It was a cold brisk morning Kodi and Balto and Dusty were on a walk through the woods trip for fun

Kodi began getting bored.

Kodi then thought to himself why not scare Dusty.

He always did that for fun when he was bored.

Kodi quickly moved out of Dusty’s sight.

Dusty began calling Kodi where are you?

No response.

Dusty began to panic because she could not find Balto or Kodi.

She spun quickly around when she heard a low growling.

Kodi hid himself very well.

Kodi thought to himself this is great she has no clue where I am.

Kodi began to growl louder.

Ever since Kodi was a pup whenever he became violent his eyes would shift yellow just like Balto’s.

He used it to his advantage.

Dusty in a scared tone said Kodi this isn’t funny stop it she cried but still no response.

She saw a wolf figure looking at her and began to panic more.

Then without warning Kodi lunged at Dusty and took her down.

With Kodi’s yellow eyes staring into Dusty’s.

Kodi opened his jaws as if he were going to bite her.

With tears in her eyes Kodi stopped and began laughing.

Quickly changing his eyes back to white and crystal blue around his pupils.

Dusty smacked Kodi so hard he fell to the ground with a loud thump.

Kodi laid there in shocked he felt something running down his fur and touched it and saw blood.

Kodi looked at her and said gosh Dusty you didn’t have to hit me that hard.

Dusty with a fire in her eyes said Kodi if you ever do that again I will kill you!

Balto heard all the noise and ran over and said what’s going on?

Dusty with a low growl in her voice said Kodi hid from me and jumped me so I hit him so hard he bounced off the ground and was cut above his eye.

Balto laughed and said that’s what you get Kodi for scaring her.

Kodi scoffed whatever.

It was silent and then out of know where a white wolf rammed Balto.

Balto stood and went for the wolf after the two fought the wolf pinned Balto and went for his neck.

Kodi sprang into action and rammed the wolf and clamped down on the wolf’s neck instantly killing him.

Balto and Dusty stood in shock.

Kodi looked at them and said what?

Balto and Dusty tore off back to town and left Kodi standing there.

Kodi had no clue as to why they left them there.

Kodi made it back to town a little after dark and went back to his owners.

The owner laughed as Kodi walked in and said now that you’re back ready to go?

Kodi was confused as to why they were leaving.

They walked to an abandoned shop.

Kodi and the owner walked in and Kodi without warning was lifted up and dropped into a pit.

Another man spoke gentle men your dogs you sit in the ring must fight or will be shot on site.

The owner laughed and said good luck.

Kodi sat there confused at what he heard.

Then another dog was dropped in. Kodi has managed to read the dog tag on the husky’s neck. Buck.

Kodi asked the husky what was going on and the husky said you’re in a dog fight stupid last one standing wins.

Kodi was shocked.

Then another husky was dropped in. two! Kodi said in fear and saw the other tag that said Yukon they both matched in a copper and white color.

Then the two looked at each other and smiled evilly charged Kodi.

Kodi’s eyes quickly shifted yellow.

Balto had taught Kodi how to fight when he was a pup so fighting was second nature two him next to sledding.

Once in a practice fight Kodi actually took down Balto. That’s how Kodi knew he was ready for combat.

Yukon and buck charged Kodi and Kodi dodged every attack buck made but Yukon actually got a few good hits before Kodi decided it was enough.

Kodi made quick work of Yukon and pinned him and went for his neck. Then ended his life as he went limp.

Buck stared at his dead brother and jumped out of the ring and left.

Kodi then had another opponent.

He made quick work of him too.

Kodi began to enjoy the kills so he kept fighting.

Until his owner pulled him out of the ring.

The owner laughed wildly and said Kodi you’re useful after all. The man made 1000$ that night.

Kodi returned home with cuts and bruises.

Kodi was bandage up and he went off to bed and slept well.

The next evening after Kodi and dusty and Kirby made the mail run. Kirby and Dusty looked at Kodi and saw the bandages Kirby said Kodi what happened? Kodi replied oh I just cut myself up a little that’s all then Kodi left. Kodi ran through the streets of Nome looking for his father but instead ran into his mom. Literally. Kodi smacked right into Jenna knocking her and him to the ground. Jenna stood and said Kodi what in the heck was that for? Jenna looked at Kodi and asked what is the matter. As she saw his chest rise up and down quickly.

Jenna looked into Kodi’s eyes and said Kodi your eyes are yellow.

Jenna knew if his eyes were yellow he had been in some kind of trouble.

Kodi quickly shifted them.

Kodi out of breath said I need to find dad. Jenna looked at her son curious as to why he needed to find Balto but as they stood there every dog that passed them looked at Kodi with disgust. Kodi thought to himself rumors are spreading fast I wondered if I should tell mom.

Mom Kodi said panting I did something very bad yesterday but we can’t talk about it here.

Jenna looked at Kodi and said ok but it couldn’t have been that bad.

Jenna took Kodi back to Balto’s boat to find out the whole story was.

Kodi walked into the lower deck of the boat and Jenna walked in behind him. She sat in front of him and asked what's wrong Kodi?

Kodi sighed and said mom yesterday when we were out walking in the forest and wolf jumped Balto and I hit the wolf off dad and clamped down on his neck and killed him but the strange part is that I enjoyed it. They both looked at me shocked and left me there. Jenna said figures that he would leave you out in the middle of nowhere. Kodi yelled mom let me finish the story! Ok Jenna said. And after that Kodi said when I got home I was taken to a dog fighting ring and I took five other dogs out that evening.

Jenna looked at Kodi shocked. Jenna said you’re not my son. My son would never take the life of another. Kodi yelled in anger you don’t understand as he stormed out.

Then he ran straight into Balto. Kodi looked at him and said dad I have been looking for you. Balto looked at him and said well what is it? Kodi said dad I need to know why you and Dusty left.

Balto replied son you killed my brother that day and he was all I had left from my side of the family.

Kodi said then why did he try to kill you?

Balto said Kodi some time ago me and him had to fight in a pit match I had him pinned but I couldn’t kill him so I left.

Kodi said kind of sounds like what happened with me last night.

Balto in surprise said what!

Kodi said yeah I have been fighting since last night I took five dogs out that night.

Balto said in anger why are you in dog fights?

I don’t know Kodi said but my owner took me there and sat me in a ring and I was told what to do or I would be shot there.

So I fought and now I can’t wait for tonight.

Balto said with disgust you’re a murder and ran off and Kodi said your weak and you know it he shouted as Balto ran to Jenna.

They both stared at Kodi as he ran off.

Kodi sat on the snow covered beach looking at the sky after his fights that night.

And said who I am.

He looked at a husky that ran to him and yelled remember me!

Kodi was rammed by buck. Kodi stood up and said well hello to you to.

Kodi eyes quickly changed.

Kodi also extended his claws.

Kodi looked at buck as he yelled you killed my brother you could have stopped but you kept going till he was dead and now I am going to kill you the husky yelled as buck charged him again.

Kodi in response said fine if you want a fight you got one.

The fight began and two minutes in buck pinned Kodi but before buck had a chance Kodi kicked him off.

The two fought and Kodi finally threw buck to the ground and said time to finish this and clamped down on bucks neck and felt buck go limp.

Kodi spat the blood as he said now you can join your brother.

Then Kodi began to drag the body into the water where no one would find him.

He froze as a stern voice said his name.

Kodi!

Kodi turned around to see the hero of Nome, his father, Balto standing there shocked. Kodi walked out from the water his eyes yellow and faced Balto.

Balto said Kodi your eyes are yellow and Kodi you-you just killed him!

Kodi laughed wildly and said I know isn’t it great.

Then without guilt Kodi said “What?” he asked as if he hadn’t done anything.

Kodi, look what you’ve done. You’ve murdered this innocent dog. Son, how could you? Balto’s voice showed much anger and disappointment.

Easy. He was no match for me. Kodi shrugged. “Oh well.”

You’re…a murder. Aren’t you ashamed of what you are? Balto asked seeing the look on Kodi’s face.

“No!” Kodi screamed. “I am not!”

Balto stepped back in surprise at being yelled at by his own son.

“I love being half wolf! Dad, I’m ashamed of WHO I am, not WHAT I am and you know what for the records I enjoy murdering.” Kodi growled and charged Balto. Balto dodge Kodi and the two fought and Kodi finally pinned Balto.

Balto looked Kodi in the eyes and said you wouldn’t.

Kodi laughed wildly and said oh yeah…..I would.

Slowly he began to clamp on Balto’s neck Balto saw a quick way out and took it. He kicked and Kodi fell to the ground and quickly regained his footing and jumped at Balto once more. Balto with a quick strike hit Kodi’s face and knocked him to the ground.

Kodi stood and said in a low growl I will get you and bolted off.

Balto stood in shock at what had just happened to him. After a moment he turned around and walked back to Jenna’s house to tell her what had just gone on.

The next day Balto and Jenna sat next to the boat. Balto had explained what happened the night before and now they were talking about it.

I can’t believe him, Balto. Jenna said as she looked at the snow.

Yeah Jen, I know. I wouldn’t believe it either if I wouldn’t have been attacked. Kodi is a killer. Balto said leaning on his mate.

“I’m back.”

Balto and Jenna hopped to their feet with a gasp as kodi walked out from behind the corner.

Kodi’s eyes burned yellow.

Balto growling stepped in front of Jenna and said take one step closer to her and I’ll make sure you never live to see tomorrow.

Kodi replied bring it on. Kodi looked ready to fight with his eyes yellow and claws fully out and his tail curled up to show he wasn’t planning on backing down.

“I figure…I get rid of both of you...Then you won’t have to be ashamed of me. Pretty good plan huh?” Kodi smirked. “Don’t worry. I’ll make your quick and painless just like my other victims.”

“Not on your life Kodi!” said a wolf as she leapt from the boat. She looked exactly like Balto. Right away Kodi recognized his sister Alue.

“Well Aleu how are ya? Long time no see.” Kodi scoffed at Alue.

“Save the talk, you’re not touching mom and dad.” Alue bared her teeth to show Kodi she was not going to back down.

“Who’s going to stop me? You and what army?” Kodi taunted Alue.

“This army!” a husky said as he jumped from the boat and landed next to Aleu. He wore a collar with a tag that said blazer. This was also Kodi’s brother. Then from behind Balto and Jenna, Dusty Kodi’s mate and Ranger also his brother that matched Kodi in every way even his eyes arrived and stood on the other side of Alue.

“You’re out numbered. We may each be not as good as a fighter but we’re here to protect mom and dad.” Alue said with a rage glare at Kodi.

“You and your friend’s are dead!” Kodi’s raged flared

Alue was the first to sense Kodi’s readiness to fight.

The larger wolf dog jumped at Kodi who instantly tried to hit her with his paw. Alue dodged every move and even got a bite on Kodi’s fore leg, but with a mighty swing Kodi sent Alue flying back to the group, who each stood ready to jump in at any moment.

Alue stood and was ready to fight again but a sharp, commanding bark halting everyone. All the dogs turned to look as a large black and white canine walked up slowly. He stopped and glanced at Balto. Balto nodded and the canine continued forward.

The canine had a champion sled collar and smoke gray eyes. His paws were bigger then a dog’s. This canine looked at Kodi with apparent disgust.

Kodi, if you’d like to fight then fight me, I’m not your family. I am Max. Max voice was strong and held much command.

Kodi bared his teeth at this new canine. Apparently his parents and siblings knew him, yet Kodi had not once met him. “Fine!” Kodi shouted and jumped at Max.

Max dodged each attack Kodi made on him. Kodi slowly ran out of energy as he continued to lash at Max with all his might but he would not go down. Kodi growled and finally managed to scrape his claws across Max’s side. He left nothing but minor broken skin. It didn’t even bleed.

Max decided it was enough and jumped at Kodi. Kodi braced himself to intercept the attack but was thrown off guard at Max’s strength. Kodi fell to the ground and scrambled wildly to get up. He knew that once you were down you had little chance of getting up.

Max growled fiercely. Kodi refused to show weakness until Max grabbed him by the scruff and crashed Kodi to the ground. It was then Kodi began to crack.

Max glanced sideways at Balto and Alue then they jumped on top of Kodi and held him there.

Max bared his teeth and took hold of Kodi’s neck.

Kodi waited for the searing pain and the feeling of his blood.

Slowly Kodi began to the pain and the feeling of his blood run down his fur.

Through his whole life Kodi had never been scared. Today he was. Max held him too tight but gently. Kodi finally broke and started to tremble in fear and tears coming to his eyes. His eyes quickly snapping back to crystal blue.

Max waited another moment and Kodi began to whimper finally Kodi screamed n…no please don’t kill me! Then Max ears perked then looked at Balto, he nodded then Max carefully let Kodi go and stepped off of him.

With blood running very slowly down kodi’s light tan colored side of his fur staining and matching kodi’s blood red top half color.

Kodi opened one eye and the other realizing Max wasn’t on top of him. “h- Hey...” Kodi shuddered as he tried to speak to Max. “Wh- why di- didn’t you…kill me?”

Max stared down at Kodi. “Kodi, its wolf code. I know what you’ve been taught but it’s wrong. When someone shows defeat, you let them go. I’ve seen many things you’ve done, every murder you’ve committed, and every fight you’ve been in...Yes even buck...” Max said staring sternly into Kodi’s eyes.

“You’re…a wolf?” Kodi asked still bleeding and laying on the ground in a submissive pose.

Max put his paw next to Kodi’s slowly (to show he wasn’t going to hurt him) Kodi tilted his head curiously as he saw how much bigger Max was to him. “Yes. I am a wolf. And it is part of wolf code that I do not kill you in a fight where you’ve given up.”

Kodi’s family watched in surprised as Kodi actually respected Max. Kodi sat up and kindly stared and began to say I’m sorry but began to wobble then collapsed. The last thing Kodi saw was Aleu running towards him. Max looked at Kodi panicking. He looked at Balto and said I’m sorry I took it too far.

No Balto said (standing next to Kodi) in reply you showed him what it was like to stare death in the face.

Aleu propped Kodi up and looked at balto and said he’s not breathing!

Max loaded Kodi on his back and they all raced to town.

Balto looked at Aleu as they ran and told him to go get doc and meet them back at the boiler room.

Kodi slowly came back to life with doc hovering over him and said welcome back.

Kodi sat up and felt something on his neck and put a paw up to it and felt the bandage. ‘What happened’ Kodi asked as Max and Balto and Aleu and Dusty walked in.

Kodi saw Max and backpedaled so hard that he tripped over his paws and fell to the ground.

Max slowly walked towards Kodi. Kodi scooted to the corner of the walls and slowly sat there whimpering waiting for the kill.

Max stopped and looked at kodi and said Kodi I’m not going to hurt you I wanted to see how you were after our little scrape. Max said Kodi I’m sorry for nearly killing you but there was no other way to get the point across.

Kodi raced through his thoughts and remembered what happened.

Balto looked Kodi in the eyes and said he is right if we had not done that you would still be killing.

Kodi teary eyed said I’m sorry I just became addicted and could not stop.

Balto walked over to his son and hugged him and said well at least it’s over.

They all hugged Kodi and Max left and told Balto that if he ever needed help again just to howl.

After Kodi’s ordeal Balto and Aleu left and Dusty stayed with Kodi just to make sure he made it through the night.

Because of where the bite marks were at Kodi was in stable but serious condition and needed to be monitored.

But before Balto left he looked at Dusty and whispered for her to make sure he didn’t try anything again and if he did to kill him.

Dusty looked at him stunned. But Balto he’s your son. Dusty said.

I know said Balto but if that didn’t scare him straight nothing will.

Okay said Dusty I’ll watch out.

Good night then as Balto walked home.

Dusty looked at Kodi as he lay curled up and sleeping. Dusty lay close by as Kodi slept just in case anything went south.

Halfway through the night Kodi began to shiver because of the cold. Dusty woke and looked at Kodi and said Kodi is everything okay you’re shivering? Kodi looked at Dusty’s emerald green eyes and said I’m just cold that’s all. Dusty said well maybe I can help and she lay down across Kodi her muzzle next to his and said better? Kodi answered yes much better. And they both began to drift off to sleep.

Meanwhile Balto couldn’t sleep and was worried that Kodi may try to kill Dusty. Balto finally drifted off to sleep and dream. But the dream Balto was having was a horrible one.

Balto found himself running towards the boiler room and hearing Dusty scream and ran in to see Kodi’s teeth sinking into Dusty’s neck and clamping down and watching her die right in front of him and Kodi laughing wildly and looking at Balto with yellow eyes and said in a deep tone your next!

Balto snapped awake and ran out the door racing to the boiler room screaming I’m coming Dusty at the top of his lungs.

Mean while Kodi had the very same dream and saw himself murder Dusty and jumped out from under Dusty and screamed NO! At the top of his lungs with his eyes bright yellow.

Dusty snapped awake and said Kodi what’s wrong?

Kodi stumbled off Dusty and said teary eyed it was horrible I dreamed I killed you in your sleep. Dusty looked up at him and saw his eyes yellow and told Kodi it’s just a dream I’m still here and so are you so calm down let’s lay down and go back to sleep. Kodi looked at Dusty and said your right lets sleep.

In the shadows balto saw up on the wall while Kodi yawned it looked like he was fixing to clamp down on Dusty’s neck. Just then Balto burst through the door saying in a booming voice STEP AWAY FROM MY HER YOU MURDERING DOG!

Kodi looked at his father as he rammed Kodi so hard he bounced off the floor twice and lay still in a curled up position.

Dusty jumped up and said Balto he was just yawning not trying to kill me we just talked about a dream the kodi had that he killed me but I told him it was just a dream!

Balto looked at Kodi and said he had the same dream I had.

Dusty looked at him confused and said what are you talking about?

I had the same kind of dream but I saw Kodi kill you and looked at me and said I was next.

As Kodi lay still Balto called his name and no response. KODIAK! Balto yelled but no response. Dusty and Balto raced over to where he lay and saw blood under neath him and saw the bandages open leaving his bite marks to leak blood.

Dusty saw the crimson red blood stain Kodi’s light tan fur on his under belly.

Balto looked and said what have I done! I killed Kodi!

Dusty began to cry and leaned against Balto as Balto looked at Kodi’s side and said he’s alive!

As they both saw his chest rise up and down very slowly. Kodi stood up and said I sorry for everything that’s happened and began wobbling fell on his pillow that he slept on as Dusty replaced the bandage after washing the blood off Balto looked at Kodi and said I’m sorry I just panicked after what happened after everything I was afraid of losing Dusty or another family member.

Kodi replied wincing in pain its okay I would have done the same as his chest rose up and slowly. Balto looked and pointed to his eyes and said uh Kodi your eyes.

Kodi replied oh sorry as he shifted them.

Dusty looked at Balto and said why don’t you just stay here so you know for a fact he won’t do anything. As Dusty finished cleaning his blood off of him she looked into Kodi’s crustal eyes and said I love you. as she lay across him to comfort him as the three drifted off to sleep.

A few weeks later Kodi was back up and running but wasn’t out of the woods yet.

After finishing a mail run. Ranger walked up. And said Kodi we have to take you to Blazer for trial.

Kodi said what why?

Ranger replied they found the body of buck.

Kodi knew and said okay lets go.

As they all walked to the trial Balto and Jenna stood outside Jenna crying and leaning against Balto. Kodi said what’s wrong dad? Balto looked up and said Kodi the word is that Blazer will sentence you to death.

Kodi sat down and stared at the snow and said I understand.

As they all walked inside Ranger stood next to Kodi.

Ranger leaned over to Kodi and said I have to be here for Blazer’s safety.

Kodi knew that he worked for the sheriff’s department so it was part of their job.

Kodi never thought that he see this side of Blazer but knew what was at hand.

Blazer began will the defendant please rise. Kodi stood on all fours and blaze said Kodiak of Nome Alaska you hereby stand here for the crimes of the flowing murder of the first degree. Blazer looked Kodi in the eyes and said how do you plead?

Kodi said guilty.

Everyone in the room was shocked.

Blazer said then has the jury reached a verdict?

A black husky stood and said we find the defendant Kodiak,

Guilty,

Kodi lowered his head and Blazer said I will now carry the sentence for the crime of murder I sentence you to death by drowning.

Everyone gasped.

Kodi yelled NO! As Ranger held him as he struggled to stand.

Jenna cried and Balto lowered his head.

Blazer said at 12:00 p.m. tomorrow you will be excicutued.

Kodi was dismissed and escorted out first. The family then flowed.

They gathered in the boiler room for kodi’s final hours.

Kodi said I can’t believe death is my sentence.

None of us can said Balto but Blaze is the law and what he says go’s.

I know replied Kodi.

Just then Blazer walked in and saw the family of Kodi circled around him.

Kodi gave hostile looks with yellow eyes and bared his teeth and said what do you want?

Blazer responded it’s just that I’m sorry but I had to give that sentence no special trement even though were family.

Kodi looked up and said Blazer I think you should leave.

Fine said Blazer as he walked out bumping into Kirby one of the other mail team runners on his way out.

Kirby and walked in and said I heard the news.

Kodi looked up and said what about it?

Well Kirby said if I can find anything that would prove you not guilty he will let you go.

Kodi said there’s no use there is nothing that will prove me innocent.

Well I can at least try he said fine said Kodi but you don’t have long its 7:00 now if you’re going to find anything you will have to hurry.

Okay I will.

Good luck said Kodi as he left

Kodi and the family fell asleep for the night. Dusty lay over Kodi since she knew it was only a matter of time before he slept forever.

11:50 a.m. Balto Jenna Dusty Aleu and Kodi waited for the sentence to be carried through as they sat next to the lake that he would be dropped into.

Kodi shivered at the sight and thought well it’s been fun as he waited to be dropped in.

Ranger walked over and said Kodi its time. Balto and Jenna hugged him one last time as did Dusty.

Kodi sat on the ice and waited.

Blaze walked up at 11:58 and said Kodiak do you have any last words before sentenced to death?

Yes said Kodi

Kodi said Dusty come over here, she was allowed to do so Kodi said remove my tags by that kodi meant his tags he was given for the mail team Dusty removed the blue and silver collar with the little envelope name tag that said Kodiak U.S. mail.

Dusty with tears in her eyes nodded her head and removed it she nuzzled him one last time and stepped down.

11:59 blaze stood next to Kodi and said I will now carry out your death penalty.

Kodi nodded.

12:00,

Kodi hit the water, and slowly began to drown.

Just then Kirby ran up with proof that Kodi was innocent because the dog fight that had lead buck to challenge Kodi and attacking him and Kirby held the slip that showed Kodi buck and Yukon to fight that night.

Dusty and Aleu nearly knocked over Ranger and Blazer as they dove in to save kodi they made fast work of cutting the weights loose and bringing him to the surface and laying him on the ground.

Balto knew one way to get the water out he jumped and landed on Kodi instantly pushing the water out.

Everyone cheered as kodi lay there alive but freezing Dusty slipped his collar over him and said I think this is yours.

Blazer lifted the sentence and they all went to the boiler room to celebrate.

After the party everyone except Kodi and Dusty left. Kodi lay back down on his pillow and sighed and slowly went to sleep.

He later awoke to Dusty lying on top of him smiling and said I had a feeling you were cold. Kodi looked into Dusty’s eyes and said I love you. Dusty replied same here.
