This is my second Balto story, so have fun reading and leave a comment. Thank you!
This is after the first movie but before Jenna had pups, just to let you know.
Even though Balto has been the town hero for a week, lots of dogs are still making fun of him for being part wolf. All week it was like being the town hero didn’t mean anything! His new mate Jenna never noticed him being so sad, and Boris and Muk and Luk aren’t the least bit of help either. Whenever he walks through the streets, the people are kinda nice now, but hate it when he steals some food for lunch. He doesn’t mind it much, though. But the dogs would always say something like, “Hey Balto! Where’s your pack? Did the little wolfie get lost? Let’s help you!” And it just ends up in a fight that he loses.
When he comes to Jenna’s, she acts like she never notices him. She’s always like, “AH! Balto you scared me! I didn’t even know you arrived! Well, I have to go now. I have a picnic with Rosie and her parents this afternoon. I’ll see you!”
At home, they don’t appreciate him.
Boris always goes, “Balto! Look at this mess! Scraps of meat everywhere, water all over the floor! I clean every single day, and then you just trash it, just like that! What am I going to do with you?”
Muk and Luk are just plain annoying!
“Hey Balto, play a game with us! Okay, here’s how it works! ...”- Blah blah blah!
One night, Balto crawls into bed, wishing that all his troubles would be over. Why did his father have to marry a WOLF?! Why can’t he marry a husky like himself? Then HE’D be a husky, too! He wished with all his might to be a husky! That made him wonder…*dream sequence mode*……………
Balto woke up, yawned and stretched in the morning sun. He actually felt pretty good today, but he knew his happiness would end and soon as the day starts. He took a look around his boat, only, it WASN’T his boat! Balto got up quickly in surprise and looked more. It was a house, but it wasn’t Jenna’s, or anyone else he knew. It was actually far fancier.
“What’s going on?” He asked himself. “I go to sleep on my boat and I end up in a house? I don’t sleepwalk!” Balto looked around the room. On the wall, there were lots of pictures of this tan husky with a very light brown underbelly, wearing a lot of medals. It looked like his name was Hurricane. There were some pictures of a dark brown and light brown husky with him, named Flash. And some others with Hurricane, Flash, and another husky who was tan like Hurricane, but had a yellowish cream underbelly. Her name seemed to be Hope. This was weird. He didn’t know this family. But most were of Hurricane and his owner, named Harry. Balto looked at the bed he slept in. It was an actual bed! The bed that people use! This was strange. Maybe he could ask these three other huskies if they could help him find his boat again. He went out the door to the room and was astounded!
The hallway was long and there were railings that looked like they were made from real gold! And a beautiful red carpet covered the floor.
“Nobody could afford THESE in
“Hey Hurricane! How’s my favorite sled dog?”
What? I’m not Hurricane! I’m Balto! Right? Balto quickly tried to find a mirror, and once he found one in the bathroom, he just stared. He looked exactly like the dog in the pictures. How is this possible?! He just kept staring in disbelief. His coat was tan and shiny instead of dark grey and brown and all shaggy. And he was wearing a fancy sled dog collar that had “Hurricane” written on it instead of wearing nothing. And his eyes were blue and not brownish red. What happened last night?! Did he just suddenly turn into a husky over night? Then it hit him like a bomb!
“Wait…I’m…I’m a husky!! I’m not part wolf anymore! I’m a HUSKY!!” He cried in joy! “My wish came true! Wait, if I’m a husky, that means…” He went into the bedroom again. The pictures on the wall of the dark brown husky…was his FATHER! And the tan and cream one…his new MOTHER! He couldn’t believe it! He still didn’t know how it happened, but his wish came true and his mother is a purebred husky! “And now I’m a champion sled dog just like my dad!” Balto exclaimed.
“Hurricane? Where did you go?” Harry called. “You seem a bit jumpier than usual. Is everything okay?”
“Oh everything is SPLENDID!!” He danced around the room in joy! “I wonder how everything changed…” After that he ran as fast as he could back to the kitchen, passed Harry, and ran out the doggie door. As soon as he went outside on his porch, everyone was waiting for him.
“Hi Hurricane!” Everyone shouted. Balto or “Hurricane” raised his paw hello and all the girls just fainted with a happy sigh. That made him wonder…Where was Jenna? He went closer to ask them.
“Excuse me? Do you know where Jenna is?” He asked. All the dogs looked confused.
“There’s no “Jenna” around here. You never mentioned HER before. Is she new?” One of them shouted.
“What? No, she’s a husky, a red and cream husky that wears an orange bandana around her neck. How could you miss her?”
“Look Hurricane, we don’t know what you’re talking about. There is no husky with an orange bandana that we know. Are you feeling ok?” Another dog said.
“So wait…I don’t have a mate?” He seemed confused.
Everyone laughed like he told the greatest joke in the history of jokes.
“Of course you have a mate!” A big dog shouted. “Her name is Serenity and she lives across the street from you. How could you not remember this?”
“Oh! I just…bumped my head last night I guess…” He was a bad liar.
“Oh you poor thing!” One of the girl dogs shouted and came up to him. “How can I make it better?”
“No, I’m fine. I just need a little reminding that’s all.”
“Aww man!” The girl dog stomped away.
“You DO know that you’re the most famous dog in
“
“Are you kidding?
Balto was in shock! The place he called home is now gone forever because of him. It was he who brought the medicine back and saved the town, but since he’s a husky and had a different past, he didn’t find the lost team, therefore didn’t bring back the medicine, and all those kids…
“Are you okay, Hurricane?” A grey dog asked.
“Huh? Oh yeah I’m ok. I’m just in a bit of shock here.”
“Oh look, here comes Serenity!” Another dog shouted.
“Hurricane” looked over the crowd to see a beautiful black and dark grey husky walk slowly toward him. She had stunning, blue-green eyes that looked like crystals. Surely she was more beautiful than Jenna.
“Hey, baby!” She called.
“Uh, hi.”
“You’re lookin’ smokin’ today! How about a walk on the beach?”
“Uh, sure. You…are my mate aren’t you?”
Serenity giggled. “A guy with a sense of humor. That’s what I like about you. You always know how to make me laugh!” After that she nuzzled him very tenderly. Balto wasn’t sure if he should return it. But eventually he did. She now was his mate.
Now he wished the paparazzi would leave as they headed toward the beach. When they finally got to the shore, they took a small moment to gaze and then left in one group.
“Whoo! Finally we can be alone!” Serenity said in relief.
“Do those dogs follow us everywhere?”
“Oh yeah! Everywhere! You should know that, baby! But it doesn’t matter, because we are finally alone together. And you know what I wanna do now?”
“I think I can guess.” Hurricane whispered as she leaned closer. Her fresh breath gave him the chills!
“Come here you cutie!” She grabbed him and kissed him. And this isn’t one of those pecks on the cheek. Just the opposite! It was too disgusting to watch! Then she pushed him down and started kissing him again. Hurricane was in shock again. Did she do this every time?
They were like this for a very long time until she finally let go of him. They were breathing deep for a second, then she spoke.
“Wow. That was magical, huh baby?”
“Yeaaaah. It had something alright.”
“I know! That’s why I love you, you rascal! C’mon! let’s take that walk now, okay?” Serenity tapped his nose with her claw.
“Okay.” He said as he got up again. That never happened with him and Jenna. He was still wondering if he liked it or not.
After the date was over, he got trampled and smooched on again, but he actually returned it a little. Hurricane thinks this new life is catching on fast and good!
When he returned to his home, his owner was waiting for him.
“There you are, my little champion! Your parents are here.”
Parents! He shouted through his mind. This day gets better with every waking-or sleeping- moment! He scrambled to his room where his parents were, and smiled at the fact that they were both huskies! They looked exactly like the ones in the pictures. He was so glad to see them.
“Hi mom! Hi dad!!” He ran in to hug them, but he was stopped.
“Yeah, whatever, son. I just want to know how you’ve been doing in the races? Are you winning every one?” His father asked.
“Well, according to these medals and trophies, yes!”
Both parents looked around the room in disgust.
“You call THIS a trophy?!” Flash exclaimed. “And look at these medals! This will certainly not do!”
“But dad, isn’t racing just about running the race, not winning or losing?”
“WHAT?! Who ever told you such a lie?! Racing is winning! And winning is happiness! And am I happy, NO!”
“Mom? Can’t you reason with him?”
Hope just looked at her claws. “*scoff* Why should I? I knew you were just a dirty filthy street rat since they day you were born! I knew you weren’t racing material! And don’t call me ‘Mom’. I have better things to do than to raise you.”
“Then who DID raise me?”
“*Scoff* Do I have to tell him everything, Flashie?”
“I’ll do it dear, if it’ll get him to shut up. You were raised by a nanny we hired.”
Hope continued. “We never wanted kids, so we just gave the rest of your siblings away to some snotty human children for a price. We only kept you because we wanted another sled dog in our family to keep being rich! Now we are the envy of MOST of the neighborhood because of you! Why did you have to LOSE!! Flash, get rid of him. We’ll find another son that WINS FOR ONCE! He’s no use to us anymore!”
“You will pay for losing the race! And now your life is the price!” Flash lunged at Hurricane and both crashed through the window to outside. Hurricane didn’t want to fight so he kept dodging every one of his father’s moves, but he was still being clawed in the process. The broken glass went deeper into his back and it started to bleed. After he found this out, he just ran. Ran far away. But then he was stopped by Serenity. He expected another kiss, but it was a slap in the face instead.
“I hate you! I never want to see your ugly face again!”
“What did I do?!”
“I heard you lost a race. 2nd place?! UGH!”
“So you only dated me for my winning?”
“YES! I really think you’re the ugliest thing I’ve seen all my life! And look! Your owner has a gun! Bye, BABY!!” She ran away from him, and stared at his owner, who was about to shoot him.
“You little rat! You’re going to pay for ruining my dream!!” He shot twice and then Hurricane just split! Just ran away! Far away from
It’s been a few hours since he fled
Muk and Luk probably found a better home, and Boris…he probably learned to fly south for the winter. He just realized that Boris, Muk and Luk never met Balto, or Hurricane. They don’t know who he is! So that means Jenna never met him either, and probably belonged to Steele…who perished during the serum run…It was his fault. It was his fault Steele and the rest of the team died, his fault that all those kids lost their lives in the sickness, and his fault that his one true love and his best friends were gone forever.
Tears were streaming down his cheeks as he looked up to the sky in front of the boat that was once his loving home.
“I don’t want to be Hurricane anymore! I want to be Balto, half dog and half wolf! I want my mate and my friends back! I want
“Balto! Are you okay?! Speak to me! Please!”
Finally Hurricane shut his eyes as tight as he could. He could hear the voice louder like it was right in front of him…
“Balto! What’s wrong?!”
Balto shot open his eyes. Boris was staring at him, very worried. Muk and Luk were right behind him, concerned as well.
“Huh? Boris?”
“You’re awake, Balto! Are you okay?”
“Boris? Muk, Luk?” Balto turned from sad to surprised to happy in a millisecond!
“BORIS!” Balto hugged the little but old goose. Muk and Luk had their share of hugs also. “Oh Boris, I’m more than okay, I’m just so happy you’re alive!” He looked around. He was on his old boat again! But then a thought struck through his mind.
“Jenna!” Balto sped to Jenna’s, spinning Boris around and around, making him dizzy.
“Oy, he’s in one of his moods again, I bet.” The old goose whispered to himself.
Balto was like lightning on his way to Jenna’s! On his way, he looked around the town, and it was full and alive as usual! He breathed a huge sigh of relief! And when he rammed through the front door to Jenna’s place, everyone saw him and was very glad he arrived.
“Balto! Good thing you’re here boy!” Rosie’s Father said. “Jenna has something to tell you…” Balto padded up to Jenna, laying on a big red sofa in the living room. She was so happy to see him.
“Balto! My love, I have great news!” Balto leaned closer so she could nuzzle him. How good that felt!
“What is it?” Balto didn’t really care what the news was, he was just happy Jenna was okay, and here.
“Okay, this may be a big shock to you but…I’m having puppies.”
Balto stared at her, frozen. But the ice on him melted away fast as he nuzzled her again and again with happiness!
“Oh Jenna! That’s such great news! Congratulations, honey!!
They talked about puppies for about an hour before Balto wanted to go outside now. Jenna understood and said she would meet him tomorrow. Balto nodded as he walked out the door. He wasn’t in such a hurry now. A few minutes after he went into town again, he met up with some alley dogs, who were one of the dog groups making fun of him.
“Why don’t you just go back to the wild and leave us alone, Half breed!” One of them said.
Balto, for once didn’t mind it. “Yes, I am a half breed! But I’m not leaving this town for the world! I love it here and you should, too! It’s a great place isn’t it?”
The three dogs just stared at each other, confused. And they just left him alone. Balto smiled as they left, becoming more confident now. He found a little ice patch in the middle of the street. He walked up to it and smiled again as he, Balto the half wolf, looked right back at him and smiled at well. And he knew that wherever his parents were, they were proud of him. And now that’s all that matters to him, Balto, not Hurricane.
