Chapter 1:

Steele was all alone in the boiler room, his fans left him, Balto the half-breed became a famous head sled dog and Steele was nothing more then a stray. A couple of years passed by. The rouge Steele was walking around the little town of Nome and got caught by a person,"Walking around town without a human, Steele?"

"My human will be here in a minute." The black malamute lied. Of course knowing that humans can't understand a word of the dog languge, he led Steele to a small pound. The food there wasn't like the food at home. When he was at home, he had crunchy dog food and a bone now and then, even a sasuge. But at the pound, it was just sloppy food and a bowl of water.

"Hey, Steele!" His ears perked up. He looked at the back wall whitch was just a clear wall to see the outside world. It was Star.

"Oh no. Please tell me he's not going to save me."

"I'm here to save you!" He dug the earth to make a tunnel from the outside world to the inside of the pound. What seems like an eternity for Steele, the tunnel was finally done and he was soon outside. They walked to the boiler room to see all the dogs talking and laughing. Steele had a little smile.

"What do you say what do you know?"

"Hey do know what do you say?" Star changed his words.

"Look at them, Star."

"Maybe we should come back and enter again." They laughed and saw one of their friends.

"Steele," said Kaltag,"is that you? We all heared you were in the pound."

"No, I'm not in some pound! Right, Star?" He snapped and chewed on a bone.

"Yeah, that's right," agreed Star,"I got him out."

"Everythings so splendind, so magnificent, so impressive..." Nikki thought of words to describe something.

"Everythings going great with Balto around." Star interuppted him. His prize: a bonk on the head. Kaltag looked at the chewed up bone.

"Can you spare a couple of bones for old times sake?"

"Why settle for the sake when you can have the whole bake?" He reached inside a paper bag and threw large bones for all the dogs.

"I'm proud of you, buddy!" Complimented Star.

"You can't keep a good dog down!"

"Oh no you can't!" agreed Star.

"Where this pup is going, is up!" Steele climbed to the top of a pile of boxes and overlooked all the dogs in the ally. Everyone was laughing, howling, talking and having fun. Steele thought in his head:

Move over wolf-dog. The leader of the pack is back in town.

He was walking someplace and found Balto,"Hello, lobo."

"Name's Balto. I thought you were in the pound. That's what all the dogs say you are."

"Listen, I was the leader of this whole pack. But you are. So you have to back down."

"I'm not the leader I just lead the sled team."

"Meet me tommorrow at the old mountain in the outskirts of town." Balto had a confused look on his then turned around to go home. Steele walked inside an alley to wait for tommorrow.

Chapter 2

The next day, Balto was sitting on a mountain side waiting for Steele,"Why do you want me me to be up here?"

"Because, wolf-dog, we both can't be leaders of this sled dog pack."

"I told you, I'm nothing more then the leader of the sled team." Steele didn't listen. He just lunged at balto and began to fight. Just after a few minutes, Balto flipped Steele over. Sending him down the mountainside to an ocean below. Steele was long gone. Balto's mouth dropped, went down to see if Steele was still there. He wasn't. The wolf-dog lowered his ears and decided to walk home.

Meanwhile for Steele, he found himself not in the ocean but in a cloudy tunnel. He passed through a gate and landed on something soft as a cloud. In fact it was! His eyes widened. He looked around for the mountain or at least Balto. It was no use,"Where am I?"

"You're now at the pearly gates and about to wait for judgement." A light purple husky with a piece of yellow hair covered her left eye.

"Did you say judgement?"

"Not to worry Steele. You'll go to heaven. All Dogs go to heaven. Because did you know unlike humans, dogs naturally sweet, loyal and kind?"

"Thank heavens that's true."

"Follow me. You're in a place with no more rat race."

"Ok. at least it's a place with no more sled dog races."

"Order and calm instead."

"I can handel that."

"Let me welcome you," she spun on a cloud behind a desk,"to being dead." She took out a large book and looked through it.

"What?! You mean I'm-"

"Stone cold and hard like a rock I'm afraid. But let me keep looking here."

"I've been murdered."

"I'm having some troubles of finding loyalty. It says that you: Cheat, lie and steal."

"He killed me. I don't wanna die," She took out his paw, put it in ink and stamped it in the book,"You got the wrong guy. I was in a fight with a dirty rat actully this rat was a dog. Yet he's more like a wolf. He's a wolf-dog. May I talk to the Superior? Tell me this is all a dream!" She put on a pair of wings and a little halo on him.

"You'll have a splendind time here."

"You've got a wrong husky."

"Laughing and singing all day."

"It's not my time yet. Send me back to Nome, Alaska!" He tore off his wings and threw away the halo.

"Yes it is. We know everything."

"Dead at the prime of my life. Balto, when I get my paws on him-" he looked around him,"hey, is this the watch department?"

"Kind of," she took a collar that looked like his golden collar with a watch and had the name Steele on it,"this watch is your life," she opened up the watch,"it stopped."

"Can you wind it up?"

"Send you back? Of course not." He looked through the book of his life.

"These people know everything. So there are no surprises around here?"

"No." They both sat on a cloud close to each other.

"Listen, do you wanna dance? If I let's say be in a movie or whatever in the near future you'll tell me?"

"We know how the movie and stuff all work out."

"You've got rythem. Unusual for a husky such as yourself."

"Thanks for the compliment."

"So planned, so ordered, I need a suprise once in a while," he looked at his collar watch float behind the huskey angel,"do you know what I need?"

"What?" Steele grabbed the coller watch.

"Ever heared of Brazil, their throb and my thrill? Never been there, but someday I will. They have advenure and danger, but there's love in me for a stanger. May I be surprised?"

"You'll have plenty of surprises in heaven." She grabbed the watch. He took off his golden coller and put in on her to make her come closer.

"Today there's sun, they said there be snow. All said and done, it's fun not to know. What keeps my heart humming, might be guessing what's coming."

"So you want to be surprised." She put the golden coller down. They were soon flying across the night sky.

"I didn't see to catch your name." He had the coller watch behind him.

"Adele."

"Tell me, Adele. Do you like surprises? Because I got one for you."

"Yes and thank you. When will I see it?" He wound up the coller watch.

"Wait and you'll see."

"Steele, what's that behind you?"

"For once will you and I-"

"Don't you even think about it!"

"Be surprised?!" He fell back to Earth.

"Steele!" He traveled down the tunnel and into the river. He got out, rinsed himself dry and heared Adele's voice:You can't ever come back.

He looked to see his watch open and simply closed it. He sneered at the starry sky before going back into town.

Chapter 3

Steele forgot where Nikki and Kalatag lived. But he knew about Star. He went through the doggy-door to get inside and the other doggy-door to see Star sleeping in a kennel in the backyard,"Star, wake up." He did and all Steele got was a scream.

"Get away to me!" He untied the rope connected to his coller and kennel then ran for his life. But Steele caught him

"What wrong with you, little twerp?"

"Everyone said that you were dead."

"Not my time yet."

"Dogs really miss you."

"I know."

"I bet your master must be really worried."

"I know, let it out."

"If you're here, that means you're a-" He screamed at the top of his lungs, Steele cupped his mouth.

"No you idiot. I'm not dead. When I take my paw away, I want you to be quiet." He let go and he laid on the snow covered ground.

"I'm the brains of the pack. But when that wolf-dog came about, it was all over. I was under."

"That's right. We're going to go under. Way under."

"No. I don't want to go under business or that type of under. I think we tried sharing the fame, but he dosen't wanna share."

"No, Steele. You didn't want to share. We could take your fame else where. How about the Himalayas?"

"I hate that place. Too cold." Steele put his head over his paws.

"No, there's a little country called Tibet. Get it? To bet?" He rolled his eyes and tossed around a small rubber ball near him.

"Wait, Balto dosen't know I'm alive."

"Neither does the sled team." He had an evil smirk and tossed the ball up and down.

"You know, Star, there are two types of dogs around here. Ones that take revenge and one who are happy go lucky. Balto's one of the happy ones. But I'm a revenger. I'll make him suffer...slow. Soon, I will be top dog again."

"Steele, I always hear a monster. Maybe that will give you your little dream."

"You hear a monster? Where?"

"At the other side of town. It sounds creepy. It's like a moaning sound." Steele had another one of his smiles and threw the ball.

"This gives me an oh so good idea." He rubbed his paws together. We're going to visit a certin something or someone.

The next morning, the two dogs walked at the other side of town and heared a moaning sound.

"Hear that?" Their ears perked up. Steele saw nothing more then a moaning kid walking from an ally.

"Star, see this."

"I don't wanna see it."

"Look!" Star did.

"It's a kid."

"More specific."

"I can't get any specific."

"Let's say, girl, orphan, moaning from hunger." He padded towards her.

"Where are you going?"

"I'm uh, going to help her."

"Do what?"

"Take Balto I mean, find parents, find food and tender loving care." He kept on walking.

"But she's a human. She can't understand us dogs."

"Watch and learn."

"I don't know about this."

"Hey, kid."

"Hi Mr. Dog." She pat him on the head.

"What's your name, little girl?"

"Marcia." It's a miricle. She could understand the animal languge.

"My name is Steele. This panicy looking idiot is named Star. Say hello Star."

"Hi, Marcia."

"Hello Star."

"Wait here, kid. We'll be right back." He dragged Star in the ally where Marcia came out.

"Steele, I don't know about this." He cupped Star's mouth.

"Don't worry about this. We're going back to the girl and talk to her," They walked to her,"tell me, kid. What's a person like you doing in no home?"

"I'm an orphan." Steele's ears perked up.

"Did you hear that. She's an orphan. Meaning she has no parents telling her what to do. Ok, kid. That settles it. Your staying with Star."

"Really? Thank you, Star."

"What? My humans aren't expecting any kids."

"Fine. Ok, Marcia, change of plans. You're going to stay with me."

"Really?" She jumped up and down.

"Yeah, three square meals a day, indoor plumbing and other importent stuff." She followed the dogs as they walked and talked. They finally reached an abandoned one story house. Marcia sat on the couch and took a little nap. The dogs were on the porch.

"Steele, what is she going to do with Balto?"

"She could talk to the betting guys dog to see whitch sled dog team will win and maybe you'll tell Balto it's cancelled or something."

"That's one stupid plan!"

"Shut up," he cupped his mouth,"do you want the kid to wake up?!"

"Sled dogs?" She smiled and opened the door.

"Now look what you did Star! yes, we're going to see some sled dogs tommorrow."

"Yes!" She ran back inside.

"Remember Star. Be here at 8:00."

"Got it." He walked home as Steele went in to see Marcia. He walked around a long pillow on the floor and slept.

"Steele, can I have a kiss good-night?" He gave her a short one.

"Go to sleep."

"This couch hurts me. I bet that pillow is soft." He groaned as they traded spaces.

"Please. Go to sleep." She was saying her little prayers.

"Please bless Star," he growled and stopped,"also bless Steele," his eyes widened and covered his face with his paws,"oh, Steele, will you find me parents?"

"I'll find you Atlantis: the lost empire, I'll find you El Dorado: Lost city of gold. I'll find you anything if you go to sleep!" she obeyed Steele as he just layed on his back on the lumpy old couch.

Chapter 4

The next day, everyone was in town,"Where are we going to find money to bet?" Questioned Star.

"Don't worry about it. We'll find a couple and then take their wallet when you and Marcia distract them."

"Want a number 10, the rabid dog?" He practiced his growl.

"No, they're all too nice for that. Do a number 6."

"Oh, the lame dog." He limped to a random couple.

"Star!" yelled Marcia.

"Is this your hurt dog?" said a blonde haired women.

"Yes. Let me look at your paw." Steele swiftley grabbed the womens husbands wallet from his back pocket.

"Come on!" Star ran off. They both saw Marcia talking to the women but Steele dragged her away.

"Steele, they could have been great parents." complained Marcia.

"Uh, we're saving half the money to buy you new clothes. No person wants to take in a raggedy-ann doll."

"Ok."

"But first, we have to go place a bet on the sled race." When they were there, they went to a brownish black husky.

"Hello, Mr. dog."

"Hi little girl."

"Do you know who will win the sled race?" He looked at the stats.

"Between Balto and Frosko's team. It's Balto." Steele took out a small wad of cash.

"Place the bet for Frosko to win." He said.

"It's you're funeral. Here's your ticket." When they sat one the sideline, Marcia tapped on Steele's shoulder.

"What?"

"Why did you waste the money on the race?"

"For this, we waste money to win more money if the team wins. Now, cheer for Frosko."

"Go Frosko!" Balto was in the lead, Steele put his head out of the sidelines and snapped at Balto's front paws. Making Balto go to last place and making Frosko win the race and the three earned a huge a huge amount of dollers.

The three were in the house counting money. Marcia sighed and looked at the floor,"What's wrong, kid?" Questioned Star.

"Steele said that you'll help me find parents." Steele grabbed a few dollers.

"Uh, thanks for reminding me, Marcia. Let's go." Marcia walked into a store and tried on a few new clothes. Steele and Star watched outside through a window and clapped and howled at her when she tried on the clothes. After shopping, the dogs took the extra money and made a little club at the backyard of the abandoned house. Star was chewing on dog treats as the rest were having some fun.

"Steele, this is the best club ever."

"Best of all, since this is a nightclub, Marcia would just sleep as the rest of us have the night of our life." He turned his head to find an angry Marcia.

"Steele, the kid."

"Kid, what's going on?"

"You said you'll help me find parents! You made a little club. It's not right. I'm out of here! See me next time when you save the money and use it wisley."

"Kid," Steele held her back,"thank you for showing me the light. Only the two of us will grab a couple of food and I'll show you a poor family," They walked into the boiler room, walked over a few boxes and found a silver female malamute with about 6 puppies listening to the radio. Steele unwrapped a sasuge link around his neck,"hey, anyone here order some sasuges?" The puppies looked around.

"Steele, sasuge!" They were all chewing on them.

"Hey, I would like to meet you a friend of mine: Marcia."

"Please to meet you all." They went back to eating. The silver malamute came to Steele.

"Hello, Steele."

"Hello Flo."

"Nice to see you. We don't see you much anymore."

"You know, with the race and importent stuff going on it's hard to schedule some visitations." He saw a puppy biting his back ankle.

"Steele, can I have more?"

"Uh," he threw a bag of dog treats,"eat those." He saw the puppies fighting over the treats.

"Steele, tell them you gave those to me!"

"Easy there, boney pups, it's only a treat bag," he took the bag and counted the flavor bones in it,"Over 30 bones in here. You'll all get some." He gave each pup a bone and saw Marcia huddled up by some boxes.

"Steele, I'm cold." They were in a warm boiler room and she's for some reason cold. He placed his furry paw on her forehead.

"You are kind of warm." He placed her on a pillow and made her sleep. Steele sighed and curled up next to her. For once in his doghood life, he cared about someone other then himself.

Chapter 5

Everyone was soon asleep. Steele had a nightmare. He was going through a rocky dark tunnel and landed in a barren place. Everywhere was brimestone. He looked forward and saw a huge bright red demon dog. He raised his huge paw and the ground collasped sending Steele there also.

He yelled and woke up. All the pups came around him to find out what's the matter,"It's all a dream." He looked at his coller watch and laid back down near Marcia.

Star was in the backyard and heared the backdoor open. He saw a human scream,"Stray dog!" Then chased him out of there by carrying a rolled-up newspaper. He ran to the boiler room.

"Steele!" The black and white husky jumped over the boxes.

"Star, Marcia's sick."

"We got bigger problems. Look," They walked up a staircase to see the house,"the house has people living in it now. The clubs no more."

"Blast," he walked down the stairs,"with the club gone, we got to start all over. We need the girl more then ever to get more money."

"That's it. That's the end. We gotta stop using the child," he flopped down on his back,"I say we get rid of the girl, move to a different town and maybe change our names."

"No. Stop thinking that way." He sighed.

"You're in love with the girl."

"No I'm not. She may be my friend but-"

"I thought I was your friend."

"I am your friend! You're right. We're just using the girl. After we get all the money we need, we'll drop her off at some orphanage! You like that?!"

"Sure. Oh, look." He turned around to see a very depressed child.

"You used me."

"Marcia. I'm s-"

"You're a bad dog!" She ran away crying. Steele sighed and rubbed his neck.

"This is all my fault. It's freezing, she's sick." He ran to find her. The next morning, he looked at a house window and saw Marcia eating in the dining room. She looked out.

"Steele."

"Yeah. You really scared me. You got parents?"

"Donny and and Ashely are really nice. They're out of town and will be here in a few hours."

"You don't need me."

"You could stay."

"I'll just dirty up the nice clean house." He backed away and walked off. She climbed through the window.

"Where are you going?" She coughed. Steele climbed through the window to grab her coat.

"I little walk. Maybe around the mountain side."

"Can I come to?"

"With your health? I guess if you want." Star padded along.

"I'm going to hang with you two today."

"That's good, Star," commented Marcia,"Steele and I are going to the mountain side."

"Mountain side," Star pulled Steele's coller to get him closer,"that place is full of wolf packs." Steele bonked him on the head.

"We delt with with that wolf-dog." When they walked around the mountain, they heared howling. Out in the bushes was a pack of wolves.

"Steele." Marcia quivered.

"Star, get Marcia to saftey."

"Well, look who came to dinner." Said a pure black wolf.

"Back off," He bared his pearly teeth. Another wolf took off Steele's coller watch, rolled into a river and the watch opened on the river floor. Steele coughed and saved Marcia and Star from the pack. Steele was looking for the watch,"Star, Marcia, where's the watch?" Marcia looked in the river.

"There, I see it." He dove in. But when he did, his watch was completley filled with water and the watch stopped ticking.

That night, Star lived with Marcia who was sound asleep. The sky was blood red. Hot smoke filled Marcia's room. Steele came out of it and laid on the foot of the bed,"Oh, Marcia. I'm sorry. I'm so very sorry." He heared an evil voice:Steele. He looked around to see everything so calm and blue.

"Steele, you can go home now." He saw a blue orb that has Adele's calm voice.

"You said I-"

"Steele, you gave your life for her and Star."

"Kind of. What will happen-"

"Say your good-byes." He came near the girl.

"Steele, is that you?"

"Yeah. How are you feeling?"

"All better. You?"

"I came to say good-bye."

"Where are you going?"

"On a little trip. I want you to do something. Take care of Star. I think he has a liking for you." She pet the sleeping dog.

"Don't worry. Will you ever come back?"

"Of course. Good-byes aren't forever." She pet his muzzle.

"Then, good-bye, Steele."

"Go back to sleep." she did as he said. He got off the bed and walked to the orb that turned to a staircase to heaven.

"Come home, Steele." When he got up there, he had this feeling that heaven wasn't half bad.
