Epilogue

The moon shined down upon the treetops of the Alaskan wilderness, leaving patches of moonlight on the forest floor. As a cloud of mist decended over the forest, a muscular wolf trotted down a well walked path, sat underneath a burnt oak tree, and waited. While he was waiting, something small and furry caught his eye, it was a field mouse scurrying across the crinkly autumn leaves. As the mouse ran into a dark patch where the moonlight did not show, the muscular wolf heard a shriek of terror.
"Please, please let me go. I'm just a little mouse, Mr. Wolf, Sir." squeaked the fearful mouse. There was only a rumbling growl as the little mouse was mouthed by his captor and was quickly eaten.
"I see you got my message." Spoke the dark, muscular wolf.
"Of course I did." Hissed the stranger coldly, " I may be exiled, But that dosen't stop me from recieving messages."
"So, what do you propose we do?"
"Kill Talon of course. He was the one who turned the Blue Moon clan on me. Now he will pay."
"Agreed," said the muscular wolf, "But I get that half-breed son of his."
"Yes, of course, I always said that the world has no place for wolf dogs."
"I shall see you next full moon then," the muscular wolf woofed as he walked back to the clan's camp, leaving the stranger in total darkness, until the moon shone on his battle scarred face.
"The time of Talon's rule is at end, and the rule of Blair, now begins."

........

"C'mon, Huck, are you daydreaming again?"
It was four months since Huckleberry became a member of the Blue Moon clan, and he was never happier. But lately, he has been restless ever since.
"Sorry, Kida, I was just thinking about these dreams I keep on having." He told his new friend. In fact, Kida was the first wolf he met from the Blue Moon clan. He was still getting used to the life of a wolf, but it came naturally to him, for he was the son of the Great Talon.
"What kind of dreams?" asked Kida curiously.
"It's probably nothing."
"Maybe, but I'd go see Willow if I were you." Said Kida.

Soon the two were back at the camp of the Blue Moon clan. Everyone was either sharing the daily news, resting or out hunting or patrolling. Sitting at the mouth of a cave was the black figure of the Great Talon, leader of the Blue Moon clan and father of Huckleberry. It had been only four months since the mighty wolf met his only living son, but already they were the best of companions. As Huck strolled into the center of the clan camp, his father trotted up and gave him a tailwag hello.

"Greetings, my son. What goes on with you today?" He asked gruffly.

"Hello, father. We're of to see someone called Willow." Huck told him.

"Why do you wish to see her?" Talon asked curiously.

"Because I've ben having these weird dreams. I told Kida, and she said to see Willow." Said Huck. His father gave him a concerened look. He knew that if you keep having the same dream repeatedly, it ment something.

"She is in her den now." Talon said stiffly and trottted back to his den. Huck and Kida started for a strange smelling den on the far side of the camp.

"What makes you think Willow will help me with my dreams?" Huck asked Kida.

"Because she is the clan Healer." She told Huck, he gave a confused look in response, "She is in charge of taking care of the sick and injured members of the clan. She also is responsible for interperating dreams, mainly the ones that come to you again and again."

"Why are those dreams so special?" asked Huck.

"Because then, they mean something." growled an unfamiliar voice. Huck turned around fast and saw a pale gray she-wolf with green eyes. Huck assumed this was Willow.

"So, it's true," said the elderly wolf, "the great Talon indeed has a wolf-dog son. But no more idle gossip, I heard you've been having dreams that need explaining."

"Yes, I have,' Admitted Huck, "but they probably don't mean anything."

"We shall see,"Willow chuckled, "Now tell me, what are these dreams about, Strawberry, is it?"

"Huckleberry, but call me Huck, please." Corrected Huck, and with that, he began.

"It starts when I'm back at the puppy mill where I was born, I'm locked in my kennel when the door swings open. I start running and I run into the woods, and I see our camp, only it smelled of fear and death. I look up at Council Rock and I see what I thought at first was Talon, but then, I see his face. His one eye was blood red, his fur was smokey gray, and on his chest was a white 'V' shape. Then I hear a she-wolf's voice, it says 'There is a great danger coming to the clan, do not trust the dark one, for he is the key to the Dark Wolf's return'."

Willow looked at Huck in horror.

"No, it cannot be," gasped the elderly she-wolf, "He has returned, I must tell Talon." and with that, she ran to Talon's den at the base of Council Rock.

"What did I say?" asked Huck.

"I don't know," said Kida, "but it sure scared her."

"My Brothers and Sisters," howled a voice from the Council Rock. It was Talon, and he sounded concerned, "I have learned of a great danger threatening the Blue Moon clan. Blair has returned." a great number of clanmembers murmured in concern.

"But we drove him out moons ago, he can't be back." said a dark muscular wolf.

"He is back, Kato, and he wants his revenge on the clan." Talon replied., "Which is why we must be prepared." the whole clan nodded in agreement.

"Storm, I want patrols on the watch at all times. If you so much as catch the slightest whiff of Blair or his followers, alert me at once."

"Consider it done." woofed a dark gray wolf in reply.

"Hazel, how soon can the new pups begin training?" Talon asked a dusky red colored she wolf.

"They are ready, great Talon." replied River. As she said it, four pups who looked no more than six months old peeked out from behind her.

"Good. The meeting is over, return to your buisness, and keep a sharp eye out." Talon concluded, as the great leader came down from the Council Rock, he trotted over to Huck and Kida.

"Father," asked Huck curiously, "Who is Blair?" Talon knew his son would find out soon enough. He didn't figure it would be this soon.

"Blair was once a member of the Blue Moon clan, but being a member wasn't enough. Back then, the clan was ruled by a wolf called Lyco. One day, many moons ago, Blair killed Lyco, hoping to become leader. I saw what he did to Lyco and convinced a great number of the clan that we must drive him and his followers out of the clan territory. There was a great battle that followed, many died. It was in that fight that Blair had lost his eye, he and his followers retreated into the woods, and we never heard of him since."

Huck looked at his father in shock, he had never known these things.

"He is a dangerous traitor, Which is why we must be ready for his return." Talon said and trotted back to council rock.

It was late at night, Huck was walking thru the woods when a strong scent came to him. A warm, familiar scent that took him back to his puppyhood.

"Mother, is that you?" he asked. Then he realized he was dreaming. But it seemed so real, he could almost feel his mother breathing down his neck. he turned around fast and saw the tan she-dog with white paws, like himself. he stood speechless.

"Yes, Huckleberry, it's me. I have come back, but not for long." she said warmly.

"Oh, Mother I missed you." Huck said, "It's been wonderful with Dad and his clan."

"I've come to tell you something," said his mother, "Your father is in grave danger, there is a traitor in your clan who is helping in the Dark Wolf's return. I cannot tell you who, but you must be prepared for the worst to come." Huck just stood and listened.

"Thank you Mother," Huck said greatfully, "But must you go away?"

"I must return to the land where our ancestors roam," She said and smiled, "But fear not, for I am always with you." and as she started to fade away, Huck heard a song that he had not heard for many moons.

As the moon rises high,

Thru the starry night sky,

You are safe, little one,

Dream on.

As the wind blows the trees,

And the bird flies the breeze,

You are safe my love,

Soar free above.

Then Huck heard a part of the song he had almost forgotten.

Though I may be gone ,

A part of us lives on,

So, be free and dream too,

I'll be with you.

"Huck, wake up, were under attack!"

It was Kida, and unfortunately, she was right. All around there were strange wolves charging at their camp. But where was Talon?

"I've got to find Talon," Huck yelled over the noise, "He's in danger."

"Oh, no you don't, Half-Breed." a voice in front of him said. Huck looked up and saw a dark, muscular wolf stood blocking the way to Talon's den.

"Kato!" Huck gasped in alarm. It was Kato, one of the wolves that never wanted him in the Blue Moon Clan.

"That's right," Kato growled, "and after Blair finishes Talon off, I will kill you."

Huck was filled with rage and fury. He charged for Kato, aiming for his jugular vein. But Kato had jumped as Huck was over him and bit his leg. Pain corsed thru out Huck's body, until he broke loose and Kato scratched at his eye, leaving a deep scar across his face. Huck, too weak to stand simply collapsed and was limp.

Kato trotted over to look the Half-breed in the face. Then, all of a sudden Huck jumped up and bit down hard on Kato's muzzle. Then, he let go and Kato ran off into the woods. It was a good thing that Kato never learned the art of playing dead.

Huck ran over to Talon's den where he saw the two wolves circling eachother inside the large, cave-like room.

"Why have you come back, Brother. You know I banished you out of the clan."Talon growled.

"I have come back indeed to finish you off, just like I did to Father." Blair growled back.

Huck could not believe his ears.  Blair was his father's brother, and Blair killed Lyco, who was his father. It was clear to Huck that Blair was a cold, calculating monster.

"You will die, Talon. And I will take my rightful place as leader of the Blue Moon clan." Blair growled menacingly. As soon as he finished talking, the fight began. It was a fight to the death. Blair bit and snapped here, while Talon scratched and fought there, and witnessing the whole thing was young Huckleberry.

It seemed like the fight would never end, until Talon aimed his bite to Blair's throat and bit down hard. The one-eyed wolf collapsed and was still. Huck ran out of the cave howling at the top of his lungs, "Blair is dead, Blair is dead." As soon as the last of Blair's followers heard this, they retreated into the woods never to be seen again.

Soon after, the Great Talon emerged from his den and climbed to the top of the Council Rock to call a meeting.

"My brothers and sisters, we all fought bravely today. But I fear that one day soon, we will have another battle, and next time, we will not win."

"Why do you say that Talon." Asked Kida in concern.

"Because I am not the young wolf I once was. I am growing older and weaker everyday, that is why I must choose my apprentice."

The whole clan murmured in excitement, whoever would become apprentice would one day be leader of the Blue Moon Clan.

"Huckleberry, my son. You have been most loyal to me over these past few months, which is why I choose you as my apprentice. Come forth, my son"

Huck walked hesitantly forward and climbed to the Council Rock and sat next to his proud and noble father.

"O Great Spirits of our ancestors, look down upon this noble creature and send a sign of your approval of him becoming apprentice."

As Talon spoke, a beam of sunlight poured thru the clouds and shined upon the young wolf-dog.

"The sign! The sign!" whimpered many voices from the clan.

"It is decided, my apprentice shall be my own son." And with that, Talon howled and soon the others joined in, including the newly apprenticed Huck.
