(It has no chapters, cause it's supposed to be kind of like a movie I guess...just scenes. I'm so weird, lol.)
I hope you enjoy it, I worked hard!
May have violent and bloody content...a love scene, and minor cussing. The reason I say 'may', is because I have no idea what I'm writing, I just do it and don't plan. Because Dusty is kind of evil, the reason is that I don't like her. And I don't like Aleu either.

Scene 1-He Hit Me
Shila raised her head, and opened her eyes. As her vision cleared, she scented Suka was coming back in the cave. The large brown wolf shook the rain from his pelt. As he passed her, Shila scented something that clung to his pelt...The scent she had before she had her own pups. This alerted her, and made her jumps to her paws. Shila knew that Suka and her had been drifting apart...but she never thought he'd leave her for someone else.
"Where have you been? WHO have you been with?" She growled loudly, but was thankful her pup, Emma, was asleep in a chamber far from this part of the cave.
Suka flattened his ears. "Nowhere! Don't you trust me?"
"No," Shila growled flatly, "I don't. You've been sneaking off for days, and when you come back...You smell like...her."
He shook his head. "I don't sneak off, Shila. I just...go for a walk." He lashed his black tipped tail.
Shila snarled disbelievingly. "Yeah, right. You mean a moonlit walk with another girl."
That caught his attention, and he stepped forward, curling his lip. "Guys like me...have certain needs, Shila.."
Shila spit at him. "Needs? You're sick with them, then!" She growled at him and flattened her ears. "I'm your mate, you can't treat me like-"
Suka lost his temper, and he hit her face with his paw. She flew backwards onto the stone floor. When she looked up, the side of her face was bloody and she was looking at him in horror. He had never hit her before...
His hackles raised, and he leaned down to whisper in her ear. "Look hon, if this is going to work out, you're going to have to keep your mouth shut."
He raised his paw again when Shila didn't speak. "You hear me? You're gonna tell nobody, or you go."
She shivered and slowly nodded, her eyes wide. He snorted. "Good. Now I'm gonna go back, and I'm gonna enjoy my night off. Unless you'd like to be the girl I'm staying with?"
Shila quickly shook her head, and he must have got a kick out of that. He turned away and left the cave. Shila got up on her paws. What am I going to do...?
She started to pace, and tried to climb through another tunnel that lead outside. She heard someone bark, and she quickly jumped back. Suka's neck fur was bristling. "You going somewhere?"
The black wolfdog shook her head. "No, not anymore."
He clawed the stone floor. "Where were you going?"
"I wanted to see if the rain had cleared up, so I could go hunting. We're in need of some food...Emma doesn't drink milk anymore, and she needs some meat for breakfast tommorrow." Shila lied. She was-sadly-a good liar, and had been all her life. She never used it for bad reasons, thankfully, and she came up with excuses quick.
He nodded, partly convinced, and left for real this time. She hung around, and waited about an hour before she was sure he was gone. Whenever he left, he didn't come back until many hours later...and once it had been three days.
She shook all over, and let her head lean on a stone wall. She cried...This was unusual for her, and she couldn't stop. She had grown up around three brothers, and no sisters. It had toughend her up, and she rarely ever cried.
She left and went into Emma's chambers when she finally calmed down another hour later. She lied down beside the black wolf pup, and cuddled next to her. Emma curled up in joy, and snuggled closer to her mother. They soon fell asleep.
Scene 2-Enough
Over the next few days, Emma was beggining to walk and talk. She was learning so much, and her father was out all day and half the night with whoever he was getting his 'needs' from.
Shila was getting sick of it, and fast...
Scene 3-Get Out
Suka was circling Shila as she tore into her rabbit. Emma was toying with a mouse in the corner of the chamber. "I'll see you later then?" Shila didn't respond, and he flattened and ear, and nudged her.
"Hey, come on..."
Shila jerked around and looked him in the face, throwing her rabbit halfway across the room. "Stop it, ok? Look, I caught you! And I really don't think it's right for you to be putting me in this position, Suka!"
He jerked his head back, and stepped away. She advanced on him, growling. Emma looked up from the corner, close to tears.
"I won't be treated this way, not anymore, you hear?! I've had enough!"
He snarled and started to lunge at her. She was prepared, she had been for days, and leapt out of the way. He hit the wall, and staggered to his paws. "Don't make me do this, Shila..." He had blood running down his face, where Shila had lashed out at him as he passed.
"Why not? You could only hit me when I wasn't expecting it, right? Is that it?" She was leaping from paw to paw, itching for a fight now.
That got him. He lunged at her and they bowled into each other. They tumbled around the chamber, and she finally kicked him away. She got to her paws, blood pouring down her sides. She ran towards Emma, and picked her up by the scruff.
Emma was crying now, and shaking. Shila ignored this, and headed for the tunnel. She climbed through, and the last thing she saw before she got out was Suka recovering, and his stare burned into her memory forever.
She ran into the blizzard outside, and headed forward, keeping to the shadows. She went all through the night, and by morning the blizzard had stopped. She set Emmad own, and nuzzled her.
Emma shook, and spoke for the first time since yesterday. "I'm sad, mommy."
"Me too, Em...Me too..." They walked side by side into the open fields.
Scene 4-Welcome to Nome
Shila entered a small town early the next morning. Emma was asleep on her back, and Shila was staggering from her wounds...She was sure they were getting infected. To make matters worse, it was raining.
She finally collapsed in the snow. Just resting...Suddenly, a few dogs came into her blurry view. She blinked away the rain, and looked up. She jumped to her paws, and Emma shook herself awake, standing in the snow. She tucked her tail between her legs and stood near her mother.
Shila flattened her ears. A large golden/tan dog headed towards her, and tipped his head to the side. He muttered something to one of his buddies, and a few more dogs headed out of their homes through their dog doors. Shila lowered her head, neck fur bristling.
Soon, she heard them all growling at her, but some remained unsure, and some sympathetic.
A brown scruffy wolfdog pushed his way to the front. He looked at Shila. "Are you ok, miss?"
Shila blinked, and saw a red/white husky pad to the brown wolfdog's side. She gasped at Shila's condition, and turned to her companion. "Balto, look at her. She need our help."
Shila felt numb. She was standing infront of the most famous dog of all Nome...She'd only heard him mentioned a few times, by wolves passing through who stopped to ask permission to use her cave for the night. She had let them, and as payment, they told stories about Balto.
Balto took a step forward. "What is your name?"
She controlled herself, and took a breath. "Shila...My name is Shila."
Balto nodded and padded closer. "Would you like for us to help you?"
Shila nodded back. "Yes, please...If you could just find us a place to stay for a while." She moved her bushy tail out from infront of Emma, revealing her pup's unhealthy condition.
Balto turned to the red husky. "Jenna, go to the boat and get some blankets ready." Jenna took off as fast as she could, and a dog who looked similar to her padded forward.
"Let me help too, Dad." He blinked in a friendly way at Shila.
Balto flicked his ears. "Ok, Kodi. Let's get her to the boat."
Kodi padded forward and let Shila lean on him, limping after Balto, while he held Emma gently by the scruff.
Soon, they arrived at an old boat by the beach. The red husky was waiting by it, and ran forward to take Emma from Balto. She climbed onto the boat, and headed to a room inside it. Kodi nudged Shila forward, and she went on ahead after Jenna.
Jenna had lain Emma down on a soft blanket. The husky looked up at Shila. "Welcome to Nome," She said gently.
Scene 5-Through Kodi's Eyes
Balto looked at Kodi. "What do you suppose happened to them? Shila looked pretty beat up."
Kodi shrugged. "Whatever it was, they're in trouble. I can tell..." From the moment he saw her eyes, he knew something was bothering her.
Balto blinked and went on after Jenna. Kodi followed, wondering what happened to the two wolfdogs they had taken in.
The black female dog was standing up infront of Jenna. She looked quite embarassed with Jenna fussing over her and the pup. "It's ok...We just need to stay for the night."
Balto smiled. "It's alright, you can stay as long as you have to. Don't worry about it." He padded over and sat beside Jenna.
Kodi lingered in the doorway...Something was not right, Shila looked distressed and nervous, worse than any dog should ever be.
Shila flattened an ear, and shuffled her paws. "That's...very kind of you. Thanks."
Kodi couldn't help but notice how beautiful she was. Wolfdog or not, she was like a pure bred husky through his eyes.
Suddenly Kodi felt another dog by his side. He turned and looked at his brother, Dingo.
"Just had to come and see if it was true," He exclaimed.
Kodi tipped his head. "If what was true?"
"If there was another wolfdog besides us in town." Dingo muttered.
It was true, they were the only wolfdogs around. The rest were either scared of wolves or dispised and wouldn't go near them. It was no wonder, they were the only ones who weren't racist.
Dingo nudged Kodi. "Dusty better watch out, this one's cute." He whispered, and laughed.
Kodi flattened his ears and curled his lip at his brother. He looked away, embarrassed as the new dog. Kodi stood up and left the boat.
Dingo came out after him. "I'm just kidding," He laughed. His smile faded when Dusty walked up with Aleu. They looked like they were having a good chat. "Er..maybe I'm not kidding, then."
Kodi lashed his tail. What was Aleu doing back here? He never did get on well with her, she had too much pride, leading a wolf pack and all.
Aleu stopped talking as she saw their expressions. "What's wrong?"
Dusty stopped as well, and sat down. "Kodi?" She noticed how bothered he looked.
Kodi searched for something to say, but he was saved when Balto stepped out of the boat.
His father looked suprised, and came down to greet Aleu and Dusty. "Aleu? Shouldn't you be back home?"
Aleu shrugged. "I...I'm having a day off." She looked troubled, and Kodi didn't by the story. Something wierd was going on, but then again, Alue had always been a wierder one.
Dusty broke the silence. "So, is it true about the new dog?"
Kodi's neck fur bristled. "Does it matter whether she's part wolf or not?"
Dusty pulled back. "No...I was just curious." She looked quite hurt.
"Maybe you should just lay off for a while, then."
Dingo seemed to be enjoying this, but Balto looked almost outraged. He flicked his ears at Kodi. "Come here," He growled.
He took him over to a spot far from where the others stood. Kodi looked back and saw Dusty run off, and Alue followed her. Dingo lingered around, and waited for Kodi to return.
Balto turned around and stopped walking. "Son," He sighed, "I thought you said things were going great with you and Dusty!"
Kodi shrugged. "Well...They're ok, I guess."
Balto smirked a bit. Kodi resisted a snarl; his parents had always rooted he and Dusty to be together, while Kodi didn't really feel anything for anyone anymore, not since Saba died.
His sister, Saba, had been hit by a car last year. None of the siblings had gotten over it, except Aleu. She had enough to worry about. Dingo had been heartbroken, and Kodi was the same. But atleast Kodi didn't go looking for trouble like his brother did now.
Balto sat down. "I don't mean to be like that...I just worry."
"I know, Dad." Kodi sighed.
"I guess you'd better get ready for the mail run?" Balto asked.
Kodi turned around and without another word, headed towards the shack that the sled dogs were kept in.
Balto followed. "Hey, I've got an idea!"
Kodi faced him curiously. "What?"
Balto smiled. "Well...If Shila feels well enough, you could ask her to help out with the team, right?"
Kodi thought for a moment. "Kirby is sick, so I guess it would be ok if my owner says so."
Kodi's father nudged him forward. "Go ahead and ask her then."
Kodi flattened his ears, and walked back to the boat nervously. Dingo ran over to his side, and bothered him until Kodi told him what had happened.
Dingo snorted, "I bet she's the worse sled dog ever! I mean, look at the condition she's in."
Kodi shrugged and stopped outside the boat for a moment. "Who knows? Dad's the best there's ever been, and maybe Shila is going to be real good too."
"So that's her name?"
"It's what she said," He replied.
"Well," He stuttered a bit, "She is kinda cute, I'll give her that."
Kodi laughed and walked on inside the boat.
Scene 6-Mail Run
To his suprise, Shila had gotten almost over excited at the thought of racing on a mail run. So Jenna took over taking care of Emma for a day. And to his suprise again, his owner let Shila take a spot right beside Kodi, in the front.
He could help it, but he began to almost growl aloud when a few of the dogs in the back began wolf whistling at her. Shila just ignored them and acted like she was first class. After a while, the dogs got bored and let her be.
Dusty, right behind Kodi, was growling loudly every now and then. Kodi was just about to turn around and snap at her, until his owner walked out and stepped on the sled.
When he yelled the one word, they all took off so suddenly, Dusty yelped and had to catch up with some effort.
Shila was running so hard, the musher had to tell her to slow down a bit so the rest could catch up. A few of the females who had dispised her as she got her harness on, started cheering for her.
Kodi got a bit jealous, because his owner was starting to cheer for her too. On their first stop, he put her in the very lead. Dusty was now right where she wanted to be, beside Kodi.
Kodi rolled his eyes. They used to be so close...what had happened between them? Then he remembered; Saba's death.
Though Kodi was slightly growling, Dusty kept leaning towards him at every stop, flattening her ears in a sign of affection. Anyone could tell that he wasn't in the mood, but she didn't pay any mind.
Shila was getting uneasy. Did these two lovebirds always act like this?
She kept glancing back at the two, and accidentally let Kodi catch her eye. He tried to shrug, and looked like he was on the edge of standing Dusty.
Shila had to hold in a laugh, and instead blinked at him in a friendly way.
Did she just smile at me? Kodi wondered. And suddenly, the thought made him wag his tail very fast.
A dog behind him barked, "What's up, Kodi?" The dog raised his eyebrows at Dusty, obviously thinking Kodi liked her.
Kodi growled under his breath. After the next few stops, Kodi could barely stand Dusty. She was smothering him like crazy! What was her deal?
When they were on their way home, Kodi was busy admiring Shila...And he couldn't help himself from it too. It just came automatically, and unexpectedly. He caught Shila's eye and saw her blush. She turned the other way, trying to hold one in as well, and pretended to admire the scenery.
It went on like that most of the run home, and Dusty was starting to bristle all over.
Dingo, who had joined the team recently, was tipping his head in confusion. He had no idea who liked who, and no one was laughing at his cracks and jokes. This just wasn't his day.
Finally, it was a bit after lunch when their team got to stop for the day, and let another take over. Kodi's owner took off their harnesses, and let them all hang out in the warm barn while he got the other dogs ready for their musher, who was running a bit late.
Shila lay down on a large pile of hay near the ceiling, and was having a nice chat with Dingo.
Kodi looked at the two in amusement; Dingo never made friends that fast.
Shila must be some girl...he thought unconciously.
He soon found himself in a much better mood...and started turning his thoughts toward Dusty. Without even knowing it, he was begginning to imagine things that would have made him barf before.
Then something occurred to him. Dusty must have planned it all along, with smothering him practically all day. It was just her scent taking over his body, nothing was really happening.
But he started thinking more about her, and less about Shila. He got so sidetracked he stayed there until the afternoon, and most of the dogs had gone home. Shila was still talking with Dingo, and Dingo was practically treating her like an old best friend.
Scene 7-A Night Never To Forget
When it was just those three and about two more dogs who were sidetracked by playing tug of war, Kodi began to get bored.
He yawned and put his head on his paws, thankful to be in the shadows. But then he felt someone gently tugging on his ear. He looked up and saw Dusty.
For the first time in a year, he wagged his tail at her appearance. She blinked her eyes, and Kodi was lost in their beautiful depths.
She left the barn, and Kodi snuck after her. Outside, it was dark already and they began to play like young puppies. When they headed for the boiler room, everything went downhill.
Kodi woke up, and felt warmth surround him. He blinked open his eyes, and nearly yelped as the thoughts of last night ran into his mind. He saw many images, but he could barely remember how, and why, it all happened.
He turned over to see Dusty asleep next to him. He jumped to his paws, and felt numb. He couldn't have done what he thought he had...could he?
He remembered a few things, like both of them bowling into each other, just playing...and then they stopped, and began to do something different. He shook his head, and whimpered aloud.
Kodiak ran.
Scene 8-Terrible Thoughts
He ran into the shack where the sled dogs where supposed to be getting ready for the mail run. Gone. Left without he and Dusty.
Though they all probably guessed what happened, and surely Dusty would tell her girl friends all about the...experiance.
He ran to the only place left he could think of, and the place where he would be in so much trouble-the old boat. His Dad would know what to do!
But then he skidded to a halt. Shila would be there, with her pup. How was he going to speak to him with those two there?
Images of the dreadful future drove into his head. What if Dusty had puppies? He'd be stuck with her for life...with pups he didn't even want. Sure, he'd love them and take care of them, but it also meant dealing with Dusty.
Then a terrible thought occured.
What if Dusty had merely used him the entire time?
He shook his head again and just wandered around town for a while.
He was so dead-he was supposed to have taken Shila home. But spending an entire night with Dusty had taken care of that. Thankfully, Dingo had probably taken her back.
He raised his head. Where could Dingo have taken her?Home with him? Or back to the boat? He shook his head again, growling at himself. All these terrible thoughts...
Scene 9-The News Spreads
Shila yawned and stretched. She looked down at Emma, who was still sleeping soundly.
Shila looked out the old window of the boat, wondering about Kodi. He'd been gone a few days...Was he ok? Had something bad happened? She also had heard Dusty was gone. All she knew was that Balto and Dingo had agreed that they'd go look for him, and that she should stay home and rest.
Jenna padded by her side. "Something wrong?"
Shila sighed and put her head on the windowseal. "Just worried, like the rest of you."
"I'm sure Kodi's fine," Jenna nodded. Shila could tell that she was worried too, she could see it in her eyes.
That's when they heard the barking. Both dogs looked back out the window, and saw Dusty pacing outside the boat, while Aleu was skidding around the front of the boat, and finally halted under the window.
"I'd geeeet out here if I were you, Mom! We've got news!" She wagged her tail happily.
Jenna exchanged a glance with Shila, and they went outside.
Dusty was flattening her ears, looking somewhat embarassed.
Jenna ran forward, flattening her ears as well, but in small action of anger. "Dusty! Where have you been? The whole sled team has been looking for you, and Shila has had to take over both you and Kodi's spots!" Jenna looked outraged, and Shila sat down.
"By the way, where is Kodiak?" Jenna growled. "I want to have a nice, long talk with-"
"He's just confused." Dusty muttered, and looked up.
"Why?" Jenna wondered, and started softening up.
Alue jumped up in the air. "Oh, go ahead and tell them before I do, Dusty!"
Dusty hesitated, and finally looked up. "I think I'm...I think I'm going to have Kodi's puppies."
Alue was the first to speak after a deadly silence. "Well, aren't you going to congratulate her?"
Jenna thought for a moment. "That's...wonderful, Dusty. Congratulations!" Then she seemed to make sense of what she'd just said, and wagged her tail. "I'm happy for you."
Shila merely nodded, partly in confusion. The two had seemed angry at each other not long before...what had changed their minds?
Not only was this confusing, it was heartbreaking. Shila had actually grown attatched to Kodi in that one sled ride. But then again, she'd also grown that way to Dingo too.
Dingo seemed as ready as ever to declare his feelings for Shila, but Shila just didn't feel any sparks between them. To her, they were best friends. To Dingo, they were more, much more.
While the family went inside to celebrate, Shila could control herself no longer and ran off to search for Kodi, or Dingo, or just anyone who she could talk to.
She went down the alleyway. She had picked up Kodi's scent, and it led to here. She sniffed the air again, but couldn't seem to pick anything else up anymore. She was getting tired.
Finally, she sighed and let her tail droop to the snowy ground. Shila sat down, and pondered some thoughts for a while.
Even if she did find Kodi, what was she going to say? It wasn't like they could spend all their time together...especially if he was a father-to-be.
She lay down on the ground and put her head on her paws. Just then, a wolfdog padded infront of her and sat down. She looked up, and saw Kodi.
Shila jumped to her paws. "Kodi!" She exclaimed.
Kodi smiled. "Hi..." Soon his smile faded. "I suppose Dusty told you?"
"Yeah, she came by this morning. Alue was siked." Shila replied calmly.
Kodi jumped to his paws and padded further towards her, looking a bit nervous. "Listen, I need to know and I need to know now. Do you feel...something between us?"
Shila couldn't lie, and nodded slowly. "Something stronger than I've ever felt."
"Can...When can I see you again? I mean, alone, without everyone staring at us." Kodi flattened his ears.
Shila thought for a moment...was this right? In truth, she knew it wasn't. But she loved Kodi...didn't that make it right? "I suppose we can meet at that old cave you showed me the other day."
There was a nice, cool, private cave up and a few miles away from Nome.
"Great! Can...can I meet you tonight?" He shuffled his paws.
"Sure, Kodi-" She broke off when he put his muzzle to hers. When he stepped back-after what seemed like minutes-he was smiling and his gaze was softened.
Shila smiled back, and nuzzled him quickly. Then he left, and she sat there, gathering her thoughts. After a while, she got up and headed home.
Scene 10-Pregnant, Distracted, and Lonely
Over the next few weeks, Shila and Kodi met every night. Kodi used the excuse everytime he had a break from the sled-team. Shila did it whenever she could, using the excuse that she really liked this river where she could gather her thoughts.
Everyone bought it, and so far, everyone was happy.
All but Dusty and Dingo.
Dingo tried many times to catch Shila's attention, but it never worked. She was always too busy taking care of Emma, or joking around with Kodi. He didn't get it...
Kodi was a father to be, and Dingo was free and a real sweet, cocky dog.
So what did Kodi have that he didn't?
Dusty was getting angrier and angrier, as she pups inside her began to grow. Kodi was spending too much time with Shila, and the truth would come soon enough...Soon, Kodi would be stuck with her.
One day, when she was near to having pups, she padded over to Dingo's house. She scratched on the door, and Dingo poked his head out of the dog door.
"What is it, Dusty?" He yawned, and stepped out onto the front porch.
Dusty shuffled her paws, looking pitiful. "It's Kodi...I think he doesn't love me anymore...He likes Shila way better."
Dingo felt sorry for Dusty, but anyone could tell that Kodi liked Shila...
The thing was, Shila acted like she couldn't stand not being around Kodi. Kodi however, tried to hold his feelings in. But when Dingo saw how they looked at each other...it made his skin crawl.
"I'm sure he loves you too-" He began.
"But that's not it, Dingo!" Dusty finally cried, breaking in.
"He's been sneaking off every night and I don't see him anywhere else but on the mail runs!" She sat down and looked at her paws, tears running down her cheeks.
Dingo was shocked. "You mean...?" His brother was most likely cheating on his pregnant mate? That didn't make Dingo very proud at all.
"I-I came here to ask if you could find out if they really are...you know." She sniffed.
Dingo thought for a moment, and never replied. He left her on the porch.
Scene 11-Forbidden Meetings
Dingo saw Kodi slip out of his house, and look around to see if he was being watched. Dingo had hidden himself perfectly, so when Kodi went, Dingo followed.
He waited in the trees while Kodi sat outside an old cave, many miles from Nome. Dingo prayed in his heart that his brother wasn't doing what he thought he was...
Then Shila turned up, and Dingo's heart broke when she nuzzled Kodi.
They entered the cave, and Dingo stepped out from the trees. He sat down in the snow, and stayed until he was quite numb.
His dreams...hopes...had all been crushed. Kodi was breaking the law, and Shila wasn't making it any easier.
What am I to do? he thought.
He could turn them in easily, and then Kodi would have a choice; he could die trying to stay with Shila, or spend the rest of his life with Dusty.
But Dingo wasn't like that. Though he may have been jealous, he would never get Shila, or his brother, hurt.
He finally stood up, and slowly padded home. His paw pads hurt, but he ignored the frozen pains.
When he got to Nome, it was nearly dawn, and someone was waiting for him.
With the whole family.
END OF EPISODE.
