tokah was still tired so she went to sleep on the living room floor,but before she knew it her sister kita was already sitting there taking up the warmest spot right in front of the fireplace.''move it mutt'' tokah said to Kita,and she moved a bit.''Hey there tokah why are ya so mad this morning?'' ''I'm not mad!'' tokah said in a stearn voice ''I'm just tired from.....'' all of a sudden Kita and Tokah's mother walked down the stairs ''I know exactley what tired from Tokah'' said katie,Tokah moaned ''what?'' ''yes you were up all night doing somthing tonight you will go to sleep at a decint time ok'' katie said with a stearn face ''ok mom'' tokah said with a yawn. Kita an her mom went over to the food dish to eat.
That night when everyone was asleep tokah went into sasha's bed room and then she heared a dog named james howl he was a gorges dog he was one of the most poupular dog in nome.Tokah was suprised on how beutiful and fast he was.Later into the night tokah was starting to fall asleep but she was awoken by growling it was james growling at his old nemises zenon he was evil he was the bully of nome besides steel.Tokah ran down stairs into the living past her sister who was laying in her puple basket.Tokah ran outside and jumped in front of james and grabed zenon by the neck and threw him on the other dogs that were coming for james. All the other dogs got up and ran behind zenon who was snarling with his teeth showing.
"Get away from james NOW!!".Tokah said with a snarling face.
James was hurt badley he had a cut across his paws and leg he had some on his face too.Zenon refused to give up he went for james again but tokah go him by his back legs and threw him.After she threw zenon her sister came out the the escape root on sasha's bocaney and tokah told her to bring james behind a couple of trash cans.Thats exacley what Kita did and guarded him all the other dogs started coming but kita growled and barked so loud that they all scattered away.The sun was rising it was about 7:00 in the morning and it was starting to snow.
Katie was just getting up and she went to the window to get some fresh air but when she went out the door that lead to sashas balconey she could hear snarling barking and growling.Katie ran down the fire escape and ran in front of all of the dogs and she howled as loud as she could.After she stoped howling every thing went silent.every body was just looking at her all the bad dogs like zenon were shocked kita and tokah were just snarling at zenon and the other dogs.Katie was mad and so was kita and tokah they all looked at each other and howled. After they stopped tokah looked at them and said "get out zenon or else!'' ''ok!'' zenon said while shaking and within a minute zenon and his crew where out of there."Mom go get owner and bring her out here"tokah told her mother and her mom ran into the house as fast as she could.Within minutes sasha's mother was outside and had the phone to her ear and calling doc's owner.
doc and his owner john came to the house.Sasha's mother and john where talking, doc told katie and tokah that james needs to be brought into the house or else he could get sick and thats exacley not what he needs.After they brought james in, tokah got her blanket and put it on him.Doc took a look at him and then after about 4 or 5 minutes john looked up at them and said he's gunna be ok but hes going to need to be bandeged up and they will come off in about a week. after john put the bandages on him he told sasha's mother to call him if she thinks he's not doing better.That night when everyone was asleep tokah snuck downstairs to see if kita was asleep down there but luckely she was'nt even in there. not even her bed.She was in marshas room sashas mom.So tokah went over to see if james was ok but sadley he was'nt he was shaking rapidly then tokah saw that the blanket was'nt even on him so she covered him up.Luckely he stoped shaking a little bit but he was still shaking because the blanket was'nt big anough to cover his full neck so tokah laided down next to him cautisally and laid her head on his neck.That morning kita and Katie got up and walked down stairs but once she walked into the living room she was shocked with suprise tokah had her head on james's neck.
she woke tokah up and pulled her to the side''what were you thinking''?! "uh I was keeping him warm i came down here and saw that he was still cold he had the blanket on him it just was'nt big anough for him." "oh"kita said.Kita was embaresed for thinking different she had a secrent crush on james that she knew she coudent keep a secret for much longer.After a while james started to wake up he woke up to a beatiful sighte he just loved tokah since he saw her when she saved his life from zenon.He got up and tokah was coming from the kitchen with the water bowl and food dish.
"Thanks Tokah" james said with a grin,"your welcome james"tokah said while looking at him in a shy way.while Tokah and James where eating and drinking there fill they both axedentally went for the water dish at the same time and toched noses."Uh Oh mmmm..." Tokah said with rosie red cheeks ''i am so sorry um...."James said with the same look on his face.Why they were toching noses they started gazing into each others eyes.Why'll they were doing that Kita had just walked in to get her bone and when she turned around the corner she saw them and her jaw dropped.She knew she felt jelouse so she fell to the ground whippering.It roined the moment for james and tokah so james went over to help pick up kita and tokah felt like she knew something just was'nt right.And all of the sudden just as james was picking kita up kita nudged under his chin as if they had been mates for months.James noticed this and he backed away from kita as fast as he could."James uh.." Kita said in suprisment she thought that he would just start nudging back but she was wrong.
Tokah gave kita a dirty she thought to her self about how she felt about kita at the moment, "you dirty little rat"she thought silentlly.
"What did I do"!?Kita said with a mad but suprising face "you knew exactley what you did you just could'nt handel that me and james where having a moment could you"."What are you talking about crazy"!?!?"you dirty little rat'' said Tokah not noticing what she had said,"excuse me?" "you knew what i said you can't handel that he likes me and i like him because you like him huh". "You got to be kidding me." "Shut up you know you like him edmit it kita you like james and you can't hid it any more huh"!."OK I like him but ..." "But what kita you know that you can't hid it any more." "Fine then hey..." said kita. "what"? " I have an idea why don't we sedell this with a race i heard that theres gunna be that race tof ind the fasstest dogs for each sled team to get mre meds for the kids in the hospital try out alright." "ok" Tokah sid with a mad grin on her face."why cant i ever get any thing!'' thought tokah as she was walking into the kitchen pushing the food and water dish with her snout.
After 3 weeks or so the race to find the fastest dogs for the sled team was on kita and tokah had both won the first round and the person who anocced who won said it was a tie so both dogs will be in the race the croud went crazy.After they started to strap up kita got luckey she was the lead dog tokah was a little scared she had never lead anything...ever so she was scarred.After 5 or 4 minutes the bullet that told everyone to go flew up the sky making a beatiful assort ment of diffrent colors it was almost dark and you could see them nicely.The mushers said "YAA"!! and all the dogs bolted. Tokah turned her head back to see if james was there and there he sat looking at tokah mouthing ''good luck.....honey'' that made tokah have a warm feeling inside and made her go as fast as she could.
Kita saw that tokah was going faster and pushed her a little bit that made her make a wrong turn and headed into the forest.Kita had an evil grin on her face.Her team was full all the stuck up dogs that where usally seen with Kita .James saw what Kita had done. And he had a mad feeling inside him like if no one was watching he would rip her to to shreds he was so in love with tokah that he would do anything to protect her.After about and hour tokah and her team found them selves in front of a icey lake the onley way to get to nannana through the forest was across that lake in the summer it was a beatiful source of fresh crystal clean water but in the winter it was a death trap.Toka caustioselly took her first step on to the ice and heard it crackel a little bit.But she knew that she had to get that medecine to thouse children or they would die she had to get the medicine also because her beloved owner sasha was sick in the hospital waiting for the meds.Meanwhile...Kita and her team had been running for hours and where thinking ''danget why did we get ourselves in to this.''
Back where tokah was it was snowing hard and they had just gotten over the lake.Tokah knew that they had to hurry before those children lost hope. After about a day the snow had gotten harder and turned into a blizzared james was holding tokahs blanket and had gotten worried. Tokah had finnaly made it to nannana and got packed up but she was to late kita had already passed there but tokah did'nt care she just wanted those children better inclouding one of those kids was her owner sasha. Kita just wanted it for the etention. James had gone into the boiler room where doc had called a meeting,"kita has gotten lost" doc said looking at everyone with a sad look.
"hey what about tokah"!? james said "ah that mutt shes half wolf why worry about her when kita is lost shes our ONLY hope not the "WOLF" one of the dogs said.
"ya she just a wolf she'll never make it alive'' said another dog
"Well Balto made it alive and hes half wolf just like tokah and hes a hero and you all know it"! everyone went silent.James walked out of the room looking back saying
"she'll make you just wait and see". James ran to Balto boat house to tell him the bad news that tokah was lost. But he was'nt there James knew what he had to he had to go find tokah.Kita was on her way home she knew that she would win the heart of james if she won the race."Get moveing idiots i have my futer husband to get home to" Kita said looking like a hero but she had too stop for a minute she could'nt see any futher the wind was so strong that the snow was going everywhere a dog behind kita said "Where lost kita" "NO WHERE NOT I know where i'm going its ...uh ...this way....come on!" and kita took a wrong turn that lead her onto a steep ice slope that caused her and her team to tumble down her musher hit his head and made him hit the ground first along with all the other dogs.
"What are we supposed to do kita?" but kita did'nt answer she was shaking and looking around like she had no clue what to do,hopefully some one would see the shining light of the lantern that lead them in the dark.Meanwhile tokah was so coled and so tired her musher was suffering from hippethermia and needed to get to a hospital but did'nt want to stop.back in nome james was running around looking for balto to see if knew where tokah was "baltos the only one that can catch her scent in the wind"james said with a determind face.suddenly balto ran into james the both hit the ground 'there you are" they both said at the same time,"balto I've been looking for you every where your the only one that can find tokah your a hero!" "James..." Balto said trying to shut him up."Your awsome you know everything.."james said "James..."balto said again "you know everything there is to know you can smell you can..." "JAMES"! balto said knowing that would shut him up.''Hold on there what are you talking about kid?'' balto said laughing "tokah is in her house" balto said but all of a sudden Katie ran over to the 2 boys and told them that "I was over by the radio station and i heard that the blizzared is getting worse and both sled teams are lost''Katie said with a tear rolling down her cheek,"dad" Katie said as if she was a helpless puppy "There helpless against that blizzard there still young".James was scared of what katie had said it was just like what his mother said before she got hurt by his dad, james's dad had no afection and gave no love to his children he only cared about himself and girls he was a jerk.James knew he had to do somthing before the blizzared got to bad."James and balto'' katie said sighing and looing down.'' i have to go and get my children there going to get hurt out there and.."said katie "NO katie i won't let you do that your my child and i wont let you get hurt"Balto said but at that point jeena broke in "Balto you have to get tokah and kita there gunna get hurt out there in the cold wind ok"jeena said looking at balto.
"Jeena your right but i can't do it alone i need sombody to come with me to get tokah i won't be abel to catch both of them before frost bite strikes them". "I"ll do it!"james said everyone looked back at him "What no you cant you'd have to risk your life"Balto said "Ya and your to young sweetie"Katie said.But within minutes James heard someone say "James"! it was james mother crystal she had a scratch on her eye and a little bandage on her leg from the fight she had with jason james dad."Sweetie what is this i hear that you whant to go find tokah with balto"? Crystal said while she was looking at her son,"Yes mom I do "james said feeling like it was'nt a secret anymore.
"James you would be risking your life and.." but James inturupted her "Mom i know and i would do any thing for her"James said looking at his mom,Jeena, and Katie ''what should i do"? They started talking within a minute Crystal turned around walked over to balto and james and told balto to be carefull they were puppy hood friends ''And james'' crystal said ''hears some advice follow your heart''."Thanks mom". James said while jenna and balto where telling each there goodbyes.
They where off "Come on pup were running out of time and they can't hold on much longer"Balto said looking scared."Oh hold up james im going to go this way" balto said and Balto stoped for a moment and sniffed the air and your going that way balto said pointing his paw the way he was going to go.James started running "James" Balto said James stoped he tured his head back to see what balto wanted "Be carfull kido"Balto said looking at james as a friend "I will Balto!'' James said looking at balto.Off james whent to go and find his true love."Tokah wait stop!'' one of the dogs said as they all started tumbling down they all yelled ''AHH!!'' tokah stuck out her claws and got a good grip on the ground she started pulling every one up.But at the moment the all hit solid ground the medicine was starting to unwrap she jumped out of her harness and grabbed the medicine just in time. "Nice job tokah yeah your awsome'' every one said but tokah heard some cracking she looked down, and then at the team she flet herself sinking ''AHHH UH!!'' she yelled as she heled onto the meds she hit the ground.
Her body was starting to be covered by the snow she cried.But as she lifted her head up she saw a white figure above her she watched as it howled. Her eyes widened and she whispered ''grand mother?'' she smiled the white wolf nodded her head.Tokah lifted her body up with all her strenth she stepped in the same pawprint the wolf made she then put her head to the ground picking up air she then lifted her head up and let out a great howl.The wolf howled along with her as the wolf dissaperead, tokah remebered what her father had told her ''a dog can not make this journey alone, BUT maybe a wolf can!'' tokah smile and grabbed the medicine she then started climbing up the cliff. Once she got to the top the team lifted her up ''just like her dad aint he guys?'' tokah felt great she then walked into her harness she smiled and bolted off into the forest. ''Come on team lets go!!'' they ran even faster. By the time they got into town Kita was already there and the medicine was though Tokah smiled as she saw James but then she saw Kita sitting next to him she frowned and slowed down once they got to the post.She was getting unstrapped and then she walked over to James ''hi'' she said looking at the ground ''hi!'' james said loking at her, the whole crowd cheering for her. Kita walked over to Tokah ''well now we know who won the heart of him, huh? Kita snarled while walking over to james. Tokah smiled as she saw her parents ''Hunny!!'' balto and jeena both said. Tokah and her parents had their alone time and then she walked back over to james. ''get out of here!!'' Kita growled james looked as if he was about to explode.
Tokah snarled ''ok i supose you won fare and square......'' Kita smiled and kissed james. James pushed away. Tokah growled ''but wait!'' she said putting her body between James and Kita ''ok but even tho you won lets let james deside who he loves'' Tokah growled. Tokah and Kita sat next to each other. Tokah had her head down with tears i her eyes knowing she was'nt good enough for him. Kita smiled and winked at James. James rolled his eyes he sighed ''ok i choose...'' at that moment every thing felt as if it went silent fireworks were about to go off.''i choose!....'' she smiled and then said ''kita!'' tokah cried but then smiled as James said ''Get away from me and if you ever come in spitting distance of tokah ill rip you to shreds he said winking at Tokah. ''you dont know what your loosing she said as a dog walked over to her ''hey uh....'' a dog named mckinley said ''you wanna go and watch the fireworks with me?'' he said acting very shy Kita smiled at her sister and walked awa with mckinley. As the fireworks let off Tokah kissed James as if it was just for their moment they watched it together on a small hill. Tokahs head was on james's shoulder. James head on Tokahs.
But one special 3 letter word seemed to light up the night those word were ''i love you'' that word seemed to light up the night even more. Many fireworks lite up the night sky they both smiled. An assortment of many colors let off in the sky as they kissed again.
