‘’Tag you’re it, Oreo!’’ Kira yelled as she ran away.

“I’m gonna get you Kira!’’ Oreo yelled as he chased her into an open meadow.

“You’ll never find me now.’’ Kira said as she hid in a patch of flowers.

Oreo sniffed out her scent when he found her their noses met, but they pulled away.

“Kira, come on girl we have to go.’’ Kira’s owner yelled, “We have to be on the road by one.”

“Where are you going Kira?” Oreo asked as he tugged on Kira’s ear.

“My master and I are moving away.” Kira said as she pulled away.

“I wish you didn’t have to go’’ Oreo said, ‘’you’re my best friend.’’

“You’re my best friend too but I have to go she’s my master I have to obey her.’’ Kira said.

She gave him a friendly nuzzle then trotted away.

As soon as her owner put her in the truck she stuck her head out the window and said, “Goodbye, Oreo, I’ll never forget you!”

Oreo ran to catch the truck but stopped and said, “I’ll never forget you either, Kira!’’ and then he howled a goodbye.

                                                         Three years later

‘’Kira, Kira, snap out of it!’’ Ally yelled.

‘’What? Oh, sorry I couldn’t stop thinking about my best friend.’’ Kira said.

‘’What was his name again?’’ Ally asked.

‘’His name was Oreo. And we said that we would never forget each other.’’ Kira said.

‘’Oh, now I remember him. You always used to play with him while I used to play with the other dogs.’’ Ally said as she went to get a drink from the dog bowl.

Just then they heard a gunshot and they both raced to the window.

‘’I’ll get you! Even if it’s the last thing I do!” Old man Jenkins yelled.

Just then an all white wolf ran out of his shop. He stopped and looked at Kira. Kira stared back. The wolf walked up to her.

“Are you Kira?’’ he asked.

“Yes, I’m Kira. Are you Kiba?’’ Kira asked as she walked out the doggy door and stood face to face with the wolfdog.

‘’Yeah, I’m Kiba.’’ H e said.

‘’Oh my goodness it’s you! I thought I would never see you again!’’ Kira said.

‘’I thought the same thing! But we were wrong.” Kiba said.

Alaska leaped on her, but Kiba knocked him over and said something to him and then he backed away.

‘’Come here I want to show you the pack.’’ Kiba said as he tugged on her ear.

He showed her his pack but then a dog came over.

‘’Hey Kira you want to go for a ride in my owners new truck.’’ Rex said as he circled Kira.

“No thanks Rex.’’ Kira said as she backed away.

“But you have to.’’ Rex said.

“No thank you, Rex, I don’t want to go.’’ Kira said a little angry.

“Come on Kira, don’t say that you know you want to.’’ Rex said still circling Kira but getting closer and closer.

“Hey, she said she doesn’t want to go so just back off.’’ Kiba said.

“Back off Fido this doesn’t concern you.’’ Rex said.

Rex grabbed Kira’s collar and started dragging her towards the truck.

‘’Let me go now Rex!’’ Kira said.

‘’Let her go half breed.’’ Kiba said.

‘’What did you call me mutt?’’ Rex asked.

‘’You heard me I called you half breed.’’ Kiba said.

Rex growled leaped on Kiba. They started to fight but Kiba scared the fur off of Rex…literally.

“You okay, Kira?” Kiba asked.

‘’I’m fine what about you?’’ Kira asked licking his wounds and shivering in the cold. “Hey remember when we were pups and I was always licking your wounds and you would always come back with more wounds?’’ 

“Yeah, I remember’’ Kiba said, ‘’and I’m fine.’’

“Get back here you beasts!’’ Old man Jenkins yelled.

“I have to go but I’ll come back tonight!” Kiba yelled as he ran away.

After Kiba left Ally went to talk with Kira.

‘’Who was that?’’ Ally asked.

‘’They were Kiba and Alaska, they are two of my brothers.’’ Kira exclaimed.

“How come I never met him when I’m your sister?” Ally asked.

“Even though you’re not related to me you’re like another sister to me.” Kira said.

“Oh.’’ Ally said.

“It’s okay. I’m gonna go out into the forest for some fresh air.’’ Kira said as she got up to leave.

“You’re not just going to go get some fresh air.’’ Ally said blocking the doggy door.

“It’s just…I don’t feel like I belong here.’’ Kira said.

“You’re not leaving Kira…I’m not gonna let you.’’ Ally said.

“Fine I’ll just go this way.’’ Kira said as she jumped out the window.

Kira kept running until she couldn’t anymore. She collapsed from running too tired to continue.

She woke up in a cave and realized she was far away from humans to be missed.

She looked up and saw a black and white wolf standing over her.

“So you’re finally awake huh?’’ the wolf said handing her a chunk of deer meat.

‘’Yeah I came out here to search for a friend.’’ Kira said after she finished the piece of meat.

“I had a friend that I used to play with as a pup but I never saw her again.’’ the wolf said.

“I miss my best friend too I never saw him again the last time I saw him was when we were playing in an open meadow right before I moved into town but I felt like I didn’t belong there so I came out here to look for him.’’ Kira said as she tried to get up.

‘’You better stay off that paw,’’ the wolf said, ‘’what was your friends name?’’

“His name was Oreo.’’ Kira said.

“Kira...Kira! It’s you I thought I’d never see you again!’’ the wolf said.

“Wait how do you know my name?’’ Kira asked surprised.

“Because it’s me Oreo remember.’’ He said.

“It is you I can’t believe it!” Kira said.

“Hey, Oreo, I think a rouge wolf is watching the pack from a distance.’’ A wolf from his pack informed.

“You think you can stand on your paws?” Oreo asked.

“Yeah I think I can.’’ Kira said as she got up.

BANG!!!

‘’Hunters… they’re gonna kill us…what do we do!?” a wolf asked.

“Gotcha this one is gonna make a great prize for anybody.’’ One of the hunters said as he put Kira in a cage.

“Oreo help me!’’ Kira yelled.

‘’Okay guys, when night fall comes I’m going to go follow the hunters scent and go rescue Kira… if the hunters return run deeper into the forest…and no stopping for breaks.’’ Oreo yelled out, ‘’Do you understand guys?’’

The wolves nodded and watched as Oreo ran into the forest.

He followed the scent until he came to the shack.

“Hush up you filthy mongrel!’’ One of the hunters said.

As soon as the hunters fell asleep Oreo went in.

“Hey Kira where are you?’’ Oreo asked in the black darkness not knowing that he was right in front of one of the guard dogs.

‘’Hey what are you doing here you aren’t supposed to trespass.’’ One of the dogs said.

The dogs started to get up but Oreo bolted for the room where Kira was being held.

“C’mon Kira we don’t have much time before the dogs come.’’ Oreo said as he tried to hack the lock.

As soon as they got the lock broken they jumped out the window.

BANG!!!

‘’Aaagggh!’’ Kira yelped in pain.

‘’Kira, come on get up!’’ Oreo urged. But then he saw that she had been shot in the leg, ‘’Aw man what am I going to do now?”                                                                             

“Get back here with my fur pelt you mangy dog!’’ one of the hunters yelled.

Oreo rolled Kira on her side and then put her on his back and ran.

As soon as they got back to the pack they both collapsed in a heap.

‘’Oh man what happened?’’ Kira asked.

“You got shot in your leg and I had to carry you all the way back here.’’ Oreo gasped.

‘’RRRRRRRRRRRRRRooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwrrrr!!’’ something yelled from outside.

“Grizzly bear run for your lives!” one of the wolves yelled.

Even though the whole pack could have taken the bear down…who knows if there are more?

Oreo tried to protect his best friend but got thrown down instead.

The bear grabbed Kira by the leg and threw her into a tree. He started to kill her but the pack attacked it and it left.

‘’Kira get up please!’’ Oreo pleaded.

‘’I…I…can’t it hurts too much…besides I’m probably going to die anyway…so…what’s the use?’’ Kira asked as she yelped in pain.

‘’No you aren’t gonna die because I’m going to go get your father he’ll know what to do.’’ Oreo said as he ran off.

By the time they came to Kira’s side it looked like it was too late.

“Kira…Kira get up.’’ Her brother Alaska said as he nuzzled her.

“Kira please get up we’re going to help you.’’ Her father Sitka explained.

“Daddy…I’m sorry.’’ Kira said with every bit of strength she had left.

“No I’m sorry…I wasn’t there when you needed me the most.’ ’Sitka replied.

Kira was taken to Sitka’s territory to get better, but Oreo was allowed to visit her.

Three weeks passed and Kira recovered from her wounds…but one healed but left a scar on her neck and so she wears a blue bandana.

‘’Hey you feeling okay, Kira?’’ Oreo said as he and Kira’s brothers Kiba, Kujo and Ax came in.

‘’Yeah but one of the scars didn’t heal all the way so I have to wear one of my mother’s bandana’s. She gave one to my sisters Rose and Summer too.’’ Kira replied as she went to go greet him.                  

‘’I’m glad we’re best friends, Kira, I wish I knew how to thank you.’’ Oreo said as he walked to the edge of Sitka’s territory.

‘’Oreo you saved my life many times…I would be lost without you.’’ Kira said as she nuzzled him.

‘’Oreo thank you for saving my daughter’s life if there’s anything we can do for you let us know.’’ Sitka said as he walked up to them. ‘’Kira you are welcome to visit Oreo any time you want…as long as you tell me first.’’

“I will daddy…I promise.’’ Kira replied.

Oreo and Kira walked until they came to a familiar meadow.

‘’Remember this place, Kira?’’ Oreo asked.

‘’Yeah, I remember this meadow.’’ She answered.

Oreo looked at Kira, “You’re it, Kira!’’

“I’m gonna get you Oreo!” Kira said as she ran to tag him.

They played till the sun disappeared and the stars came out.

They watched the stars for a while, and then Oreo took Kira home.

“Good night…best friends till the end?” Oreo asked.

“Best friends till the end.’’ Kira laughed.

They nuzzled each other and then they both went home.
