Rabid chapter 2
…………In front of her lay the body of a dead dog, its throat had been torn out and its side was so badly savaged that you could see the ribs through the torn flesh. Sasha closed her eyes and looked away trying to shut out the terrible sight.
“Great stars” she gasped looking at the others “what did this?
Dexter stepped forward and sniffed the body “more like who” he growled “dog scent”.
“You mean a dog did this” growled Sasha “why would a dog kill his own kind it’s against the law?”
“I don’t know” replied Dexter “but whoever it was they didn’t care” he stepped back and padded over to Sasha pressing his warm body against hers. Buffy glared at them but Sasha ignored her
“We must find out who did this to him” she growled “before whoever got him gets us
” Gets us” snarled Buffy ‘you’re just a scaredy cat” Sasha opened her mouth to reply but Chocolate stepped between them
“yes but we ‘wont find out by fighting “he snarled “for now lets go and swim we will discus it later “.
‘You’re not the boss of us” snarled Buffy “you can’t tell us what to do”.
Chocolate spun around and glared at Buffy “how dare you” he snarled “I am the oldest and the elder for as long as I am alive I will be leader”
Sasha and the others yowled their agreement “Yeah Buffy” snarled Dexter “stop trying to be leader even if Chocolate dies tomorrow he wont make you leader” the others yowled again.
But Buffy ignored him and instead turned on Chocolate “well we’ll just have to fight it out I can take on a spiteful old bone bag like you!”…………..
Sasha and the others froze; Chocolate was the best fighter in the pack and hated insults towards him
“You dare insult me” he snarled angrily.
Chocolate bunched his mussels and leapt Buffy leapt nimbly aside but chocolate was faster, he landed, and Quick as lightning he tripped Buffy with his paws and pinned her to the ground “How dare you insult me” he snarled “you will never become leader Sasha will be leader when I die” Sasha gasped in surprise Buffy gave a snarl
“That piece of dumb fur, she couldn’t even lead a hunt” Sasha snarled and took a swipe at Buffy. Chocolate glared at Buffy and sank his teeth onto her neck. Sasha snorted and spun around stalking in the direction of the river. Sasha heard someone follow her and spun around it was Dexter
“Sasha wait where are you going?’ he growled. Sasha stopped and spun around
“To the river” she growled “I can’t stay there while that piece of fox dung named Buffy insults everybody she needs to be taught a lesson” with that Sasha spun around and ran to the river.
It was midday and Sasha was sitting with her pack near the river discussing what they should do about the body. “There was a strange smell to it” growled Dexter “something I’ve never smelled before, Kind of like blood but different, what do you think Chocolate?’
“I don’t know Chocolate replied but whoever…. whatever did it clearly had no care for the law” chocolate stood up “so we are going to see if we can find any evidence that will lead us to the killer”
He spun around and ran in the direction of the body Sasha paused for a moment to glare at Buffy who had snuck up behind her Sasha smirked at the wound on her neck from Chocolate
“Lost the fight did you? Who’s the weakling dog now” Sasha sneered. Buffy drew her lips onto a snarl and lent t over Sasha’s ear
“Ill be leader yet I can take on a weaklings like you and chocolate” She whispered. Buffy smirked and ran after Chocolate, Sasha sighed and followed.
“Look for paw prints, a sent trail or any thing else that might lead us to the killer” Yowled chocolate
Sasha spun around and raced into the bushes behind the dead dog and instantly saw them, paw prints they were half covered and there was only two but Sasha Waged her tail happily
“Over here” she yowled.
Chocolate was the first to reach her “paw prints” she growled indicating with her tail “the trail leads south” growled chocolate as the others skidded to a halt beside him
Lets go” Chocolate began to slowly walk south
Dexter pressed his nose to Sasha’s side “I’ll protect you” growled Dexter glaring at Buffy “You and Chocolate” Sasha licked Dexter’s muzzle and followed Chocolate south..
Sasha stood looking in amazement at the structure in front of her “What’s a place like this doing in the middle of the Australian Bush there’s no human civilization for miles?.”
Sasha was looking at a large Building. It was only one story but it was huge.
“What is it doing all the way out here” growled Dexter “as Sasha said there’s no human civilization for miles, why would a place like this be out here?’.
“Maybe someone used to live here” suggested Charlie “and just left”.
“I doubt it” growled Gemma “a normal human home isn’t surrounded by fences this high it must be a facility of some type.
“Gemma’s right” growled Chocolate “it must be a facility” he started walking toward it “lets take a look” he growled.
Sasha walked over to Dexter and Gemma “come on lets go in together” she growled. Dexter liked the top of Sasha’s head and Gemma nodded agreement, Sasha waved her tail for the rest of the pack to join them.
Sprocket Raced over “his is so Exiting” she yowled “I love exploring things; Demon just nodded and touched Sprocket with his tail tip. Finlay just looked worried. Sasha nodded to them and followed Chocolate. They stopped at the door of the building.
“How are we going to get in” asked Finlay as she came up?
Chocolate looked around,” we’re going to have to find a hole in the wall or even an open door,” Just as Chocolate said it Sasha spotted a hole in the wall about 700 metres away,
“Like that” she growled flicking her tail at the hole,
Chocolate snorted “yes let’s go”
Sasha followed Chocolate into the
Inside the building was dark and Uncomforting, it smelled old and somehow strange. Sasha looked around there were piles of boxes and other things rotting on the floor.
“This place gives me the creeps” shuttered Sprocket pressing close to Demon “I don’t like it”, Demon touched the tip of her head with his nose
“She’s right” he growled “something about this place gives me the creeps”.
Buffy snorted “wus” she muttered.
Chocolate glared at her for a moment then turned to address the others”stick together” he growled “we can’t take the chance that that dog is still in here.
Sasha and the others rumbled in agreement, Chocolate nodded and began to investigate. Sasha followed Dexter over to a pile of old boxes and began to investigate. The boxes were empty. “That’s weird…” growled Sasha she was interrupted by a horrified yowl coming from another room. Sasha raced into the room and over to Charlie who was standing over two red objects on the floor. Sasha gasped and skidded to a halt as she realized what they were.
In front of her lay two human bodies their throats had been torn out and their stomach ripped open the intestines were dangling out.. Sasha closed her eyes and held her breath to stop herself from gagging
“What kind of monster dog did this” she growled
“Yes killing a human is also a crime” Charlie growled “we must find this dog and kill it….
“Looks like the jobs already done” growled Dexter, he was standing over the dead body of another dog. Sasha walked over to Dexter followed by Chocolate and Sprocket, the dog lay on its side, its muzzle was covered in blood its claws were unsheathed and there was a single wound to its head.
“It was shot” gasped Sprocket “maybe one of the humans got away?
“I doubt it” growled Dexter looking at yet more bodies strewn across the ground “but maybe they shot it before they died’ He stopped “but why…” he broke off as if confused.
“There has to be some explanation” growled Gemma
“I think I just found it” growled Sasha she was looking up at a sign nailed to the wall “rabies testing facility” she read out.
“Testing facility” growled Dexter
“They made them” gasped Finlay
Looks like” growled Chocolate
“But why” stammered Finlay “why would….” She was interrupted by a startled yelp. Finlay jumped and looked at Buffy who was shaking her paw as if in pain.
“Buffy are you alright” asked Finlay “did you hurt yourself”
“I just tripped that’s all “snapped Buffy shaking herself and glaring at Finlay “I can look after myself thank you”.
For a heartbeat Sasha thought she saw anger flash across Finlay’s eyes but it was gone so quickly she could not be sure “Very well then I was just worried” growled Finlay.
Sasha saw Gemma and Finlay exchanges a worried glance; she opened her mouth to ask them what was wrong when Chocolate spoke.
“Let’s get out of here” he growled, Sasha and the others nodded their agreement and followed Chocolate out of the building.
But no one saw the needle dripping red liquid sticking out of the shelves.
At the river bank
Sasha lay on the river bank with Dexter quietly talking,
“Why do you think the humans were experimenting on dog like that” she asked “ and what were they trying to do with the rabies virus?.
Dexter shrugged “I don’t know” he growled uneasily” but whatever the reason it failed”.
“The dog must have tuned on them” growled Sasha “but you know what I don’t get it, rabies doesn’t make dogs kill, it doesn’t make sense”
Dexter liked his lips as if tasting a piece of prey “true” he growled “but the humans must have mixed something in with the formula “ changed it so that it made It a killer” he paused and closed his eyes thinking “ but what” he growled “and why”
Sasha opened her mouth to reply when Charlie padded up to them dripping wet “are you coming in?’ she growled.
Sasha exchanged a glance with Dexter “maybe” she replied “we were just discussing the facility, trying to figure out what the humans were doing’
Charlie shivered “I don’t want to remember it” she growled shakily “it’s to horrifying, to terrifying” she lay down in front of them “I mean why would the humans deliberately make a killer?”
Dexter snorted “humans do lots of stupid things” he growled “what’s to say this is unusual” he got up and shook himself “well I’m going in” he growled wadding into the river “I’m too hot” Sasha stood and waded into the river behind him.
At the camp site (where they meet every night)
Sasha walked into the campsite holding a huge rabbit in her jaws. She walked over to where Dexter and sprocket were sitting and lay down next to Dexter “Greetings” she growled waving her tail at Sprocket who gave a small nod of acknowledgment. Sasha shrugged and began tearing into the rabbit “good hunting” growled Sasha noticing the huge pieces of fresh kill at their feet.
Dexter nodded “Chocolate is going to call a meeting at moonhigh” he warned “he said we must discuss what happened today and try to determine what happened”
Sasha was about to reply when Charlie walked past carrying a fish. Charlie nodded at them and walked toward Chocolate. On the way she passed Buffy, she didn’t see Buffy and accidentally stepped on her paw.
Buffy snarled and took a swipe at Charlie who jumped back in fright.
“Watch where your going bumble brain” snarled Buffy
Gemma and Finlay who were walking past stopped and exchanged a suspicious glance. Sasha shared their suspicion and surprise sure Buffy was aggressive but not this aggressive.
Sprocket snorted and walked over to Buffy “take it easy Buffy” she growled irritably Charlie didn’t mean it.
Buffy glared at Sprocket for a minute, then her eyes softened and she shook her head as if to clear the anger “No I’m sorry Charlie” she growled softly “you just startled me”. Sasha saw Gemma and Finlay exchange another worried glance and walked over to them.
“What’s wrong” she growled
Finlay opened her mouth to say something then closed it again. “Nothing” growled Gemma. Gemma nuzzled Finlay and the two of them walked over to a shady spot
Sasha snorted and stalked back to Dexter and Sprocket She then sat down and began to tear into the rabbit again.
Sasha finished her rabbit and liked her lips. She rolled onto her back giving a long luxurious stretch as she looked around the camp she saw Buffy glaring at her, her eyes filled with hatred and something else. Sasha snorted and got to her feet, Dexter was asleep next to her “Dexter” she growled prodding him with her paw “want to go for a walk?” Dexter opened his eyes and stretched.
“Its nearly moonhigh” he growled Chocolate will be calling the meeting soon”
Sasha rolled her eyes irritably “well be back before that” she lent close to Dexter’s ear “I just wanted to get away from Buffy’s glare.
Dexter turned his head to look at Buffy who was still glaring at them “ok” he sighed “but we must be back…”
“Don’t worry we will” growled Sasha angrily losing patience. She spun around and walked into the forest
“Buffy sure acted strange before” growled Sasha
Dexter nodded “yes a bit suspicious If you ask me”
Sasha stopped “what do you mean” she queried
Dexter rolled his eyes “ think about it” he urged “we go into a strange building that used to hold rabid dogs Buffy tripped, or so she said, and now she’s acting more aggressive than ever, there’s something wrong here”
Sasha was about to reply when Charlie crashed through the bushes behind them “there you are” growled Charlie “chocolate has called a meeting”
Dexter snorted “but it’s not moonhigh yet” he growled challengingly
“He called the meeting early and he’s waiting for you he’s not happy” spluttered Charlie
Dexter curled his lips in a snarl “well he can just wait a few moments longer” he snarled “when he
Charlie took a step back clearly frightened “I’m sorry...” she began
Dexter smiled and pressed his nose to hers “no I’m sorry, you didn’t do anything wrong” Dexter snorted “we’d better get back” he snarled “or chocolate will be angry” he sneered the last words. Sasha followed Dexter to the campsite.
The next morning
A yowl of fear and pain woke Sasha with a start. Sasha shot to her paws and looked around, in front of her Buffy was fighting with sprocket and had her pinned into the dirt bent over her throat as if to rip it out. Sasha rushed forward “Buffy what are you doing” she gasped. Buffy turned to her lips drawn back in a vicious snarl, Sasha saw that her eyes were clouded with something she had never seen before, as if she wanted to rip her apart. Sasha backed away “Buffy what’s wrong she stammered” for and answer and before anyone could stop her Buffy lowered her jaws across sprockets throat and ripped it open, she then ripped her chest open. Sasha stumbled backwards “B Buffy what’s gotten into you” Sasha whimpered “You killed your own sister, your own sister”. For an answer Buffy let go of sprockets’ limp body and turned on Sasha. Buffy stalked toward her, her muzzle soaked in blood “Buffy what’s gotten into you” stammered Sasha. But instead of answering Buffy gave a vicious snarl and leapt at Sasha claws extended to rip her apart………….
