Chapter 1
Balto was one of the happiest dogs alive at the moment. He had just survived a terrorist hijacking of his plane, and now an Australian director wanted to make a movie about it! It was starring Brad Pitt (in a dog suit) as him, and Jessica Alba (in a dog suit) as Jenna! Balto and Jenna flew down as technical consultants, and stayed for the premiere in Sydney. While they were down there, they got a job offer from a dog named Steele Karrzon who wanted two pilots for his private jet. Unfortunately, it was in San Diego, so they would have to fly. They had booked a flight on Oceanic Flight 815 (no similarities to Flight 815 that Balto and Jenna flew. This one is Oceanic.).
Hoo boy. 815. said Balto. I never want to hear that number again in my life.
Just our luck it'll probably crash on some island.
I doubt it. I've crashed four planes in my life. I highly doubt that would happen to me again.
They boarded the plane, and it took off with no problems. Except for a loud obnoxious German passenger named Adolf Hitler.
I refuse to eat that scum! he shouted when lunch was served. Hamburgers, Pepsi and Ice Cream! No! I refuse!
But sir, it's all we have, said the stewardess. Unless you'd be content with some peanuts.
Peanuts?! he screamed Thot's worse! I vill not be satisfied vith anything less than a decent German meal!
Do they serve knuckle sandwiches in Germany? Balto grumbled.
I heard thot! screamed Adolf And besides, a German like me could kick your sissy American butt vith one hand tied behind my back!
Oh yeah? challenged Balto I got two words for you. Balto's Eleven!
Ba... Balto's Eleven? Adolf sat down and got quiet very quickly.
What the heck are Balto's Eleven? Jenna asked.
The gang I was the mastermind for. We were notorious in Germany.
Ah.
Adolf was silent for most of he trip. He kept taking quick peeks at Balto to make sure he was staying away. Balto was also silent. He was either sleeping or listening to music most of the time. Jenna leaned over to try to hear what he was listening to.
Oh come on! she thought That's like the tenth time he's listened to 'Thunderstruck'! Doesn't he ever get tired of it?
It only got worse when he quietly started singing along.
'Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah... thunder! Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah... thunder!' he kept whispering. It got even worse when he sang along with 'Bohemian Rhapsody'.
I see a little silhouetto of a man, SCARAMOUCHE SCARAMOUCHE, will you do the fan-DANG-GO...
Will you shut up?!! Jenna finally screamed.
This looked particularly odd to all the other passengers, because Balto was singing loud enough only for himself and Jenna to hear.
The American girl is going crazy! shouted Adolf.
Balto looked around for a moment, shrugged, put his earphones back in, and started singing along with Van Halen's 'The Cradle Will Rock.'
You see it's really kinda frightenin' how this... younger generationswiiings .... you know it's more than just some new sensaaation ...
It's going to be a long trip. thought Jenna.
Eventually, Balto fell back asleep. Jenna decided to pull a very, very vicious trick on him. She unplugged the earphones from his IPod, plugged them into her own, hid Balto's IPod, and put the earphones back on Balto's head. When he woke back up, he immediately hit the 'play' button. He expected 'TNT' to start playing, but rather got a horrible earful of Jesse McCartney music. He shrieked and tore the earphones out and hurled the IPod clear into the front row. The man who's lap it landed in picked it up and looked at it for a moment. When a stewardess saw it, she looked at the playlist (all Jesse McCartney and Celine Dion) and promptly had the man arrested for bringing a potentially lethal weapon on the plane.
At this point the trip turned dangerous. The pilot was asleep, and had been for twenty minutes. The co-pilot shook him awake.
What? What? grumbled the pilot.
The navigation systems have gone dead!
Are you sure?
Positive. Everything is deader than the cat I ran over this morning! And slightly more alive than my mother-in-law.
Oh great. Check the map. Where are we now?
Uh, here sir. He pointed to a location on the map.
It looks like our best bet would be to reroute to Fiji. We can see if we can land and get some repairs.
They flew on that course for awhile, until they hit turbulence.
Attention passengers! Please fasten your seat belts. We will be experiencing some turbulence.
Everyone one the plane panicked, scrambling back to their seats and putting on their seat belts. Except Balto. He just sat there smiling.
Balto! What are you so happy about?
He didn't respond. Then Jenna noticed. He had ear phones on. She grabbed them and yanked them out of his ears.
What are you so happy about? she asked again.
Oh, I don't know. I just always liked the way Bon Scott sings 'Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap.'
Didn't you hear the captain?
No. What did he say?
We're hitting turbulence! We need our seat belts on! Didn't you notice everybody quickly putting on their seat belts? Didn't you even feel the turbulence?
No. Like I said, I really like 'Dirty Deeds'.
The plane hit more turbulence. Now Balto put his seat belt on. And the plane hit more and more turbulence. Finally, the back of the plane ripped clean off the rest of the plane, one row behind Balto and Jenna! There was only one row of seats between them and the sky. And it snapped off and went flying out the back! Balto felt his chair beginning to do the same, so he unfastened his belt, and grabbed on to the seat in front of him. Jenna saw this and did the same. An instant later, their row of seats flew out the back. They managed to hold on for awhile, but then the front of the plane snapped off as well! The jolt through the plane was enough to weaken Balto and Jenna's hold on their seats. Their grips slipped, and they went flying out the back, along with Adolf, and several others.
Chapter 2
All the passengers that flew out the back landed in the water. The ones that survived the impact had to dodge all the debris that was hailing down on them. Bits of metal, bodies, chairs, luggage, everything. A suitcase came flying down and scraped his head. Pain shot from the middle of his forehead clear down to his right ear.
Balto! shouted Jenna, barely audible over the roar of the engines. Are you alright?
He was about to respond when he saw the plane fly toward an island, and then in an explosion of fire and metal, the plane crashed on the island.
We need to swim for the island! Balto shouted. He swam for a few feet, but then the pain from his head got unbearable. He looked to his right and saw a large piece of scrap metal floating. He climbed on it and hollered to the others. Hey! Over here! Get on the metal! Then he collapsed. He put his hand up to where the suitcase had hit him. He pulled his hand away and looked at it. Red. He tore off a piece of the shirt he was wearing (his beloved vintage AC/DC concert shirt!) and put it against his head. He would've gotten it wet but it already was. He held it up there for a minute, then said to the others who had gotten on their little 'raft' Try to row with your hands. See if we can get to the island.
But thot vill take forever stupid American! Adolf complained.
You got a better idea Smiley?
Adolf just grumbled.
It took them nearly two hours to arrive at the beach, but they finally made it. Instantly people rushed to them to help them off the wing. One man in a suit came forward. He looked at Balto's head and said You'd better let me take a look at that.
You a doctor?
Yep. Jack Shepard. You?
Balto Man... he almost finished saying his real name (Mandrell), when he realized he was known as a criminal by that name. Balto Tyrell. Say, just how bad is my head?
Pretty bad. What hit you?
Luggage.
It certainly did a good job of gashing your head open. You've got a deep cut from the middle of your head to your right ear.
A perfect way to end a day. Did you know this is my fifth airplane crash?
Wow. It sounds like you have a bad history with planes.
You haven't heard the half of it. I've crashed, been hijacked, shot down, stranded on an island twice... I feel like the Apostle Paul.
Who?
Never mind. You know, having done all that, it's a wonder I ever became a pilot.
You are?
Yeah. My first mishap with a plane happened in flight school. I was flying a Cessna with my instructor on my first flight. You know what happened?
What?
The plane burst into flames.
Yikes.
We jumped out just before it exploded.
Wait. You jumped out of a flying Cessna?
Yeah. I couldn't walk for two months.
Jack finished treating Balto's head wound. He said If this starts hurting again, come and get me. I may have done something wrong. If so, your cut might get infected.
That night, they started a signal fire to alert any passing planes or boats. But soon after they finished building the fire, they heard something in the forest. All heads on the beach turned to look. The trees in the forest began to sway, at first gently, then violently. A loud roar pulsated through the forest, and onto the beach. The survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 had never heard such a sound before in their lives.
Chapter 3
The people crowded around together on the beach. The noise kept on going and the trees kept swaying. It seemed as though there was a dinosaur moving through the jungle, a huge one. Whatever it was that was moving in there was much larger than any dinosaur could possibly be.
What is that? cried someone.
Then suddenly, the noise stopped. When everyone went to sleep that night, they barely could. Everyone was so scared about the mysterious noise, it was almost impossible for them to fall asleep.
The next morning, Jack, the doctor, announced that him and a girl named Kate Austen were going to go into the forest to look for the cockpit of the plane. A guy named Charlie Pace volunteered to go with them, and Balto and Jenna did too. It took a while to convince Jack to let them go, but they eventually did.
So why exactly are we doing this? asked Jenna.
To find this thing called a transceiver, said Jack If a plane crashes, the plane automatically sends out a distress call. But it gives a wide area where the plane might be. But with the transceiver, we can send out another distress call, one that would give the rescue team a more specific of where we might be.
While they were walking through the woods, Kate kept looking back at Charlie. Finally, he asked why. She said You look familiar.
Charlie said I'll give you a hint. He started singing You all, everybody! You all, everybody!
So that's where I've seen you!
Huh? said Jenna.
I'm the bass player for Driveshaft! said Charlie.
Ah, said Balto You know you're the one who inspired me to learn to play the bass?
You play bass? asked Charlie.
And drums, piano, harmonica, and saxophone!
What's going on? asked Jack.
Does Charlie look a bit familiar? asked Kate.
Charlie started singing the song again. Jack watched with a puzzled look on his face. Charlie's singing drifted off. Jack turned and kept walking.
You all, everybody! sang Charlie, Kate, Jenna, and Balto.
Weirdos. thought Jack.
Finally, they found the front of the plane. They climbed inside, Jack and Kate toward the cockpit, and Jenna and Balto just looked around. They didn't see where Charlie went. They opened the door to the cockpit, and the co-pilot came tumbling out.
Dead dude comin' through! Balto shouted down to Jenna.
Jack and Kate entered the cockpit, and found the pilot, alive. He began telling them about how the systems had gone dead and they rerouted to Fiji. He finished by saying By time we crashed, we were a thousand miles off course.
The rescue team will never find us.
Meanwhile, Balto was looking around to see if he could find something interesting. When he looked down one isle, he saw a laptop in the window seat. He leaned over to grab it when a passenger slumped down on top of him.
Move it, Stinky! Balto said, and pushed the dead guy off of him. He grabbed the laptop and opened the lid. Alright! Battery is at 100%! That's... suddenly there was roar, the same type they had heard the previous night. The entire (part of the) plane jerked, and tumbled over onto it's side.
Jack burst out of the cockpit and shouted Run! Everyone complied. Quickly. Jack, Kate, Charlie, Balto, and Jenna all ran out. A tree behind them was ripped out of the ground. All five of them pointed an utterly different direction and all said in unison This way!
Back at the beach, the others were getting nervous. They had heard the roar, faintly, off in the distance. And the team that went to fetch the transceiver wasn't back yet. Adolf jumped up and said Thot does it! I'm tired of vaiting for those sissy Americans! I'm going to go out and find them!
He marched off into the woods.
Jenna was panicking. She was hiding under some brush from... from what, exactly? She hadn't even caught a glimpse of that thing. And where was everyone else? Something moved toward her shoulder. Then she was yanked up off the ground and hurled into the air. She flew up twenty-five feet and landed with a hard thud on a rock.
Balto was running with all the speed his legs would carry him. He stopped. He heard nothing. That was good, very good. 'That thing isn't after me anymore, I guess!' Then he heard a cry of pain. Jenna? He ran toward the direction of the shout....
Adolf was getting fed up with these lousy Americans! Send them to do a simple job like finding the front of a plane, and they weren't back yet! Never send an American to do a Germans job! Then he too heard Jenna's cry of pain. He instantly began running toward the sound.
Jenna lay down, unmoving. Her back had hit a rock after a twenty-five foot drop, and she didn't feel like moving. It hurt to even blink. The only good thing that had happened was the monster was apparently gone. She heard footsteps approaching.
Jenna? Jenna, are you okay?
Ouch... if it weren't for this pain going up and down my back, yes, I'm fine.
Vot is going on here? demanded Adolf.
That monster... whatever it was, it grabbed me and hurled me through the air. I landed on a rock.
If it had been a German in your position, he never would have allowed that to happen! shouted Adolf.
Look, shut up and get Jack! said Balto.
Vhy should I?
Balto glared at him. Remember our discussion on the plane?
Adolf shuddered. Oh. Oh ya. Okay. I'll go get Jack.
Several minutes later, Adolf returned.
I didn't find him. Sorry.
Dang. Okay, lead us back to the beach.
Okay. Ummm. Vhich vay is back to the beach?
What? How the bloody heck am I supposed to know? I spent the last half hour being chased by some monster that rips trees out by their roots! Youwere the one that came here from the beach!
I forget vhich direction I came from.
Arrgh! 'Never send a German to do an American's job.' thought Balto.
Look, said Jenna Let's just... ow... pick a direction and go that way. Adolf, how long did it take you to... ow... get here from the beach?
About ten minutes.
Then we... ooh... walk ten minutes in that direction, if we don't arrive at the beach, we come back and head another way. Sound good?
So they walked (Not Jenna though. Adolf and Balto had to carry her) for ten minutes (the wrong way). Finally, after getting nowhere, they reversed direction. Finally, they found the beach. But there was nothing there.
Huh. said Balto Maybe we should stroll around for awhile until we find everyone.
So they did. But they didn't find a thing.
Thisis der right beach, ya?
Yeah. said Jenna. I'm sure of it.
Balto spoke up. Guys... where's the plane?
Chapter 4
It had been two days since the plane had disappeared. Balto, Jenna, and Adolf had returned to the area where she was hurled into the air by the monster.
How does that sort of thing happen? asked Jenna. Almost fifty people and all the wreckage of the plane doesn't just vanish!
Do you think it's possible that ve just missed it?
I doubt it, Balto said It'd be pretty hard to miss something like that. Then it started to rain.
Suddenly, they heard the roaring again.
Run! shouted Balto.
He and Adolf took off running but they soon noticed Jenna wasn't following them.
I can't stand up! cried Jenna.
Adolf and Balto ran back to help her up, but Balto suddenly collapsed. In the past two days, Jenna's back had gotten worse, and, even worse, Balto's scar on his head and gotten infected. Bad. Now the pain he felt was excruciating.
Balto! Get up! yelled Adolf. The roar came again. The monster is getting close, and I can't carry both of you! I can't even carry Jenna alone!
The tree right next to him was ripped up.
Get Jenna! cried Balto. Leave me!
Adolf didn't hesitate. He ran forward, grabbed Jenna, threw her over his back, and ran.
He was running through the forest as fast as his legs would carry him. He heard the roar close behind him. His legs were hurting from the weight of Jenna on his shoulder. His foot hooked in a root protruding from the ground, and he fell face forward into the mud. The roar came again, very close. Adolf slowly rolled over and saw the monster right above him. It didn't look anything like what he had expected. It was merely a large cloud of black smoke. Still, it was fear-inspiring. Adolf kept expecting it to attack him, but it didn't. It just lingered above him, almost as though it were looking directly into his soul. It was. He began seeing bits of his memory flashing through the cloud. People he knew, himself, events, even the crash two days before. Then, the cloud turned and flew away.
Balto was laying on the ground, pain shooting through his head. He clutched his forehead. He had never felt such pain before. I need Jack he thought. If this goes a few more days unchecked, I'm going to die. I now I will.
Balto? Balto? he heard.
Adolf? Is that you?
Ya! Are you okay?
I'm fine. Never felt worse.
Adolf came through some brush.
What happened? Balto asked.
I saw the monster.
Youwhat?
I saw it. I tripped, and the thing just hovered over me. It was a big puff of black smoke. Then I began seeing things flashing through it.
Like what?
Memories. Memories that I have. I saw the day I got my first job, I saw the crash, I saw my mother... it was like it was searching my soul.
Creepy. Then what happened?
It left.
Wow. Where's Jenna?
I left her back where I tripped.
How's she doing?
She can't walk. She said she couldn't feel anything from her waist down. Then she lost consciousness.
Okay. Help me up.
Adolf grabbed hold of Balto's wrist and helped him stand up.
Show me the way. Balto said.
Adolf pointed, and they began walking. After three feet however, Balto fainted.
Crap.
When Balto finally woke up, Adolf had a fire going and was cooking some meat.
What's up? Balto asked.
The opposite of down, replied Adolf. I vould've thought you knew that.
Ha ha. What are you doing?
Making dinner. Ve're having stew. For meat ve have a boar I caught, and for the vegetable ve have a Hemerocallis Fulva.
A Hemerocallis Fulva? As in a Day Lily?
Thot's right.
But that's an Oriental plant. What's it doing here?
Don't ask me.
Jenna stirred.
She still out?
Ya. She hos been asleep for four hours.
How long have I been out?
Three-und-a-half.
Adolf continued stirring the stew.
You know, said Balto You don't really seem like the type that would know about wild edible plants.
I vas a botany teacher at a college for a couple years.
Huh. So what do you do now?
I work for a company located in San Diego.
Really? Me and Jenna were flying to San Diego to get jobs as pilots for a private jet.
Pilots? You two are pilots?
Yeah.
Is der man dot hired you named Steele Karrzon?
Yeah. How'd you know?
He vorks vis me!
What? What's going on? Jenna asked.
Hey, you're awake! Balto said.
Vould you like some dinner?
What is it?
Boar und Hemerocallis Fulva stew.
Huh?
Boar and Day Lily's. Balto said.
Huh?
After dinner, Balto decided they should map out the island. The next morning, they set out. Jenna's back hadn't gotten any better, so Balto and Adolf made sort of a makeshift stretcher. They climbed a massive mountain, clear to the top, so they could get a look at the rest of the island. When they reached the top, they could see everything! They saw the clearing where Jenna had been attacked, and when they looked around some more, they saw the beach where the plane had wrecked!
Vhat the... how did it show up again?
They were puzzled by this. They had clearly seen the beach where they had wrecked before, and there was nothing! Now it was back. Balto looked around some more. Then, he began laughing.
And just vot is so funny? demanded Adolf.
Look, said Balto, and he pointed. All we found was a beach that looked similar! Ha ha! If we had kept walking for five more minutes we would've found it!
Well let's go! said Jenna. If it's that close we can get to it in no time at all!
They began heading back down the hill, unaware they were being watched...
Whew! said Adolf Let's rest a minute!
Sounds good to me, said Balto. I'll find some water to drink. I'mreally thirsty.
He walked out of sight. Adolf started rubbing his ankles when he heard Balto shout. He jumped up and ran in the direction. He found Balto, who stood frozen in his tracks. He was staring at something. Adolf followed is gaze....
Hey! shouted Jenna. What's going on? I can't walk here, so it would be nice to be able to get some help! Finally she gave up. Men, she thought. Why can't they ever do anything? You have to hit them on the head and tell them exactly what to do. If God hadn't told Noah what to do, he would've prepared for the Flood by changing into a swimming suit! She hollered a few more times. Then she thought Never, ever send a man to do a woman's job.
Eventually, Jenna's shouting broke the spell Balto and Adolf seemed to be in. They went back to her, picked up her stretcher, and carried her over to where they had been. They set her down and pointed to what they had been fixated by. Jenna's jaw dropped. Well, yours would too if you saw a 14-ton, 17th century sailing vessel 11,000 feet above sea level.
Chapter 5
The name is The Black Rock. said Balto. He had gone to the back of it and read the name off the stern. It looks like it was a slave vessel.
Ya, I remember reading about this ship. said Adolf It vas sailing back from South America with slaves. She vos a Spanish slaver. She vos lost at sea during a storm.
I wonder what's inside? asked Jenna.
We'll check it out later, said Balto We need to get to Jack. With my head and your back the way they are, we need to make getting to the beach top priority.
I vote for staying and looking at it. said Adolf.
Me too. said Jenna.
Fine, said Balto. But promise me you'll make it quick.
Mein Fuhrer! Adolf shouted, and saluted German-style. Heil Hitler!
Oh, can it!
The went inside, and began looking around. They went down to the holds, and immediately recoiled. Skeletons littered the hold. Some chained to the hull, some just scattered randomly. Adolf, Balto, and Jenna all just stood in the doorway, staring.
You know, said Balto We're witnessing one of the greatest acts of cruelty of all time. Did you know that only half of the slaves would survive the trip? They would all be chained together, packed in like sardines. They didn't even have room to move. They would sit there for the duration of the trip.
Not even any bathroom breaks? Jenna asked.
No. They would sit there in their own one-month supply of crap. Almost all of those that died on the ship died of disease. He paused. Except these ones.
Adolf was the first to move out of the doorway into the hold. Balto followed. He and Adolf started looking around. Jenna saw a box beside her. She picked it up, opened the lid, and looked inside.
Hey, dynamite!
Adolf and Balto shrieked. Jenna had never heard men shriek like that before.
Put it down! Put it down! Adolf shouted.
Jenna began putting it down.
GENTLY! he shrieked.
After Jenna set it down, she asked Now what's so horrible about that box of dynamite?
Dynamite, began Balto Contains glycerin, and nitric and sulfuric acids. Essentially, it has stabilized nitroglycerin in it. However, when it sits in 90-degree weather for some time, it destabilizes, and becomes solid nitroglycerin.
If der box had bumped too hard vhen you sat it down, said Adolf You vould've been all over dis hold. I'm guessing there's some more of those boxes in here, so there vouldn't be a Black Rock anymore either.
They left the hold, and the ship, and continued on down the mountain.
Did you just growl? asked Balto.
Me? No. said Adolf.
They heard something in the forest.
Is it our friend, Smokey the Cloud? asked Jenna.
Suddenly something burst through the forest and began running toward them. It was a polar bear!
Oh come on! shouted Balto. What next?
I think running would be a good idea. said Adolf.
They turned and bolted. The polar bear was on their tail (literally!) all the way. They were running as fast as they could carrying Jenna's stretcher, but yet the polar bear still gained. They were about halfway down the mountain when the ground gave way beneath their feet. They fell fifteen feet down and landed hard on a hard surface.
Ow... I really did not need to do that again. said Jenna.
Balto looked up. The polar bear was staring down at them, but not following. Then Balto noticed. They hadn't fallen through ground at all. It looked like a metal hatch. He looked around at the walls. Metal. Attached to one wall there was a ladder. One wall opened up into a corridor. Then he heard a gunshot. Balto looked up and saw the polar bear stiffen and fall over. Then the hatch shut and gears began creaking. They were being locked in!
What's going on? thought Balto.
A little while later, Balto figured If we're stranded here with no way out, we might as well explore this place for a bit.
He and Adolf sat Jenna's stretcher down and looked around. It looked like the place had been abandoned quite some time ago. They found books, a computer, etc. It looked like people had lived here! There was even a TV with a projector. Soon, Adolf found a reel.
Ve might as vell see vot it is.
We don't have time for a movie!
You in a rush? Remember, ve're stuck down here! Ve have all der time in der vorld!
Fine. Watch your bloody movie.
Adolf hooked up the reel, and began the movie. Only, he discovered, it wasn't a movie. It was an orientation film for some company named the Dharma Initiative that owned the hatch. The hatch was part of an elaborate experiment to study the island they were on. Apparently, there were several other hatches, all for a different segment of the program.
Balto! shouted Adolf I think you'll vant to see dis!
Fine, fine, I'm coming!
When Balto watched it with Adolf, he was blown away. He got up and brought Jenna in so she could watch as well. The Oriental man that was narrating the film continued for some time about this particular hatches' job, the jobs of other hatches (the Swan, Pearl, Flame, Hydra, and Snake), and about the man who ran the company and the man who funded it, named Alvar Hanso. Then it got good. The man said Very very few people know this, but this island was a testing ground for an ancient and extremely advanced civilization. Their true name is lost forever, but legend knows them as 'Atlanteans.' While the island of Atlantis was located in the Atlantic Ocean, they had this island and the other nearby here in the Pacific to conduct experiments considered too dangerous to conduct on their home island. We call this island 'LOST'. That is an acronym for Land Of Scientific Testing. The Atlanteans had various projects going on here. For instance, they managed to breed many forms of animals and plants that had radically different natural habitats. They had polar bears and kangaroos, elephants, et cetera. However, their ultimate project, and eventually, their cause of destruction, was an incredible experiment called... Then the reel ended.
Chapter 6
Vhat? No!
Is there another reel?
No! This is the only reel they have here!
Balto looked at the reel and examined it closely.
It's been cut! he shouted.
Vhat?
Somebody cut the reel!
A woman ran through the forest. She was the one that shot the polar bear and then sealed the three people inside the hatch. Her name was Juliette.
Ben! she shouted when she made it to the camp. There's some people in the Diamond station!
What? asked Ben. Do you happen to know who they are?
Well, I assume they're survivors from that plane crash. They stumbled across the station while they were running from a polar bear.
Then what happened?
I shot the bear and locked the people in.
Tom! Assemble a team of twelve men and get those people out of the hatch before they find out too much information! Juliette, you're coming too.
Dang it! That reel is nowhere to be found!
I know, said Adolf Vhere could it be?
Balto and Adolf where searching everywhere they could. They had done everything short of rip up the floor.
Hey guys? shouted Jenna. Have you seen this?
Adolf and Balto walked over to what Jenna was pointing at. Imprinted on the wall was a small logo. It was an octagon with a series of three odd dashes below each side. Some were complete, some were broken in half. And in the very center was a picture of a diamond with the word 'DHARMA' printed over top of it.
What is it? Jenna asked.
The lines are the same symbols as the ones in the corner of the South Korean flag. said Balto.
Ya, they represent opposites and balance. Der lines are tri-grams used in Pa Kua. Der tri-grams describe der eight phenomena of der universe. Sun, Earth, Lake, Sky, Vater, Mountain, Thunder, and Vind.
So... what exactly does all that mean?
Vell, it could be...
Suddenly there was a loud clamor of the hatch opening. A dozen men quickly climbed down the ladder, and before Adolf, Balto, or Jenna could respond to any of this, they were surrounded by twelve men with .22s in their hands. Then a man with bug-eyes came forward.
You're coming with us.
Adolf, Balto, and Jenna were taken to another island nearby, and then Adolf was thrown into a large cage. Balto and Jenna were taken to a sorta-kinda hospital. Balto's head was treated, but the doctor had some not-so-good news about Jenna.
He back was broken. If we had gotten to her sooner, maybe we could have done something. But her back is broken for good. She'll never be able to walk again.
Jenna was put in a special room inside the compound they were in, and Balto was taken back to the cage Adolf was in.
Vhat happened?
They treated my head, but they say Jenna will never be able to walk again.
You need to get out of here. said a voice.
Balto and Adolf spun around and saw a teenager standing outside their cage.
Vhat did you say?
You need to leave. You need to escape. No matter what it takes.
Vhy?
Look kid, we need to know what's going on here. said Balto.
These people are trying to finish an experiment that never got completed.
Are you talking about the one that... destroyed the Atlanteans or something?
One and the same. The experiment was designed to protect them from anything that could hurt them. But it backfired.
What's this 'experiment'?
You might've seen it already. It basically looks like a cloud of black smoke.
Ya, ve've seen it. said Adolf.
How did it backfire? asked Balto.
They designed it to destroy dangerous people. Anyone that could serve as a threat to them, this black cloud would detect and destroy. Then it realized that the Atlanteans were conducting dangerous projects, ruining their own island and this one, so it sunk the island of Atlantis, and killed most of the people on this island too. Only our ancestors survived.
So you people are really descendants of the Atlanteans?
Yup.
One more question. How can we escape?
That night, Balto and Adolf made their escape, with the help of the kid (named Carl). They managed to find where Jenna was, and got her out.
Now there's one final step in escaping. said Carl. You need a boat.
Where can we get one?
Well, it's not quite that easy. You see, our ancestors wanted no one to be able to find their island. So what they did was, and I have no idea how, there is only one specific heading you can take to leave. Otherwise you go in circles, and always end up right back here.
What's the heading?
Hey! shouted someone. Who had a gun. What's going on?
Carl quickly turned to Balto, Adolf, and Jenna and said There's a boat hidden along the beach under a large bush. Find it quickly. I have the correct heading written on it. Go.
Without hesitation, the three of them ran.
Poor Carl, said Balto. He's probably getting put in our cage for this.
They found the boat (not exactly a sea-worthy vessel, but it worked) and got in it. Adolf and Balto laid Jenna in the middle and pushed the boat into the water. As they sailed away, Jenna said We can't leave all the other survivors. They're still stranded.
Well, we certainly can't fit them all in this boat. They'll get off eventually.
Meanwhile, back on the island...
Sayid Jarrah had gotten the transceiver to work, and him and a group of other survivors had climbed a mountain looking for signal. After they got some, Sayid tried sending a distress call. But it didn't get through. There was already a distress call in French being sent! Shannon grabbed the transceiver and held it to her ear. She translated the message.
Help me. They're all dead.
Guys... said Charlie Where are we?
THE END
