Stillness…

It is not the night which causes this

Nor the light of day

It is something that is natural…and something that it isn’t

It is a thing my kind sense when danger is near

It is stillness…

So still

And so frightening

It blinds our senses, even our eyes at times

We can not sense predator or prey

We only feel our own fear

When stillness comes upon one of my kinsmen

They are exposed and yet protected

Though we can not sense friend or foe or prey

At the last second, a single movement, a single breath, a single twitch

Can give a glimmer of life and survival

One cannot foretell the future

Nor see when danger is upon them

Magic and cunning is useless when stillness falls

Only one whose nature, instincts, and inner spirit can ever overcome stillness

I promise thy…none have accomplished such a goal, not even my people, the wolves…
