Silent Like Snow: Part 1
By: Blitzthenightmare.
Weeko laid down next to the creek, watching her reflection. She growled at her reflection. She felt ugly. Like she never fit in with anyone. She looked at her right eye, it was gone. All that was left was a black hole, and scares and scratches.
She still remembered this day. It was the worst day of her life. She lost everything. Her mate, Lyall… and her pups. Why? She didn’t do anything!
Tears rushed down Weeko’s black cheek.
“It’s not fair..” she whimpered. She growled as she felt the tear fall down. She hated crying. She felt like an idiot if she did. She tried to stay strong, if she could.
A cold breeze brushed against Weeko’ s fur. She shivered, then curled up. Hiding her face in her tail.
Moments later, she felt like something was watching her. Her black ears twitched, stress rose up in her back. Weeko couldn’t handle it anymore, she stood quickly, and turned around.
Nothing was there. Nothing.
Really? she growled at herself.
She went close to the creek and drank some water, she heard someone’s feet walking close to her. She pinned her ears back, her tail swishing side to side. She turned around again, nothing was there. Again.
“Hello?” she spoke. “anyone there? Please come out!” she snapped.
She waited anxiously for something to step out of the dark forest and show itself.
A white paw stepped out. Weeko studied the creature stepping out.
“Hello” it spoke, calmly.
Weeko say a grey and white wolf. “Hello?”
The wolf stepped out into the sunshine, smiling.
“Lyall?” Weeko asked.
“Weeko?” The wolf was concerned
“Is it you?” She asked growling.
The wolf walked towards Weeko. “Yes. Are you Weeko?” He asked.
Weeko nodded. She felt a rage coming, the last time she last saw her mate was 4 years ago, when she was being attacked by another wolf, she lost everything…
“ I am Weeko..”
“I missed you..” Lyall smiled. “What happened to your eye?” He asked worried.
“ I lost it, the day you left me” she spat.
He growled. “ I didn’t leave you!”
“Then, what?”
Lyall sighed. “I saw you on the ground, I thought you were dead”
“ I wasn’t why didn’t you come and see if I wasn’t?” Weeko asked.
“ I was afraid, I didn’t want to see you dead.” Lyall told.
Silence. Silence hit Lyall and Weeko like a train. Weeko was speechless, she wanted to see him again, but she was to angry. Dark clouds began to roll over their heads, and the rain started to hit them.
“ I’m sorry.” Weeko sighed.
“For what?”
“ For being rude.” Weeko hung her head low.
He smiled, and looked at her. “ Don’t worry about it.”
“Lyall? What happened to our pups? Where are they?” Weeko asked, tears falling out of her eyes.
Lyall’s heart ached. “That night.. I left. The pups… died… I don’t know what happened to Jenn though.” he sighed.
Weeko’s tears rolled down her black cheek, she swallowed hard. “ Oh, I didn’t know..”
Lyall’s eye brows rose. “Yeah” he nodded.
Thunder rolled over their heads. Weeko looked up “Well, bye”
Lyall was confused. “what?”
“I’m going, I’ll see you around” Weeko sobbed. Her ears went down low, and she walked away slowly, her back down.
Lyall watched her walk away, then she dissapeard into the forest.
“ I love you, Weeko” Lyall whispered.
He turned around and went the opposite way.
----
The rain came to a cease, morning came and Weeko got up and went out to go catch some food. She walked out onto the meadow, looking for anything.
No hunters, no other wolves.
Weeko spotted a rabbit. She lowered her body to the ground, and crawled towards it. Soon she was a few inches away from it, she hid in the high grass, she waited for the right moment to come.
She felt the moment was here, she lifted her body up slowly and pounced onto the rabbit, she opened her jaw and caught it. She bit on it’s neck ‘till it died.
She ate it up, and licked herself afterwards.
“Nice catch, Weeko!” a soft voice praised Weeko.
She turned around “Lyall?”
Lyall stood tall, “Yes?”
How did he find me? He must’ve been watching me. Weeko thought..
“Nothing, how did you find me?” Weeko asked with a little growl.
Lyall looked at Weeko.
“Well this is meadow, you’re a black wolf that looks beat up, not really that hard to find” he spoke.
“Guess.. So”.
Weeko felt something bad was gonna happen. She sniffed the air, she smelt a wolf pack, a strong one, one with lots of wolves. They smelt like they had no fear in them.
“What’s wrong, Weeko?” Lyall asked.
“ I smell…”
“Weeko! Hide!” Lyall yelled pushing Weeko towards a bush.
“Pack..” murmured Weeko.
“Stay down low” Lyall commanded.
“No! They’ll find us! Their noses aren’t broken!” Weeko growled.
“Just stay down low!” Lyall growled again.
Weeko didn’t like how he was telling her what to do, he wasn’t her mate. Anymore. Weeko stood up, “ No! You are not the boss of me, you are not my mate!” Weeko ran off.
She ran towards the dark, green forest. I need to run away far so Lyall and the wolf pack don’t find me… or at least get away , thought Weeko.
She ran into the forest, not watching where she was looking she kept her eyes locked ahead of her, all she knew was getting away from Lyall and the wolf pack would be better.
---
Lyall hid in the bushes hiding himself right into it. He watched the wolf pack, it was a huge pack. Nearly 25 wolves? They seemed strong and tough, a single wolf could die from one of them. Lyall studied the wolf pack, they stopped and sniffed the air, they ran into the forest where Weeko went.
No! He screamed in his mind. Soon, the wolf pack was all gone, into the forest.
“They might find Weeko and kill her!” Lyall whispered. He sneered. “I better go and find her and make sure, she’s fine though…” he started to run towards the forest, watching where he was going.
---
Weeko came to a stop, she sniffed the air.. The wolf pack scent was getting close, then she saw a wolf, maybe the Beta of this pack. He was Dark brown with a bit of yellow on his belly.
It spotted her, he growled and started to run towards her. Weeko’s heart raced, she was frozen, she knew she’d be a goner before the sunset. The wolf got closer, he was right about to get her…
Oof.
“What?” Weeko fell to the ground, did the wolf get her? She didn’t see anything, then she turned her head she saw two unknown wolves attacking each other. Their jaws wide and big, their teeth sharp and strong.
One wolf, black with white, with some red bite the Beta wolf, biting down on it’s neck bringing it down. He took some fur off the wolf.
“Leave!” ordered the black and white wolf.
The beta wolf smirked and jumped onto the black and white wolf, the wolf pushed with his back feet, pushing it off him.
A howl hollered from the distance, the beta wolf looked at Weeko and ran off.
The Black and white wolf turned to Weeko, her heart raced, she got up and quickly and tried to get away.
“Whoa! Im not going to hurt you..” it spoke clear.
Weeko had been through so many fights, and met so many wolves, she didn’t know which ones to trust, but she had a feeling this wolf was not gonna hurt her.
“Are you alright?” he asked her.
Weeko looked up, “Yes”
“Thank good-ness…” he smiled.
Weeko nodded. “Yes, I best be going”
The wolf stepped in front of her. “Why so fast? Did that wolf take off your eye ball?”
Weeko looked at her feet, then up to the wolf. “No, my right eye has been gone for four years, I was attacked by another wolf.”
The wolf nodded. “Oh, well you’re a lucky one, you didn’t die”
“Yes, I have been told I am a strong wolf..”
“That’s interesting. Well, by the way my name is; Bloodlust, what is yours?”
“ My name is Weeko.”
“That’s such a pretty name.. for such a pretty wolf” Bloodlust stepped closer to Weeko, she stepped back.
“What’s wrong?” He asked her.
Weeko lifted up her black ears, did he really care for her? Or was it a trap?
“ Nothing.” She turned away, she didn’t want to make any eye contact with this wolf.
“ I better be going”
Blood lust looked at Weeko. “ Oh, Ok. But before I smell a wolf lurking around her..” He warned her in a low growl.
---
Mean while.. Lyall was hiding in a dark green bush. The rain fell against his fur, he shivered. He watched Weeko and Bloodlust. He studied them. He watched as Weeko walked away and soon disappeared into the forest. He watched Bloodlust walk around. Bloodlust caught his eye. He growled and came over to Lyall.
“Who are you?!” He growled, his black ears pinned back, he puffed out his chest to make himself look stronger. Lyall had been through so much in his life, he wasn’t afraid of a ‘wolf’. A wolf pack was different, but not just one wolf.
“The name is Lyall.” Lyall looked at Bloodlust. “And you’re Bloodlust…”
“How do you know my name?!” Bloodlust asked curious.
“ I was watching you, with Weeko. The female wolf you were just talking too”
The rain began to stop, but the sun did not shine, it was cloudy, and the wind began to pick up.
“Do you know that wolf?” Bloodlust asked Lyall.
Lyall sighed, the wind hit his face, and he shivered. “Yes, she was my mate”
A smirk grew onto Bloodlust’s face. “Was? What happened?”
Lyall didn’t know if this wolf needed to know what happened in the past, or if he didn’t need to know.
“When Weeko lost her eye, I left that night. It was a hard night, We were just kicked out of our pack, and we stayed in a place, I went to go hunting, and one of our puppies, left and Weeko went to go find her, then Weeko got into a fight, and I had to leave, I tried to save Weeko… but…-”
“So you just left, while your mate was being killed?” Bloodlust interrupted.
Lyall felt guilty, he didn’t mean for this to happen. “Not exactly…”
Bloodlust “Well she didn’t deserve you!” He hissed.
“She needs someone to care for her, not a useless piece of meat!”
Weeko could hear Bloodlust and Lyall growling. Maybe I should just go see what’s going on… she thought. She headed the way, where she left, soon she came back, she hid in the shadows of the trees, watching Bloodlust and Lyall fight.
“Im not useless! I was a coward in the past!” Lyall growled, he was feeling a rage come opon him, he pinned his ears back.
Bloodlust laughed. “You still are…”
Lyall couldn’t take it anymore.. He growled loudly, then jumped onto Bloodlust, biting the fur on his neck, he pushed him down. “No Im not!” he bit into Bloodlust’s neck. Bloodlust pushed with his back paws and pushed away Lyall.
Lyall tripped over his own feet. He got back up again, he ran and jumped onto bloodlust, Bloodlust ran and jumped onto Lyall, he bit some of his ear off.
Lyall shook his head, “whats it to you?” Bloodlust jumped onto Lyall and brought him down, he bit onto his neck, choking Lyall. Lyall coughed, and tried to push Bloodlust off, but couldn’t.
“Get….off…me!” Lyall growled.
“Lyall!” Weeko cried, she jumped into the scene.
“Leave him alone!” Weeko sneered, walking towards Bloodlust, she pushed him off. “Leave…!” she had sweats of blood rolling off her face.
Bloodlust pinned his ears back. “Why does it matter? He left you! He didn’t care for you! Those words rang in Weeko’s ears, and stayed in one place in her mind.
“It’s not true…” mumbled Lyall. He couldn’t talk, he felt the urge too, but was badly injured.
Weeko looked at Lyall, tears fell down her cheek. “ I have only known you for a day, and you kill… My..-”
“Your what? He’s not your mate anymore…” Bloodlust sneered.
Weeko stopped, she didn’t know what to call him, but she didn’t care. “Leave!”
Bloodlust rolled his eyes, Weeko ran up and jumped onto Bloodlust, gripped onto his neck, trying to choke him. Blood squirted out of his neck. Weeko let go.
Bloodlust felt dizzy, he shook his big head. He sneered and stumbled away.
Weeko sighed, she knew she wasn’t done with him, she knew Bloodlust would return for revenge. She turned her head and looked at Lyall. He layed on the grass, blood all around him. She slowly walked up to him, she was speechless. She had forgave him, but he couldn’t just die. He couldn’t.
She touched her nose onto his.
“Lyall?…” He was silent. Silent as snow. “You can’t be dead, I cant lose you! You were alive 5 minutes ago! Now you’re gone?” She licked his face and layed beside him, hoping he’d come back, or say something.
Everything was Silent… The wind was calm, No movement, No wolves running around, no birds chirping, don’t rain clamming down, just sadness like rain…
To be continued….
