Longing Hearts

Will you please come home?

I would give everything

if I could only know

that you are alive.

It’s tearing me apart.

What if you won’t come home?

What if all is lost and you are gone?

I close my eyes

and see your face.

It’d be too much for me to find out that you died today.

You are so close

and yet so far.

No matter what you’ll be here in my heart.

Everything is lost.

They’ll die because I failed

to do what I was called to do—

to save my friends.

I don’t know if I’ll live,

I don’t know if I’ll die,

But I know I must get home to you.

They said I wouldn’t live,

that I would never succeed.

They told me all was lost,

but I still live.

And I will lift my voice

as I cry out to you:

“Wherever you are, I’m coming home!”

Wherever I look

I see your face

I know that you are there, still waiting for me to return.

And I know you

are deep inside me.

Soon I’ll be coming home to be with you.

Suddenly I hear a shout.

I look through the  window.

I see you walking up

and I rush out.

Now you’ve come home again

to be with me forever.

No matter what, I’ll never leave your side.

I close my eyes

and see your face

and I know nothing can ever hope to tear us apart.

I look up at the sky

and see the beautiful stars

hovering over us, a sign of love.

No matter what, you’ll be here in my heart.
