in a very bad way.

Kodi: Stop!

Celtic: (looks over to Aleu) When I’m done with him, "dady’ll" end up the very same way.


(Steele snatched Celtic by the back and slings him to the ground.)


Steele: Let’s go! (pacing back and fourth on the snow)

Celtic: (get’s up) Well. I can respect you for that. 


(Suddenly the two brawls with each other rolling on the ground. Everyone is watching yelling. One side to stop and the other side win. Balto stops in his tracks right beside the crowd. He looks and see’s Aleu)


Balto: (stunned) Aleu? 

Aleu: Papa! The tree!


Balto looks and see’s there’s a tree with several large icicles hanging and Celtic and Steele are heading towards it. 


Balto: Steele? No! 


(balto darts out towards them. Celtic pushes Steele right under the tree. Steele on his back looks up and see’s the trees and notices he’s on ice.)


Steele: Celtic! Stop! 

Celtic: (Smiles) No.

Balto leaps

Celtic: Not when I’m this close.


(Celtic leaps at Steele with claws extended fully. Balto Rams into Steele knocking him out the way. Celtic unable to stop slams into the tree and lands on the ground. Small icicles hit him at first then he looks up completely petrified everyone stops and motionless. As if time slows down, ten large icicles thrust into the ground standing straight up and lodged. Celtic gives Niju a calm look. The ground shatters flipping parts of the ice over Celtic and putting him completely underwater. Balto leaps into the freezing cold water trying to find him. Everyone huddles around the cracked water.)

(After a few minutes Balto rises to the surface alone and sad. His eyes red. Steele helps him out of the water. Balto refuses help from everyone that try to save him. Jenna comes running along with Boris and Stella to the scene.) 


Boris: Balto! Balto!

(Boris rushes over to Balto)


Boris: Balto my boy! Are you….

Balto: Leave me alone Boris.

Boris: Not a big fan of water I see.

Jenna: (Sees Kodi.) Thank heavens Kodi.


(Jenna turns to see Aleu)


Jenna: (tears) Aleu. (Jenna hugs her) 


(They look for Balto, Jenna spots him)

(Balto is lost in his own world. Nava walks by.)


Steele: Balto, follow me.


(Balto gets up as everyone is talking.)


Niju: Cel…. Nnn…. ice….no….no! Celtic! My blood!


(Balto looks back seeing The others trying to keep Niju from jumping in the water)

(Balto starts walking and looking. He sees Jenna Stairing at him concerned. Balto turns away nothing.)

Chapter 6 

(Balto followed Steele all the way back to the boat. Not saying a word. Finally they go inside. Balto sits down by the couch. Steele throws a blanket over him.)


Steele: (sarcastic) Nice house wolf dog. 


(Balto whispers something.)


Steele: What?


Balto: I could’ve saved him.


Steele: (inconsiderately) Yeah, sure. (heads to the door)


(Steele exits)


(Balto closes his eyes. Nava steps out of the shadow)


Balto: I couldn’t have saved him, could I?


Nava: Celtic couldn’t have saved himself. He was doomed in his own hatred.

Nava: Then go to her. Go to your family. A storm is coming. (Nava leaves boat)

(The wind is blowing hard. Snow flying everywhere.) 

(balto’s boat)


Balto: You two got along the best.

Aleu: Yeah well Kodi and I were younger. 

Balto: You both turned out great. It’s just, you went in different directions.

Aleu: Papa, why did you and mom break up.

Balto: Aleu….

Aleu: Does it have something to do with Eli?

Balto: Do you even know who Eli is?

Aleu: I missed so much, and now that I’m back everything seems so…. Different.

Balto: (Smiles) You and I know more than anyone that different isn’t always so bad?

Aleu: Including this.

Balto: (Sits) Aleu sits down.


(Aleu excitedly sits down)


Balto: This is the first time I’ve told anyone this story. (takes a breath) About a year after you left and a month after when Kodi was born….

Balto: Jenna and I were worried how long Eli would stay small. Winter came again….


(Alue’s smile fade)

Balto: Jenna went to find herbs for Eli. I tried to keep him warm but this was the only place I could keep him at all….

Balto: I wrapped him in a blanket and Jenna tried to warm as well….

(Aleu’s eye’s water)


Balto: Your brother Eli never woke up. I felt guilty and Jenna held Kodi sorta away from me for a while.(chuckles then spirit fades) Then, I stopped talking to Jenna. I thought she hated me. She didn’t! She just didn’t want anything to happen to her baby. And didn’t want to be around if I got hurt. I ended up hurting everyone else.


Aleu: I never got hurt. You never let anything happen to me. 


Balto: (smiles) I’m just glad to see you.


(door bursts open full of wind and snow. The three wolves)


Aleu: Papa


(Balto stands in front of her)


Wolf1: Hello murderer


(They all enter and one slams the door shut)


Balto: Leave Now!

Wolf2: Don’t worry we won’t damage your pretty home!(laughs)

Wolf1: I see your precious little daughter is around. I’m surprised Steele hasn’t taken her.

Balto: What?


Wolf3: Shut up half-blood! Niju has a message for you we can’t tell you it be we can give 

show you it.(laughs)


(The other two wolves knocks over tables and trashes the boat worse than it already was.


Aleu: Papa

Balto: Just don’t hurt my daughter.

Wolf1: Niju has just one thing in mind, revenge on Steele. 

Wolf2: So as long as you stay inside and keep close to you family, you just might survive the winter.

Wolf3: It’s really none of your business….

Balto: It became my business when you stepped in my town, and threatened my children. So I have a message for Niju…. He’s in the wrong town….


(Wolf3 tackles Balto an easily pins Balto to the floor.)


Wolf1: You might wanna watch what you say, or you’ll be having a conversation with 

your son Eli real soon….


Aleu: Shut up! 


(Wolf1 Snaps jaws at Aleu.)


Wolf2 starts choking the life out of Balto

Wolf3: Real wolf blood Papa has. (laughs)

Aleu: (crying) Please leave my papa alone!

Wolf1: (thinks for a moment) Let him go.


(Wolf3 unsatisfied lets Balto up. Balto gasps for air still lying on the floor. Aleu rushes to him.)


Wolf1: Don’t try to save Steele. Think about your self. It’s all you can do right. (laughs)


(the wolves exit laughing)


Aleu: Papa are you okay. 

Balto: Stay with your mother and Kodi.

Aleu: But pappa….

Jenna: They said they’d be back by now.

Boris: They’re alright.

Kodi: It’s freezing cold out….


(Boris shoves them behind a fence)


Boris: (puts wings to his lips) Shhhhhhhhh.


(the three wolves are walking down the street)


Kodi: I don’t like this.

Boris: Balto boy, where are you?


Aleu sneeks inside the fence. 


Aleu: Mom!

Jenna: Aleu! (embraces her) What’s going on?


(Balto darts through the heavy wind and he sees Nikki Kaltag and Star. And follows them into the Junk yard)


Balto: Thank god I need your….


(Steele is standing on a giant pile of trash.)


Balto: Not again.

Steele: I’m back.

Balto: Steele now is not the time.

Steele: If I’m not mistaken, the timing could not be better.

Balto: What, now?

Steele: If I might recall we are still not even!

Balto: Now is really not the time to….

Steele: Hear that? Boys to the lake!


(Steele and the gang takes off. Balto hears the Wolves come and he takes off. He heads to Aleu Kodi Jenna Boris Stella Boris.)


Balto: Everyone go inside. Stay inside no matter what! (darts off)

Kodi: What do we do?


(Alue takes off in Bato’s Direction)


Jenna: Aleu….

Kodi: Chases after her.

Jenna: Kodi…. (chases after them)

Boris: No way! That is it! Balto, you are on your own! I am done saving your stubborn thick headed butt, and your likewise children! I am to old! (who am I kidding Balto is like my very own son. Stella (holds hands) Forgive me. 

Stella: I am proud of you, go make me happy. (kisses him)


(Boris flies off)


Stella: And Bring home milk this time!

Chapter 8

(The storm becomes violent and harsh.

Steele and his gang arrives at the lake) 


Steele: This is it. We’ll defend our town.

Nikki Kaltag Star: Yeah!

Steele: Even if we have to die!


Nikki Kaltag and Star: Uh, yeah. Sure.


(Balto arrives at the scene)


Balto: Steele!

Nikki: (to kaltag) Here comes the party pooper.

Steele: Stay out of this wolf dog! I’ve got beef with someone.

Balto: If your fighting then I’m fighting.

Nikki: You can take my place….

Steele: We don’t need, your, help.

Balto: What will it take for you to finally let you trust someone.

Steele: (thinks) This isn’t your fight.

Balto: Yes it is.


(Steele turns around as Niju and his three henchmen stand by him.)


Niju: I guess you do have brass. Picked the lake to fight on.

Steele: I guess you have brass as well. I expected you to run away with your tail beneath your legs.

Niju: You brought reinforcements I see.

Steele: (looks back) He’s not in this. 


Niju sends out wolf1 in the center. 


Steele: Any takers.

Kaltag: Veils his claws leave the big one to me.


(Kaltag steps out he and wolf 1 circle up)


(The two leaps at each other. They are both pushing against each other. Both sides chanting and yelling.)


Nikki: That’s it!

Nikki jumps in and head-buts the wolf. The wolf jumps and tags wolf 2’s paw. He charges at them. Nikki and Kaltag double clothesline him. Star elbow drops on the wolf. Niju Becomes agitated. Nikki flips wolf 3 in the air. Kaltag DDT’s wolf 1. Star hits wolf2 with a chair. Niju blows steem out his ears. Nikki, Kaltag, and Star does a six man Supplex to the three wolves and they go through the Ice. The three dogs cheer. 

Niju: Enough!


(every one pauses.)


Niju: No more games! Steele! You murderer! You’ll die on the very ground in which you kill.


(Niju Charges at Steele Balto intercepts and knocks Niju out the way. Steele Shoves 

Balto to the Ice and charges at Niju. Balto charges after them both.

Jenna Kodi Aleu and Boris arrives at the scene. The wolves crawl out of the water.

Steele and Niju swats viciously at each other. Balto leeps in and knocks them both down. Jenna sees the Ice cracking.)


Jenna: Balto…. (she charges after them)


(Kodi and Aleu follows.)


Niju picks Balto up and slams him on the Ice. Steele looks down and sees the Ice crack.

Steele: Balto!

Balto: Looks down! (sees Ice cracking)


(Niju steps and crushes a piece of Ice suddenly cracks slither all around them. They all remain perfectly still. Balto sees Jenna out the corner of her as she tries to stop motion.)


Balto: Jenna?

Jenna: Balto? (holds still)


(balto slowly steps towards her. Niju tucks out his claws. And looks at Balto.)


Jenna: Balto?

Balto: Don’t move. I’m almost there.


(Niju Slowly comes after Balto. Jenna walks slowly towards Jenna)


Steele: Heads up!


(Balto turns around and sees Niju in the air headed for him. Jenna Jumps between and the collision causes them to break through the Ice. Balto Slips, cracks his head on the corner of the Ice and slides into the water. Steele dives in and swims towards Jenna. Niju sees and pursuits them but turns and sees Kodi pulling Balto out of the water. Niju charges at them. Kodi pulls balto Halfway on the surface. When Niju is with in arms reach. Kodi tries desperately to pull him but struggles clumsily. Then suddenly Niju pauses. His paw is frozen Numb, he can’t pull himself out of the water and begins to sink and vanishes in the dark water. Kodi more relaxed pulls Balto out of the surface.)


Kodi: Dad!

Aleu: Papa?


(Jenna rushes and cradles Balto, trying to keep him warm and crying as she did with Eli.)


Jenna: I forgive you. I love you. Just wake up! Please. Don’t do this…. He was sick!


(Everyone looks away. Even Steele closes his eyes. Jenna holds tight for moments. The storm has faded. Light snowflakes fall. Jenna looks up as her tears drip to the ground.)

Jenna holds Balto’s stiff body close. Then feels a vibration in her shoulder. Jenna lifts up and looks. Balto’s lip quivers a little and warm saliva drips on her arm.)


Jenna: Balto?


(Balto starts moving a little)


Jenna: Balto!


(Boris Kodi and Aleu all huddles around happily hugging him. 


Boris: I always say only thing keep you alive is your hard head!


(In a distance Steele, Nikki, Kaltag, and Scar, watches)


Nikki: Well Steele you still got us.

Kaltag: That’s right.

Star: Yeah us.

Steele: Well. You guys are the greatest family I could ever have.


Nikki Kaltag Star: Awe.

Steele: How good it would’ve been?

Nikki: Jenna as your wife?

Steele: I was thinking more Aleu as my daughter. I see where she get’s her tenacity. 

Star: Her father?

Steele: No…. it’s in our blood. (winks at them)

Nikki: Wolf blood?

Kaltag: Wait? What?


(Steele smiles and walks away. They follow him confused.)
