Hamish blinked open his eyes to warm sunlight shining through the window. He stretched and pushed open the door. Outside, a cool breeze ruffled his fur. The morning sights and smells flooded through him. The baker's fresh bread, the huskies yipping for their owners, and the migrating geese honking in the distance. Hamish took a step off the porch and onto the snow. A chill crept up his spine. He took another step. And another. And another. Soon, all four paws were on the ground. Everything in Hamish's world suddenly stopped. His heart beat once, twice, and OFF he sprang. The world rushed back into him as he pranced about letting morning energy race out of his body. He skipped away from town and flopped down on a hill- the softest, warmest hill of snow. The town smells and sights faded away and Hamish closed his eyes. He layed there for a few seconds thinking of his life and how it could improve. He thought of his mail job and of his best friends before going to sleep. The last thought that clung to his mind was what it would be like to have a mate. Right now, even with friends, he felt lonely. After clearing his mind and going to sleep he felt something warm touched is body- like fur. He stiffened and slowly opened his eyes. A black body was right next to him! He jumped up swinging his head around. "Hush, hush." came the body's remark. Hamish cocked his head. The body stood up and Hamish could make out a wolf. "My name is Kia." she said. "And your's?" "Oh, um.... Hamish." Hamish stuttered, captured by her beauty. "Follow me." she said an pranced down the side of the hill. Hamish followed. The two walked for a few hours, admiring eachother and speaking kind words. They soon fell in love. Eventually, they stopped at the edge of some woods. "In here." Kia said beckoning with her tail. Yet again, Hamish followed. A dark scent flooded over Hamish's body as he entered the woods. "Kia! Kia...." he called. There was no reply. Suddenly, a huge body flung itself onto Hamish. "You stay away from my daughter!" warned an unfamiliar voice. Hamish felt his neck throb and Kia's scent overwhelmed his body. "Take care, my love." came Kia's voice and then, there was nothing.
Hamish awoke the next day to find Kia laying next to him. He tried to get up but failed. Weakly, Hamish lifted his head to look over his shoulder. His left hind leg was bleeding and swollen. With his nose, he nudged Kia and she gently awoke. Her eyes were puffy and red like she had been crying. "Don't worry." she said calmly. "I know where we can hide." Hide? wondered Hamish. Why hide? Kia gently lifted her new mate by the nape of his neck and dragged him through the woods. She stopped at a branble thicket and crept inside. Prickly branches scraped on Hamish's pelt but that was nothing compared to the pain in his leg. Kia finally set him down, then, gathered up some powdery snow to make a soft bed. "Why are we hiding?" asked Hamish. "My pack...." Kia began. "They say mating with husky dogs is against the Pack Code. Who even cares about the code?" She paused for a breath then started again. "The pack...they are looking for us. To kill us." Hamish's eyes widened. The thought of being hunted rippled through his head. He and Kia were now fugitives.
The next day, Kia left to look for food. Hamish had to admit, he did look scrawnier then before. An hour later, Kia came back with a mouse and some moss. "Share?" "Share." Hamish replied. Suddenly, loud crash came from the front of the thicket. Two burly wolves flung themselves at both Kia and Hamish. A gray one bit down on Kia's neck. The white one gripped Hamish by the tail. Hamish suddenly felt himself fling and crashing into the thorns. Hamish heard a yelp from Kia and that was it. Hamish's eyes filled with blood and he felt a sharp pang in his neck. But, blindly, he flung himself at the two wolves and chomped down on the white one's neck. The gray wolf growled and snapped at him. Hamish let go and shook himself. His vision was good again. He pounced onto the white wolf's back but was flung back off. His eyes filled with blood again. His leg and his neck hurt. Finally, he felt nothing.
"Did you kill them?" asked a muscular black wolf. The gray wolf and the white wolf nodded. "Good." came the reply from the black wolf. He flung some deer meat at the two wolves. They wrestled around, tugging at the meat until it ripped in half. "Now, your next mission is to find the chosen one." The two wolves froze. "B- But that's impossible." stammered the white one. "Silence!" roared the black one. He flung himself at the white wolf and gripped it's throat. "Don't say another word." snarled the black wolf dropping the gray wolf. Blood poured from it's neck and it's breaths were long and slow. It took one lkast final breath, then died. "Alright." said the black wolf whipping around. "It's just you and me." The gray wolf nodded bravely, but, fear swelled up inside of it. "You need to find that chosen wolf and bring him to me." "What is his name?" asked the gray wolf. "Junior." replied the black wolf. "His name is Junior."
The End.
P.S. For those of you who are wondering, Kia's name is pronounced: (Khee-Ah.) Also just to let you know, the black wolf's name is Coal and the gray wolf's name is Timber. (Like the color.) And for those who want to know the white wolf's name, (though you don't really need to know) it's Snowshoe. Yes, all characters are copyright to me! Noone else! ME!
