"No use going back over there." Kaltag barked his tail low as he walked out of an old shack.

"That was creepy." Star said looking up at Kaltag. They had never expected there to be a mountain lion in an old shack. there was no place to sleep and it was getting dark.

"We need to find shelter." Kaltag anounced. "There's going to be a heavy snow storm tonight, and I don't think any of you want to be stuck in tempitures 20 below zero tonight."

"Heck, no! That's freezing!" Chace said from behind.

Kaltag glared at Chace and continued to walk. Chace, being an onoying Malamute/husky mix, was pretty smart and Kaltag knew he was being pretty stupid not to let him lead them to shelter. "Chace! Get up here and you lead us to shelter!" Chace's ear pricked up.

"If you insist..." He said and trotted up front.

"Ha! Ha! Ha! Kaltag serendered to Chace!" Star barked clumsily. He wasn't the sharpest knife in the bunch either and Kaltag hit him on the top of the head with his paw.

"Keep moving" Kaltag mumbled to Chace.

A few hours past and it was far past dark. Kaltag began to wonder if he'd made the right disition to let Chace lead. Snow began to fall and the winds were getting higher. Kaltag looked ahead and could hardly see Chace in front of him. Then, it must have been a miracal, he saw a cave, a small cave, but a cave.

"Hey! Look over there!" Kaltag barked. "I know it's small but it'll do. Come on!"

They headed in the cave's direction and saw soon how dark it was. It wasn't all that small after all and was big enough for all three of them to stretch out and sleep.

The next morning was a time that came every once in a Blue Moon. Kaltag wanted to head out and find some kind of adventure.

"I'm suprised at your actions Kaltag." Chace barked.

"Really? Well, you're the one who said I needed to get out more." Kaltag barked. "Well, I will get out there!"

Kaltag sped ahead of them and caught sight of a big figure in the shape of a wolkdog.

"Dad?" Kaltag said to himself skitting to a hault. "Dad, is it really you?" The figure still looked like nothing more than a shadow. Kaltag shook his head; the figure was gone. "I knew it wasn't posible. You're dead..." Kaltag remembered his mother's voice: "Kaltag! Kaltag! Come see! Where are you?" she was pleading for him to comfort her the day of his father's death; but he didn't want to come to her. He remembered being to scared, thinking she had murdered him and that she wasn't trust worthy, so he ranaway from home and ended up here, with Star and Chace.

"What is it, Kaltag?" Chace sounded from behind.

"Nothing..." Kaltag murmered and ran ahead again.

The three dogs had traveled pretty far when  they heard an angry voice behind them.

"What areyou doing in my territory?" the voice thundered.

"Just passing through." Kaltag barked not even stopping to look back and kept on walking.

"I don't allow intruders!" Kaltag soon found out it was a wolf and it leapt in front of them. "Get out, Kaltag..." the wolf snikkered.

"How do you know my name?" Kaltag growled.

"You don't remember me?" Suddenly, the voice did sound farmiliar.

"Moon..." Kaltag whispered under his breath.

"That's right dog. I the one." Moon snarled.

"The one?" Chace whispered.

Kaltag looked the ground. "The one who..." Anger began to rise with in him. "the one who murdered my father!" Kaltag snarled, rasing his head and grabbed the wolf's leg in his jaws and flung him at a tree. Moon whimpered as he hit the tree with a thud and wobled to his paws.

"Stupid dog!" Moon growled and leapt at Kaltag. Kaltag tried to dodge him but the wolf was sly and grabbed Kaltag by the scruff and threw him on the ground.

"Kaltag!"Chace barked.

"Don't interfere! This is my fight! For my father!" Kaltag snarled strugling to his paws. The wolf leapt at his side and pinned him to the ground.

"Kaltag! Come on! Fight back!" Star routed.

"I'm trying you idiot!" Kaltag whimpered. As Moon howled in triomph, he thought about when he and his father would sit outside and howl and bark when the sun would set behind the horizon. He couldn't help it. He knew his mother hated it when they did that, and she hated it when Kaltag and his father spent quality time together, and she hated it when Kaltag and his father went hunting together. He began to wonder if she had something to do with his father's death. Maybe she killed him so she could spend quality time with Kaltag and maybe that's why she was franticly calling for him to come after his dad was dead.

But soon his thoughts were interupted by Moon.

"Listen up dog. I didn't kill your father because I wanted to," Moon began. "well, I guess I did want to BUT, your mother asked me to kill him for her. She loved you so much, and she felt left out and wanted to be with you more. So she got me to kill your dad so you wouldn't get mad at her. Then, when she heard you ran away, she went looking for you. When she couldn't find you, she sent others out to kill you. later, she changed her mind and set out to look for you again. No one has ever seen her since."

Kaltag flung Moon off of him. "Murderer!" He snarled and lunged at the dog. Kaltag grabbed Moon's scruff and pinned him to the ground. He was feeling no mercy for this wolf and bit his neck hard. Moon whinpered and chocked, and then lay motionless.

"Kaltag..." Chace was speechless as he looked wide eyed at the wolf. "Why'd you do that? He only did what he was told!"

"No. You heard him say it himself; he wanted to kill my father. And I will avenge my father." Kaltag barked leaping off of the dog. "I must find my mother. I need to hear what she has to for herself."

A week later, Kaltag decided he had enough of looking for his mother. They had searched the entire forest and a couple of junk yards that were beyond it.

"Hey, Kaltag, what's that smell?" Star whispered.

"Probobly you." Kaltag barked.

"Yeah!" Chace agreed.

"No, it smells like another dog." Star barked.

Kaltag sniffed the air. "He's right. Its a mutt though," Kaltag barked douptfully.

"So?" Chace growled.

"It's not my mother." Kaltag pointed out.

"Well, so what? We should start our own pack! You can be the leader, I'll be the second hand leader, and Star can be Star." Chace said with a chuckle.

"Alright but a pack of three won't do very good in a fight against a big pack if wolves. We need to find more members. Lets go check out that new comer!" Kaltag trotted toward the mutt who was sleeping under a fallen tree.

"Hia! I'm Star!" Star suddenly stuck his head under the fallen tree.

"Uh...hi. I'm Duke." The mutt barked.

"Wanna join our pack?" Star asked clumsily.

"We'll let him do the talking just in case the mutt desides he wants to tear someone's head off." Chace whispered in Kaltag's ear. Kaltag nodded.

"Sure!" Duke barked excitedly. "No one has ever asked me to join a pack! I'd love to!"

"Well, lets introduce you to the pack!" Star barked. "This is Kltag and that is Chace. Kaltag is our leader and Chace is our secon hand leader, whatever that is."

"Hi!" Duke barked and crawled out of his den-like area. He was pretty scrawny and looked hungry.

"How about a hunt?" Chace asked.

"Sounds good to me." Duke barked.

"Me, too." Star agreed.

Everyone looked at Kaltag. "Me, too."
