Balto got ready to make the final push when he felt his body go flying. He scrambled up to his paws and saw Jenna helping Aleu back up.

  "Well, well," Balto chuckled. "I can get the whole job done."

  "Balto, what's wrong?" jenna asked. "We can fix you."

  "I like me," Balto hissed, advancing on his daughter and mate. "I like being me!"

  "You're nuts." Jenna shook her head.

  "Really?" Balto cocked his head as he approached. "I'm glad you noticed, "dear"."

  "Balto," Jenna growled. "Wake up! Smell the air and realize all that you have before will be gone!"

  "I have Steele," Balto told her. "He's my friend."

  "No," Aleu snarled. "He's using you, Papa!"

  "Never!" Balto lunged.

  "1, 2, 3!" Aleu leaped ot the side and Jenna leaped over her mate. However, Jenna tumbled over herself and ended up hurting her paw.

 "Run, Aleu!" she screamed. the plan had been to run after jumping over Balto but the plan was foiled. Aleu, however, had no idea what had happened to Jenna. Jenna wanted it to stay that way.

  Balto approached her, growling. "I'm going to let you live."

  "Balto," whispered Jenna.

  "I don't know why," he admitted. "It's a feeling in my gut."

  "I'm staying with you," Jenna said.

 "No!" balto snarled. "No! I don't love you anymore! Don't you get it? Go back to Steele!"

  Balto was himself! However, eh wasn't sure how long he would stay that way. He felt his eyes begin to water.

  "No," Jenna murmured. "I'll wait forever."

  "Don't you get it?" Balto hissed. "I don't love you!" He tok hi spaw and slammed it on her paw. It wouldn't be as bad as any other beating he could giver her.

 Jenna howled and bega to crawl away. Balto felt himself lose the little bit of himself that he had and he grinned and began to laugh.

 Jenna's eyes filled with tears, as she trudged away. maybe Balto was gone....

 Balto found a cave that night and despretly fought to keep from losing control again.

 "It was a hit to the head," he growled. "I am Balto! I am Balto!" Balto opened his eyes. Balto didn't feel himself sliding out of reach! He was back!
